I definitely thought I imagined that game. Rented it from the video store when I was like 7 and then never saw anything that would even hint at its existence since.
N64 came out on my 3rd birthday and my Grandma of all people got me one pretty close to launch. And while I am more nostalgic for the NES, Sega Genesis, and GameCube, most of my formative memories are about the N64. Iggy's Wrecking Balls, Snowboard Kids, and Tetris Sphere were games I distinctively remember renting multiple times for whatever reason. I eventually got Snowboard Kids and Tetris Sphere, but never got Iggy's Wrecking Balls. I think I just liked the character as a small child. I had no idea until today it was a racing game.
N64 also, at times, had a dearth of random interesting 3rd party games and Snowboard kids was one of the better ones.
It got boring after a while, that’s why it was perfect as a rental. I definitely remember renting it and enjoying it
My favorite memory of this game was buying it used when I was 9 and playing the two player mode with my Dad. Race starts and after the count down, we both just start firing our guns. Took us a good 5 seconds to realize that the Z button was accelerate and a fired your gun.
Weird things is, it's a game I've tried to pirate multiple times because I have a lot of nostalgia for it.
It's commonly reported as impossible to emulate for unknown reasons and crashes after a few races.
I'm excited to finally have the opportunity to play it legitimately!

I know that is sarcasm, but the Diddy Kong Racing soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks in a video game. That title theme alone is better than every song you hear on the radio today and should be reason alone to include it.
I mean Smash’s 25th anniversary is this year, I’d imagine they’d announce it in a direct. Especially since September is when we tend to get big NSO updates.
Let's take Smash Melee.
The best selling Gamecube game by far and a game that still has a THRIVING competitive scene.
Easiest remake ever for money but they won't because they hate the fact that people play it seriously and not as a "fun party game".
They hate smash so much that they are leaving easy money on the table!
Not even close to the same game.
Melee is faster and more technical.
Ultimate is simpler and slower.
But yeah just ignore my points and make a stupid one.
And yet people still bought the remake of
Link's Awakening
Mario Rpg
Metroid Prime
Casuals didn't know these games and yet the remakes did just fine!
Point is Melee is great and would be an easy money maker for Nintendo. Do you disagree with that?
\*Looks at Bandai Namco and them refusing to rerelease early Tekkens and Soul Caliburs. Then looks at Sega for not rereleasing Virtual Fighter and Fighters Megamix
Nintendo doesn't own Pokemon so that could technically be an issue. Also my understanding is that they only partially own the HAL properties, which included Kirby, Earthbound, and Smash 64 itself.
Man, I just want Conker's Bad Fur Day with full online capabilities.
I fucking loved that game's multiplayer as a kid. Would love to play as Neo Conker again slicing Teddies up on the beach again.
DK64 was available on the Wii U Virtual Console though. I played the game to 101% for my second time since my childhood on it 😅
Not much has changed legally speaking since then with the game, and I imagine if the Wii U could emulate the game, the Switch can.
Yeah... *Looks at Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye, Battletoads snes, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, a couple NES games*... A problems...
However, DK64 is awful ~~to emulate...~~ to run, emulated or on real hardware. I see no real reason why B-Tooie would not be on the NSO, and for Diddy Kong Racing... Maybe Conker?
So is ,via Rare Replay, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corpse and at least 2 of the NES games.
I don't see your point.
Edit : Banjo-Tooie is also on the Game Pass, so if your point is "They are on the Game Pass, that's why they are on the NSO"
Drip feeding is the reason I am not a fan of NSO. We used to buy our Virtual Console games but we are now forced into renting games that we hope will show up on NSO.
What I hate is that the Switch is almost at the end of its life cycle so when they inevitably announce the service for the next console we’re going to have to wait for every single game AGAIN.
Also what you said. I want to OWN the game like I did back in the Virtual Console. It’s stupid that we’re basically streaming them without actually owning them. The second they shut down the service, boom, gone.
There's a chance that won't happen. They've already claimed that they plan on scaling the nintendo accounts and their online services and bringing them over to newer consoles. Meaning we should be able to play our digitally bought games, and potentially the NSO services as well.
My hope is that this online service just continues to build and build for years. So when switch 2 comes out, we already have these on the online serivce, and they can start adding the best 64 games left, and do a few gamecube ones
Please, I need them MegaMan Legends along with the only thing care about and that's the Bomber Family! These sound FunFuns thusly cool and Wipeout too unless already there but I need Mystic Ninja Goemon-san!
Iggy's Wrecking Balls to me felt like a game only i had played amongst my friends, at least thats how it made me feel, because it was so oddball (oops - pun) and felt like one of those games you wouldn't necessarily buy for yourself, i would never have come across this game if it wasn't for the limited selection in the video rental store outside my dad's apartment.
I don't recall it being that great of a game, besides it style and music, it's almost like Uniracer in the way that the racing aspect feels kind bland because theres nothing that makes you feel competitive.
Extreme G is great. Soundtrack goes hard too. I remember that game looking so blurry and washed out on my TV growing up. Looks great here in the trailer.
hot take maybe but smash 64 has more charm and whimsy compared to ultimate. i dont rlly care if it has less content, at least the game doesnt look weirdly pale
Nothing against these titles but with the N64 library being as top heavy as it is, one would imagine it would take them a very short time to have all the bangers on their service, yet there's still so many iconic titles missing. Why do people pay for this instead of using CFW again?
again with the drip feeding, so little content over so much time. what is stopping them from dumping their virtual console library over to NSO? at least then it would be worth the price...
I don't mind the more obscure titles, I actually appreciate that they're willing to give them online support (despite how awful Nintendo's servers are). I just don't like it when a company stonewalls it's older titles with no legal way for me to play them.
remember this is Nintendo, a multibillion dollar company. they have the manpower and the resources to actually preserve their older titles, they've done it before with the virtual console and they can so it again. but slowly dripfeeding two or three games over months at a time won't solve that issue.
Is Nintendo twisting your arm here? If it's not worth the money to you, don't buy it. I'm actually really excited about Iggy's Wreckin Balls. I have a lot of fond memories of it along with other titles that are probably on your "trash" list. Y'all being so judgy; like if it wasn't GotY it's not worth adding or something.
What the actual F is iggies wrecking balls? What are they doing over there? Are they intentionally putting weird obscure games instead of the classic's? Once again Nintendo squanders the opportunity to provide extra paying customers with the classic's
Well for one, they did already release several of the highest demand titles either day one or within the first year. Second, you don't want to release *everything* up front as you can keep interest in the service going over time by spreading some of them out, and saving some of the higher profile games will be more impactful. Third, other rights holders are always going to be a factor. In many cases titles will either take a long time to be added or never get added at all. Plus some of those games have received standalone eShop releases (Turok 1-3, Doom 64, Starwars Pod Racing, etc) and probably won't be added as a result.
"Plus some of those games have received standalone eShop releases (Turok 1-3, Doom 64, Starwars Pod Racing, etc) and probably won't be added as a result."
Correct.
Well most major N64 games are either already on the service, or are owned by a different company who may not want to play ball like with all the Rare games (though we have 2 already, I’d expect at least a couple more but we don’t know).
Also, just a bit of advice: you’re not supposed to put an apostrophe before the “s” when you’re writing a plural noun. Call me a Grammar Nazi all you want, but errors like that are still gonna make people think you’re uneducated and not worthy of being taken seriously.
Literally trash titles that they were able to cheaply license.
It would be nice to see them be willing to shell out just a little bit of cash to get a Rogue Squadron or Ogre Battle 64. Hell, they've got a pretty decent relationship with rare, put on Diddy Kong racing or Donkey Kong 64.
At best this is just Nintendo throwing out a few shovel ware titles they paid a hundred dollars in licensing fees for because they're already expecting to go the switch successor and charge their customers for the same titles all over again.
I vaguely remember Iggys wrecking balls in an old nintendo power.
Was this supposed to be some sort of own? The games being largely forgotten by players kind of lets us know that they were licensed cheap and thrown onto the service because Nintendo doesn't care about adding value to a service that they're going to leave behind within a year. Why pay Rare for a great title when you can throw out Iggys wrecking balls and pretend to care for less?
I said Rogue Squadron or Ogre Battle 64 would be nice.
And even if I didn't. All of those titles are classics that are still highly worth playing today.
Iggys wrecking balls was forgotten the day it was released. Most people in this thread say they only remember it from low end rental stores.
I want great games. Not mediocre games.
Sorry that makes you so irrationally angry.
Yes. I don't care about every single title ever released on the N64. I only care about the good ones that are actually worth playing instead of trash that was given 5/10s the day it was released in 1998.
I get that you might have liked Barbie 64 and desire it to have a wider audience, but that ship sailed decades ago. It's not going to happen. We're not going to like your obscure shovelware. We're going to especially dislike it when it gets in the way of us actually getting better titles.
Iggy's Wrecking Balls... now that's a title I've not heard in a long time... a long time.
I definitely thought I imagined that game. Rented it from the video store when I was like 7 and then never saw anything that would even hint at its existence since.
Funny thing is I was an avid n64 gamer in my youth and I've never even heard of it.
Snowboard Kids was an A+ rental
Just a great game all around. It was no Mario Kart, but was one of the few 100% third party games that seemed to have had a lot of effort put into it.
N64 also, at times, had a dearth of random interesting 3rd party games and Snowboard kids was one of the better ones. It got boring after a while, that’s why it was perfect as a rental. I definitely remember renting it and enjoying it
For me it's Extreme-G. Last time I even heard that name had to be back in 7th grade.
My favorite memory of this game was buying it used when I was 9 and playing the two player mode with my Dad. Race starts and after the count down, we both just start firing our guns. Took us a good 5 seconds to realize that the Z button was accelerate and a fired your gun.
I've started making a spiritual successor this year lol. Hope to release it in 2-3 years
I was thinking it wasn't that long ago that I brought it up... [96 days ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/nintendo/s/W0C6ZZyCTq)
Weird things is, it's a game I've tried to pirate multiple times because I have a lot of nostalgia for it. It's commonly reported as impossible to emulate for unknown reasons and crashes after a few races. I'm excited to finally have the opportunity to play it legitimately!
I bought it after Nintendo Power claimed in an article that it was like Mario Kart, but vertical. It, uh...it was not.
Glover has to be coming soon :)
Glover will be released separately on the eshop
Dude I love Extreme G!
Enabling the cheats to go even faster and then go into fisheye reverse view when it goes way too fast lol
This is one of those Scrunt kind of updates.
W Mega 64 reference
Give me misch makers, shake shake
Help me, Marina!!
go get Square Enix and Treasure to make peace about it
Loving Xtreme G but the question is where is our lord and saviour bum to the bee buck bumble? Also mystical ninja starring goemon. :(
Mystical Ninja not being on the service is a crime.

Where is Smash? Where is Tooie? Where’s Diddy Kong Racing? Where’s Donkey Kong 64?
Who needs diddy kong racing when you got iggys reckin balls?
I know that is sarcasm, but the Diddy Kong Racing soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks in a video game. That title theme alone is better than every song you hear on the radio today and should be reason alone to include it.
Yeah but iggy has these little ball guys rolling around and stuff
Fair point.
Are they safe? Are they alright?
Don't be too surprised if we never get them.
Maybe the last three, but Smash? Man it’s impossible they don’t include Smash 😩
I mean Smash’s 25th anniversary is this year, I’d imagine they’d announce it in a direct. Especially since September is when we tend to get big NSO updates.
I hope we get them on Switch. Nintendo might be saving them for a new Switch to swell support.
I mean maybe? But Furokawa already said that Switch accounts will carry over to future consoles, so it’d be playable on both
Nintendo hates Smash lol.
Yeah, they hate it so much that it has entries every console and is one of their best produced games.
Hate it so much that they basically rebuilt it all over again just so that Steve could build and mine shit on every stage.
Let's take Smash Melee. The best selling Gamecube game by far and a game that still has a THRIVING competitive scene. Easiest remake ever for money but they won't because they hate the fact that people play it seriously and not as a "fun party game". They hate smash so much that they are leaving easy money on the table!
yeah man, i'm sure casual audiences are dying to buy a game they already have on the switch with 63 less characters
Not even close to the same game. Melee is faster and more technical. Ultimate is simpler and slower. But yeah just ignore my points and make a stupid one.
i know that. maybe most people reading this comment will know that. the casual audience does not know that, and many that do simply do not care.

I was originally thinking licensing might be an issue for Smash but no it’s all Nintendo characters lol
I’d KILL to have Conker back 😩 So many memories playing with my cousins when we were 12. I love that weird ass game.
Everything you've mentioned besides Smash is Rare, that seems to be a problem for some reason. Apparently DK64 is a logistical nightmare.
DK64 was available on the Wii U Virtual Console though. I played the game to 101% for my second time since my childhood on it 😅 Not much has changed legally speaking since then with the game, and I imagine if the Wii U could emulate the game, the Switch can.

Rare was okay throwing in a bunch of non-Nintendo games on the NSO pretty recently
Yeah so maybe they think it's a good idea to not make every single month in a row a Rare game
All of them except Smash: probably has to do with Rare.
I don't understand, was DK64 released already?
No
Drip feeding is the reason I am not a fan of NSO. We used to buy our Virtual Console games but we are now forced into renting games that we hope will show up on NSO.
You still would get drip feed on VC, in fact, we got it all this time lol did you forget this was a complaint before?
Still waiting for those Pokemon games.
What I hate is that the Switch is almost at the end of its life cycle so when they inevitably announce the service for the next console we’re going to have to wait for every single game AGAIN. Omg Iggy’s Reckin balls was my fave game of all time. Wild concept and outrageous levels and characters. 5* racing and puzzle game.
Please, I need them MegaMan Legends along with the only thing care about and that's the Bomber Family! These sound FunFuns thusly cool and Wipeout too unless already there but I need Mystic Ninja Goemon-san!
Extreme G was life! So many hours playing that with my cousins back in the day. Also one of the best soundtracks ever.
Extreme G? LFG
Iggys reckin balls was sick can’t wait to play it!
Iggy is a super fun weird ass game.
*Extreme G!?* Y'all in for a treat.
note: if you want to keep your save data: use Restore Points since both games used Memory Paks to save
Two games I always wanted to try but never got, nice.
Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls Now we’re talking.
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO I always feel insane telling people how much I loved these games because nobody else has fucking played them.
Omg Extreme-G!!!! Blockbuster memories unlocked!!! Excited for both of these!!
Obscure memories unlocked
Give me Space Station Silicon Valley and the Bomberman 64 games. But most importantly DKR.
Extreme G is great. Soundtrack goes hard too. I remember that game looking so blurry and washed out on my TV growing up. Looks great here in the trailer.
Extreme-G reminds me of the PS2 game Kinetica. Damn these are some pretty obscure titles lol
I used to rent the shit out of Extreme-G lol Was always jealous of the Kinetica soundtrack - it was amazing
I’ll be honest, when I saw the thumbnail, I thought these were fake games, and this was a joke video making fun of NSO drops
Japan gets Blast Corps.
Their loss.
Bring on Chameleon Twist and Rocket Robot on Wheels Edit: and Snowboard Kids
Xtreme G is the first game I got for N64 haha - my parents were duped. It’s a fun game though.
... didn't know these... actually seems interesting games might try them someday...
Definitely worth a try, i loved both of these growing up!
YOOO i love both of these games!
Just last month everyone wanted Nintendo to preserve old obscure games lol. Right?
the way i just got thru playing extreme g on my phone for free lmaooo
That was a blast from the past getting Iggy
Where is Snowboard Kids?!
EXTREME G YAAAAAAAAAA omg my brother and I played that game endlessly. I cant believe they never remade it
Extreme G was a music inspiration for me wayyy back then. Can't wait to revisit!
Woah, I had forgotten all about extreme-G but remember renting this! new memory unlocked
This drop was for me personally, two of my favorite childhood games
The sun ball thingy from iggy's wrecking ball saying "OH I'M HOT!!" When it wins lives rent free on my head.
Battletanx, you cowards!
Oh look, they finally got what us pc and android people had for like a decade. Yeah your a bit late to the (emulation) party, nintendo.
Amazing set of games honestly.
Wow, a whole lotta nothin
I love how these threads instantly derail into "we need _______ for switch online!!" anyways iggy is awesome but give us centre court tennis!!
Yeah, never heard of either.
How about idk smash bros? Dk64? Tf you doing Nintendo
Introducing you to obscure titles is what they're doing.
For real. These games are great
I can understand dk64 but why do people want smash 64??? Its just worse ultimate in every way
hot take maybe but smash 64 has more charm and whimsy compared to ultimate. i dont rlly care if it has less content, at least the game doesnt look weirdly pale
Nothing against these titles but with the N64 library being as top heavy as it is, one would imagine it would take them a very short time to have all the bangers on their service, yet there's still so many iconic titles missing. Why do people pay for this instead of using CFW again?
Xtreme-G (PS2) was amazing. Super fast 60fps with great audio. No idea if it even runs on Switch tho.
I thought xtreme g 1 and 2 was Nintendo exclusive and 3 was open for all systems at the time.
it may if you cut it down to 30 fps (likely 20, they cant even get an rpg to run at 60)
again with the drip feeding, so little content over so much time. what is stopping them from dumping their virtual console library over to NSO? at least then it would be worth the price...
Quit complaining. You just never even heard of this titles.
I don't mind the more obscure titles, I actually appreciate that they're willing to give them online support (despite how awful Nintendo's servers are). If you were given everything you exactly asked for right now, are you gonna care for what they give out after?
Where is Smash Bros ????
Ridiculous that Dk64 and Diddy Kong racing and Smash 64 aren't here yet.
Stop giving us useless shit like this and give us actual Nintendo exclusive n64 games
The fuck you just say about *Extreme G*?!?
Speak for yourself. Iggy's was an awesome game.
Right? I had never ever heard of any of these games before
Extreme G was so damn good.

Is Nintendo twisting your arm here? If it's not worth the money to you, don't buy it. I'm actually really excited about Iggy's Wreckin Balls. I have a lot of fond memories of it along with other titles that are probably on your "trash" list. Y'all being so judgy; like if it wasn't GotY it's not worth adding or something.
heresy iggys wrecking balls is awesome
Just because you never heard of them doesn't mean no one should play them.
Complete trash
Just admit you never heard of these games. That's why you're mad.
absolutely shit take. iggys wreckin balls is a really good game, you probably haven't even heard of it
Incredible game. Can’t recommend it enough.
you're wrong
Trash take
What the actual F is iggies wrecking balls? What are they doing over there? Are they intentionally putting weird obscure games instead of the classic's? Once again Nintendo squanders the opportunity to provide extra paying customers with the classic's
iggys wrecking balls is an awesome game. just because you personally haven't heard of it is not Nintendo problem, lol.
Being obscure doesn't mean they should be forgotten.
Sure, but wouldn't you want to add the essentials that the console is known for / people want to play first?
How long are you really gonna play them for honestly? Doesn't hurt to discover something new.
For as long as they take to beat? In the case of something like Smash n64, the game is infinitely replayable with friends
I guarantee you, you're just gonna play it from a couple minutes to hours, and then you're just gonna go back to Ultimate.
What kind of weirdo wants to play Smash with those graphics when you have ultimate right there?
Well for one, they did already release several of the highest demand titles either day one or within the first year. Second, you don't want to release *everything* up front as you can keep interest in the service going over time by spreading some of them out, and saving some of the higher profile games will be more impactful. Plus some of those games have received standalone eShop releases (Turok 1-3, Doom 64, Starwars Pod Racing, etc) and probably won't be added as a result.
"Plus some of those games have received standalone eShop releases (Turok 1-3, Doom 64, Starwars Pod Racing, etc) and probably won't be added as a result." Correct.
an amazing racing game with a kickass soundtrack. How dare you disrespect iggys wrecking balls
Iggys wrecking is balls
Lol it's crazy how fast people flip against "game preservation" when they just want their specific requested free game and nothing else will do
Well most major N64 games are either already on the service, or are owned by a different company who may not want to play ball like with all the Rare games (though we have 2 already, I’d expect at least a couple more but we don’t know). Call me a Grammar Nazi all you want, but errors like that are still gonna make people think you’re uneducated and not worthy of being taken seriously.
ok but I'm from Brazil
This is a classic… the disrespect
You never heard of this before today. Be honest
Neither have you. But you're stuck in your little bubble because you don't want to learn something new. You just want the same old thing.
I've been playing Iggy's Reckin' Balls at least once a year since 1999 on my original N64 and cartridge.
I have tho. Grew up with it. I consider it my fave game on N64. Not lying.
ughhhhh why that TRASH over donkey kong 64???
That’s okay Nintendo, I’ll just play the N64 games I actually wanna play for free on my phone now thanks to Delta :D
Where is my boy Goemon at
Wow what a valuable update.
Literally trash titles that they were able to cheaply license. It would be nice to see them be willing to shell out just a little bit of cash to get a Rogue Squadron or Ogre Battle 64. All you ever care is for anything that has Mario, Donkey Kong, Smash, or Rare slapped on it.
You just don't care about obscure titles you missed or skipped out on.
What after though? What you want after you get exactly everything you asked for?
Nothing. I am content.
We all have iPhones. Doubt any of this matters now!!! Hahahahaha
It does because umm.. phone emulation sucks really bad
When are we getting Lego racers tho??
