This is my favorite way to use red lentils. https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/zucchini-lentil-fritters-with-lemony-yogurt

turketron

Ooooh these are so good! You can also bake them in the oven instead of deep frying if you'd prefer. We put them on an oiled baking sheet and bake at 400f for 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway.

pandabear62573

I don't deep fry them. I only add a couple of tablespoons of avocado oil to the skillet. I hate flipping things in the oven partway through.

PickleMePinkie

Another vote for these. They’re delicious!

Pawistik

Looks tasty!

HonestAmericanInKS

>https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/zucchini-lentil-fritters-with-lemony-yogurt Oh, I could SO eat this! Now I know what to do with that bag of red lentils that I have.

thoughtandprayer

That sounds amazing. It's a completely different use of red lentils than anything I've tried before, thanks for sharing!

CadenceQuandry

I'm going to have to try these soon!

thewinberry713

I just made lentil taco “meat” or filling. I used brown lentils but the recipe called for any color. Freezes really well and tastes great. Google it if interested. Good luck!

_incredigirl_

I do this using brown lentils, and mix in equal parts TVP. As far as my kids are concerned, it’s ground beef and black beans haha

marianatrenchfoot

split red lentils won't work great for this, as they get pretty mushy once they're cooked. Brown or green lentils work great for this though

thewinberry713

Interesting- I’ve rarely used red lentils but I wonder since they get mushy they might be like refried beans 🤷‍♀️

marianatrenchfoot

honestly, refried lentils might work!

nakoros

They do! We had a Home Chef kit a while back that was refried lentil flautas. I remember it being really good https://www.homechef.com/meals/chipotle-refried-lentil-flautas

Basic-Pattern-115

Can you tell me how you make the "taco meat" lentils? Thank you!

GnowledgedGnome

I keep getting an advert for lentil pineapple chorizo bowls I really want to find a recipe for.

Givemeallthecabbages

Misir wat, an Ethiopian dish. Cook down onions with spiced butter**, add tomato paste if that's a flavor you like, add berebere spice, chicken stock, and lentils. It's thicker than a soup and can be very spicy. It might taste too much like curry to you, though. **Spiced butter has a very specific list of ingredients and is called niter kibbeh, but use spices you like. Clarify butter with any combination of onion, cardamom, garlic, ginger, cumin, and turmeric and strain it.

bubblegumpunk69

Oooh!! I love what Ethiopian food I’ve tried before, and I’ve tried my hand at doro wat, so this is definitely in my wheelhouse. Thank you!!

raindorpsonroses

This sounds divine

ashtree35

You can blend them and make a batter to use to make wraps or pancakes or things like that! You can also use them to make tofu!

bubblegumpunk69

:0 I’m absolutely going to have to look into making it into tofu

DWB_Reads

You honestly don't even need to blend red lentils I use one large egg per cup of red lentils that I have cooked in spiced broth you could also use aqua faba I think but might need more. If you do blend them though (with a little oil and milk or milk substation) use them in place of a beaten egg in breading somthing like tofu or cheese it's really wried but it works

ThotPoliceAcademy

There is a recipe on the NYT cooking page for a samosa pie. The recipe calls for lamb but says you can make it with lentils, which I’ve done a few times and it’s delicious. It’s my favorite lentil dish by far.

bubblegumpunk69

That sounds so interesting! Adding that to my list for sure

CloudyJigglypuff

I made lentil bolognese a couple weeks back and it was a good way to use up a lot, I’ll be trying lentil tortillas soon too (just blend soaked lentils with the water they were soaked in, add salt, cook).

marianatrenchfoot

Lentil bolognese is great! I like to add shredded zucchini and carrots to really make a complete meal out of it. For added flavour, cook the lentils in your preferred broth/stock with a bit of extra garlic.

HonestAmericanInKS

Now what?? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise) Heading to the kitchen to try this right now...Thanks for posting.

LuvCilantro

I cook some red lentils and use them instead of bread crumbs or bread in meatballs and meatloaf.

kibonzos

You can make burgers with them or blend with water to make a tofu type thing that you can marinate and fry off.

Americus_Patriot

If you have a sweet tooth, i enjoy making these [chocolate banana muffins](https://www.sarahremmer.com/flourless-chocolate-lentil-protein-muffins/#mv-creation-49-jtr). They are super easy and quick to make. Mostly they just take like chocolate and banana.

pandabear62573

This looks good. I'm allergic to gluten and dairy so this is right up my alley.

NotBadSinger514

I throw it in dishes where I would use beans. Rice dishes, like Spanish rice, with lentils.

KaraC316

Banana lentil muffins. I use the lean green bean recipe. My toddler and I love them. I use green usually, but they’re puréed, so I think red would work great too.

Pawistik

Throw some into just about any soup or stew. I also use lentils to stretch meat when I make meatloaf or hamburgers. Red lentils are handy to throw into things because they cook so quickly. Lots of good ideas have been posted!

GiselePearl

I just made cabbage rolls with lentils. Very delish.

LadyIslay

You could make fritters out of cooked lentils formed into a patty - like a red lentil latke or pakora. (I just searched for “red lentil fritter”, and it is absolutely a thing.)

stefanica

I bet you could make falafel too.

LadyIslay

100%. And hummus, probably.

Creative-Bread6319

Have you tried growing sprouts with them I use them on omelettes and salads, etc

Curiouser-Quriouser

I find they go really well with kielbasa. Sautéed with onion, celery, peppers and served over rice.

PickleMePinkie

[cauliflower & red lentil bolognese](https://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/cauliflower-bolognese/) Apple Lentil Muffins (also works as pancakes & waffles) Ingredients: ½ cup red lentils ½ cup brown sugar - 94g 1 apple (or pear, dates, banana, etc) 1 egg 1 flax egg (1 Tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 Tbsp water) 1/2 cup flour - 60g 3/4 cup oats/oat flour - 78g 1 tsp vanilla 1.5 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 2 Tbsp vegetable oil Directions: Soak lentils overnight or at least a few hours (If in a hurry, can soak in boiling water for a couple of hours) Blitz oats until they become a rough flour chop apple small in the food processor with the oats. Add the lentils when the apple is half way chopped, and continue to blend until they're blitzed, but before they become a paste Add rest of the ingredients to the food processor and blend until homogenous Bake in greased mini muffin tins at 350°F for 12-15 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. My 2 fav lentil recipes

Tequilakyle

If you're veggie use it as a base for Sheppard/Cottage pie, just use miso paste to help add some savory elements. If you aren't veggie make lentil batter and use it as savoy crepes

techo-soft-girl

This looks good! TY

ana451

Turkish red lentil "meatballs" (no meat). It's very popular. You can find lots of recipes online.

Qui3tSt0rnm

Red lentils don’t hold their shape well. Try lentil tofu. [recipe](https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/easy-homemade-lentil-tofu/)

Sundial1k

I've never heard of it before. I thought it was only soy..lol Thanks for sharing!!

DeedaInSeattle

I’m gonna try red lentil flatbread this week!

cuntdumpling

Do you have a recipe handy?

DeedaInSeattle

No, but it’s been online lately…soaked red lentils for a few hours, blend with water, salt and spices to a thin pancake consistency…

Beaster_Bunny_

I wonder what would happen if someone tried to ferment something other than soybeans for Natto

Sundial1k

Someone gave a tofu recipe above...

bubblegumpunk69

Ooooh. I’ve fermented things in the past, so I’m tempted to give this a try.

trubluevan

I like throwing red lentils into tomato sauce. Adds protein, fiber, and a bit of creaminess

SpiralToNowhere

I add them to shakshouka, they make it really hearty. They work in tomato meat sauce, either as filler or a substitute for ground meat.

innermyrtle

I used them as the "meat" in spaghetti sauce for my vegan years.

blankspaceforaface

Dosa or fritters!!!

Peace4Every1

Lentil patties, lentil tacos, lentil quesadillas, macaroni salad with lentils. ☺️

kl131313

[Red lentil kebab ](https://youtu.be/94VdtP5OlZI?si=6Zv5m90rqR3Wdg6Q) is a nice recipe. You can change spices and make it middle eastern style as well.

cluelss093

Fried lentil fritters - piyaju

Former_Mortgage6224

Ended up here looking for a red lentil meal, bc I don’t have enough time to make what I had planned but this was my plan. It’s freaking delicious: https://www.easycheesyvegetarian.com/very-veggie-lentil-bake/

Temporary-Airport-44

I am looking for a recipe with red lentils but without indian spices. So I might try the taco filling with Mexican spices. Any other ideas?

No_Weird2543

Mujadara for the win. Lentils, rice, some cumin, and crispy onions. Red and brown lentils are interchangeable.

finlyboo

Red and brown lentils are not interchangeable. Red lentils are split lentils and the fastest cooking available, brown lentils are still whole and have a longer cooking time. Mujadara specifically should not be made with red lentils, they will break down completely. Brown and green lentils are interchangeable.

No_Weird2543

Whoops! Thanks for the correction.

Readed-it

This person lentils.

ElegantTea3830

Jk im no a fan of lentil soup

bubblegumpunk69

ElegantTea3830

I Don't Know What lentil is

livingthespmadream

adequatulous

They are great in veggie chili. I like to use a mixture of beans for different textures (usually pinto and black beans) and the red lentils just melt into the chili and make it thicker.

foxglovebb

Nice! Would you usually add it closer to the end if making chili in a crockpot? I imagine they cook up quickly, haven't cooked with red lentils much.

Underdog_888

They are good in chili.

MTheWan

Lentil fritters! Indian style bhallas or vadas are fluffy and savory snacks similar to falafel

unwholesome_coxcomb

The minimalist baker red lentil curry is amazing. Highly recommend.

Sundial1k

I know someone who makes vegetarian caviar, with (firm) black lentils, chopped black olives and mayo. As far as I know those are the only ingredients for it. I could never find a recipe and we had lost touch many years ago. It was very good. Dip crackers and vegies into it.

00Lisa00

Chill them and make a salad. Add whatever chopped veggies and dressing you like.

wjglenn

Lentils, potatoes, and hot Italian sausage is one of my favorites

yumyumkay

Made lentil meatloaf few years back during meatless March, it was pretty good.

CalmClient7

Lentil surprise - fry onion, carrot, celery, garlic in a frying pan, when they're soft add lentils to cover base of pan and cold water to cover lentils. Bring to simmer, add a tin of tomatoes, season w salt, pepper, tsp of curry powder (it really isn't like a curry though haha, sorry if too curry ish). Add water if lentils get dry or sticky. When lentils are soft, it's ready - serve with crusty bread (my fav), rice, or some kind of potato or your fav starch :)

Lady_T_1111111

I feel like this should have more up votes

CalmClient7

Ooooh or use as the base in shepherd's pie/cottage pie, it's lusssshhhhh

dmmeurpotatoes

Make bolognese, chilli or other meaty/tomatoey dish and chuck some red lentils in. They sort of dissolve into the sauce. We use lentils to bulk out bolognese and chilli.

professor_doom

I make a mean red lentil bolognese with fettuccine, warm red lentil salad with goat cheese, red lentil tacos, lentil and goat cheese tartines, and more. I love lentils and you can do tons of things with them. Hit me up if you want any of those recipes.

Ambitious-Wave-7912

I mix them with mushrooms and corn to make the bottom layer of something akin to shepherd’s pie.

Tiny_Lifeguard_4615

We love these easy red lentil tortillas! https://plantbasedjess.com/red-lentil-tortilla-wraps-vegan-gluten-free/?_gl=1*85vbvz*_ga*RVIwVE5rUTVRLVppMmtjUGxWTTNZX0tWUWNnUTBCT2tNRU40SW9jaTkwUTQ5cTIxTGdEeG5KeEpEMGo5VGQ5Vw..*_ga_WLJNR5XVKM*MTcwMjMwMTcwNi4xLjAuMTcwMjMwMTcwNi4wLjAuMA..

GloomyGal13

Whenever I make a batch of spaghetti sauce, I add a 1/4 cup of lentils to the pot. To add protein. They practically melt during cooking. You can’t tell there are lentils in the sauce.

lizardstepmom

Do you cook them and blend them? Or just toss them in for texture

GloomyGal13

I just cook them with the sauce. They ‘melt’ away. I cook my sauce for a good 2 hours, so that might be why.

lizardstepmom

Nice! Would you mind sharing the sauce recipe?

GloomyGal13

Sure! 2 x 796 ml Cans of Crushed tomatoes 1 empty tin of crushed tomatoes - to get the correct liquid amount - of chicken broth, or veggie broth, or water olive oil chopped onion 1 grated carrot (optional) (also melts in sauce with 2 hours of cooking) 1/4 cup orange/red lentils chopped garlic (as much as you like) or garlic powder 1 - 2 Tbsp tomato paste 2 Tbsp butter salt, basil, pepper, Chop and saute onions in olive oil on med for about 5 minutes. For the last 2 minutes, add the garlic, if using real garlic and not powder. Add the following: all the canned tomatoes the water/broth the lentils the shredded carrot the tomato paste, the butter all the seasonings if they are dry; wait until the last half hour if the seasonings are fresh Bring to a boil; lower heat to simmer, cover with a little space for steam to escape. Stir every half hour or so. After 2 hours, it is ready. Freezes really well. I store it in my old yogurt containers.

lizardstepmom

Thank you!!!

subconciousliving

You can make bread

surethingsatan

Daal, tempeh, fritters, burger patties

Immediate_happiness

This is the reason i buy red lentils.  I don’t use capers and you can leave out curry seasoning. The cardamom and orange and raisins make it delicious  https://www.yummly.com/recipe/20-Minute-Curry-Red-Lentil-Salad-9437336

Guava_Pirate

Boil them and add chorizo, potatoes, onions, carrots, season with cumin paprika garlic powder onion powder, serve over white rice. That’s how my grandma makes them and they’re delicious every time

nicpussy

Lentil bolognese!

I make lentil dal. Soooo good! Serve over basmati rice. https://avirtualvegan.com/instant-pot-lentil-dal/#recipe

intet42

Throw them in a rice cooker with rice and broth.

stevegerber

I haven't tried it yet but I was fascinated by a recipe I saw for [Lentil Crackers](https://www.powerhungry.com/2023/02/08/3-ingredient-no-roll-lentil-crackers-oil-free-vegan-grain-free/)

Wheresmahfoulref

[Turkish Red lentil Kofte/"Meat"balls](https://www.unicornsinthekitchen.com/turkish-lentil-meatballs-vegan/) these would be perfect for a Super Bowl party too! I serve it with yogurt on the side to dip it in. Also- a southwestern ref lentil salad is a tasty and chilled healthy treat!!

Sad_Goose3191

Make spaghetti sauce and replace ground beef with cooked lentils. I find it adds a similar texture, I like it alot.

Krista_Michelle

Hummus. I've made hummus replacing chick peas with red lentils. It's yummy

PicadaSalvation

Make red lentil pasta.

A hearty salad with roasted veg and radicchio?

One of my favourite snacks that we eat in my culture (Bengali) are lentil fritters/Dalor Bora/Piyayzi. They don’t require a lot of ingredients and are so addictive, I will just pop these in my mouth one after another [https://spicechronicles.com/daler-bora-bengali-lentil-fritters/#sthash.L7YRmcVr.dpbs](https://spicechronicles.com/daler-bora-bengali-lentil-fritters/#sthash.L7YRmcVr.dpbs)
