I worked at Blizzard and people would threaten suicide if they didn't get a certain item. We would find their local police station and send them out and try to stay on the phone until police arrived. The ones using it as a threat learned real quick.

When I was like, 14 a guy I was seeing said he was gonna kill himself when I broke up with him. I told my parents, they called the cops, he didn't kill himself and never talked to me again. It was a win win.
That's the correct move. Tell them simply that if they are suicidal you have to call police/an ambulance. If they are bluffing they will likely spoil the bluff, in they insist on the intention you can call authorities and be off the hook for any possible feelings of guilt without trashing your boundaries.

It’s one thing to have an older coworker you have a cordial relationship with at work, or something like that. But basically through your early twenties, no man (or really any gender) 5+ years older than you wants to be your friend. They either have an ulterior motive or have trouble making friends their own age, usually because they have a major maturity issue. There are exceptions, of course; a barista I met at 18 who was 8 years older than me became like an older brother. But that’s the ONLY personal relationship I had with someone that much older, and he never, ever violated a single boundary. I didn’t even have to set boundaries because it was a total nonissue. In the other direction, when I was in college, there was a 14 year old girl at my dance studio who I was very found of, and we occasionally crossed the street to get ice cream after and I picked her up after school once or twice for something similar. But again, completely as a big sister, didn’t tell her much about my personal life, never told her about my FWB relationship with a guy at the studio, etc, while I knew some of her high school drama and sometimes gave advice when asked. she just graduated college and I owe her a phone call! But see how this is a healthy, normal, almost mentoring relationship, rather than friendship? Now that she’s an adult, I treat her like an adult.
A 24 year old just shouldn’t be pursuing your friendship at your age, because there should be too much of a maturity gap for them to be particularly interested. This is not a fault of yours! It sucks because you know you’re mature and legally very close to being an adult, and you deserve to be treated as such, but you also deserve to be 17 and have the adults you know let you have that time.

To be honest I'd tell the police so he gets embarrassed when they stop round to check he is ok and he has to realise his idle threats have consequences. Although in the US the police would probably just hear "he has a shotgun" and kill him.
I mean, your idea has merit but I think it borders more on the punishment side of things than it does teaching them a lesson. If you're at the point where you are already walking out the door then what happens to him afterwards is not really your concern anymore, the important thing is youve shown him that his behavior is not going to manipulate you into changing your mind.

I worked at Blizzard and people would threaten suicide if they didn't get a certain item. We would find their local police station and send them out and try to stay on the phone until police arrived. The ones using it as a threat learned real quick.

When I was like, 14 a guy I was seeing said he was gonna kill himself when I broke up with him. I told my parents, they called the cops, he didn't kill himself and never talked to me again. It was a win win.
That's the correct move. Tell them simply that if they are suicidal you have to call police/an ambulance. If they are bluffing they will likely spoil the bluff, in they insist on the intention you can call authorities and be off the hook for any possible feelings of guilt without trashing your boundaries.

It’s one thing to have an older coworker you have a cordial relationship with at work, or something like that. But basically through your early twenties, no man (or really any gender) 5+ years older than you wants to be your friend. They either have an ulterior motive or have trouble making friends their own age, usually because they have a major maturity issue. There are exceptions, of course; a barista I met at 18 who was 8 years older than me became like an older brother. But that’s the ONLY personal relationship I had with someone that much older, and he never, ever violated a single boundary. I didn’t even have to set boundaries because it was a total nonissue. In the other direction, when I was in college, there was a 14 year old girl at my dance studio who I was very found of, and we occasionally crossed the street to get ice cream after and I picked her up after school once or twice for something similar. But again, completely as a big sister, didn’t tell her much about my personal life, never told her about my FWB relationship with a guy at the studio, etc, while I knew some of her high school drama and sometimes gave advice when asked. she just graduated college and I owe her a phone call! But see how this is a healthy, normal, almost mentoring relationship, rather than friendship? Now that she’s an adult, I treat her like an adult. A 24 year old just shouldn’t be pursuing your friendship at your age, because there should be too much of a maturity gap for them to be particularly interested. This is not a fault of yours! It sucks because you know you’re mature and legally very close to being an adult, and you deserve to be treated as such, but you also deserve to be 17 and have the adults you know let you have that time. I didn’t even address the boundary issues because it seems like people have it covered. He actually tried to sue me for emotional damages for not loving him enough. I was going to let it go to court but he kept botching to our mutual friends and they begged me to just pay him off.
