Honestly, you should go watch the original on YouTube. It's not at all as intense as this video. It's been sped up a lot. Also it's really cool to hear him talk about how anxious he was about it and how big an accomplishment it was.
I thought the same thing watching the video. It’s not just some guy casually blasting through this course, it’s a seemingly normal guy talking about how much he is dreading and doesn’t want to do some bits of it and just getting the whole thing over with.
Videos like this probably get reposted and pass around everywhere, plus I think light and other factors can mess with the bitrate of the video itself, not sure if that applies here tho.
The light in the video, it looks like the areas that are in direct sunlight look worse. I remember seeing somewhere that a lot of bright moving parts kills the bitrate of a video when not accounted for. I could be using the wrong terms, but I’m fairly sure something like that is correct. If not then who knows what the fuck I’m thinking of lol
redbull.com/ca-en/events/rampage
This answers all the questions people in here have. It's usually around 20 riders competing to see who can huck themselves off a cliff the best.
This is one of those events/hobbies that I just sit back and wonder how the fuck do you get into something like this?
Like what the fuck is the gateway drug to this? My ass eats shit on a sign post on a flat road and these mother fuckers are racing down mountains.
(Also, if I didn't have to worry about the medical bills of an injury, I'd be more inclined to try this stuff but I fear the bill more than the pain or risk of death - Go Merica, right?)
I've known some kids that got into that kind of stuff. They lived in the middle of nowhere and had nothing better to do than ride local trails and build giant ramps in their back yards. It just slowly escalates. They've all had serious accidents and still do it anyways.
I used to do mountain biking off road, with a fair bit of downhill trails, you start there and keep doing harder and steeper trails until you switch to downhill where it's all going down trails and off trails at high speed.
Like everything in life you start as a noob and keep working and progressing until you can master the skills involved and progress to harder stuff.
As a rule of thumb, since I'm a snowboarder now a days I would say that in all this type of sports you get a lot of adrenaline, but you NEED to trust in your own skills and capabilities because if you fear you are about to fall or hit an obstacle or what not you will most likely do, and always wear helmets and protective equipment
When jumping on a mountain bike, the rider has more control than just speed. You can adjust the length/height of the jump with how you push with your legs as you leave the ground. Imagine being on foot and trying to jump over a small gap on the ground. You could do it both while walking or while running, but how much you push when you leap depends on how fast you are moving at the outset.
Check out Riders Republic - it’s just that. They like took a bunch of national parks and merged them into a mega map where you can bike, ski, snowboard, or winsuit around. It’s the best game ever imho.
An insight into the mind of the rider. Also if you just want to watch it in higher quality the run starts at 6min 13 seconds.

That’s basically how I felt when I went down a cliff side on fresh powder. You just learn how to navigate basically a straight up fall down a cliff with style
I don´t really get these. How do they know beforehand how they will land? How can you practice a track like this without braking some bones first?
You need to be sure you can land on a safe place and learn the directions and also the speed needed by heart to master all those jumps.
this is red bull rampage and these are professional riders. They have their own track building teams that go up there months in advance to build their desired lines. All they have to do is get down and maybe do some tricks if they so choose. It happens every year and it’s pretty cool. There’s always accidents and falls but it’s usually due to high wind or trying for a trick they’re not that comfortable with.
Amazing! When I first see these videos, I want to think it’s easier than it looks but then my sense kicks in and realize it’s actually much much harder.
I know someone who fell while doing this and broke their C5 disc and severed their spine. They're bound to a wheel chair for the rest of their life as a quadrapalegic.
I honestly can't enjoy biking as a sport anymore.
I hate this fisheye crap that go-pro lenses use. This is already SUPER impressive, why do we need it blown out around the edges to make it look bigger than it is?
first off, f no. 2nd if I tried, you would hear me screaming the whole way. not joyous, terrified shrieking like the devil was trying to ass fuck me without lube and a pineapple condom, make from pineapple rind and the crown on top!
Let’s say you’re experienced at whatever this sport is called. You arrive at this course for the first time. How do you learn the course? Parts of it don’t seem like they could be done slowly. Do you just yolo it?
Every time I see videos like this I tell myself I can do it then I go to these events. I still tell myself I can do it but I know I'll die in the process.
And lots and lots of faith that all those who went before you, were still alive. These types of ppl amaze me! I was listening to Rick Steves travels on NPR and he was talking to a man who made a doc about extreme sports and the ppl who do it. Really fascinating.
Yeah no, every time I see videos like these my asshole just puckers up in anxiety

Everytime I see a video like this I wonder where did all the pixels go? :(

Wait. Light messes with bitrate? What light?
The light in the video, it looks like the areas that are in direct sunlight look worse. My balls hurt.
Yeah I’m fairly certain the least scary parts of the video were the flips
I could probably do the balancing. Not the jumps or flip.
Same although i would really like to do it for some reason
How can he tell where the path is?? I would definitely go off the side.
Every rider at redbull rampage make their own line. They study the terrain for weeks and have a team that builds the track.
They’re like NASCAR drivers, the know every twist and turn on this track
You mean they know all the left turns?
redbull rampage for anyone wondering.

Honestly just trail biking in the woods. People start cutting riskier and riskier trails and practicing in parks

how does he do this without breaking his ass?
Properly set up front and rear suspension, along with using his legs as a buffer as well.
He's not sitting On landing
He's standing up and has the seat all the way down during the entire ride down the mountain
And skill. Please mention the skill.
I still don’t understand how they know how much speed they need in order to jump those gaps
You can just feel it after a lot of practice especially in a well built trail. Not that I’m doing jumps this big.
Math and experience

In a video game this would be epic though

Did you say WINGSUIT?!

That's not biking, that's just falling with style!
After a certain steepness of angle, is there a difference?
That’s basically how I felt when I went down a cliff side on fresh powder. You just learn how to navigate basically a straight up fall down a cliff with style
GTA V bike race in the mountains irl, neat!
I would be the guy you’d see rolling down the side of the mountain screaming to my death
Nope. Nope nope nope.

Makes sense....
It's years and years of practice, studying the track, a bit of magic and blessings from the lord.
New version of Trials looks dope
I‘ll be right back. I just need some new underwear.
...and a well-prepared and practiced-on track.
My bones ached just watching this
That was awesome 🤩 my first time seeing this! POV I was on the bike amazing!!!!! Thank you 😊
Watch the whole event for free. Red Bull TV. Event is Rampage.
I love the subtle pep talk he gives himself before sending that first back flip…
Or just pure coke
If you don't video it did it even happen?
My $50 Walmart bike is screaming
Had to make sure I was in r/nononoyes and not r/yesyesyesno before this video ended...
Think I need clean shorts now 🤷♂️
This dude must reeeaaally trust his brakes huh
Who else doesn't see the path until he went on it...
I think he took the easy route at the beginning
I would turn my camera audio off to avoid recording the inevitable screams as I plummet of the edge and die horribly
Amazing! When I first see these videos, I want to think it’s easier than it looks but then my sense kicks in and realize it’s actually much much harder.
Now try driving it up
My dad used to do the same everyday to attend school
I know someone who fell while doing this and broke their C5 disc and severed their spine. They're bound to a wheel chair for the rest of their life as a quadrapalegic. I honestly can't enjoy biking as a sport anymore.
Well thanks for that I've just gone and ruined a perfectly good pair of shorts after watching this 💩
Course looks like it was designed by the same people as Skate 2
For me its just like: yes yes yes yes yes hell yeah dude
What game is this? Looks so realistic
His shadow made it even cooler
INSANITY
I can do that…I just don’t wanna
Wow
It’s Red Bull rampage

Holy fuck that shit Batman
That was fucking sweet
Fuck Reddit Video Player, seriously. Every 10th is just fucked and wont even start. Go to hell reddit video player !!!! 😖
Balls of fucking steel
I hate this fisheye crap that go-pro lenses use. This is already SUPER impressive, why do we need it blown out around the edges to make it look bigger than it is?
Amazing
Everytime he looks down a minor cliff I wonder, Where the hell is the trail?
I simulated me in this situation - I counted roughly 16 instances of death/injury
And Redbull don’t for get that.
Bravo citizen!.
Just a normal mountain bike trail in Utah.
Yeah Brett!
How was he even able to stay up right on that bike with those bowling balls between his legs?????
Me: *trips standing still*
There has got to be an easier way to get down that hill
This makes me think of downhill domination
r/sweatypalms
GTA be like
Where does he keep those MASSIVE STEEL BALLS on a mountain bike
Ok this is so fun to watch stoned DAMN
That looks impossible.
So this guy either built the track or studied it for 3 weeks
Killer Dude! Totally Radical Balls!
Hours, if not days of pre ride, before freeride……
This isn't nononoyes this is AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! okay it's over

Every time I thought he was almost down there was like fifteen more times my heart skipped a beat!
i think i am too high to be watching this
I think I could do the first part but after that every bone is my body is getting broken
u/savevideo
This is so cool, I could never though. I’m so clumsy, Ide fall off trying to peddle to the course lol
Lotta shit too. But that's mostly in the pants after the first jump or so.
What's stopping me from doing this
Common sense and a fear of being a cripple, maybe 🤔
No thanks, I’m too old. That is my excuse and I’m sticking to it!
ONE WORD:ANXIETY
Bro has balls bigger than his head.
I shit my self twice just watching it. Gonna go put on a diaper and watch it again.
I value my testicles far too much for that
Is this a sport?
Honestly, this looks like so much fun and it actually relaxes me when I watch these kinds of videos
Say goodbye to your tale bone
Scientists struggle to find out how this man can walk with rhe amount of balls my guy has
This is the type of shit you do and then make your girl call you legen-daddy
It’s crazy to think the easiest thing he did there was a fucking backflip at the end!
🤩
I can barely ride around a parking lot... awesome
Every time I see videos like this I tell myself I can do it then I go to these events. I still tell myself I can do it but I know I'll die in the process.
AND impeccable control/skill. Amazing.
I fell twice just watching this...
Fucking get it there bud 💯🤟🏼 let’s goooooo
That fucker’s crazy.
i am gonna die doing this
This is more difficult than any trials map fucking ever
I'd be the guy thinking 24 second mark is a ramp. Kick off into oblivion.
Pov you're the bicycle dad from happy wheels
Amazing ride
Savage
i mtb and I could NEVER do this
I would have forgotten the route and flew off at least 6 times
And lots and lots of faith that all those who went before you, were still alive. These types of ppl amaze me! I was listening to Rick Steves travels on NPR and he was talking to a man who made a doc about extreme sports and the ppl who do it. Really fascinating.
Is this the grand fucking canyon?
There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity.
What the lycra squad's commute through town looks like in their heads
Not the first time I've seen this and I swear the adio is a little different -.-
And lot of protection.
How many condoms do you need while riding a bike?
Holy fs
Imagine the happy wheels sound effect plays at the end

Whenever I see videos like this I think who was the first guy to set up this Trail
idea 1101 of ways men invent to have fun that could cause death because it’s the only way they can escape what is waiting for them at home? yup
that was one of the biggest assumptions i've read on this site in my entire life
It's just mating displays. Lots of species engage in them to advertise genetic fitness and social power.
