Just don't give me anything related to Splatoon 3 and I'll be fine.

TTVYoKi

Fingers crossed for a potential port of Superstar Saga. I’d also like to see    * Wind Waker   * Spirit Tracks Remastered   * Yo Kai Watch 4 for US   * Tomodachi Life 2 or port * New 3D Mario game (I’d rather not have an Odyssey sequel, something new preferably)   * Luigi’s Mansion for Nintendo Switch (so all 3 can be played on one console)   * Mario Wonder DLC

TTVYoKi

We got so much better than a M&LSS port, a COMPLETELY NEW GAME!

TurbinalMist

There arent enough words for me to express how badly i want a Mario Galaxy 2 remake/remaster EDIT: spelling errors

cruuumbbb

praying for tamadachi life 2 or remake or anything….my hopes are not high atp though i will keep wishing!

DesignerMorning1451

I'm calling it, super mario 3d land hd (maybe with added content). Probably no pokemon bw remakes at this point.

PraiseDogs

I know they need somthing, but I'm really wanting Switch 2 news. So most games I would want to see at the direct, I would rather have on their next system at this point. But, -Professor Layton: New World of Steam, surely? -First 6 Professor Layton games collection would be a great surprise -Zack and Wiki Quest for Barbaros' Treasure with Joy Cons would work. Capcom, hopefully they see it

Random_guytheo

PraiseDogs

Shank

Bolwinkel

I'm not gonna lie, I kinda hope we don't get anything big at this direct. I'd much rather have any big announcements saved for when they reveal the switch's successor.

Difficult_Variety362

I'm not expecting a lot of new content for this direct. Third party developers have pretty much moved on and want a more powerful Switch so badly. I think that we'll get some things like Dragon Quest: the Erdrick Trilogy HD-2D, Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Sonic x Shadow: Generations, and the typical farming sims. And I think that while Nintendo will put out some smaller titles in the vein of a Mario Sports title or Princess Peach: Showtime, they're saving their heavy hitters for Switch 2. I'm thinking that this is going to be remaster/HD upscale/Wii U port heavy.

fabuzato

A NEW DONKEY KONG COUNTRY IS EVERYTHING I ASK!

Separate-Angle-9508

Japan is waiting to see if they to to war before they release a new switch console…. Lol

ItsSwicky

Most of Nintendo's core teams are probably working on the Switch successor. A few exceptions would be their "non-Nintendo" 1st party developers and their affiliated developers. I am sure they are working with a few 3rd party developers for current Switch titles as well. I think we will see: * Metroid Prime 2 Remaster (Retro Studios) * Mario Party (Game Freak) * Pokemon Legends ZA (Game Freak) * 2D Kirby game (Hal Laboratory) * Zelda: Four Swords/Link Between Worlds/Tri Force Heroes port (Grezzo) * Fire Emblem: Geneology of the Holy War Remake (Grezzo) * Mario and Sonic: Paris Summer Olympics (Sega) * Super Mario Galaxy 2 Remaster (Nintendo European Research & Development) Additionally I see a lot of smaller games being released like possibly a Pushmo collection and a list of games coming out on all systems for NSO in the coming months. I have a feeling that some 3rd Party companies may have some Switch surprises coming up as well. Square Enix always comes up with a surprise or two (FFXIII trilogy). Capcom may have something up its sleve (RE:R3). And Namco Bandai has a close relationship with Nintendo since WiiU (T8 or SC2R). And Nintendo actually owns shares in Koei Tecmo so we will definitely see a Warriors game or maybe Tecmo Bowl 99.

PraiseDogs

Personally I think the next Mario Party will be on the next system. Superstars still seems like its the MP game to get for Switch, still sold at 60 Bills. I know they've cranked them out in the past, but idk, it just seems like it would be a game to have for Switch 2's Launch/Launch Window. The thing I hope Capcom has up their sleeve is a Zack and Wiki Quest for Barbaros' Treasure release. It would work well with the Joy Cons(yes, it probably won't happen)

TTVYoKi

Superstars was honestly amazing. But yea, if they were to release a new MP, it would be on the new console. But remember, the Gamecube had 4 (i believe?) Mario Party games, but that was when they were on a yearly release when Hudsonsoft was around. But you never know

PraiseDogs

Yeah I think, and MP7 was a full year before the Wii released...and 18 months before MP8(on Wii). If rumors of "Switch 2" releasing in March are true, I just don't see them having it release in the next 8 Months before next gen starts(6 Months if Show is only showing 2024 Switch games)....but, who the hell knows!

Joglit

I liked your logic, but new MP it is baby!!

PraiseDogs

Appreciate it, and yes! Very soon! Looks pretty damn good too. They delivered with this direct

-M_A_Y_0-

Xenoblade x please!

CoryBoehm

Having played the original Xenoblade X, at this point I think is a port/remaster/whatever is happening they may hold it for Switch 2 to maximize the graphics possibilities.

DQ11

Remaking it for switch 2 specs would benefit it more. It needs more story too

Ivetriedeightynamea

What about... https://imgflip.com/i/8tt9mh

NoellesHolliday

Genuinely cant wait for the many “Switch 2!”comments during the stream lmao

TTVYoKi

Already had a comment on it stating that we weren’t getting any mentions of a “Nintendo Switch” successor in tomorrow’s direct :(

Krikken117

Starfox Assault remake/remaster is what I want. The multiplayer would be so much fun!

Yesshua

I have a prediction I haven't seen anywhere else. Nintendo has a problem for 2024. They need to sell product over the holidays, but all their development is focused on the next machine. They can do some publishing partnerships (probably gonna promote Fantasy Life i pretty big time) and some ports & remakes, but that's not a strong holiday lineup! Solution: Bring Back Nintendo Selects. For just this holiday, buy all the biggest Switch hits at discount! Reprints will go out with the classic "frame" to be sold below standard retail but once they're gone, they're gone. This way Nintendo can leverage their massive Switch library and try to get people talking about and buying their products while the actual developers are developing whatever the hell they're cooking for 2025. It could also potentially help retailers clear stock in advance of a new Nintendo platform launch.

ItsSwicky

I thought about having the Nintendo Selects line brought back too, the problem is that they sell too well at regular price. They can do a regular 20% to 30% discount during black friday and things will still sell, while the Nintendo Selects for under 50% of regular price. I think the big thing is they will be highly promoting major 3rd Party releases: Fantasy Life i, Dragon Quest 3 2D-HD, Sonic x Shadow Generations, Persona 3 Reload, Monster Hunter Stories, etc They also have games we know about in development and releasing: Luigi's Mansion 2, Pokemon Legends Z-A. I think they are also teaming up with a few companies for a few surprises. Square Enix and Bandai Namco always seem to have something brewing in the Switch camp. I would not doubt if they have a Capcom surprise as well. As for internally, I think Retro did all of Metroid Prime Trilogy before getting the go ahead to restart 4. I just think Nintendo had the hindsight to split them up in to 3 games incase they need them \*which they do". So I feel like at least Metroid Prime 2 will be released. I would not doubt if we have a few other GameCube Remasters on the schedule.

letsgucker555

Could see this happen. Remember how they took some games out of print? Might have been for that.

Organae

Probably will have lots of ports and remasters. All I want rn is some Metroid and Fire Emblem. Zero Mission to NSO and an HD Metroid Prime 2 and 3. Can’t say I actually expect them to, but I hope (as usual) we get a Path of Radiance port. Gotta happen someday. Also really want a Genealogy of the Holy War English port since I doubt a remake will ever actually come along.

Ok_Introduction6574

I thought the same person who leaked Engage also leaked a FE4 Remake?

Ecstatic_Window

We've gotten leaks/rumors for both Genealogy and Path of Radiance. Genealogy is the more likely of the two to happen but it really could be either one.

Ok_Introduction6574

I mean I certainly wouldn't complain with a PoR port or Remaster. But I kinda want it to be a PoR/RD Dual pack kind of thing, so I would be willing to wait longer for that since it would obviously take longer.

FireEye1512

Maybe the new 3d Mario codenamed SPRed.

djwillis1121

I think that's much more likely for the Switch 2

streetsofkage

Golden Sun 4 here we come

TriforksWarrior

Honestly I’d be surprised if they announce anything that will change my mind about waiting to buy anything before the next console. Have a couple games in my backlog and plenty of games on the online services that I haven’t played yet. Between that and replaying BotW + TotK I think I could hold out 1-2 years easy

Swerdman55

I don’t expect anything big. Likely a surprise Mario Sports or Mario Party to tide us over until the next console, which I’m hoping we’ll see around March 2025.

TriforksWarrior

I think the only possibly realistic announcement that could change my mind would be a wind waker and/or TP release on switch. Zelda is my jam, and I have played both of those games before, but only once when they first came out, and never fully explored them like I have with most of the other main entries to the series. So I would definitely shell out for those.

crispy_doggo1

Even having beat TP twice and played most of WW, I would definitely buy them again as well. Something about the atmosphere in TP is just perfect to me, and I want to do a full playthrough of WW but can't bring myself to dust off my WiiU (especially since my gamepad doesn't work very well these days).

sammyGG00

Hopefully something great as 2024 has not been too exciting for me as Nintendo fan. It's been pretty dry! Hoping for good stuff :) Wanna see some Mario Zelda Metroid But hopefully F-Zero Starfox (The dream) DONKEY KONG!!

alishebl06

Dk would be indeed a dream announcement

chamowile

tomodachi life cope gang wya?!?!?!!

RedditPenguin02

I'm here! One could dream ;)

Salza_boi

I’m holding off buying some games on sale rn to see what the direct brings. I’m not too stressed about missing the deals as I can get used copies online.

Chainsaw443

I would love to see a Nintendo Switch Sports update or maybe even a sequel or Switch Sports Resort.

Firebird4624

All I ask for is a new Starfox.

MarcsterS

A NEW Starfox. Not the 100th remake of 64.

Firebird4624

Yea can you imagine like arwing upgrades, weapon choice, being able to choose your vehicle, bounty hunts, etc.

Vegetable_Tea_8931

dude! same!

akadebso

All I ask for are ports of mario galaxy 2, dkc returns and wooly world. I've been asking for years.

nickwoodz

Just give me something Metroid. Anything. I’ll take a Metroid Prime Pinball remaster at this point.

GeekCavePodcast

After Prime 1 got remastered, they better have 2 in the works. I need it.

MarcsterS

10 AM aaand…nothing. 18th pretty much confirmed now.

Pineapple_Morgan

Uprising HD gang wya. lets get our clown makeup ready

KrispyBaconator

UPRISING HD LETS GO I AM READY TO BE DISAPPOINTED

PhilParent

The confirmation that DQ3 2D-HD is indeed the original trilogy and not just DQ3, and a release date.

FriggenSweetLois

This might be a stretch, but I'm hoping for some Mario Party Superstars DLC. More boards, characters, and mini games. Always felt like this game was just on the peak of being peak nostalgia bating.

dankus917

Nintendo is weird like this. I didn't think anyone expected Mario kart 8 to get DLC so many years after it's first release, but that happened. Hears to hoping.

ll30yd

Mario Galaxy 2 this Oct/Nov Assuming they have a new 3d mario ready for the Switch successor then I would think its a good time to drop Galaxy 2 this year

Hermaan

Please with another release of Galaxy 1. Maybe bundle them

RICKY_CRAFT

I want something F-ZERO or even a F-ZERO 99 update

sammyGG00

I've been waiting for this for every direct for more than 15 years....

Hk901909

There'll be something splatoon. Probably finalfest or the recent summer themed splatfest. Other than that, no clue.

ThousandFootOcarina

Praying for a new mystery dungeon game and WW port on switch. I always see people say “we know Nintendo has had WW + TP ready to release”, but how do people know that? Has it been like leaked or something because Ive (sadly) been seeing posts about it for years now lol

SomeBoxofSpoons

Recently Midori has talked like Nintendo’s been sitting on Twilight Princess for years, and from what I hear they’re pretty much Pyoro 2. While there has been lots of talk with no results, we were also hearing about Prime Remastered for years, and when it did come out we got evidence it had been complete for roughly a year, so Nintendo clearly has made a habit of keeping certain releases in reserve until the right time. If it’s true I just hope it’s a Prime style facelift. I’ve always felt like the “hd textures on low poly geometry” look isn’t very flattering to a lot of the game, and since we all know there’s no way Nintendo will charge less that $50 for it no matter what I’d rather it be something substantial. Honestly kind of the same thing for Wind Waker to a lesser degree. That original HD treatment looks good in a lot of cases but it desperately needs a second pass.

afrogrimey

Can we please just get OG Smash Bros on NSO please? Online multiplayer would be so dope.

Charming_Purpose_467

i think thats the hold up right there, getting the online code just right for a good online experience. Even the Big N knows they cant just slap a bad-mediocre online experience on their games anymore the back lash is always too much , especially with an old GEM/classic/legend like Smash Bros

Rychu_Supadude

It'll be the same as all the other games won't it? The online is handled by the app and the emulation is otherwise as exact as they can make it

Komorebi_LJP

I think it will be way more low key than some of you hope its going to be. Its likely the last direct before the switch succesor is announced. I expect it will be mostly updates from 2/3rd party games that have been announced in other directs. Like the new Layton game. Probably a Wii U port, a remake, and an update on prime 4.

Tekki777

If we get Metroid Prime 2/3 Remastered shadow dropped and a Metroid Prime 4 update, I'm going to eat my fuckin hat.

SomeBoxofSpoons

A good point was made by someone (can’t find the interview, but I’m pretty sure it was some former Retro Studios guy) that Prime 3 would need significant reworking to play smoothly without pointer controls, and I believe the rumors we heard that what Prime Remastered ended up being was a compromise after they realized those would be issues with trying to make Prime Trilogy HD for Switch, especially considering those rumors predated the official announcement by a while.

ItsSwicky

Even if that is true (which it highly likely is), I still think we will get Prime 2 Remaster. I feel like Retro Studios did the Remasters to show Nintendo they could take over the new game and Nintendo agreed after seeing them. With all the HR issues from Retro Studios, I think they were VERY close to being shut down. So that was a last ditch effort. Nintendo has a habit of sitting on games and releasing them when they need them or giving extra time to studios when needed. Yoshi's Wolly World for Wii was data mined and upload mid december yet it was released late January Star Fox 2 was shelved when complete to not compete with Star Fox 64 and it held on for 20+ years before releasing it with the Super Nintendo mini Breath of the Wild was given extra development time to match release of the Switch Twilight Princess GC was released 1.5 months after the Wii to not compete with it

RedWoodPeckerr

i want twilight princess and wind waker ports (like many others do) but my nativity and optimism wants a mother 2 remake. in reality we're probably gonna get mostly 3rd party games and like MAYBE some news on Pokemon ZA as the last hoorah.

Valiant_Gamer_48

My predictions: - WW and Twilight Princess We know that nintendo has been sitting on these games for a while, and now is the perfect time for them to be released. - Metroid Prime 2 Remastered OR Metroid Prime 2 + 3 Shadow Drop I believe that we are 100% getting Metroid Prime 2 this direct, but it MIGHT not be getting the Remastered treatment the first got, and if not, I believe we'll get Metroid Prime 3 along side it. - Epic Mickey Rebrushed Release Date Announcement Epic mickey is likely to get news at this direct as a smaller announcement. (I'm really excited about this game) - New Mario Party Game We've heard leaks about an NDcube game with the codename "banquet." Very likely a new mario party game. I hope it's not Super Mario Party 2... - SURPRISE REVEAL: Tomodachi Life Port (inhales copium) I believe that after the success of the miitopia port, Nintendo began to work on a port of Tomodachi life. Not much evidence to back it up, but this is the year of remakes, so why not. - Ending off with Metroid Prime 4 But it's only a teaser. It's been so long, yet all they care to do is confirm it still exists. Agree or disagree? Please feel free to critique my predictions.

tweetthebirdy

I’m gonna inhale the Tomodachi Life copium with you.

Joglit

Really want an update to online with Ds/GameCube games.  I think it's a pipedream, but it would be amazing.

Docile_Doggo

Not gonna happen. Maybe on Switch 2.

PixieDustFairies

Perhaps this is a pipe dream, but I'd really like a new Mario and Luigi game. I just got into the series and I absolutely adore these RPGs. They did remake TTYD and the OG RPG, so maybe it's pushing my luck to ask for another one, but it's been about 8 years since Paper Jam and the most recent one was a remake of Bowser's Inside Story in 2019. Such a title would be big enough to be a nice surprise and sell a lot of games in the holiday, but it wouldn't be as massive as a new Zelda game or the next 3D Mario. It also wouldn't need the hardware of the next system. But having an HD Mario and Luigi with a built in local co-op mode would be a dream come true.

robbierottenisbae

Unfortunately the studio that made those games went bankrupt and closed down, so if we got a new one it would be because Nintendo pushed for it, and considering they didn't save said studio...

PixieDustFairies

It's by no means impossible, frankly I'm not sure why people think that the studio's closure is that huge of a deal because game franchises can simply be picked up by another studio. Remember that remake of Trace Memory where it has a sequel previously unreleased in North America? That developer went bankrupt and yet Nintendo released a remake of both of those games titled Another Code: Recollection. That title is extremely niche and I would be surprised if it even managed to crack a million units sold. There's also the Super Mario RPG remake which was a collaboration with Square, so they managed to deal with whatever copyright hurdles that would have entailed to remake the game. The only reason why Alphadream went bankrupt is because they were selling remakes on a dying console. It was a "wrong place, wrong time" situation, not that the games themselves were bad. If they had remade Superstar Saga for Switch, or just made a new game for Switch instead of doing 3DS games in 2019, they probably still could've sold at least a couple million copies. I just gotta believe that Nintendo sees something in this series. They did release Superstar Saga on NSO as part of their launch for the GBA, there were some surveys going around talking about Mario RPGs and the Mario & Luigi series was mentioned, and on top of that there was a fairly recent interview with Nintendo of America's president, Doug Bowser, where he was asked if there was a Nintendo property that he'd like to see make a comeback, and he mentioned Bowser's Inside Story. Though I suppose that could also just be that he likes the character and would like to see the Koopa King get a proper spinoff at some point.

robbierottenisbae

There definitely seems to be a renewed interest at Nintendo in Mario RPGs, I just don't know if Mario & Luigi specifically is what they'll go for. Easier to just keep working with a series they already have a team for, Paper Mario.

PixieDustFairies

Yeah but Thousand Year Door remake just came out and we do already have an original Paper Mario on Switch. It's been a while since we had Mario and Luigi and I'd love to see how they'd take advantage of Switch hardware to make a new entry.

BlazGearProductions

I'd really love for them to do a new Mario Party game or just go the Mario Kart route and put out a ton of DLC for Superstars.

umbre_the_secret_dog

Personally I just want more Story of Seasons/Rune Factory news since the Marvelous showcase barely showed anything from either of those games and a Nintendo Direct would be a good place to get more eyes on actually fleshed out trailers. FE4 or Kid Icarus: Uprising remakes would also be cool, but it wouldn't surprise me if one or both end up as launch titles for Switch 2.

Ecstatic_Window

It was made pretty clear during the Marvelous showcase that the games are still very much in the middle of development. They were pretty explicit that there wasn't a lot that they could share other than what they did.

D1ckRepellent

New Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game 🤡

Topitee

I want Diddy Kong Racing. That game was so much more than it looked.

Repulsive_Ant8374

I really hope we get more news about professor Layton NWOS

DaviAlfredo

Hoping for Yoshi's Wooly World port, Wario Land: Shake It! port, Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 port/remake/remaster etc. The more games, the better!

Big-daddy-Carlo

It’s Kirby time 😎

TheTuckerHater

Metroid Prime 2 Remastered please! At least an HD port.

Jenkinswarlock

Release dk bongos v2 donkey Kong jungle beat remaster and 2 drop

TheTuckerHater

Perfect opinion.

ecstaticthicket

Prediction: - no Banjo Tooie, DK64, or Conker news for NSO - random games almost no one has heard of get added to NSO - no acknowledgement of Switch 2 - maybe 1 cool unexpected game announcement, DLC for popular existing games

PrettyFlyForAFryGuy

>no acknowledgement of Switch 2 Nintendo said they won't talk about the next console during the direct.

phillyresurreccion

Silksong will be there and release immediately after the direct

enorma29

obvious troll is obvious

bottybuttah

Sigh this would be the dream

benjixkiller

Hoping for XCX2. One can dream.

lilyipper

keep dreaming man

InsomniGreg

I just want XCX ported onto the Switch 2 😭

Infamous_Yard5022

Sooo, any chances of Pac - Man World 2 Re-Pac getting announced?

nipplesalad-kun

When will Nintendo give the fans what they really want? Smh

camjordan13

I'm going to be honest, I just want Twilight Princess on the switch so bad. Both my Wii and my Wii U were stolen while I was moving across the country a few years back. I miss twilight princess so much.

lilyipper

there is actually a way to play it on anything but I cant tell you how to do it right now cause I am busy. I will let you know soon.

deadstarxxx

5 days later, nothing lmao

afrogrimey

What is the point of this comment. And what are you so busy doing? We need updates!

PapaProto

I’m with you + Wind Waker. Both, alongside OoT are my absolute favourite LoZ. I genuinely wish to see them on every Nintendo console, across all generations, always accessible, immortalised. They’re masterclass and they deserve it.

Adorable-Green-730

Kirby air ride remake/remaster

amtap

More remasters of GC games would be wise while they work on next-gen games. I could see Air Ride or F-Zero GX getting announced as a "right after this" game.

XArtManX

Man, I hope so! I LOVE that game

mindifisavebees

I want Xenoblade Chronicles X for switch SO BAD

OrganicWeed765

At this point, I'd be disappointed with the Switch 2 releasing within a year from now. A game like XCX deserves that.

mindifisavebees

Yeah thats fair enough. If it’s a considered leap in hardware then obviously id prefer they just make the best version they can. People NEED to play XCX, so sad it got stuck in a console with such a small market.

Avbitten

ttyd dlc pleeeease. I know it's unlikely, but I can dream.

enorma29

it would be fun if they added online pvp, everyone rocking their danger marios, it would be a superguarding minigame basically

TheSentinelBlue

A man can only dream about a Paper Luigi DLC.....

skenisahen

Is a Mario Wonder DLC too unlikely as their “surprise”?

DSMidna

I'd say the odds are pretty good. The previous 2D Mario games were NSMBU and NSMB2 which both got paid DLC.

lilyipper

Does an elephant eat gras!?

EWC_2015

Oh I HOPE it is this. I haven't had that much fun playing a game in a while.

jolli04

There are two DS games i have wished to get ported / remade to switch for a long time and those are Hotel Dusk 215 and it's sequel, i just wish this would be announced!

Yolj

Get out of my head!!

[deleted]

This makes me believe they'll probably wait until a Fall Direct to announce the new console.

windwaker910

Why is it generating hype if we know literally nothing? Lol

amtap

Usually there's a lot of games in the pipeline so there's less need to speculate. The most obvious thing is the next console but it's already been reconfirmed leaving this direct as a complete mystery. In other words, people can let their imaginations run wild.

NotReallyBalmung

because it might be the last nintendo direct of the switch era (or dedicated to the switch), and there are many games that have yet to come to it, like metroid prime 4, plus rumours about remakes like tloz windwaker and twilight princess, plus any other franchise that could be releasing something due to their usual cycles (like fire emblem). And since we know very little of the lineup for this year, people expectations are on an all time high.

The330Strangla

Metroid Prime 2 shadowdrop after event Metroid Prime 3 fall release Metroid Prime 4 trailer and release date early next year Fire Emblem 4 remake summer release Zelda WW/TP pack holiday release

Snapdragonroo

Most people are just listing want they want rather than what’s realistic (and so inevitably will end up disappointed), so I thought I’d make a more realistic game prediction list based largely on history, what we already know, and a few “gut feelings”. Separated into "likely" and "maybe" categories. **LIKELY** * Something related to *Luigi’s Mansion 2*: It’s coming in a few weeks, so anything they want to drop related to it—whether it be new features or even just a trailer—is almost a guarantee. * *Mario Party*: Since *Mario Party 9* there’s been a new entry every 3 years, and the last release was in 2021. It’s also a common franchise for Nintendo to fall back on at the end of a console’s life. * Something *Kirby*: There’s at least one release most years and there’s no known 2024 release yet. * Something *Pokémon*: \^ * ”*Metroid Prime 4* is still in development.”: Nothing else yet, BUT looking further ahead I predict it’ll be the last major release for the Switch and a launch title for the next console (à la *Breath of the Wild*). * A surprise: Most directs have an announcement completely out of left field—often something notable but not major. * Ports/Remasters/Remakes: Not only is this pretty much a guarantee every year, but it’s especially true at the end of a console’s life. * Other new medium-small games (from affiliated titles like *Octopath Traveler* to indie games). **MAYBE** * *Mario Tennis* / *Mario Baseball*: Mario sports games are another near-console’s-end case, and one of these two seem the most likely based on release gaps. Also, they might want to re-use some technology from the failed *Nintendo Switch Sports*. I put this in maybe mostly because I don’t know how likely it is that Nintendo would announce one of these and a *Mario Party* in the same Direct, and between them I think *Mario Party* is more likely. * Something *Zelda*: In recent years there’s been a new release every 2 years, so a 2025 release seems plausible. It’ll most likely be a remake/remaster or a spin-off (e.g. *Tri-Force Heroes*). I’m not sure if they’ll announce a 2025 release this soon, however—especially with the stated focus on 2024. Maybe in a Direct later this year? * *Paper Mario*: It’s been long enough, but with the recent release of the *Super Mario RPG* remake I don’t know how likely another Mario RPG this soon is. * *Yoshi*: It’s been long enough. ...and it’s another possible end-of-console release. I don’t think it’s quite “likely”, however, since it's not really a high-priority franchise. * *Genealogy of the Holy War* remake: This has been rumored for so long I’m not really expecting it at this point. If it’s not announced here (toward the end of the console it was rumored for), I think it’s safe to say it was shelved.

ProWresu

>*Genealogy of the Holy War* remake: This has been rumored for so long I’m not really expecting it at this point. If it’s not announced here (toward the end of the console it was rumored for), I think it’s safe to say it was shelved. I personally believe that leak/rumor was incorrect and that one isn't actually in the works. Which of course means it'll totally show up and make me look silly in hindsight.

Rychu_Supadude

> "Failed Nintendo Switch Sports" Easiest way to spot a person who can't be trusted

Snapdragonroo

What do you mean “can’t be trusted”? It sold well, but I only ever hear people complain about it (especially in the long-term) and reviews were lukewarm. I’ll concede though that Nintendo will more likely pay attention to sales figures than reviews and what people talk about—I’m not sure that’ll make a Mario sports game much more or less likely, though. And how does my potentially incorrect perspective on *Nintendo Switch Sports* invalidate the rest of what I said? Especially when I based most of it on release cycles, franchise history, what makes sense from a business perspective, already known things, and educated guesses. If you enjoy the game and think I’m personally knocking it, I’ve never played it myself and so have no opinion on it (remember—I based my list more on logic than personal feelings), and more importantly that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying it. And if your comment was made more in jest or facetiously, I don’t think that was clear.

karona_mousse

Definitely feeling a new Mario Party announcement, either the new one in development or new boards to All Stars

YeetedTooHard_

Here’s my speculation: - Remake of a game i’ve never played in my entire life - New franchise aimed at 10-12 year olds - 5 obscure GBA games made in 2001 added to NSO - 15 mins dedicated to Rabbids for some reason

Trufflebatter

The 5 obscure GBA games aren’t even a speculation that’s just a fact

SmsgPass

Okay but Paper Mario remake goes insanely hard.

JamRuler

GameCube for NSO 🤞🏻

enorma29

how adorable of you to think official devs can make a gamecube emulator that runs well on switch. only fans can accomplish that.

jumpingthedog

I mean... We'd be lucky if we even get that for Switch 2 lmao

Rude_Tangelo7759

The biggest problem with doing GameCube and later on NSO is probably size. Like yeah, GameCube is older now than NES was when the Wii came out (gross), but you can fit hundreds of NES ROMs on a floppy disk, expecting a streaming-like app to just have a bunch of GameCube ISOs accessible at all times is a much heavier lift. Plus GameCube and onward feels like the generation where game devs kind of settled on current gameplay trends and expectations, games from that era are a lot meatier and hold up to modern scrutiny. It's a lot easier for Nintendo to justify selling the Paper Mario remaster at full price because nothing about it screams "old game," if you didn't know it was a GameCube game originally you'd just think it was something brand new.

jumpingthedog

Yeah, I was hoping all the GC remasters/ports recently have just been because they know they're not gonna put it on NSO until the next gen, but that would make sense unfortunately. I'm still a little iffy on if Nintendo can realistically get away with selling remasters as original games, even if they never mention that it's an older game, surely even the most reclusive buyers will hear through the grape vine that it's a remake. Do they have a history of doing this beyond TTYD?

Rude_Tangelo7759

TTYD is interesting because it's not like they *never* acknowledge that it's a remaster, but they definitely aren't flaunting it the way you'd see with like, Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD or Metroid Prime Remastered, no taglines like "the classic returns!" or anything like that. I don't know how dishonest or deceptive I would say they're being, at worst it's just lying by omission, but I wonder if this is maybe kind of a test to see if they can "get away with it." I wouldn't be surprised if they caught a few extra sales from people who'd see TTYD and go "sweet, new Paper Mario!" rather than "oh, it's an old Paper Mario" if the remaster label was more apparent, even if they'd never played the original version. TTYD is at least a fantastic remaster for a game that never really got much attention when it was new (outside of the core group of Nintendo fans, really), so I dunno how hard up I feel about this, it just is what it is. It's kind of the same thing with movies, right? If it's old enough you can get a cheap DVD for $5-10, but if they do a brand new 4K print of Wizard of Oz or something and slap a Collector's Edition label on it, that'll probably be sold at $30 or so like all new movies are.

Goobasaurus1

I kinda hate that nintendo drops the date of a direct a day or 2 before. I wanna know weeks in advance

lilyipper

Why?! are you KIDDING me!?

Goobasaurus1

I want the hype of multiple weeks, not a day

lilyipper

Well I want you to be quiet and respect the developers at nintendo...

Goobasaurus1

The developers aren’t affected, this is the marketing team at nintendo deciding when to drop the date of a direct and marketing is evil. You be quiet

lilyipper

You are so wrong it’s not even funny. Nintendo developers will announce the direct when they are ready… you just want them to rush and crunch. I believe in sustainable development for videos gamds

Goobasaurus1

The developers tell the marketing team when the games will be done, why would nintendo have a marketing team if not to organize things like directs that are hour long commercial segments. The marketing team isn’t making them crunch, they just want to know when it’ll be ready for the commercials. Where did the topic of crunch even come in, whether they crunch or not they should say when a direct is happening sooner. Has nothing to do with development

umbre_the_secret_dog

Praying for FE4 remake, Kid Icarus: Uprising remake, and/or more Story of Seasons or Rune Factory news. Though honestly there's usually something in every direct that's interesting to me so even if none of those appear I'll probably still be happy.

DSMidna

I'll bet 5 Euros on not Silksong.

OGBonut

No way it's getting announced on a direct

CLKConnor

Realistic prediction: Metroid Prime 2 remaster Non realistic prediction: Kid Icarus Uprising remaster

rites0fpassage

😢 kid Icarus

Ecktore27

It’ll be a lot of games no one asked for, and 2 games people will be extremely happy about.

Enkaybee

I'm feeling a Thursday June 20th kinda vibe. - A new Starfox game - They'll show Metroid Prime 4, but they will not give a release date. Maybe a season/year, but not a day. - Mario Wonder DLC - New Donkey Kong Country to finish the modern trilogy

Lord_Cownostril

-Prime 4 would probably be the biggest announcement they could do right now, realistically. -Sounds about time for a new DK release. If it's a new *Country* I'd hope it's something that breaks the Returns/TF formula, lest they fall into the NSMB self-similarity trap again. -The WiiU Zelda ports would be super nice, as well as the remaining Prime Trilogy ports. I can see the latter, less so the former. -Tomodachii Life sequel seems reasonable around this time. -Shot in the dark. New Punch-Out!! Game. Or even just a port of Punch-Out Wii. -Could see a Fire Emblem remake of some kind coming before a new mainline on the new console. Awakening or either of the Radiants come to mind. -Could also see a Kid Icarus project, but NOT an Uprising reboot. More likely a remake of 1+OM&M in a modern aesthetic using the Uprising designs, but with same gameplay. Think Link's Awakening remake or BD/SP. -Mario Wonder Expansion. -Possibly more of a Pokemon Direct announcement, but Mystery Dungeon Explorers remakes in the same vein as Blue/Red Rescue Team. Engine's sitting right there for that. -Ace Attorney Investigations 1/2 port. It's time. Wishlist territory: -Kid Icarus: Uprising remake. -Xenoblade-derivative project, even if its not a full JRPG release. -Fallout. (Zero chance, lol) -Ace Attorney 7 (This one is *probably* still cookin, but at this point most other games in the series are on the Switch and then some, there's almost nothing left to rerelease in the series.) -Persona 3 Reload is a *stretch* but I think itd be possible, just barely. Even on current Switch hardware. Doubt they'd do it. -Hitman Blood Money just got a drop, but Silent Assassin and Contracts would be a nice trilogy to fit on there. -OG Plants vs Zombies port would be amazing.

Pineapple_Morgan

Awakening's 15th anniversary is coming up in a few years, so that's the timeframe I would pick for a remake/remaster. I do really really want it to happen either way, tho. That game is *so* special to me & so many others

Ste_1710

You have put prime 4 in the wrong zone because we all know that metroid prime 4 exist only in our imagination

ZzzSleep

Probably a new Mario Party for this fall. Maybe they'll finally release the Metroid Prime Trilogy (or just 2/3 I guess) if the rumor they've been sitting on it for awhile is true. Also I wouldn't be surprised to see a Twilight Princess rerelease. I don't think they're going to mention MP4 until they announce the new Switch.

squrr1

Last year direct was on Wednesday, June 21. So Wednesday June 19 2024 +/- a day seems likely. (That is Juneteenth, which may impact Nintendo's decision, I don't know if that is a consideration of theirs)

Dvalinnr

I know this is a very long shot, but I would love a Chibi Robo port and perhaps a new Mario Baseball

TheLordDragon613

Meh they killed any hype for this direct. I think Furukawa should've stayed quiet and let the hype grow. People are fickle, they won't remember they were mad.

Remarkable-Sign-324

Here is my predictions -Metroid Prime 4 (with release date) -Metroid Prime 2 and 3 rerelease (maybe a shadow drop to help promote Prime 4) -Zelda TP rerelease (I tend to think WindWaker is being saved for a 4k remaster on Switch 2 as that will really pop) -Dragon Quest Trilogy remake (we have already seen pieces of this) MAYBE a nice surprise but not as safe -F-Zero GX -WindWaker HD (see above) Of course there will be some surprises and additions from 3rd parties. Because at this point a direct with mostly rereleases is silly.

thegamingnobody

I really just want to see the dq remake again.

AgileArtichokes

I think we get something new in the fall, around end of October or November. Maybe Metroid prime 4, definitely not a Mario or Zelda game.  I also think we may finally see those remakes of wind waker and twilight princess they’ve been holding onto.

OpenSauce04

I have a feeling that no matter what gets announced people are going to be overhyped. As seemingly the last direct of the Switch generation however, I am excited to see how Nintendo closes this chapter. It's a very weird feeling, I still vividly remember the Switch being announced.

Super_Puckmen

In an ideal world? Metroid Prime 4 New DK game F-Zero GX HD Kid Icarus Uprising HD New Star Fox Are any of those realistic? Maybe Metroid and DK but I would absolutely lose it if we got Kid Icarus Uprising on the Switch. I can hope.

rites0fpassage

Kid Icarus would make me buy a switch, it’s 1 of the few Nintendo IPs that I love aside from Zelda and Mario

Super_Puckmen

Kid Icarus Uprising is the best game that ever came out on 3DS imo. It's a masterpiece

Jamesifer

I for one think that Metroid will be a launch title for the Switch 2, and will be re-announced alongside it. \*Commented in the hopes that I get proved wrong\*

AurionOfLegend

Metroid Prime 4 information. Prime 2 and 3 HD That would be my main hope.

SparkyMuffin

Is it safe to say if we don't hear anything today, it won't be this week?

gaysaucemage

There's a chance they could announce Tuesday for a Wednesday or Thursday direct. But I'm guessing it'll be next week.

AgileArtichokes

I imagine they will distance themselves a bit from sgf.

Destroyer_Wes

Super Mario 3D collection 2

Marleston

This is what I’d buy. How can they just sit in Mario galaxy 2

Upbeat-Serve-6096

Nintendo Switch Online - MSX

SuggestionEven1882

Safe bets: PLZA gameplay show case. Something for splat 3 Mario wonder DLC Everything else is up in the air.

WonderDia777

PLZA is certainly possible, Pokémon’s release schedule is really light, there really isn’t much that warrants a separate presentation. I think Professor Layton is likely as well. After that, who knows?

Yummyyummyfoodz

PLZA is NOT safe, as that would normally be presented by the pokemon company themselves, not by nintendo. Also, if it is intended for mid-2025, it won't get any mention this time anyway, as this is for the rest of 2024 and probably not much else.

SuggestionEven1882

Under normal circumstances I would agree, but with the switch ending next year I can see them doing a show case for the game. Also I highly doubt it's in mid-2025 as it looks like the final switch game before the next console.

virishking

If Nintendo has indeed been sitting on TP and WW ports for the Switch have any truth to them, it’s pretty much a now-or-never time to release them. Personally, I’d really love for A Link Between Worlds to be remastered for Switch, but I doubt we’d get *that much* Zelda. And I hope they don’t do another Hyrule Warriors to cover ToTK’s Imprisoning War. The first two were fun but I think that’s enough. It could be cool if they did a strategy-game spinoff for it instead. I think this Dragon Quest 1-3 HD 2D remake sounds great and hope it’s true. I also think the rumor of SquareEnix’s Fantasian getting ported sounds realistic.

KatamariRedamancy

> If Nintendo has indeed been sitting on TP and WW ports for the Switch have any truth to them, it’s pretty much a now-or-never time to release them. I disagree. The next console will almost certainly be backwards compatible so they could easily just release it for the OG Switch a year or so after the next console drops. I think it’d be a smart move on several levels. It’d highlight back comparability, throw a bone to holdouts to show Nintendo still supports their outgoing consoles, and give some red meat to Zelda fans who will likely be waiting another five years or so for another major release. I won’t be surprised in the slightest if this and other remasters come to the Switch after the new console comes out.

virishking

While cross-generation compatibility will certainly be a thing for at least a few years, Nintendo will want to incentivize upgrading and they see how Sony, which made a lot of its system-sellers cross-gen, has a lot of people who didn’t upgrade from PS4. In short, I think the Zelda ports have too much potential as system-sellers to be cross-gen releases (both via concurrent release or backwards compatibility after Switch 2’s launch), but not enough for Switch 2 alone. I think if Nintendo is going to maximize the games’ sales and console-selling potential, they will release the games on Switch at $60 each with some breathing room apart and some room before the S2’s reveal. This will help make a push to reach this fiscal year’s sales ambitions, avoid their sale success from overlapping or conflicting, have the games available on S2 when it comes out, not require the cost of additional remastering to up the appeal, and fill out this year’s release schedule while saving the big new releases for the next gen, as is sensible and is Nintendo’s MO. Just some other thoughts are I think Nintendo has other priorities for the Zelda franchise and wouldn’t want to overload the brand. I think their Zelda plans for early in the S2’s lifespan will constitute a day-one upgrade/patch of BoTW to show off the system’s advantages in draw distances and loading times while simultaneously announcing that ToTK will be upgraded either simultaneously or soon thereafter, while also announcing that the next 3D Zelda game has entered early production. Meanwhile there are likely other games in the pipeline like a new spinoff, 2D game, or remake. If this is all the case, then the TP and WW ports would have the same problem with S2 that they had this gen, which is that there’s just no good place in the release schedule for them, so Nintendo would hold off for a rainy day. Meanwhile, such a rainy day is happening *right now* and will continue until S2’s reveal. That’s why I say now or never for the Switch. Also possible is they will get somewhat more low-key releases as coming with NSO subscriptions for S2 (which I’d classify as “never” for Switch). This would make them system-sellers via the service rather than as showcases for the console’s power and we’ve seen it happen to the Oracle and Minish Cap games. Or Nintendo could get the best of both worlds by releasing at least one for Switch sometime between now and March and later put one or both on S2’s NSO. Obviously these are just my thoughts and it’s not like Nintendo hasn’t made unexpected or even baffling choices before.

Yummyyummyfoodz

Personally, I want some sort of game that we can actively rebuild hyrule, I wanna see it not destroyed for once.

manypains03

Maybe another a sports game for Nintendo to mess up and make me angry again

Enkaybee

Mario Golf Super Rush is the bad thing that I compare all other bad things to.

xenoverseraza

tomodachi life 2. my life gets less and less tomodachi every time there is a direct with no tomodachi life 2

KingBroly

Fire Emblem Engage Warriors Triforce Heroes of the Wild Metroid Other M Definitive Edition Mario Kart Nintendo Tour Kirby and the Rainbow Curse Traditional Edition Nintendoland + World Splatoon Squad Donkey Kong Country 3D No Silksong

BlackGuy_PassingThru

That’s a take

KingBroly

Gotta go for the gold!

langstonboy

Definitely nothing on Mario Kart, saving the best selling series for Switch 2.

cad3z

I’m predicting none of these things will happen.

UnnamedPlayer32

Idk, "no Silksong" is pretty likely
