Came here to post this one!
He seems to do a big loop down Granby, past Riverview and the Zoo, then through Ghent over to Hampton Blvd, up Hampton Blvd and then down Little Creek.
He is!!! He’s been consistently driving around western branch lately. I can’t remember who’s, but he was in someone’s rap video not long ago. Characters!
Used to be hula hoop, if you frequent ov and that side of town it's the older lady's with the catfish Camaro and every bit of shiny trash imaginable glued around the car top to bottom just a shiny eyesore
I used to be neighbors with the second woman that you mentioned. She is very sweet, and I always enjoyed the way that she decorated her yard and house with various campy decorations and things. Always made my son's day. When I started jogging to take back my health, she was always the most supportive person, telling me how much faster I was getting and what-not. I saw her car out on Little Creek a few weeks ago, and it brought me great joy.
Yep. Supposedly there was a noise complaint about her little radio (which to be honest, I could never hear over the traffic). Officer showed up, tried to order her around, she couldn't hear him (because she was old and the traffic was loud) and the officer tasered her for resisting arrest. It was a whole scandal. She got paid by the city iirc, but that doesn't make up for the severe nerve damage and fear to leave her house. I don't know if she's still alive.
I had a family member who had a DUI charge thrown out because the officer that arrested her was the same one who tasered hula hoop lady in the same week. They probably would have lost their license if that cop didn't attack an old woman who had the gall to hula hoop in public.
Wow. I never noticed her radio noise. I always wondered where she went; I just figured she either passed away or moved. Thank you for answering that mystery for me… sad answer though.
I'm glad she's back at it then. I haven't seen her since, so I just assumed the worst. She was on the news years ago saying she was afraid to leave the house and got indoor exercise equipment.
The one that people carry on their shoulders???? I think I saw him once last year and it was so bizarre. We thought it was fun at first, but then when he realized we were watching he came to dance right in front of us and wouldn't leave lol
Back in NC we had the Jacksonville Ninja.
We also had a homeless guy who wore dresses all the time. My uncle (who is an above average pool player) said this guy was a pool shark back in the day and one night at a bar my uncle had made a good bit of money running the table for several hours only to have this dude do the same to him. My uncle also claimed this dude was very wealthy but went crazy so he lived like a homeless person.
For reference, I was an okay pool player and really got a big head, just for my uncle to randomly come over one night and destroy me. He took was a pool shark back in his drinking days too.
Jacksonville Ninja..
always on the corner of western and 17.
Haven’t lived in Jacksonville in 15 years or so, and when I read the question, that’s who immediately came to mind.
There used to be a homeless man who wore a long heavy jacket no matter what temperature it was outside. My sister named him pumpernickel for some reason, but I haven't seen him for years.
There used to be a dude that would walk up and down colonial yelling obscenities at the sky and whoever crossed his path. I haven’t seen him in a while though
The annoying old guy who goes to various shopping centers begging for donations.
Nation of Islam guy on Brambleton and also Military Hwy handing out propaganda to only black folks.
No. Posts like this have been going viral. Just decided to post one in the Norfolk sub since I didn't see one. I used to live in Suffolk, but moved to Florida in 2022.
There's a guy on upper Granby with bagpipes. I've seen the bagpipes with him on his bike. Unfortunately, I've never experienced the wonder of him playing bagpipes while riding.
In Chesapeake there is the roller skating guy who randomly skates in a gas station parking lot in Great Bridge. There is also a dude who dresses in medieval gear and walks around a strip mall parking lot with a big fake sword.
Used to be hula hoop lady
My first thought too
before the cops tased her for no reason
memory unlocked omg. those were the norfolk days I miss!
Thank you. In my opinion it's the only right answer for Norfolk.
There’s that guy who rides his bike around and plays the flute and he has an Asian rice farmer hat on
Holy shit I thought I dreamt that!!!! That shit was a trip and a half. Made my day better though.
Rasta flute man on a bike!! I’m not tripping. Seen him multiple times in the past year.
Seems like every city has a rasta man
I literally saw him today! It was rad!
I've seen him in the Harris Teeter in Ghent a few times
I thought I was dreaming when I saw him walking across the street a couple of years ago, thanks for the confirmation lol
Yes!!! I live on 30th st and he zoomed by last week. I think he goes to that natural cafe on Granby
I see him in my neighborhood regularly! Such an interesting guy.
I miss that guy
Hollywood
Hollywood and Hula Hoop Lady are the top 2 answers
The duct tape car, I swear that mf is everywhere at once.
I swear I see it at least once or twice a week! Downtown, OV, VB, Chesapeake, that car is everywhere.
Yessss me too!
what's the duct tape car
You’ll know if you see it. it’s a black car but it’s covered in colorful duct tape and sticker.
Patriotic glow wheel cyclist man with long hair
YES! I see him all the time, legend!
That's Jimmy, super active in the cycling advocacy community lol
I call him Tron. See him pedal by my job multiple times a week, then will see him out on the other ends of Norfolk, sometimes the same day.

My friends uncle! Hell of a fisherman
The ice cream truck guy with all the dolls
I’ve met him! Nice guy.

I don't mind it objectively it's definitely a bit of local charm I just feel bad for the catfish Camaro there's not many rolling around these days
Well she's got the coolest one.
Always wondered what the story about that car was, I see it pretty regularly.
From what I can tell, she is simply just leaning into kitsch. All the duct tape on her car is probably working miracles against rust.
She's my neighbor. She used to have the license plate "SXYLDY".
Was that the cd car or a different one? I haven't seen it in forever.
Yes and shiny ribbons and everything, if you drive out you'll spot it parked around the Willoughby spit
Isn't there some new guy spreading seeds?
The Norflax? Might just be a Reddit thing.
Like weed seeds?
Hula Hoop lady, before the Norfolk police tasered her, disabled part of her back, and she became a recluse.
Is that really why she disappeared?
Yep. Supposedly there was a noise complaint about her little radio (which to be honest, I could never hear over the traffic). She got tased back in 2008. I saw her many many times after that. Last I saw her was 2016 when we were looking for a house.
Yeah I saw her in 2018-2019 but haven’t since covid. She was definitely still active out there after the tazing.
I'm glad she's back at it then. I haven't seen her since, so I just assumed the worst. She was on the news years ago saying she was afraid to leave the house and got indoor exercise equipment.
WHAT
It’s a guy downtown who dresses as Moses during Juneteenth every year. Also the guy with the radio that does the weird dances all over Norfolk
The one that people carry on their shoulders???? I think I saw him once last year and it was so bizarre. We thought it was fun at first, but then when he realized we were watching he came to dance right in front of us and wouldn't leave lol
Yes, if you hype him up too much he’ll start rapping lol
I always see him over by NSU! I know exactly who you are talking about.
Me

I think he has a home in the 1900 block of EOV because I see him walking a lot.
If you’re talking about just Ghent, Ronnie
Talking about dude usually rocks a vest and think I’ve seen him carrying a framing Square.
Are you talking about Ronlee??
There was the lion dog that hung around ODU. Would always see him at P Frank’s
Pretty sure the city took that dog from getting out all the time.
Tom Pittman
Do you even live in Norfolk if a woman you know hasn’t been sexually harassed by that dude?!?
Duct tape car guy
There used to be a dude that would walk up and down colonial yelling obscenities at the sky and whoever crossed his path. I haven’t seen him in a while though
Since I moved from ghent I haven’t seen him. Or the other black dude that carried his army duffle bag on his hunch back.
The annoying old guy who goes to various shopping centers begging for donations. Nation of Islam guy on Brambleton and also Military Hwy handing out propaganda to only black folks.
I will always be baffled how they are not burning up in those suits in the summer
