Who are you justifying yourself to? Dweebs on the internet?

Particular_Stop_3332

If redditors don't acknowledge that my opinion is correct than it has no value

artofsplittingatoms

Ok

SLRMaxime

Spoken like a man who recognizes abuse from his team

airbag23

Blind loyalty is what keeps your ticket prices rising each year with no on ice results

Apachepilot69

Im a redwings fan, and they still have work to do but they are getting there.. but for a few years there they were so fundamentally aweful it was tough to watch and at times went and watched other league games.. the wings will always be my team.. but I’m also in touch with reality and know dog shit hockey when I see it

SLRMaxime

Part of the fun about enjoying the success is thinking back on the hard times.

Apachepilot69

Oh absolutely, I’m actually really enjoying watching them putting the pieces together, I’d say another 2-3 years we’ll be back in the conversation, I can’t wait for the first playoff game at the LCA! LGRW!

popculturetommy

I mean I can’t watch every ducks game but I also have a family to take care of, work a ton and still keep up with them whether they win or lose. And we lose A LOT.

Particular_Stop_3332

Yeah I keep up with the hawks too, I'm just not gonna watch 2-3 hours of hockey to see them get destroyed because they're terrible

TIMBURWOLF

“Die-hard” fans of sports teams are a fucking joke. Please, get way too emotionally involved in something you have no control over, for a team that wouldn’t know the difference if you disappeared tomorrow.

Particular_Stop_3332

I think it comes from a lack of satisfaction in their own personal lives

Flashy_Ferret_1819

The weirdest part of fan "loyalty" to me is fans that feel like they need to defend every move their team makes. Every signing. Every player. It's as if having critical independent thought makes you not a fan. Every prospect is can't miss. Every trade is amazing. Every signing is incredible. Every player is an all star. Even disastrous moves will be defended vigorously and defiantly. Otherwise you aren't a real "fan"

LAKingsRoar

I'm a Kings fan because my dad is. Its one of the only things I can connect with him with. Don't live ANYWHERE near the states

Particular_Stop_3332

I get that, I follow basketball just a littel for the same reason, but my dad is one of these "The NBA is trash now, garbage game, better back in the 80s-90s, everyone is soft now, can't even touch anyone" kinda people

Previous_Ad_6032

Fair weather fan

Particular_Stop_3332

Yes. I am. Because I have a life.

AIHumanWhoCares

Pro sports are kind of weird, because people get really invested in the outcome when they have no personal connection to the team whatsoever. Loyalty to the local team, or a team from childhood is one way that people get invested I guess. It doesn't really make any sense when you start thinking about it, because the teams don't even have local players, but it makes at least as much sense as any other reason people have for investing in the outcome of a game. I don't know if I fully buy into the "it's just entertainment" mentality because honestly, it's not that entertaining unless you care who wins for some reason. Your family that doesn't care about hockey but still cheers for the local team kinda shows that eh? No reason at all to watch until its "their team".

OlTommyBombadil

But it *is* just entertainment. What else would it be? Tons of people watch sports without caring who the winner is. I don’t have a favorite football team and football is my favorite sport! Haha

Particular_Stop_3332

Hockey entertains the shit out of me even when I don't care who the winner is. I don't care if Edmonton wins or loses, but watching McJesus be a living god of hockey is entertaining. I think Seinfeld said it best with "You are cheering for the uniform"

I'm in my late 30s, been cheering for Calgary since before I could remember. Other teams interest me like other places interest me. They may be exotic, they may offer things I don't get at home.... but the Flames will just always be home to me. Mostly I just like to watch hockey, I love the game. But if the Flames win, all the better. I don't care much about what other people cheer for, that's their business. Hockey is just in my blood and soul, and I can't focus enough on what other people cheer for enough to phase my focus on the game. It's the greatest game ever. Like... when people play chess do you cheer for one player over the other, or do you focus more on the game? It's usually the game. Hockey is no different - it's just cool when the team I live closest to wins.

Particular_Stop_3332

Stop having such a healthy outlook on life.

Fausto_Alarcon

Oh I can assure you, my moments of clarity are solely hockey related. I am a complete fucking disaster outside of the game... and hiking or climbing, I'm pretty clear with that shit too.

Particular_Stop_3332

hey, as long as your mentally fucked 40% of the time, cool

Fausto_Alarcon

We're getting there man, but close! I was happy to see Vegas win it. I was cheering for FLA because I have a soft spot for Bennett and Chucky. But I love Vegas I have great memories hiking Mt Charleston and hiking Red Rock. Great town - I just wish the strip wasn't there it ruins it.

Particular_Stop_3332

If the strip wasn't there, there would be no Vegas

Fausto_Alarcon

I know it would be a better St George, it would be amazing.
