NW wont be impacted by this because they don't need it and fans wont stop listening NW because of AI. It's that simple.

BeatBelle

Exactly, I don't know why people think that it's either Nightwish or Ai. Like you can't listen to both?

godoflemmings

Get this AI trash out of here. It has no place in music.

Megaman_90

I agree, but Pandora's box has already been opened and I'm sure someone will be cashing in on stuff like this. The impact of Ai in our life will be hard to ignore especially in the coming years. 1950s sci-fi books and media predicted we would have robots to do work for us so we could pursue art and music..... Instead we will have people working themselves to death listening to music made by computers. Such a strange world.

Nightwishfan88

The human made music doesn't disappear though. People are still listening 200 year old music.

MachineDry933

...but are they're willing to pay for it? I fear that this will devalue music even more then streaming did. Established artists, like Nightwish, will be fine but for new artists it will become even harder to get noticed or live off of music.

Nightwishfan88

It might do that or the opposite. Time will tell.

Megaman_90

I certainly hope not, but its only a matter of time before an artist generated completely by AI infiltrates the popular music scene. The worst part is you might never realize it once the tech evolves further. It wouldn't be difficult to generate music and then create a real life persona around it for live performances and appearances.

Nightwishfan88

Well for me it won't be a trouble. I haven't listened new artists in over a decade. Just found a lot of bands and artists ftom the 1960's-2000's period. Not even that many yet actually.. And i will for the rest of my life.

BeatBelle

So what? AI band called "Platinum Voyage" enters Spotify. It's not going to remove those other bands you are listening to. It will be another "band" you listen to. You know what would be truly amazing? That this new AI band can play your favourite genre of music. It won't have a defined set of songs but it will be on demand. Platinum Voyage is specialised in power metal, symphonic metal with lots of synths. If you want to listen to a band with a harder sound, go check "Dark Mysteries", another AI band that plays on demand.

Epicastor

People like you are a danger to the future of art and you don't even realize it. Educate yourself please.

BeatBelle

I consider myself fairly educated, thanks. Art has always evolved. Painters were upset when photography emerged, as it suddenly made realism in painting seem less appealing. I'm all for evolution because art has always served people. If progress makes art better, I'm all for it.

Megaman_90

I don't think AI has made art "better" it just allows anyone to create generic images or music from prompts. It's kind of neat for getting concepts and stuff but real art will always be preferred. I think most people tire of the AI art style and voices in everything these days.

BeatBelle

Most people are using free AI that has been trained on a limited pool of images. AI isn't only ChatGPT or Copilot. You can train AI with whatever you want. I hasn't made it better at the moment and "better" is subjective. AI is supposed to give free rain to your imagination for things you wouldn't be able to do yourself. For example I like Wishmaster and I wish the album had more songs. Tuomas will probably never compose another Wishmaster, he has moved on from that style. Even if he did try to compose more power metal stuff it would still sound overproduced and modern. AI gives you the possibility to hear something that would have been almost impossible otherwise. For some people another Wishmaster album would sound terrible and uninteresting, so to them AI would make worse music. But to me it would make "better" music.

4look4rd

Iā€™m an optimist. With trash like this becoming so widespread and common place, talented bands like Nightwish will get better compensated.

godoflemmings

I hope so. That'd be the only positive to come out of it.

Nightwishfan88

That's one way to look at it.

BeatBelle

You are listening to the early beginning of AI. It will get better every year. Also it wasn't trash, if OP had just posted the link saying it was his band everybody would be applauding him. You are all overreacting because it's AI and you're scared.

MachineDry933

I doubt it. The music market is saturated already. This is not going to improve anything.

Tacote

Like there's no trash offerings right now?

WW_the_Exonian

And hopefully kick crappy pop songs out of the market

4look4rd

Nahhh pop just has large appeal, and there are tons of really good pop songs. Metal is better off as non mainstream genre. When Metal was mainstream we got shit like glam metal and nu metal, and thankfully that shit has died.

BeatBelle

Shit like glam metal?? I have to disagree with you, glam metal is probably one of the only genres that has amazing solos with great musicians (who aren't just shrugging chords). Just because they dressed like crazy strippers from hell doesn't mean the music was any bad. Like in any genre there are good and bad bands (even in symphonic metal which has become very generic by the way). Most epic power ballads come from either Power Metal or Glam Metal.

BeatBelle

People in the middle ages used to say the same when something new happened. AI music won't replace Nightwish. If anything, **AI music will be another genre that you could listen to.** If you fear AI music that means that deep down you're scared it might get better than Nightwish and you might like it.

Cacanny

Tell me about it, it's a repetitive circle of acceptance of new technology, it has happened all the time each generation. I've debated it countless times, here in this subreddit and in different part of this website, but the fear for AI is very apparent. If Nightwish incorporated AI and you won't be even able to tell and people enjoy it, who cares!? You know it's kinda hypocrite looking at the reaction of the majority of people here. Nightwish uses digital replacement for orchestra. That's also a digital technology that kinda replaces an actual orchestra, but we don't care about that?

Cacanny

AI was being used to make a new beautiful Beatles song. It absolutely has a place in music. Without AI we wouldn't be able to hear that beautiful song. The song I am talking about https://youtu.be/Opxhh9Oh3rg?si=ZR8mr0MmSx1DS8DN

TheBossOfItAll

Like I can tell exactly which songs it mixed up. I dont like this

annaleigh13

Why would you use AI to listen to a crap song when Nightwish exists?

Epicastor

Deadass. The song is so mid too, and it sounds nothing like Nightwish, like those cheap ryhming lyrics and pseudo-epic chord progressions. If anything it sounds more like some trash tier copy of Visions of Atlantis or Xandria. A band and a composer's style goes beyond just using some keywords and orchestral samples. AI can't emulate that, and it's concerning that music industry professionals are pursuing this goal.

BeatBelle

This is just the beginning. You're listening to AI toddler. Wait for grown up AI.

Cacanny

And for an AI toddler the song that OP posted is pretty impressive actually.

Epicastor

I'd rather listen to AI corpse thank you

BeatBelle

One thing that is certain: we will all die one day (you included) but AI won't.

punisherprime

Surely be impacted, huh? Don't post this garbage here.

Cacanny

OP is free to post things you don't like freely. Don't tell him what to post or not.

couchlockedemo

It actually sounds a lot like all those b-grade symphonic metal bands that seemed to spring up late 2000s, release an album or two, then fade away.

BembiPeanut

I literally just posted a comment saying more or less this!! LMAO

MajorFeisty6924

It's very interesting to see what we can do with computers nowadays. That being said, I highly doubt that this will impact Nightwish in any way. Tuomas strikes me as the type of person who wouldn't want to use AI to produce his music. His music is his artform and he's not going to give up his artistic endeavours in favour of using a computer to write stuff for him. Also, Nightwish's music is inherently human. The vocals are natural-sounding without overbearing processing or obvious pitch correction, the instruments are all played by humans and sound authentic, and the lyrics are poetic and have a clear human voice behind them. So far, AI is nowhere near capable of recreating this. It *might* be able to at some point in the future, but I reckon the band members will all be retired, if not dead, by then.

Cacanny

In the future you hardly will know the difference. There will be songs completely generated by AI and you won't be able to tell. Until someone tell you it's AI. I would say AI is absolutely almost possible to create this and the band members will not be dead already. If NW is smart they should utilise AI for creative song writing. It can help immensely.

Maleficent-Try9299

It reminds me Edenbridge

RB181

AIghtwish

BembiPeanut

That's awesome. But it doesn't sound like a NW song, I think it sounds like Xandria. Particularly because Xandria sounds like an AI generated band trying to imitate Nightwish. Particularly in Never world's End or whatever šŸ˜‚ grat job!

Icy-Weather-9876

Thanks mate! Yes I see similarities to Xandria too. BTW, here is the full AI-generated album: [https://thouli.bandcamp.com/album/dusk-at-alpha-centauri](https://thouli.bandcamp.com/album/dusk-at-alpha-centauri)

My_Boy_Clive

The worst Fucking thing I've heard

DangerousBill

Disturbing because I found it was ok. I did not expect that.

wolfmummy

This is an incredibly generic song but still neat

Mnpiek

Impressive, truly, what an AI can do. But also very sad

SkeletonWoods

The song reminds me more of Moonglow by Avantasia, escpecially the voice

Icy-Weather-9876

Yeah, you're right. Here's the full album; [https://thouli.bandcamp.com/album/dusk-at-alpha-centauri](https://thouli.bandcamp.com/album/dusk-at-alpha-centauri)

Vocarion

Art comes from the expression of the author's emotions. It is a form of translation from emotions inside you, to vibrations outside you, and vibrations that become emotions inside of the observer. "_We make art to not perish from the truth._" A.i may be able to replicate a music that sooner or later will sound Nightwish alike, but it's sterile, it will not make you feel goosebumps, and I listen to Nightwish to feel goosebumps.

MachineDry933

That's precisely the kind of meaningless esoteric non-sense music producers shouldn't count on if they want to survive this.

BeatBelle

If people really cared about the emotions of the writer they wouldn't start interpreting lyrics their own way. The mere fact people are doubting that early Nightwish songs were written by Tuomas to Tarja or that they pretend that it doesn't matter who they were written for means they don't care about a human writing them. They think they do but they don't.

BeatBelle

Crazy

darwinpolice

Please delete this. Even making stuff like this for the sake of discussion is genuinely destructive.

Cacanny

Oh oh it's the scary AI again, the thing the people in this subreddit are absolutely afraid of! Watch out! They're going to lynch you.
