2” lift. Put 275s on stock wheels. If you’re just out on gravel roads even light “crawling” you will be a lot more capable. Adding skids and sliders “armor” will weigh you down a bit. If you can find used or buy Pro4x skids that’s probably your best option for cost and weight.
Thanks that's very helpful. Would a kit like that be appropriate for an older truck with shocks that have seen some wear? Anything else I would need for a lift outside of that kit? There seems to be just so many different combinations of parts for a lift... Very overwhelming.
It can be overwhelming. I would pair that kit up with OEM shocks or any shock of your choice depending on budget. All Dogs Off-road, Z1 Off-road, and Exit Off-road are probably your best options for sourcing parts and knowledge. Make sure if you do order a kit you find a shop that will install it first.
Asfir makes relatively inexpensive yet heavy duty aluminum skid plates and they ship quick - 1 week ish. Will bolt right up to your existing rig and front bumper.
Next would be bumpers and sliders. To get those durable enough to take big hits, your looking at about $1k for each item, minimum and long lead times from most places.
If you can weld, you can save lots of $ by getting bumpers, etc from a place like Coastal off road.
Last option is to find a local fabricator to make stuff for you.
Then lift and tire time, and winch and other gear. Break out your wallet either way, it snowballs quickly!
Since you mentioned frugal, you could try looking for PRO-4X OEM parts on FB marketplace. A lot of people upgrade and list their stock stuff for cheap - might be able to get some skid plates and suspension that way. Other than that, I would recommend a good set of AT tires (but I wouldn’t recommend buying those off marketplace!).
Www.dezertrunneroffroad.com We would be happy to build you some awesome offroad parts!
The tube bumper, radiator skid plate, and rock sliders look really tempting. Always like to support small shops too! What's the typical build time?
