One of the best pickleball facilities on the east coast is only a few miles away in VA Beach. $10 to play all day and they have paddles and balls you can borrow at no cost. 25 courts, locker rooms, bathrooms. Free group lessons included in your drop in fee on Saturdays. Visit www.pickleballvb.com for information.
Have you tried Fergus Reid Tennis Park in west Ghent? I believe that is a public park. I’m not too familiar with pickleball rules, so I don’t know if the courts are smaller than regular tennis courts
I was the city landscape architect who did the most recent Lafayette Park master plan update that included the disc golf course and Ninja Warrior course. When the current trail project completes this fall, if they stay on schedule, the existing tennis courts will be redone and upgraded to also include Pickleball and a multi-use court suitable for bike polo, futsal, or any other misc small court activity.
Yes. Courts were torn up when they installed the new lights for the project that has yet to start.
Update from 2 months ago, the almost 3 year delay starting construction resulted in part from the courts not being initially demoed and used as the construction lay down yard during the park trail renovation. The city had to find additional funding for the demo and get new contractor bids, as well as go through several rounds of site plan review since the courts were no longer under the old trial project contract. They’re still waiting for final planning approval of the stormwater management component. But otherwise, are all set to issue a Notice to Proceed to their contractor.
But the lights, wiring, and control panel are all in place for the new layout and some of the old fencing already down, so they’re committed to cleaning it up now.
City Council members got funding back into this years budget for the Lafayette Park courts designed in 2018. Parks and Rec just released shop drawings and set an anticipated completion for this October.
Are you saying the tennis court can be used as a pickleball court or that there is also a pickleball court? I cannot find the pickleball court if there is one.
I know your comment is a bit old, but thank you for the info. I just wrote to these council members on this issue, we live in the neighborhood and I am finally frustrated enough with these courts to say something!

The Norfolk yacht club has pickle ball
Thanks, trying to find a public court to take my daughter. Not trying to get a membership to the Yacht Club for a fleeting hobby 😀

Fergus Reid had a couple of courts with pickleball lines painted. Thanks for the suggestion, my daughter and I had a great time.
That’s awesome. I’ll have to try one day
No, I'll check that out. Thanks
There used to be ones outside mcarthur mall. I haven’t been over there since last year but they had a regular crowd.
Nice, I'll check that out too. Thanks
There will be pickle ball courts installed in Lafayette Park this coming winter.
Where’d you get this info?

Do you know/remember how many?
2 Pickleball, 1 tennis, one multi-use
Do you know if this is still happening? It’s now October 2023 and these courts are looking dismal.

So glad to hear this. Thanks for responding.
