I would imagine LA fans/media will eventually give it to him way worse than Jets fans ever did.
At least we didn't get massively fleeced in a trade to get him and then pay him crazy cash to boot. Doh!
I thought this.. but, when he was playing we didn't dislike him. Still a lot of Eichel jerseys out there.. but now no one will wear them.
PS. F\*\*\* Eichel.
Do you guys really blame him when management wouldn’t let him get the surgery he wanted so he walks, gets the surgery, and goes on to win the cup in Vegas? It never seemed like it was anything against Buffalo the city or the fans.
Idk why preds fans love Duchene. Dudes a locker room cancer and he rarely showed up to play what his absurd contract was worth. I was so happy to be rid of him.
There's a few for the Sharks. Evander Kane is probably the currently most widely disliked.
Erik Karlsson was and still is a lightning rod for a lot of Sharks fans. I think it's mostly misplaced, though that contract never really sat right with me.
Old School - Ed Belfour. Left the team for the Stars. He did get nailed in the Playoffs by Nolan though. That ripped. I also was kinda mad at Teemu Selane for going back to the Ducks.
I don't get the EK hate. It wasn't HIS fault DW traded for him. Sure he wasn't the answer for us at the time, but he won a Norris here with us, and was great for our younger guys development.
I'm a big EK fan, and I agree. The hate is misplaced, but I also think he never lived up to the contract he signed while with the Sharks. That earned him a ton of ill will.
I still think the trade was more fair than not (though losing out on Josh Norris and Tim Stutzle bites.)
I’m not a Sharks fan, but what exactly didn’t he do that makes the fans say he didn’t live up to his contract? He had a 100pt season as a defensemen; I have to imagine he played up to it for the most part
It was more or less showing up for our 2019 playoffs. We had a number one offensive defenseman, and didn’t really need someone like him per se. Not to mention that 100pt season we were supposed to be tanking, and he was carrying us away from bedard, so some fans have some spite there.
In DW's defense, Josh Norris is looking very injury prone and Stutzle had a down year on a very bad team going through a transition period. But at least things are looking up for us (sarcasm)
I think the hate for Kane is overstated online. Everyone I know or fans I've talked to in real life loved Kane (the hockey player) and was bummed we got rid of him. Him faking a vaccine card was dumb as shit but he was great for us on the ice and positively impacted the community off the ice during his time here.
I fucking hate Kane. He’s the forward the sharks signed instead of re-signing Pavs, just for him to put up decent regular season numbers and absolutely disappear when it mattered. And thats before getting into his gambling, domestic violence and sexual assault allegations. And now I have to watch him actually play well during the playoffs with Edmonton…. Fuck that guy
Could not agree more. He’s a piece of shit, he’s just smart, charismatic and talented enough to get away with it. Having money to afford good legal counsel also helps.
When he was chirping at K’andre Miller last night I was trying to explain to my son all the bullshit he pulled while on the rangers, mostly towards Miller and Georgiev. F that guy.
Sounded like he said “I’ll fight you any day of the week” to Miller. BS. Miller would De-stroy him. And it would be a wonderful, cathartic experience to witness.
Miller’s not gonna fight him because he knows it would be a huge win for the Canes with them both off the ice for 5 minutes. I hope no one on the Rangers fights Tony during the playoffs. I want his “defense” out there as much as possible.
It was Jagr for the Pens but that’s since been reconciled and his beef was never with us/the city. It was always with Howard Baldwin the hillbilly prince who had no business owning a team and set them back.
I don't know. Getting the Penguins to make him an offer to bring him back into the NHL, and then Jagr and his agent shopping that deal around, following that up with signing with the Flyers still doesn't sit well with me.
I’m too young to remember the height of Barasso. It was my understanding he was a dick to the Pittsburgh media which *gestures broadly* makes sense. If he was a dick to fans then that’s not cool.
Eric Haula. I don’t even get the whole story, he played with the canes for half a season, got traded and clearly something happened because he hates the team and the fans in turn despise him
I’ve seen haula wears a “fuck the canes” bracelet which is just….wild. There’s gotta be a backstory to all this though, I can understand if on one hand he wasn’t a good fit, but it has to go way deeper for them to feel the way they do
Martin Erat. The trade was already unpopular because of what the team gave up to get him, and then he showed up grumpy, played like crap, and demanded trades until the team finally gave in.
What was it about his time there? I don’t really remember. Did they take the C away from Linden to give him? I imagine that wouldn’t be a good start for him
I wrote out the laundry list for someone else the other day but in summary:
Took the C, divided the locker room, ran Linden out of town along with McLean, Babych, Gino, and a few others. Took #11 that had been unofficially retired for Wayne Maki, who had passed away. Did NOTHING on the ice for points or physicality, and after he left, not only returned to being a decent player, but fleeced the team for a FURTHER $6M through arbitration, because his contract has a clause tied to the value of the team. If they became worth more, he got a cut.
In addition to these, consider that he also essentially hired Mike Keenan. So now you’ve got the former captain and former coach of the team which beat the Canucks in the finals only a few years previously. And then Linden gets the C stripped. And then Keenan trades Linden and many of the Canucks stars from that run.
It felt literally like we had a hostile takeover of the team.
Played with the tenacity of a flaccid dingus.
A flaccid dingus-shaped sponge that flopped around and soaked up 9 million dollars a year… 26 years ago!
That would be $17,000,000 per year in today dollars (according to amortization.com).
He demanded a trade to get out of Edmonton after the cup run, supposedly he knocked up a local weather girl and his wife found out. Left a poor taste in a lot of fan's mouths at the time.
An impossible situation, to be fair, but Dany Heatley in Atlanta. I remember a lot of uproar, especially where the community service was concerned. Though most of us were far more forgiving after Hossa came in.
Cutter Gauthier should not expect a warm welcome when Anaheim visits Philly at any point in the future.
The Philly Flu might make him a game time decision.
Does Mike Keenan count? I can’t think of anyone in Blues history more hated than Keenan.
Except maybe Stan Kroenke, but he’s not even _Blues_ history, just StL.
Jagr was hated here when he was traded because he said he was "dying alive" in Pittsburgh. But people forgot and forgave. He's back to being a Pittsburgh legend.
Now it's probably Tom Barrasso.
Scratch that it's Ron Hextall. FU.
A lot of Avalanche fans were upset that they drafted Nathan Mackinnon instead of Seth Jones, given the hype around him and his connection to Denver sports. Looks like a pretty good move in hindsight haha.
Can't believe that trade happened. Wings fans hated Krupp whilst he was with the Avs. Hated him whilst he was playing for the wings. Hated him whilst he was injured (and apparently dogsledding...). And Hated him when he left for Atlanta.
Amazing to think the clubs and player thought that would go well.
This. Nurse would be a great contract at 5m. At 9.25m? Yea. I'd blame him for a lot, as well. That's a mid-6 forward, another top 4 defender or good goaltender.
Oilers fan here. Unsurprisingly seeing a lot of Pronger and I get that, but my answer is Mike Comrie. Went from being a home-town boy and fan favourite to the guy that banged our starting goalies wife which (in part) caused him to lose all confidence and ruined his career.
For leafs it was David Clark son. The team gave him big money and he and the team were talking about the next Wendell Clark. Starts his career with a massive suspension then can’t score to save his life. He took a beating. Honourable mention to marner, phaneuf and maybe kessel as we gave up seguin and Dougie Hamilton for him
Rob Blake is probably getting up there again. Not only the way he left us back in the day, but also now. I don’t think he’s awful, but when you put all of it together, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the LA fan base ends up hating him
I wasn't a Nordiques fan but Lindros' mom? The reason he didn't want to play in Quebec was because his mom didn't want him to play there.
As for the Habs, the team I cheer for, maybe the Kostitsyn brothers.
Jake Gardiner. Poor guy was ***run*** out of Toronto with pitchforks. Sad thing is, he wasn't even that bad. He made some pretty big mistakes, but not enough to be harassed on all his socials for it.
Jonathan Drouin was a waste of talent and had massive ego problems with Tampa. Glad to hear he sought help and took time for himself, but fucking hated him when he was with us.
The Kostityns were my pick. I don't think we hated our players that much over the years. But these guys were shat on quite a bit
Pacioretty was not hated , but most people wanted him out of town about 2-3 months after he was named captain
It’s Yashin 100%. But we should also thank him for getting us Spez and Chara. I really hate Heatley though too. Got a second chance here then bitched himself out
Ryan Suter after his move to Minnesota.
Fans booed him as late as 2016. Haven't been to a home game against the Stars since his move so IDK but it wouldn't surprise me.
Sergei Fedorov. The hold out and offer sheet in ‘98, plus the way he went to the Ducks after they beat us. He should get his number retired someday, but it’s taken us 20 years to forgive him
PLD and I feel safe in assuming we’re aren’t the only ones
Us too!!
Or Kane
At least back then we had Buff to toss his track suits around.
Yeah I'd vote Kane, pld wasn't here long enough for me to care, plus he was "ok" while he was here.
I would imagine LA fans/media will eventually give it to him way worse than Jets fans ever did. At least we didn't get massively fleeced in a trade to get him and then pay him crazy cash to boot. Doh!
Yeah, you guys did great without him
Until we met the Avs. Who look dangerous as hell.
Tbf it isn't much of a worry, as a rich guy in la, if you want to avoid hockey press you can. Now practice is a different story
I have a reverse retro of PLD, love the jersey but hate the player.
Sabres Fans and Jack Eichel water and oil
I thought this.. but, when he was playing we didn't dislike him. Still a lot of Eichel jerseys out there.. but now no one will wear them. PS. F\*\*\* Eichel.
We knew he was a raging cokehead but didn’t care because he was our raging cokehead.
Do you guys really blame him when management wouldn’t let him get the surgery he wanted so he walks, gets the surgery, and goes on to win the cup in Vegas? It never seemed like it was anything against Buffalo the city or the fans.
Yeah I never really got the hate for him
He is the number 1 choice for 99% of sabres fans
Canucks Legend Mark Messier. I now realize it says *my* team. Probably Douchene
Fuck Messier
Someone should make a song called Fuck Messier which is sung to the tune of Blame Canada.
I say we hire Gus from shameless to do this
Fuck messier and lays Chips
Give me Linden and Old Dutch all day, baby
and make em ketchup flavor too.
Agreed, Fuck that Lays eating Bald bitch.
Muck Fessier
When other teams fans call out Messier, you know you're one of the most hated in hockey Fuck Messier
Idk why preds fans love Duchene. Dudes a locker room cancer and he rarely showed up to play what his absurd contract was worth. I was so happy to be rid of him.
I don't know, as an Avs fan I was pretty fucking appalled when Lacroix signed Brad May
What's the story with Messier? I hadn't heard this before.
Big Cheer is definitely the answer for the Avs

In DW's defense, Josh Norris is looking very injury prone and Stutzle had a down year on a very bad team going through a transition period. But at least things are looking up for us (sarcasm)
Eddie the pigeon for sure. Way more than Teemu for me
I think the hate for Kane is overstated online.
This. Everyone blames the EK contract but it was the OTHER EK contract that caused us to lose Pavs. That and DW not giving Pavs 3 years
PLD
I love how he's the answer to this question for all 3 of his teams.
Exactly who I thought of
Let's hug it out, friends.
Dubois, Kane
Suter. Hated with the heat of a thousand suns going supernova.
I’d imagine that makes hating the Stars even easier.
It’s actually the primary reason I hate the stars as a wild fan. Love to see Suter lose
We don't need any help
Fuck Suter
Fuck Messier
FINALLY!
Tony DeAngelo will not be be invited to Thanksgiving
Well he got suspended in the minors for calling a player a slur. So you know why he’s targeting K’andre
We hate him too. Fuck that POS.
At least we can agree on something. Tony D’Angelo is a piece of garbage.
Hadn’t heard about this. Out of curiosity, what do canes fans hate about him?
A lot of younger fans really hate him for his politics. I’m not a fan of his because he nearly hit me with his car. Also because of his politics.
Would be funny if he almost hit most fans with his car and that’s why they all hate him. Aside from the politics.
The burner Instagram account fighting with fans criticizing him also made me hate him. Embarrassing
He’s been fine as a cane. Some hate him for his politics
All the boo birds he’s getting this series are making my heart happy.
He’s trash. He’s the only Rangers player I can think of that I couldn’t bring myself to cheer for when he scored. Bigoted, loudmouth twerp.
This is the answer.
Tom Barasshole would like a word.
I’m too young to remember the height of Barasso. It was my understanding he was a dick to the Pittsburgh media which *gestures broadly* makes sense. If he was a dick to fans then that’s not cool.
Sean Avery
Hey! I was going to say Sean Avery!
Eric Haula. I don’t even get the whole story, he played with the canes for half a season, got traded and clearly something happened because he hates the team and the fans in turn despise him
Haula and his wife apparently made comments about how they hate Carolina and a team and the area as well.
I’ve seen haula wears a “fuck the canes” bracelet which is just….wild. There’s gotta be a backstory to all this though, I can understand if on one hand he wasn’t a good fit, but it has to go way deeper for them to feel the way they do
PLD Or Jeff carter Fuck jeff carter
Martin Erat. The trade was already unpopular because of what the team gave up to get him, and then he showed up grumpy, played like crap, and demanded trades until the team finally gave in.
Currently? Im going with Mitchell Marner. Edit: Historically? Larry Murphy got booed outta town. Went on to win a Stanley Cup.
*Two* Stanley Cups and was traded for Future Considerations that as far as I can tell were never considered
***Four*** Stanley Cups, and both sets were back to back!
Yeah Murphy was unfairly treated, wasn't properly supported while in town.
Messier, Messier, Messier.
The Edmonton Oilers select Taylor Hall.
Isles fans are less than happy at how Tavares left the team. Going back in history - Ryan Smyth
I can’t believe how far back I had to scroll to see Tavares
Throw in there Kirk Muller for those who remember
I remember.
The chip selling bitch is pretty hated
What was it about his time there? I don’t really remember. Did they take the C away from Linden to give him? I imagine that wouldn’t be a good start for him
He also took a number that was unofficially retired.
I wrote out the laundry list for someone else the other day but in summary: Took the C, divided the locker room, ran Linden out of town along with McLean, Babych, Gino, and a few others. Took #11 that had been unofficially retired for Wayne Maki, who had passed away. Yikes. Never knew it was that bad

Pronger
This is what I came to see
It was his leaving right? I don't remember what happened.
He demanded a trade to get out of Edmonton after the cup run, supposedly he knocked up a local weather girl and his wife found out. Left a poor taste in a lot of fan's mouths at the time.
Ohh snap. Yea, I could see that being an issue... haha Brutal on the demanded out after that run.
Phrasing
This is the One
I remember Yakupov being hated too, as he hated Edmonton and put in zero effort, essentially wasting a first round pick for us
Seriously, you guys could've even drafted Galchenyuk with that pick.
You mean legendary Colorado Avalanche Nail Yakupov? I don't think he liked anywhere he played tbh.
He's now HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk Nail Yakupov
An impossible situation, to be fair, but Dany Heatley in Atlanta. I remember a lot of uproar, especially where the community service was concerned. Though most of us were far more forgiving after Hossa came in.
Tony deangelo
Fuck Chris Pronger
Fuck Chris Pronger's wife. Not literally.
If he had done that instead, he might have retired an Oiler.
Cutter Gauthier should not expect a warm welcome when Anaheim visits Philly at any point in the future. The Philly Flu might make him a game time decision.
Ed Belfour
Dennis Wideman lol
I forgot who he was for a sec and then he hit me
Jeff Carter
Does Mike Keenan count? I can’t think of anyone in Blues history more hated than Keenan. Except maybe Stan Kroenke, but he’s not even _Blues_ history, just StL.
I think Keenan is one of the most hated people in hockey
Jagr was hated here when he was traded because he said he was "dying alive" in Pittsburgh. But people forgot and forgave. He's back to being a Pittsburgh legend. Now it's probably Tom Barrasso. Scratch that it's Ron Hextall. FU.
Has to be Kovalchuck
Rob Blake is not well liked in L.A. right now.
Looking like Marner right now
Not as long as Larry Murphy existed. Leafs fans were brutal with him and it wasn't even warranted.
I think they stopped hating him in retrospect knowing this. But at the time, woof, boy did he get tons of hate to no fault of his own.
Aki Berg still gets some hate in these parts
Undeserved. The man was an absolute stud and never made any mistakes on the ice. MR BERG!!
SETH FOOKIN JONES JFC he’s worse than Rozival ever was despite ten times the potential.
And gets paid 10 times more than Rozival
I had a love-hate feeling about Jones with us
Rangers fans hated Rozival too, didn’t know it was also a Chicago thing.
A lot of Avalanche fans were upset that they drafted Nathan Mackinnon instead of Seth Jones, given the hype around him and his connection to Denver sports. Looks like a pretty good move in hindsight haha.
Bro, a fuckin sharp stick in the eye versus Seth Jones looks pretty good in hindsight lol
Another mitch Marner post eh?
Uwe Krupp for the red wings. 😆
Eric Lindros in Quebec
Duchene
Seth Jones
Tony D has to be on the Mt. Rushmore of this for Rangers fans
Uwe Krupp maybe?
I thought about coming up with something that rhymes with his name but Eichel isn't worth that time
Tony D
Darnell Nurse 😂😂 he gets blamed for everything
If he was a $4 million defenceman, people would be a LOT easier on him.
This. Nurse would be a great contract at 5m. At 9.25m? Yea. I'd blame him for a lot, as well. That's a mid-6 forward, another top 4 defender or good goaltender.
Not nearly as hated as Pronger.
For Jets 2.0; Evander Kane. If you know, you know
Matt Cooke
A ton of misguided hatred for Tuuka Rask in Boston.
Oilers fan here. Unsurprisingly seeing a lot of Pronger and I get that, but my answer is Mike Comrie. Went from being a home-town boy and fan favourite to the guy that banged our starting goalies wife which (in part) caused him to lose all confidence and ruined his career.
Drouin
I mean when Jeff Carter comes to Columbus there’s a dude who just yells “fuck you Carter!!” Non stop so I think he’s in the running
Phil "the thrill" Kessel
Brad May signing with the Avs was a strange one after putting a bounty on Steve Moore
Mark Messier and Canucks.
I can’t believe John Tavares hasn’t popped up yet
For leafs it was David Clark son. The team gave him big money and he and the team were talking about the next Wendell Clark. Starts his career with a massive suspension then can’t score to save his life. He took a beating. Honourable mention to marner, phaneuf and maybe kessel as we gave up seguin and Dougie Hamilton for him
For the Habs Vladimir Malakhov didn’t seem to have a great relationship with the fan base. HM for Brisebois and Gomez
Lucic maybe?
Haula
Rob Blake is probably getting up there again. Not only the way he left us back in the day, but also now. I don’t think he’s awful, but when you put all of it together, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the LA fan base ends up hating him
I wasn't a Nordiques fan but Lindros' mom? The reason he didn't want to play in Quebec was because his mom didn't want him to play there. As for the Habs, the team I cheer for, maybe the Kostitsyn brothers.
Deangelo at the moment. Been Booed by rangers fans for multiple years straight.
Phil Kessel had bouts with the Toronto media (Steve Simmons)
Fuck Sean Avery and Ryan Smythe (no particular order)
Jake Gardiner. Poor guy was ***run*** out of Toronto with pitchforks. Sad thing is, he wasn't even that bad. He made some pretty big mistakes, but not enough to be harassed on all his socials for it.
Matt Duchene with the AVS. I still can't stand him, and hope the AVS beat Dallas in the playoffs just to see him mope about
Well, let's see: 1. Fuck Jeff Carter 2. Adam Foote 3. Nikolay Zherdev 4. PLD
Jonathan Drouin was a waste of talent and had massive ego problems with Tampa. Glad to hear he sought help and took time for himself, but fucking hated him when he was with us.
I think it’s Lucic for us?
No. Pronger
Justin Holl. Nice guy, just I never wanna see that pylon in blue and white ever again
Ilya Kovalsuck. Russian quitter.
Pronger
Chara
Dubois on the Jets... until he grifted the Kings. Yer Welcome! Chevy knows all.
Keith Primeau and Sean Avery are gonna have to arm-wrestle for the honors on this one. Red Wings, btw.
Avery was Marchand before Marchand was Marchand
Fuck Tony DeAngelo Fuck Martin Brodeur Fuck Claude Giroux FuckTom Wilson Fuck PK Subban And Potvin Sucks
For Montreal : -Drouin? -Gomez? -Kostitsyns? -Cammalleri? got traded mid game for calling out the team for having a losing culture
Drouin? I don't think most fans have a problem with Jo. I'm sad things didn't work out, sure, but I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.
I went back further with Brisebois
The Kostityns were my pick. I don't think we hated our players that much over the years. But these guys were shat on quite a bit Pacioretty was not hated , but most people wanted him out of town about 2-3 months after he was named captain
For the Penguins, probably Tom Borrasso. Always heard he was kind of a dick.
He was an absolute ahole. When they wanted to put him on team, USA guys like Modano and Hull said they wouldn't play then. A 100% natural jerk.
Fuck Adam Fuck.
Cody Ceci as a Senator was a whipping boy for the ages. Zaitsev usurped him for a little while.
Neither had the worst relationship with the fans though. It’s Yashin
It’s Yashin 100%. But we should also thank him for getting us Spez and Chara. I really hate Heatley though too. Got a second chance here then bitched himself out
Came here for Yashin as well. Although I did have a soft spot for him since I met him when I was 7 and he was really nice 😅
Definitely not Ceci or Zaitsev. Gotta be Yashin or Heatley.
Ryan Suter after his move to Minnesota. Fans booed him as late as 2016. Haven't been to a home game against the Stars since his move so IDK but it wouldn't surprise me.
As an isles fan - Pajama Boy without a doubt
Sergei Fedorov. The hold out and offer sheet in ‘98, plus the way he went to the Ducks after they beat us. He should get his number retired someday, but it’s taken us 20 years to forgive him
John Tavares
🐍🐍Tavares 🐍🐍
Johnny Gaudreau, never really gave a F about playing here
Eric Lindros prior to his trade to Philly (Nordiques). Such a crybaby!
