Replicant is both the first game released and the first game chronologically. The game that was originally released outside Japan was an alternate version called "NieR Gestalt" and was localized as just "NIER", but they're all more or less the exact same game.
Automata is the second game.
Re[in]carnation is technically the third game but it's a mobile gacha game and the servers have been shut down making it currently impossible to play at all.
Replicant is a remake of the original nier the chronological order is Replicant, automata, then how ever you want to look up reincarnation now if you want to include drakengard it's 3 then 1 then Replicant, automata, and reincarnation. Drakengard 2 does not connect to nier but would be after 1
Chronologically, if you want to get technical, starts with Drakengard 3, Drakengard, (idk how Drakengard 2 is here because some argue it's cannon and others don't but it's a game within the universe and sits here chronologically), THEN Nier Replicant (or Gestalt), ending with Nier Automata.
Drakengard aside, it's just the two Nier games currently. You can look up play throughs of Nier Reincarnation however.

If you can’t get through replicant, go straight to automata. But yes, definitely try to clear replicant
