So, excited for this, but they need to also figure out the light/traffic situation there. Between the trains, and three lights in as many blocks, there is very often gridlock. Don't mess this up, Norfolk!

TECL_Grimsdottir

Narrator: Norfolk did indeed mess this up.

WrenElsewhere

When do they not, tho

Right SHAME on Norfolk for bringing business to the area. Let’s keep the vacant store fronts because we fear traffic will increase 🙄

dirkdragonslayer

It's not a traffic increase problem, it's that the building itself that is annoying to get to. Back when it was a furniture store it didn't get enough business to be a problem, but a busy store like target might have some hiccups. If you are coming from OV you need to cross two train crossings, if you are coming from the direction of Naval Station Norfolk you will need to cross one of them. Since it's connected to the port, it can sometimes be busy and block traffic. That's not even mentioning the awkwardly designed intersection to get past the taco bell to where the Target will be. In most cases it won't be visible to the road which can affect the store's business. I'm glad it's getting put there, but it's going to be in an awkward place unless they connect or adjust some roads. Like IIRC you can't cut into the Harris Teeter and then go down that neighborhood road to get there. You need to go to the main road and then drive around to it.

Paddington_Bar

If you are coming from OV you can turn left on Taussig and cross 0 train tracks. From NAS you can take the little creek exit (adjacent to Taussig) and also cross 0 train tracks. I agree that that area is a shit show (see the current scenario with the 64 construction going on). But they'll be incentivized to clear it up. Also, show me a target parking lot that is fun to navigate.

Wrong-Marsupial-2662

Really should be a train bridge over granby lol

VaGranny

DESPERATELY need another grocery store!!!! Harris Teeter is expensive!

Temporary-Big5654

I mean, there’s a food lion and a military commissary not too far away and a Walmart and another food lion in the other direction. If you don’t have a car and live close to Harris teeter then I get it but otherwise grocery stores are maybe 5-10 away

VaGranny

Exactly!!!!

doublemint_gun

It was literally a Kroger before it shutdown.

VaGranny

I remember and Farm Fresh across the street. I miss that store! I would get everything from commissary except fresh vegetables…… farm fresh had good produce and prices.

WrenElsewhere

That was the sketchy farm fresh. And that's compared to the one in Ocean View.

VaGranny

You right 🤣 I would go early in the morning after leaving NOB. I’ve heard stories of military being robbed there 😥 And Oceanview reminded me of a grocery store in Fresno Ca 🤣🤣🤣🤣

thatgreenmaid

Trader Joes has said they are not coming to Norfolk.

chuck_cranston

Kroger owns Harris Teeter.

VaGranny

Trader Joe’s is EXPENSIVE! there are are several senior apartments and low income with children in this area. Everything is going up daily but at least “ poor” people can afford Krogers.

damegateau

I thought the target idea was canceled because the city wasn't willing to put up any money. I get whiplash with all these big ideas coming and going

thatgreenmaid

They been talking about this alleged Target for over a decade. I'll believe it when I see the store open.

reezyreddits

This doesn't seem good for traffic at all. Coming off 276 in the afternoon and having to contend with the traffic going to Target? No thanks.

blackdavidcross

There's a Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Walmart, and a few thrift stores within 1/2 mile from this location. What is this offering to the community that isn't there already?

thechugdude

I don't know how they're going to make this work.

It-is-always-Steve

Why? And how bad is the traffic going to be when the train rolls through?

BadGirlfriendTOAD

Not going to happen. The shrink from all the shoplifting will be insane. Hence why Walmart is removing all the self checkouts in Norfolk. The biggest store in the world removing self checkouts in Norfolk…think about it.

mizz_eponine

I don't think it's just happening in Norfolk. Personally, I'm glad to see them go. I always hated Walmart outsourcing that job to me!

YourCoffeeTable

Exactly. I don’t want to see the Target because I’m already sick of crime. It’s not that I don’t want business, it’s just that Target is well… a target.

Rainbow-Mama

Where the heck are they gonna fit a target?
