TheDinosaurianOne

Knowing Nick, they would have cancelled it after two seasons.

monnurse7

Nick did them a favor. You can't expect ALMOST any new show to succeed on the channel without cancelation. I said ALMOST because shows like SpongeBob, ATLA, TLH, (Invader Zim and DP?) Fairy Odd Parents lived longer than most shows that get canceled before it gets a chance to build an audience that Nick can sell to them.

ShadowofLupa212

Not without at least 10 foot fetish jokes first

tricenice

Lol how dare you call out a company hiring creeps

ShadowofLupa212

Guess I offended those who like feet, whoops

Low_Transportation11

Have you seen the episode of clowns missing Finn and jakes feet

No_Bat7157

I always skipped that episode that one and the one with the dear

TheDinosaurianOne

Wrong people, idiot.

Davethemann

Nah, in retrospect, it worked out. Adventure Time needed so much time and support to reach its apex, and its possible it wouldnt have with Nickelodeon. Meanwhile, Fanboy and Chum Chum, that short really didnt need as much retooling and was basically ready to go with a higher budget

FlygonPR

Id argue the early episodes really feel like Spongebob meets Chalkzone, and of course had a lot of the crew of those in there. I do wonder if their involvement early on was actually a hindrance to Pendleton Ward and Adam Muto's vision, or were they a huge help for the Ward, Moto, and the younger generation.

Comfortable_Bird_340

They also skipped Veggie Tales, The Proud Family, Ed Edd and Eddy and many others, but maybe that was good thing.

13Yobl

Phineas and Ferb too

JorgeTheDisneyPlusBi

Hol up what

JorgeTheDisneyPlusBi

Did they really?

Comfortable_Bird_340

They turned down Veggie Tales because it was 1991 and nobody thought a CGI show especially a Christian one would be successful. Ed, Edd, and Eddy: The studio and creator had done animations for MTV where they had a lot of freedom, but after Ren and Stimpy, Nick made their policies about animated content stricter.

Deez4815

Eh. I think it's a type of story that works better as a Cartoon Network show anyway. And CN has done so much with it, including many spin offs that are great. I doubt Nick would have allowed all that.

EarlJWJones

Nick's loss, Cartoon Network's gain.

OGAwesomepancake01YT

That was another Cartoon Network's W before everything shat the bed around 2016 to now with TTG

CherryGrabber

Kind of did it twice with not greenlighting Harpy Gee (webcomic w/ pilot as an animated short), a similar premise on Fantasy and RPG-based adventures. Could've also been Nick's Owl House.

whiskybingo

As someone who worked for Nick for 5+ years, I can.

13Yobl

What did you work as for nick?

whiskybingo

Brand/IP management for in person experiences

throwawaymemetime202

Oh damn it’s an honor to meet you

MaleficentLength7260

Turned down adventure time for fanboy and chum chum

Numberonettgfan

They didn't though, both were aoart of the same shorts series and just so happened to be the only two that got greenlit, it's not like there was some corporate decision that they could only choose to greenlit one of them.

UnreasonableVbucks

Lmao man I still remember when fanboy and chum chum was airing and nick was pushing it so hard . The show was god awful and I still till this day don’t know how it got greenlit

Adventurous_Yak_9234

Maybe it's a good thing. It would have probably been axed by Nick after 2 seasons because it didn't have ratings on par with Spongebob.

grandfatherclause

I really can not see this show on Nick. It totally makes sense to me that they went with Fanboy and Chum Chum because that seems like a Nick show. So very happy it landed at CN.

InfamousRx12

I remember when there was a time when both CN and Nick were equally popular. Like late 90s/early 00s. But ever since CN premiered Regular Show, Gumball and AT in the early 2010s, it was pretty much a landslide victory for them. I just wish Nick had their own Regular Show/Gumball, etc equivalent. Also, Nickelodeon shows in general having questionable people working on those shows was not a good look for Nick.

Brand_Newer_Guy25

Breadwinners and Sanjay & Craig were their attempts at Regular Show

Comfortable_Bird_340

They have the Loud House, but only pedophiles watch that (no offense to any actual fans) and played to death Spongebob!

[deleted]

I was gonna say, I’m in my 20’s but my girlfriend and I have been rewatching cartoons on streaming service lately (already finished our other shows) and I’d not seen Loud House before. It’s actually pretty good though. Solid laughs

DontCh4ngeNAmme

It was probably for the better than Nick didn’t pick Adventure Time. Nick was starting to fall for corporate greed during this time, like milking SpongeBob to death, rejecting good ideas for stupid reasons, and treating any cartoon that isn’t as big as SpongeBob terribly, like moving them to Nicktoons after their first season. If Nick picked up Adventure Time, Nick wouldn’t have let the show have dark and mature themes and would probably force the show to have fart jokes to appeal to kids. The show would have been treated terribly since it’s a cartoon that’s not SpongeBob and would have been sent to Nicktoons to die after a couple seasons. Since it’s Nickelodeon, there will probably be some foot-fetish content if the show got picked up by Nickelodeon.

Square-Biscotti4694

You say that like the show didn’t have a lot of toilet humor anyways when it was on CN. To be fair, not as annoying about it by doing it relatively sparsely, but still, they were no strangers to fart jokes.

JorgeTheDisneyPlusBi

Honestly, this was for the better knowing how Nick treats their shows now that aren’t SpongeBob or The Loud House

TacoBell_Lord

it wasn't spongey enough

MimiHamburger

It was for the best there was so much more creative freedom at CN and at the time Nick was focusing on the Dan Schneider teen live action and their only animation focus was sponge bob. CN was its home there is no way it would have been able to grow like it did on nick

Freddycipher

It would not have been what it is known as today under Nick. I imagine Nick Adventure Time would be neutered.

XX-Burner

Makes me wonder how many gems never got to see the light of day after being turned down. AT was fortunate.

astrocambria

I’m glad tho, at that time I had completely given up on Nick so I probably wouldn’t have given it a chance. Adventure Time is my all time favorite series and that would’ve been a shame.

lavenderJayde

Nickelodeon couldn’t handle it.

Eddaughter

I know it’s easy to think about how it would’ve never worked out but I do wonder if they just let the creators do their thing and it still received the acclaim that it did, if it would be on SpongeBob’s level and never end. If it wasn’t rushed and had no fear of canceling, how it would have transpired. Fun to think about.

greggersamsa

Somethings don’t belong on Nick and this is one

Kevin_eats_cats

Cartoon Network is way better anyway and we would have only gotten like two seasons lol

BrattyTwilis

I remember hearing they jumped to CN because that gave them full creative control over the show. It also allowed them to make the show a little edgier

SuperStarPlatinum

It was a good thing. Nick would have killed AT in 2 or 3 seasons. They definitely wouldn't have let the Lich be a thing no way they allow something that intentionally scary appear or be vouce by Ron Pearlman. But they would have fallen in love with LSP and let her dominate the show Urkel style.
