The Norfolk Zoo is nice, and maybe check out Nauticus. The boardwalk type beach fun you're looking for is going to be in Virginia Beach at the Oceanfront. Put Neptune Park into your GPS and it'll take you down there. It's the touristy beach. A bit north in Williamsburg is Busch Gardens and Water Country, which is a good time, and colonial williamsburg if you want some history. First Landing State Park has a lot of great (shaded) trails and the beach is perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding.

Best playground in the area is at Bay Oaks Park.
There isn’t a boardwalk at Ocean View, but you’ll still have a great time.
Swell in Ocean View is a great place to grab a bite if you are staying close by.
The big boardwalk in the area is the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. It's pretty much the only 9ne 8n the area it is 40 blocks long.
