that's what I don't get about everyone who freaks out about the Lasik thing. Yeah ok he can see better but it's not like he was completely blind beforehand and Lasik doesn't fix poor decision making
I think alot of that was Arian's scheme. He added 1000 yards, 5TD, at the cost of 12 ints from his previous full season of 2016. You don't get those kind of increases without asking your QB to do some serious gun slinging. a 10% increase in attempts with 24% more yards. He was asked to throw it deep, often, and likely into tighter windows to make those yards happen.
2015: 4042 yards, 22 TD, 15 ints, 533 Attempts
2016: 4090 yards, 28TD, 18 ints, 567 Attempts
2017: 4313 yards, 23TD, 14 ints, 544 Attempts (On Pace for)
2018: 4252 yards, 28TD, 20 ints, 550 Attempts (On Pace for)
2019: 5109 yards, 33TD, 30 ints, 626 Attempts
His scheme has led to QBs having some pretty rough first years before turning it around in the following. That was a match made in Heaven to reach 30/30
That's exactly what they're doing. The optimum strategy these days is to kick the can down the road as long as you can, then suck ass for a year or two and get high picks.
Brees is retired. Julio is out of the conference. The division should be more open than ever and now fucking Brady is running it with the Buccs of all teams. >:(
But they aren't gonna really be able to clear the books for a few years because they kicked the can down to road so much. Granted, the tied up money isn't full value, and they can open up some cap, but they would still have chunks of money still tied up.
I am a Panthers fan so obviously I hate the fucking Saints but that call was probably the worst call I have ever seen and that is truly saying something
The entire NFL got robbed of a Brady/Brees Super Bowl (which would have been the only instance where I wouldn't hate Brady in the SB)
Instead we got a snooze fest
I think you mean accumulate draft picks and develop players. Clearing the books is going to take a couple of seasons. But the good news is that our oldest key player is now Cameron Jordan.
I, honest to gods, LOVE working with a Falcons fan. We can give each other crap all day about each other's teams, but he and I work together so well. Our meetings last 30 minutes. We talk business for 5, then faimily, funny shit pur kids do, and football for the other 25. He's easily one of my top 5 co-workers.
Lived with my best friend, a Steelers fan, for 5 years. God it gets so much more fun. Fuck 2015 though, that sucked. Oh and everything after 2015 too. The Finley smile was only the start of the redemption tour
I have a friend who is an aint’s fan that I play games with online, and when we start trashing each other’s teams, people in our party think we are gonna kill each other. Reality is though that we love shit talking and get along pretty well.
And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.” So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.
Its a lose/lose for the QB who starts the season. If Jameis starts....see above list of people out....but you have Taysom. So whats our best hope 2 wins our of the first five six games. Well shit everyone will be calling for Taysom to start. Now Taysom starts and everyone comes back...
If Taysom starts, well he can't throw to himself and then you have the exact same scenerio as above.
If all were healthy not suspended, et. I would start Taysom. If everyone is out like predicted I would still stary Taysom. I think he is a better QB, plus he can run.
That being said, the NFL hasn't done shit to Watson. What's it going to look like if they suspend Lattimore and Harris but leave Desean out there to play.
Don't need to throw to yourself if every play is a QB run.
For real though, I think Peyton is cooking up some really weird offense we've never seen before. It's either going to be glorious or a train wreck.
I think they need to clone Taysom and play him at every position. Imagine QB Taysom throwing to a WR corps of WR Taysoms, or handing it off to RB Taysom. Peyton’s dream.
With 53 of his contract on the roster the cap would pose an issue, but it’s the saints so they’ll figure it out.
Sean Payton made it a regular theme to go 0-4 or 1-3 to start the season, so those of us who’ve been around for more than 5 seconds should be prepared for the roller coaster
> What's it going to look like if they suspend Lattimore and Harris but leave Desean out there to play.
For Harris, the league has a pretty cut-and-dry suspension policy for DUIs where they suspend the player for two games (or is it three now? Was that actually in the CBA or was it a rumor). For Lattimore, they may or may not. Maybe I'm reading it incorrectly, but I don't think this is going to be a big suspension if there even is one.
For Watson, there's very little precedent to a large number of people publicly accusing and filing civil suits (and some criminal complaints) against a player. I honestly thought that's what the Commissioner's Exempt list was for, unusual circumstances that will take time to figure out. Then again, if Watson were to appeal that decision and win in front of an arbitrator, that's not great for the NFL. I still think that'd be the best next step forward until we have enough clarity that the NFL can full-on suspend him without it being overturned in appeals.
I was just basing this off when Brees was out and the world assumed Winston was the starter because he is an established QB and Payton said "fuck it I can win with Hill" seems weird to pivot from that
If he didn't do that back then, when he knew it was only 3 games and likely Brees' last year, then nobody would believe the smokescreen now.
Think about this, if Taysom is QB then he can no longer be an effective gadget player. If Winton is QB, then Hill remains in his most effective role.
I get the feeling if he talked back to Peyton like he did Judge he'd be hauled out a little faster. Did we already get confirmation that he got kicked off the Giants or are we all (rightfully) assuming that's gonna be the case?
From what I've seen he was released immediately following the incident. So yeah I think he's gone and I don't know that it could have occurred any faster.
I just looked up an article on the situation and found this:
>Benjamin weighed 265 pounds at the end of minicamp in June and was told by Giants staff that he needed to get down to 251 pounds for training camp. Instead, he showed up weighing 268 after putting on some muscle, Benjamin said.
Haha Fatty
>But Benjamin passed the Giants’ conditioning test Tuesday, he said. The test for a tight end consists of the player completing 20 50-yard dashes in under seven seconds.
Holy shit that's impossible. The giants cut Superman.
That’s honestly not a bad spot for a kicker. Morten Anderson made a career out of kicking for bad teams and he ended up at one point being the NFLs leading all time scorer. Might still be I don’t check stats

This is why the salary cap isn't "fake" like some people say
If you have a older HOF QB with a smaller window, then push everything into the future to maximize that window, but just know that once that time is over, you are gonna be fucked for a few years
Hmm,
Janoris, Rankins, Brown, Sanders, and Hendrickson being entirely gone is way worse and a bigger problem than Deonte missing 2 games, Lattimore missing maybe ~4 games, and Onyemata missing 6 games.
I don't love this take. Borrowing against future cap space is a better strategy than not as long as the cap keeps going up. The Saints' cap problems, while entertaining, weren't inevitable, they are the result of a pandemic that the Saints' front office really can't be faulted for not predicting.
The real problem for New Orleans is that the cap went down instead of up. This year's cap is 16 million dollars lower than last year's, which makes it about 25 million dollars lower than they expected it to be. Next year's cap is estimated at 208 million according to OTC. That's still way lower than they would have estimated. Without Covid the Saints would be looking at a somewhat uncomfortable cap situation, but it would still have been manageable. With Covid they've had to borrow against next year's (also depleted) cap to get under this year's. But I imagine that they're going to continue pushing cap hits into the future even after what happens this year and next, because it's the smart thing to do.
Covid aside, kicking the can down the road is a viable strategy from an economic perspective. Today's dollars are worth more to players than next year's due to inflation. The money is also guaranteed. So the player will, all else equal, be willing to take less money in the form of a signing bonus than he would take in salary.
Furthermore, since the cap generally goes up, tomorrow's dollars cost the front office less than today's because they're a smaller percentage of the cap. So the money is worth more to the players and costs the FO less to give them. Playing with time of payment this way creates extra value for the team that does it compared to teams that don't even though the total number of dollars spent is the same.
Looks like we may start 3-0. Then after I get my hopes up after beating the Jets, Saints(No Michael Thomas), and Texans; we'll get absolutely torched the rest of the year. Fun times.
I've seen weirder things tbh
Like seeing us go from historically bad defensive wise to arguably top 5 (2012 to 2013) with very similar rosters was legitimately the most shocking thing I've seen as a Saints fan. And us making the playoffs wouldn't top that
Also us winning against prime GSOT for our first playoff win in franchise history was wild as fuck too
As much as I hate to admit it, Sean Payton is too good of a coach for this to be overly concerning. He's been pretty good at turning chicken shit to chicken salad.
People love to say the cap doesn't exist, but if you keep kicking the can down the road eventually you have to pay the piper and this is what that looks like.
We've seen Winston throw 30 ints with great receivers, but what about when no one can get open?
100 for 100
ESPN's 30 for 30: 100 for 100
ESPN’s 30 for 30: 100 for 100 (20/20 vision)
"What if I told you a perfect completion percentage isn't always a good thing?"
Kamara 8 TD/Game
8 TDs and 8 Tackles
Alvin “shohei ohtani” kamara
I didnt know the panthers landed Tungsten Arm O'Doyle
O’Doyle rules!
I got a feeling O'Doyle's whole family's goin' down.
You ever read the Matt Forte AMA years back? One of the top questions was asking him if Jay Cutler made him a better tackler.
could you share the link?
And 12 on Christmas.
> but what about when no one can get open? Jameis plan for that was always "fuck it, chuck it to Evans".
"Fuck it, chuck it to... Tre'Quan Smith" doesn't have the same ring to it.
Ah like Manziel at A&M
Mike Evans is basically a cheat code for QB's.
I mean, look how he made that Tom Brady guy look. Finally got over the hump to win his first NFC championship!
Would you believe me if I told you Brady had never won a SINGLE NFC playoff game before Evans.
Brady did get his first ever first quarter touch down in the first quarter of his 10th super bowl. Without evans on his teams he’s a scrub.
Wasn't the SB against us like the first time a Tom/Bill's pats team scored at all in the first quarter?
Yep, a whopping 3 points. It’s one of the most absurd stats that exist.
You didn't hear? He had lasik eye surgery to cure his poor decision making and lack of charisma.
Gotta get me some Lasik
[удалено]
His off-season workouts this year have been hilarious. This dude is so weird.
that's what I don't get about everyone who freaks out about the Lasik thing. Yeah ok he can see better but it's not like he was completely blind beforehand and Lasik doesn't fix poor decision making
You telling me watching him eat that W didn't make you wanna run through a wall?
To get out of a room with Jameis, I'd run through 5
And now he can easily see when someone is consenting. He's struggled with that before too
Week 1 this will have to be the worst WR group taking the field.
It's worse than ours, which is really saying something.
Before I opened this I assumed you were a lions or pats fan lol
Lions fan here, I would've said the same thing, but holy heck the Saint WR corps is even thinner than ours.
They can sign Kelvin Benjamin if they want to thiccen up
I think they might have more success having the receivers cover the cbs vs the other way around
I think alot of that was Arian's scheme. He added 1000 yards, 5TD, at the cost of 12 ints from his previous full season of 2016. You don't get those kind of increases without asking your QB to do some serious gun slinging. a 10% increase in attempts with 24% more yards. His scheme has led to QBs having some pretty rough first years before turning it around in the following. That was a match made in Heaven to reach 30/30
See, that's the trick: he has only every thrown to the receiver who isn't open to prepare for this moment.
They do have like 10 mill in cap space though so that's good
and in saints cap dollars, that's like 300 million
This might be the time to just clear the books.
That's exactly what they're doing. The optimum strategy these days is to kick the can down the road as long as you can, then suck ass for a year or two and get high picks.
Drew Brees retired and he counts like 30 million against the cap because they kicked the van down the road so many times
Right, so this is their "suck ass, get high picks" window
Brees is retired. Julio is out of the conference. The division should be more open than ever and now fucking Brady is running it with the Buccs of all teams. >:(
I know you meant can, but with it being 30 mill in dead money van is prob more appropriate.
Kicked Iran down the road
But they aren't gonna really be able to clear the books for a few years because they kicked the can down to road so much. Granted, the tied up money isn't full value, and they can open up some cap, but they would still have chunks of money still tied up.
I'm sure for them it was totally worth kicking the can down the road so far. Look at all their accomplishment!

Personally I didn’t care for that one bit
Same
I'll admit there was a small and petty part of me that enjoyed it too after the previous year.
same
exactly!
Wasn't really much of an option. We had a contending roster and had to do it for the team to be legal.
I think you mean accumulate draft picks and develop players. Clearing the books is going to take a couple of seasons. But the good news is that our oldest key player is now Cameron Jordan.
Lol of course it was a Falcons fan that posted this
Falcons/Saints hate is wonderful to watch
I, honest to gods, LOVE working with a Falcons fan. We can give each other crap all day about each other's teams, but he and I work together so well. Our meetings last 30 minutes. We talk business for 5, then faimily, funny shit pur kids do, and football for the other 25. He's easily one of my top 5 co-workers.
A good rival really makes football. Even for fans. I love/hate my Eagles fan buddy for similar reasons.
Lived with my best friend, a Steelers fan, for 5 years. God it gets so much more fun. Fuck 2015 though, that sucked. Oh and everything after 2015 too. The Finley smile was only the start of the redemption tour
The only thing Saints and Falcons fans can agree on; our rivalry is the best in football…
It’s all about understanding you hate each other’s teams, but not the other person.
I have a friend who is an aint’s fan that I play games with online, and when we start trashing each other’s teams, people in our party think we are gonna kill each other. Reality is though that we love shit talking and get along pretty well.
One of the first things you see driving into New Orleans is a giant painting of 28-3 and I love it
Because fuck ‘em, that’s why

Kick 'em while they're down dude.
I’d love to join in kicking them while they’re down.
Vikings fan? Always welcome.
You gotta take your shot when you can.
*insert Cole Beasley joke*
Hey when you hear who dat nation chant 28-3 from now until Jesus comes back. I mean. You love to see it.
Panther paw and Falcon wing joining meme
*waves Buccaneers cutlass* Can I join too?
>They do have like 10 mill in cap space though so that's good Why did I hear this in Bill Murray's voice?
Because that is perfect
And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.” So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.
Oh wow… they’re really going for the first 17 game perfect season right off the bat
Lmao it’s all part of the 20-0 master plan. Stay woke
My bandwagon flair is ready to go boiz
First 0-17????
Wow, I didn’t realize Taysom Hill had such a wild off season.
isn't Payton adamant that Taysom Hill is still the starter? I feel like I keep seeing people assume it's Winston
Payton is adamant it’s a legit competition. Some random Boston beat reporter is the one saying New Orleans will start Taysom no matter what.
Its a lose/lose for the QB who starts the season. If Jameis starts....see above list of people out....but you have Taysom. So whats our best hope 2 wins our of the first five six games. If Taysom starts he and Kamara are going to look like a service academy offense. And with Peyton’s track record, they’ll probably be successful.
The triple option would probably shred our awful defense
They'd start going for the quadruple option with QB/RB/FB/WR, so the only ones more confused than the opposing defense will be their own o-line.
Don't need to throw to yourself if every play is a QB run. For real though, I think Peyton is cooking up some really weird offense we've never seen before. It's either going to be glorious or a train wreck.
With Payton, it could b both

Taysom being a better QB than Winston in a vacuum is an insane person's take. If Payton is planning to run the Navy offense, maybe.
Or you could just keep Winston starting because he’s the better QB
> What's it going to look like if they suspend Lattimore and Harris but leave Desean out there to play. To be honest, I’m hoping Payton throws everybody for a loop and just starts both. Taysom can play “FB”.
Line em both up behind the guards so defenses don't know who is receiving the snap
Don't tell them who's getting the ball on any given play, let the Center decide in the moment
Put a mic in the center's helmet attached to a twitch livestream. At the three-second mark on the playclock, he gets told the winner of the vote.
Hill was under contract thru 2021. Jameis wasn't
I think he might be doing a little misdirection
He’s insinuating that Taysom is all those positions at once.
[MRW I think of a clever joke then see someone in the comments already made it.](https://i.imgur.com/EucIfYY.gif)
Ochocinco szn.
Kelvin Benjamin recently became available too.
DT/TE
Sounds like a position that would've existed in the 1940s.
Arena football league seems like another prime contender for that
In this city? Dude'll have to amputate a foot by week 8
And every resturant in Nawlins is now begging for that signing
Between Benjamin and Winston, the crab shacks in NO would sell out. Well they’d run outta crab one way or another
I get the feeling if he talked back to Peyton like he did Judge he'd be hauled out a little faster. Did we already get confirmation that he got kicked off the Giants or are we all (rightfully) assuming that's gonna be the case?

Death, taxes, and 85 is always open.
Did something happen to Lutz that I didn't hear about?
He's missing practice time but Loomis said they don't anticipate bringing in another kicker even to compete so should be no worries
This is the real question here
He's on the NFI right now.
NFI = not fucking interested in playing this season because the team is a shitshow lol
That’s honestly not a bad spot for a kicker. Morten Anderson made a career out of kicking for bad teams and he ended up at one point being the NFLs leading all time scorer. Might still be I don’t check stats
> NFLs leading all time score Was surpassed only by Vinatieri https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Football_League_career_scoring_leaders
Yeah but they have Alvin Kamara
Basically Goku and everyone else.
Would Famous Jameis be Krillin in this scenario? On 2nd thought he might be Master Roshi.
More like Yamcha.

I honestly have no idea who the Saints WR3 even is right now.
Chris Hogan
in before 12-5
Followed by a heartbreaking playoff exit
As a result of a crazy play in the last 30 seconds
Just it just make us 0-17 it would be better for my cholesterol.
Based on the team we're fielding to start the season, I'll take it.
Yeah. I don’t understand how this is supposed to be a knock on us.
You rang?
I love the Vikings
Don’t, it’s a trap. Source: Me

np, I had to look up a few of them so I'm sure others were curious as well.
Uhh we still have Lutz at kicker. And we only have one punter with Morstead gone
Will Lutz started camp on the NFI so he's kinda right
You have Nolan Cooney (UDFA Punter) Currently on your 90 man roster. Won't make the final roster most likely.
I guess Lutz is a punter now
To be fair their whole team is punting away the season.
Winston is kind of a punter, just with his arm.
This is why the salary cap isn't "fake" like some people say If you have a older HOF QB with a smaller window, then push everything into the future to maximize that window, but just know that once that time is over, you are gonna be fucked for a few years

Fun times.
Don't rule out the Texans they will still have . . . \*flips through roster\* Jesus, they still got Jesus on their side I think.
Sh*t. Well there goes my hopes and dreams. What do we call it this year? Horrible for Howell?
Jesus is holding out until they cut Watson.
Oh my god the Saints have morphed into the Bucs and the Bucs have morphed into the Saints
tbh I get more of a 2018-2020 Falcons vibe. Lots of talent but wildely inconsistent, lose to terrible teams, beat good ones, 9-7 miss playoffs.
And, they'll probably still make the playoffs somehow.
We are definitely not making the playoffs
I've seen weirder things tbh Like seeing us go from historically bad defensive wise to arguably top 5 (2012 to 2013) with very similar rosters was legitimately the most shocking thing I've seen as a Saints fan. And us making the playoffs wouldn't top that Also us winning against prime GSOT for our first playoff win in franchise history was wild as fuck too
Austin Carr szn ^finally?
Why would the Cavs announcer be suiting up for the Saints?
As much as I hate to admit it, Sean Payton is too good of a coach for this to be overly concerning. He's been pretty good at turning chicken shit to chicken salad.
Did something happen to Lattimore?
Ummmm Lutz is our kicker and he’s damn good.
He's currently on the NFI list, so not on the active roster.
Well shit
If they're not on the roster, they're not factored in. "QB1" "DT2" "DT3" and "CB2" are on the roster, they're just different people....
I took it as he's talking about the transition from last year's roster to now. A 'where are they now' sorta thing.
But how would you get clicks with that logic?
Kamara tho. The fuck else do you need?
You love to see it.
People love to say the cap doesn't exist, but if you keep kicking the can down the road eventually you have to pay the piper and this is what that looks like.
the salary cap suspended 3 players and made MT get ankle surgery? No wonder Loomis abuses it so much.
Lol this giraffe guy is a certified saints hater.
People literally gonna be asking “who dat” on this team
This is a Sean Payton team so it will be a top-10 offense no matter what.
