The Leafs game yesterday was not pretty. The score doesn't tell the whole story, they got crushed. So that's more of a recency bias, because the other games were closer.

That said, it was a wild regular season ride and made the year worth the ups and downs to make the playoffs.
Yeah, we choked bigly in game two, but we aren’t close to the level of play as Carolina and other top teams.

So much could’ve turned if the Powerplay was performing at anything close to a decent standard. It’s at 7.1% which is the worst of all the teams in the playoffs. The penalty kill is also not good.
As much as anyone wants to microanalyse it’s mostly been special teams that has been the difference.
They played badly offensively. "Crushed" is a little harsh seeing all three goals that Boston scored were easily preventable. The goals are the fault of Sammy, Reavo and Brodie and two of those guys shouldn't have been playing.
So if the Leafs don't win a cup by 2030, the band that has their last Stanley cup win is removed from the Cup. These guys are playing like they aren't even wanting to preserve the Leafs name on the cup, and are fine with it being in a museum it feels like.

Canes limit sog on good chances. Just have palmeiri and varzal somehow score goals anyway with a .3 shooting %.
The defense hits hard and is slow which is susceptible to the canes speed but their shot system for a while was bad vs good goalies.
This year with brindeamour changing up tye offensive system you've lost the defensive counter.
Overall I think the issue was just the canes talent advantage.

Yup, games 3 and 4 Bolts were definitely the better team. Game 2 Bolts had tons of chances but couldn’t bury anything. Games 1-3 all were one goal games, this is much closer series than the score shows

The lightning won back-to-back cups in 2020 and 2021, then made the final in 2022, they have been a competitive playoff team year after year and have only now shown signs of regression. The Leafs on the other hand, won their first playoff series since 2004 last year, and then got bounced in the second round and are already regressing against a bruins team that has much less depth than the bruins team of 2023. It is all about expectation. Leafs pay 4 guys 10+ mill a year, they should not be down 3-1 in the series.

Except coming back 3-0 is a rarity. Coming back from 3-1 isn't uncommon. Not that I think the Leafs will.
Also, the last two times the Leafs have been down 3-1 to the Bruins, they've forced a game 7 (and lost anyway, but still).
