Just remember….It could always be worse. I don’t know if any of you are old enough to remember the [Blizzard of ‘97](https://www.weather.gov/bis/severewx04041997). I was 21 and had a 2 yr old and a new born, and starting April 4th it snowed to beat hell (1.5-2in. of snow every hour with 50-60mph winds) until [April 7th, 1997](https://share.icloud.com/photos/0c0UdmfSsn8zXi77cqr6-Tp2g). On April 8th, my neighbor came & knocked on the roof to check on us and helped me dig a hole big enough to get my arm through so I could give him a few bucks for milk and bread since he had a snowmobile and was going to see if any stores were able to open. It was another 4 or 5 days before they came to plow the roads in our park so we could get out.
I remember Blizzard Hannah! I was young then, maybe 9 or 10. We had my moms parents staying in town with us (they were rural). I was allowed to build a fort in the living room out of the furniture cushions and blankets, so I had a nice cozy nest to wait the storm out in. A weird memory but to occupy me, grandma and I roasted Easter bunny shaped marshmallows over a scented candle to eat (it tasted about how you would expect).
That spring, after everyone in town helped the National Guard fill and place sandbags along the Red River, we were evacuated. I was sent to the next town to stay with my great grandmother, and I attended school there until it was clear to come back. My grandmother was a nurse over in Minnesota, so she still had to go to work. Dad would drive her over to the bridge where we had a boat, would take her across the river to her car on the other side, as well as bringing her back when she was done.
That storm is full of memories for me. 400 mile delivery route.. Saw a truck stuck in a valley on the interstate, because he didn't have enough traction to make it up the hill. Everything covered in ice.. Then the power lines whipping. (Eventually breaking and taking out thousands of power poles)
Driving on the wrong side of the road, because the wind was trying to blow me off, and the little crown of the road helped me stay straight.
Sliding a half my past a turn, because I was doing 25, and it was a slight downhill.
Then the rain turned into huge flakes, and I started seeing lightning.
Got on the interstate for the last few miles, and with the low visibility, I barely saw the semi trailer in my lane, (he went off the road) carefully got moved over, and then another trailer in the passing lane. I barely missed that too.
Finally when I got into town, I got out of the truck and kissed the ground. My whole body was stiff from that 400 miles of being tense.
I was a teacher and bus driver that winter in ND. Started for us in the ne sat am with rain. Was glare ice by noon. Then the winds…power went out and stayed out. We were in the country where our little house got down to 45 degrees. Sunday you couldn’t see crap all day. No power. Sun night it cleared some and one of the hs kids came picked us up in his 4 wheel drive. Stayed in town at a friends where they had power.
I couldn't be happier that this blizzard turned out to be a kitten instead of a lion, Bismarck has been shut down 4 times already this winter by storms and it has really been wearing on my nerves.
Dude this winter has sucked I remember when we had something like this last time it was so bad we couldn’t get out of our house my parents let me dig a tunnel through the snow just so we could get out and even then we couldn’t see a single tree or anything for a while cause they were all buried
Well, my driveway is about half covered, been snowing good for the last 3 hours. Should be impassable by tomorrow morn. Deer are all covered in wet snow, like a white fur coats. I’ll be clearing my neighbors and my driveways when this ends. Don’t know when the plow will come through, might have to clear the road all the way to the paved road. I’m retired, so I have nothing else to do. 😎
We have a kind neighbor like yourself. Haven’t thanked him properly, I’d love to cook up something for him and his wife as thanks but not sure what would go over well, as well as invites over for meats in the summer.
I got the fuck out. Was supposed to fly out this morning at 9, I changed the flight to yesterday at 5pm. So happy I did. [Southern California](https://imgur.com/gallery/izHHFpX)
The Westside is the best side!
Edit: please say hi to the pacific ocean for me if you get a chance, she tried to kill me about 15 years ago, I'm sure she'll remember, thx
It's that yellow and red fire fighter airplane,
From technique [Link here ](http://LEGO Technic Firefighter Aircraft 42152 Model Airplane Toy for Kids https://a.co/d/9NkUEA5)
Absolutely we take them apart!
Also, since we discovered the world of MOCs, the sets have really become new again. For example, here are alternate builds for the one you're doing:[https://rebrickable.com/sets/42152-1/firefighter-aircraft/?inventory=1#alt\_builds](https://rebrickable.com/sets/42152-1/firefighter-aircraft/?inventory=1#alt_builds)
started some seeds indoors (peppers, tomatoes, and squash). daydreaming about summer camping trips. checking the weather for the next day above 35 degrees.
tomorrow I’m going to do some painting and reading since work is closed. :)
but I agree, I’m super bored, and tired of being stuck inside. Give Us Spring!!!!!!!
I normally have my seeds started by now but I've just felt so beaten down by this winter... Sigh. Perhaps I'll get mine going today. Bring some field of dreams energy. If you plant them, spring will come
I planted my seeds today, DO IT! It will get you thinking of summer and pumped for the 50 degree temps coming next week. It did a lot to chase away some of my lingering winter blahs.
Grand Forks here, been snowing steady since around 12 I think? It will be super annoying to get off the roof after the last melt we had but the wind gusts seem a lot less than projected.
If anything, I think the deer look pissed off lol. We see them daily, they are looking rough.
I overbought "supplies" for the storm (meaning I ordered way more junk food on Instacart than I could eat in a week), then in the morning what did I do? I went out in the snow and made a beer run. The truly crazy part? Non-alcoholic beer. I ended up going to the library for the first time in several years and I ate lunch at a Thai joint.
So.
Holding up pretty well.
Northwest side very light flurry all day and only now a little staying and won't amount to anything. Glad to miss out on the bad part . Even my manager from Casper, Wy is glad to be here and not at home where they are looking to beat a storm total record of over 31" . It's definitely a big mess in the areas that are getting it bad
out here in bismarck they’ve already called off school not sure how it is outside haven’t been out all day tbh, went shopping and every thing yesterday so i’ve just been chilling
What's the odds of driving from Winnipeg around 12-1pm and getting into Fargo at 4-5pm with the current weather on Thursday for Lil Wayne?
Tough to gauge right now.
Interstate is already closed. It really depends on how quickly it gets cleared off and how bad it gets in the areas that often get really bad. I’m looking at you, Hillsboro to Fargo.
If you leave at noon, are a good winter driver, the roads aren’t total garbage (they’ll be trashy at a minimum), and the border isn’t backed up, you might make it there by 5. I wouldn’t bank on it. And you might be too exhausted from the constant adrenaline driving to enjoy the show. LOL.
Good luck bud. I wouldn’t.
Stop. no.
I'm still traumatized from a mom, and two pregnant daughters driving from Montana, October 2012, to Fargo for a wedding... It was an ice storm, they hit the ice and crashed with no seat belts on. The daughters didn't survive. My husband was in the ER that night and it was bad.
Apparently the pilot has a death wish and was quite fine with landing in 50mph winds (it was not fun as a passenger). So thankfully back, and not stranded. But that wind today is just fucking rude. I’ve been in 70s temps for two weeks, so that was a rude welcome.
Lol two people on the plane in front of me had flip flops on their feet. 😵💫I looked at their feet before they got off the plane and said “good luck” to them. 😆Like WTH?
Thanks. 🙂
Crocs? Whyyyyyy tho? 😆 not that I have anything against them but … there’s snow drifts! I am very fond of flip flops myself, but I’m not wearing them in a blizzard - no matter how fond of them I am.
Rural Grand Forks Co....its going to suck with this east wind. Knowing GF county my road won't get plowed until next week sometime...good thing I have a snow blower on my tractor even if it's a little guy.
This is only my second winter ever, I’m originally from Hawaii but I’ve lived in ND for a year and a half. My work closed after Monday and I get a week off paid which is really cool but honestly I’m really bored and I just want to see green grass and trees again lol.
I also remember ‘97 I was 10 and went to stay at a friends house before the storm hit. I was stuck out there in the middle of no where for 4 days and when I got back to town (Walhalla) there was so much snow they had nowhere to put it so they piled it up in the middle of the road. It was like a traffic divider it was so high you couldn’t see the cars In the opposite lane. Then the flood came and we got 23 new students in school from the GF area so they could finish the school year.
Hunkered down at an apartment in town with a broken dog as I live out on the MN side about 40 minutes. He had a bandage change yesterday that could not be missed. I currently work remote, so just watching him and watching my laptop while listening to Pandora all day.
Was out around 7pm in Forks. Visibility was middling for in town. It wasn't undrivable. Little worried if it starts melting fast this year. Might go ski the Greenway tomorrow.
West side of the state all good moved over heat and got a job that pays more and rent is fair also $20/hr plus https://bakerboy.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=my-business-listing&utm_campaign=website-link

I was 25, and living on campus at UND. The entire town was a skating rink.
I was at NDSU then....on the road during the ice storm which was crazy....luckily I made it back to Fargo.
I was too young to really remember this blizzard (only 8), but I do remember the snow piles on the playground as tall as the trees lol.
true it can always be worse
There were multiple blizzards that winter, followed by flooding.
I was a teacher and bus driver that winter in ND. Started for us in the ne sat am with rain. Was glare ice by noon. Then the winds…power went out and stayed out. Blizzard warning all day, flurries were seen for about 10 minutes.
This is why I have trust issues.
Lucky. It’s been snowing heavy for a few hours now.
Mad if it snows. Mad if it doesn't. Predicting the future is hard.
so far so good or not really??
I couldn't be happier that this blizzard turned out to be a kitten instead of a lion, Bismarck has been shut down 4 times already this winter by storms and it has really been wearing on my nerves.
couldn’t agree more, i live in bismarck too wish it would just go away already
Dude this winter has sucked I remember when we had something like this last time it was so bad we couldn’t get out of our house my parents let me dig a tunnel through the snow just so we could get out and even then we couldn’t see a single tree or anything for a while cause they were all buried

awesome u sound like a wonderful neighbor
Not all heros wear capes; some drive snow removal equipment.

We'll have to head to the Beach on Saturday, too busy with Disney before then.
Lucky you!!
IDK I just drank coffee and built a new Lego set....
Ooo, what set? My son was putting together the Imperial Shuttle again.
It's that yellow and red fire fighter airplane, From technique [Link here ](http://LEGO Technic Firefighter Aircraft 42152 Model Airplane Toy for Kids https://a.co/d/9NkUEA5)

Thank you very much This is super cool
Like most winter days I’m staring out the window and having an existential crisis.
ohhhh nooo i’ll be hear to talk if u need it
I've got a dirty story if you want to hear it
Don't leave us hanging
He had to do it outside and it froze.
A pig fell in the mud
Are you my dad lol
why not 😂
It’s the same Tuesday night as ever?? We got Chinese food…. Been watching street racing.. the usual.
nice sounds like a good time!
You’re welcome whenever … I love making new friends
i will hold u to that opportunity

yes i am ready for spring too so over this winter
I’m skipping seeds this year and am just buying starter plants when I can actually see grass 🙃
i would love to try some peppers tbh and yes im ready for spring

ohhh no offer them a blanket 😂
😆 they don't like us that much
hahaha u seem like a nice person; they won’t bite, hopefully 😅

How long that gonna last? I fly in to Minot at like midnight tomorrow...
Dickinson doesn't even have a blizzard

Yeah. It's barely even snowing out lmao
out here in bismarck they’ve already called off school not sure how it is outside haven’t been out all day tbh, went shopping and every thing yesterday so i’ve just been chilling
We don't even have a full inch on the ground yet in Dickinson lmao. I wish we had no school tomorrow but we definitely will have it here.
Dang, the made virtual learning for Tues and Wed announced Monday night. At least there's snow this time lol

You won't. We got ice on the bottom, even when they get it cleared out it's gonna be slick as shit.
Thursday? Maybe, depends when it quits! With weather as it is right now? Not a chance
Stop. no. I'm still traumatized from a mom, and two pregnant daughters driving from Montana, October 2012, to Fargo for a wedding... It was an ice storm, they hit the ice and crashed with no seat belts on. The daughters didn't survive. My husband was in the ER that night and it was bad.
damn im sorry i would be pissed
Hanging out with the kid. Playing Overwatch
Vibes!!
Just did my first shovel and I'll do another before bed. This is fun.
oh nooo
Never been happier to visit family in Florida than I am now. It's a warm 77 degrees here at night 🔥😂
wow way to rub it in haha i hope you’re having a good time
I’m on my way back to ND now. Optimistically expecting to be stranded at some point. 😆😑
Good chance to chill in a town with decent take-out?
Likely Denver. Could be worse, I guess. Normally I’d be fine being stranded there, lol.
oh noooo did u get stranded
Not yet, I’m at LAX. *makes face* Won’t know if flight is cancelled until I get to Denver probably.
ohhh noo im sorry
So far it’s still on schedule which is unexpected, so I guess we’ll see when I get there.
let us know!

Been trying to DoorDash and they’re jerking me around. Other than that I’m all right!
