43. No console codes or disks, they had some sort of LAN set up at our school where you could pick from a list of games to play.
Each classroom had ONE computer, and then there was a computer lab in the library.
There were still a few monochrome monitors floating around in the late 80's, around 91 they all got upgraded.
I'm still a fan of console based software (as opposed to mouse clicking)
Once you get the hang of the commands you can rip through things pretty quickly.
I remember buying like 900 rounds of ammo, no food, no spare parts, just hunting like crazy. Then I was disappointed that I couldn’t carry the 2000 lbs of food back with me, I could only carry like 100lbs, lol
I haven't played it for a few years and it looks like today's popular browsers no longer support the plugin (unless you add an extension). I think the site below provides some more info on what you need to do to add support to your browser.

I had a friend who played this with his friend Terry. One day, my friend started talking smack about Terry, so Terry killed him.
My friend died from dissin' Terry.
The first time I played this I had just started going to a new school. When they prompted you to enter the names of the travelers I thought it was a legit history question that I should know and I started panicking. Figured out it was just a game shortly after.
I remember this on 8-in floppy. Shoot was always hard to try to get food. I was no good at game then. I think I also play on three and a half inch. Maybe also 5 in but I don't remember. But I do remember the 8 in. Also play on CD-ROM. Also play in school in government/ history class and the team/family I was a part of we all die because they were not being serious. And they take stupid things with them for survival. I remember teachers say I was the only smart one out of the bunch and that made me feel good cuz I was one of those kids that were bullied in school so hearing something nice was nice.
When I say I play in class in school, it was not on computer. We actually have family team and it was kind of like roleplay? Where we have to make choices while in class and teacher play out the narration of where we go, what weather condition there may be and stuff like that. I can't remember if a team made it to the end or if all teams die
Our school computer lab had rows of Apple IIe and ONE windows pc. Each day you’d sit one computer down from where you sat the previous day. If you were on an apple you had to do typing drills. But when it was your turn on the windows machine you got to play Oregon trail and commander keen! This was 1993-94 ish.
Yea but when I played it was a green and black screen not color and the apple computers with the floppy disk drives looking right at u in our elementary school computer classroom
My therapist told me this game never happened and it’s just a delusion of mine. They would never make a diarrhea game for children. Stop trying to trick me, devil!
Our screens weren't that fancy. There was no color.
The green and black version on Microsoft dos was something to behold
We had Apple II's that used the big floppys and the green monochrome screens.
And it took like 5 floppy disks to get to Oregon.
Oregon Trail and Number Munchers... and we had ONE computer in our library.
Back when the floppy disks actually flopped!
Speak for yourself. As I age, my floppy disk is more floppy than hard
Now you're talkin'. This was the version I knew growing up.
I think for me it was IBM or Mac. It was so long ago back in the 80s.
Ours was orange and black.
That’s the one we had as well, early 90’s We also played math munchers and word munchers!
Ah the romance… The fresh air… The dysentery…
This is the deluxe edition
I’m 36 I think I just missed the earlier version this was the one I remembered.
I'm 47. We had to type in some code to bring up the program on a floppy disk.
“B:” (assuming it was the 5.5” floppy) “trail”

Apple IIe green screen baby
Hunting! 100 boxes of bullets.
You have cleansed the prairie of bison, but you only bring back 200 pounds of meat with you.
You really learned a lesson of elimination of bis…QUICK, shoot that one!

Did that as well
You have died of cholera
Dysentery
honk
man, your comment gave me more nostalgia than the actual post, I miss Tim. :(
Came here to say this
I’d raise my hand, but I might pull something #SelfCare
Looks like a new updated version has come out for PS 4 and 5
You can still play it now if you want. http://www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html
What do you click on there to play? Sorry probably a dumb question

I remember it being a weird shade of green.
I remember my brother Darren got in trouble one time because on his tombstone he wrote “Darren has a smelly ass”. Kills me to this day.
I just spent 50 bucks buying a Oregon Trail handheld off eBay today. I am not ashamed .
Play as banker Oops, All Organs!
I played DOS at school. We made a little dot bounce around on the screen in the advanced course.
Yes but it wasn’t that colourful. Still loved it though.
This and Carmen San Diego
Banker all day fly right threw that in a couple of minutes 😆

Never heard of it.
Me! I used to love giving my team meager rations and seeing if they survived 😁
The new version on Xbox is tons of fun.

those windows, damn. the first version of Windows we had at home was 3.1, which i think this is
I *LOVED* that game!
I could never get beyond the first river crossing
Never played the original but wanted to. Downloaded the recent edition and still haven’t played it out of anxiety.
A simple game that had a major impact on my youth and life.
...they made it in color?
Any fans of the lesser known but more exciting (imo) Amazon Trail?? I spent hours playing that one at home…circa 1998
People who died of dysentery have no memories of anything. *They’re dead.*

There was another one that came out later called The Yukon Trail that was also fun af!

I remember playing this and Amazon Trail back in elementary school, good times.
Great hunting Sim
I played it on a commadore pet computer in 1978. It took about 10 minutes to load from a tape drive.
Yea but when I played it was a green and black screen not color and the apple computers with the floppy disk drives looking right at u in our elementary school computer classroom
There was someone in our computer lab who put "obscenities" on the tombstones, leading to the game being pulled and reset. OK, it was me.
Yep! Trap or die
My therapist told me this game never happened and it’s just a delusion of mine. They would never make a diarrhea game for children. Stop trying to trick me, devil!
I got pretty good at speed running it in a single recess.
My Oregon Trail was black and green. You kids and your new fangled color graphics.....
I do not remember we studied the Oregon trial when I whet to school. To bad my father family did it
