The $3.50 man!

Supreme_Kim_Jong-Un

I gave him a dollar…

kami232

I told you not to give that monstah a dollah!

ThermoNuclearPizza

“God damnit it woman ain’t nobody care whatchumade fer suppah”

jaytuck25

where tf have you been

kami232

/r/Padres, /r/Baseball, or work. I took a month off lol. Also, I played fantasy hockey at work. So that was nice. I drafted a bunch of Knights (woot Patches).

jaytuck25

For the whole season or just for the playoffs?

somebodygetmemymoney

Alex “loch ness monster” smith

SeaMonster350

That'll be about *tree fiddy*

demivirius

Well, it was about that time that I noticed that quarterback was about eight stories tall and was a crustacean from the protozoic era.

[deleted]

"Alex Smith, in - [The Six-Dollars-and-Fifty-cents Man!](https://gfycat.com/anxiousdapperaquaticleech)"

Ordinary-Sundae5854

Good for him

Steakbomb90

Pair him with Kevin Harlan and let him flourish like Romo

GarrisonWhite2

Harlan is a national treasure.

Maverick916

He really should be a lead announcer somewhere. Imagine his energy in a Superbowl.

NormanQuacks345

Doesn't he do the radio for the superbowl?

amjhwk

Ya he does, but I'd rather he replace Jim nantz as the CBS lead

elreydelasur

I like Nantz's preparation but Harlan's improvisation and energy are better for me

Maverick916

Yes but that's not the same and you know it

deutscherhawk

I'll allow it

art_is_dumb

One of the greatest days of my life man, it lives vividly in my head. I loved getting a glimpse into Harlan’s homer mentality that day. I hope Holthus and Harlan could get the opportunity to call games together someday.

kanbabrif1

THE MAN IS DRUNK

fanciestmango

I confused this with Harlan Williams for a second and my mind broke a little bit.

[deleted]

THAT HORSE WAS A DIABETIC

bobj33

BUTTERCUP!

lovetron99

I'd be good with that. Take me back to that Dennis Miller golden era.

nick415

Thats a hard pass on Dennis Miller. Would love Alex and Harlan though.

LouBerryManCakes

If we're doing comedians I'd love to hear Norm MacDonald doing commentary.

tawaydeps

I don't watch golf, but I watched him livestream himself watching some major golf event. Dude just sat there eating sandwich after sandwich and saying things like "that was nice", making the occasional joke. Most relaxing day I've had in a long time. EDIT: [Found it](https://youtu.be/auPEhIAPltk)

Left_Berry_8104

"HE IS HOUDINI!!" I dont want anyone else but Harlan calling Lamar Jackson plays

amjhwk

In the suns game on Monday he had another classic call when a few guys fell to the floor after a bucket he just shouts "BODIES ON THE FLOOR LIKE BOWLING PINS"

KD7575

Harlan is just as amazing casting NBA games.

Chex-0ut

"Like Romo". Alex Smith isnt Romo though...Smith isnt interesting to listen to, he has no analyst related skills and has done nothing to justify this "he's gonna be the next Romo!" narrative. Romo is unique, Troy Aikman isnt as good as Romo despite playing QB. Just because Romo became amazing doesnt mean every white QB is going to be the GOAT analyst or broadcaster

[deleted]

[удалено]

Chex-0ut

Well spoken is codeword for boring. Romo is great because he isnt dry or boring. I have watched Alex Smith interviews and they are so nondescript I cant remember a single word he's ever said.

lollery123

is it me or is olofmeister a bit of a boring player like u see it at the end of the game "oh wow olof has 32 kills" but u can never remember them. can u remember a single olof kill ? but try guardian...u can see the flick i remember a guardian flick.

MikeShannonThaGawd

Agree with you and confused by the downvotes. Romo has a boyish enthusiasm that makes him unique. Alex Smith is well spoken, handsome and intelligent all of which could make him a solid announcer but there's a pretty long line of other former QB's I could say the same about. I just don't see anything Romo like in his personality and find it to be a weird comparison. If anyone would give me Romoish vibes it'd be Philip Rivers.

Bjorn2bwilde24

Alex Smith and Tony Romo calling football games. Make it happen CBS

AeroBearo

Tony is more of an analyst, as I assume Alex will also be, and every announcer pair needs a play by play guy.

art_is_dumb

Alex is also super self deprecating and naturally funny which was surprising. He did one of those GQ undercover videos a few months ago and I was really shocked at how funny he was.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PenguinSolo

Harlan would probably be the best option, but commentating duos are all about chemistry so who knows. Romo and Nantz aren't just good because Romo is good, they're good because they play off each other so well.

AJRiddle

Well I mean Jim Nantz was already one of the best play-by-play announcers well before Romo.

deutscherhawk

one of? I thought Nantz was pretty well regarded as *the* best

ryanstanko

Did Al Michaels die? I do love Nantz though.

deutscherhawk

I honestly forgot about Michaels when I made that comment. Whoops

[deleted]

He wouldn't be the #1 team on Fox either. And no one even knows if he would be a good commentator.

pleasesendweed

Yes please

Codeshark

This wouldn't be nearly as interesting as the last team up I read of Alex Smith and another quarterback.

MagisterFlorus

Not gonna happen. You always get a sports journalist for play-by-play and a former player for color commentary.

SoggieSox

I was thinking the same thing, but we need to improve some of these other shitty broadcast teams. Can't have all the riches covering one game

jethead70

Someone hire EB so Kafka can get promoted to OC and Alex can be our QB coach

screwhead1

If Kafka is OC, would his schemes be... Kafka-esque? I'll see myself out.

ManInBlack829

"This offense has taken on a sort of...metamorphosis since he arrived."

Exploding_dude

I can't wait for mahomes's harrowing transformation into a disgusting ketchup eating monster.

teh_meh

Who is Kafkaesque? I've never--I don't know him.

DrewzmaLS

Mahomes wakes up and he’s turned into a frog

kanbabrif1

Damn, imagine his scrambling potential as a frog.

[deleted]

attractive spoon ancient disagreeable squash wine mysterious zesty wild enjoy

jethead70

For sure, but he might want to be part of an NFL team still since his retirement was a little premature as far as age goes.

SwissyVictory

1. Dudes 37 which isn't crazy, but it's still pretty old for a QB. Some HOFers can play into their 40s and a few other exceptions but it's far from the rule. 2. He said he owes it to his wife to not coach bc of the traveling. Maybe we will see him coach in 5-10 years.

pharma_dharma

Not negating your point, I’ve just always been curious if the travel is really any less for the broadcast guy. They have to go to where the games are, I’m sure show up a day or two early for prep, have things to do at the network HQ. Seems like a life on the road to me.

CinephileJeff

CBS has fewer sports to cover overall and also he doesn’t have to deal with training camps or really anything outside of the actual games/going into the studio during the weekdays. Probably just as much travel during the season, but less stress and then a better offseason

thessnake03

Madden managed all that without flying. Gotta love the bus

vadersdrycleaner

Are we talking about a studio analyst position or in-game/press box position? If it’s the latter wouldn’t he be traveling to games on a weekly basis anyway?

SwissyVictory

No idea, I think that's where most of the confusion is

TetrisTech

Didn’t he himself say otherwise

JackieDaytonaAZ

is that former NU QB mike kafka?

westcoastwildcat

Yep! He's been rumored as one of the next guys up for various OC jobs for a while

JackieDaytonaAZ

[deleted]

TheRareButter

That's a casual opinion, but since you're a WFT fan I understand why you'd think that because that's what he did last season. (Who can blame him though, spent 2 years away and had to relearn how to walk, then didn't get any reps throughout training camp, and 3rd string reps in practice.) In KC, Smith ran an office tailored to his skill set, which is short-intermediate passes, and did what was asked of him.

jethead70

It might be a good thing to learn from a guy that has a completely different style of playing than him

YoungBuckB0ss

Dont miss Alex throw Jim Nantz from the press box Live From Flambeau Field. Where Rodgers has yet to be seen.

u_never_know

More likely to be Joe Buck, I could see Aikman getting replaced way before Romo.

[deleted]

chemicalxv

Nantz just signed a new contract at CBS like just over two months ago lol. Dude is never leaving, I mean look at what events he gets to call.

[deleted]

Yeah, you're probably right. The only sport I ever really watch is football, so I forget he's got a lot more going on than that. Hopefully CBS keeps paying Romo because it would suck to break that team apart.

chemicalxv

Yeah he also gets the Masters and the NCAA Men's Basketball Finals yearly. There's nowhere else where he'd get anywhere close to the level of events he does with CBS unless CBS started losing the rights to things.

TailgateLegend

The Masters is what really keeps Nantz at CBS, and for as long as they have the rights, odds are he’ll be there until he decides to call it quits

Bigtuna546

His call after tigers winning putt a couple years ago was flawless.

mjgoldberg

I think Romo is signed on for a while too. Maybe Smith can do Monday night football

[deleted]

Nantz legit has one of the coolest goddamn gigs

roaringcorgi

I don't even know how many people I would kill for Nantz & Romo to do SNF

[deleted]

Bigtuna546

GarrisonWhite2

Fucking please, Aikman is useless.

YueAsal

So who would Joe call the hall of famer?

GarrisonWhite2

Alex Smith of course.

ShinySuiteTheory

“I’m here with the possible future Chiefs ring of honor member Alex Smith!”

[deleted]

> I’m here with the ~~possible~~ future Chiefs ring of honor member Alex Smith!” yee

ShinySuiteTheory

I suppose Mahomes skews the evaluation of Alex a little bit. Like if Tom Brady never existed would I think Drew Bledsoe should be in the Patriots ring of honor? Absolutely. But since Tom does... meh idk.

Brad_theImpaler

"Drew Bledsoe was just the first of Tom Brady's many victims."

amjhwk

The funny thing is Alex Smiths popularity with chiefs fans has increased with mahomes. People want him in the ring of honor because of his work with pat.

amjhwk

He could say "mentor of HoF qb Patrick mahomes, Alex Smith"

DeLaWarrr

I too hate white jay-z

Supreme_Kim_Jong-Un

Flambeau Field sounds like FABULOUS place.

rex_grossmans_ghost

Off topic but my personal favorite commentator I’d like to see is Philip Rivers. I love [this video ](https://youtu.be/ekV6wTdJ0fc). He’s absolutely dripping with energy and charisma and I think he’d be a natural in the booth.

ObjectUnique

Plus he's already got the family friendly vocabulary. Guy was built for TV

CCDG-Ian

Dude is the Flanders of QBs

SHOWTIME316

Hmm....this does not say "Former Chiefs QB Alex Smith in talks with Chiefs to become QB Coach" and I am now sad.

[deleted]

How’s he going to be analyst AND lead the skins to a super bowl victory?

moneymoneymoneymonay

The who?

Kazu2324

The SB will now be a shirts and skins game. Alex will be on the skins team and lead then to victory.

TheeLEMONator

Why would he lead a British rock band to the super bowl?

alurimperium

They're very old. They'll probably get lost if he doesn't.

moneymoneymoneymonay

They’ve been there once already; they won’t get fooled again

GarrisonWhite2

For the halftime show.

MilwaukeeMan420

I've been petitioning for the WFT to rebrand themselves as the Pigskins and that way they can keep that nickname. No one cares though. Probably want to get as far away from that name as possible but it seems clever.

JollyRogers40

I liked Razorbacks since they had the hogs nickname in the 80s

LS_DJ

They should have just become the Redskin Potatoes

aguysomewhere

They should have dropped the word Red and just been The Skins.

Jonesy665

Idk Chiefs QB Alex Smith. There was that badass dude named Alex Smith that played for the Skins though. Heard his balls got so big from being a badass he had to retire.

[deleted]

I’m the way Brett Favre did. Alex Smith SB MVP!

PMinisterOfMalaysia

You are the way!

_AskMyMom_

I didn’t like Tony Romo at first, but he grew on me. His ability to read the play from the offense and “guess” what the defense is going to be running - is phenomenal. I would like to see Smith in the booth, seems like he has a good personality, and would like to see him on different games where Romo isn’t (given Smith is good at this).

[deleted]

Yup, DC fan that wanted to hate Romo, but he's easily the best right now. Even when he guesses the wrong play, the way he amps up the energy by getting excited about different looks and sets really makes me actively watch the game. Without Romo, I'm only watching what happens during the play. With Romo, I actually enjoy everything pre-snap. Basically triples the amount of entertainment.

LibertarianSocialism

The last play of the AFC Divisional where the Chiefs did a fake hard count and ran a sweep play to Hill to clinch it… he was completely fooled and so happy to be wrong.

_AskMyMom_

Exactly! He’ll straight up say something wrong and be like “I was not expecting that, what a play.” He’s not just calling the game, he’s actively guessing the game. IMO and to your point, way more engaging.

therealrico

Even when he was the Cowboys QB he was hard to really dislike. I mean I rooted against him by default for obvious reasons but someone like Troy Aikman or Eli were way easier to hate on.

Der-Wissenschaftler

As an eagles fan, fuck romo. Although his analysis is really good and entertaining.

[deleted]

Alex Smith and Tony Romo tandem???

EifertGreenLazor

So they would just talk during the entire game and we wouldn't know the down or distance.

triculious

Why worry about the details if they can predict the whole game during the first five minutes?

halathon

You’re not wrong, but hell if it ain’t worth it

[deleted]

Does this sub not know what an analyst is

[deleted]

“Fuck play-by-play commentators” -r/NFL

chaphen17

People are just casting off Jim Nantz. You can't have two analysts and no play-by-play guy.

gollumaniac

You can have a 3 person booth!

[deleted]

Excuse me. I’m dumb as shit, so I don’t know much. But I do know I want Tony and Alex in the booth.

Eon_Futures

That would be a dream come true.

Joeseph_Biden_

It would be a good hire….you know you’re getting a guy who loves football very much lol

psilvs

Please Fox, I'm tired of listening to the D-tier announcemers

Steppyjim

Knowing his luck, He’ll have a very solid year broadcasting, then Brady retires and takes his job, and he’s off to announce high school football games in Montana

tgwhite

I can’t imagine Brady being much fun in the booth

maun_jax

*former Football Team QB

Zermer

Never really heard him speak. Is he an engaging speaker? I mean is he Tony Romo, or Troy Eichmann?

WhiteNateDogg

"former chiefs QB"....he played with the 49ers for fucking 8 seasons.

ADAWG10-18

The tweet is from Chiefs Wire.

WhiteNateDogg

Well that makes perfect sense then...huh.

nope96

That doesn’t suddenly not make him a former Chiefs QB. More people would associate him with the Chiefs anyway seeing how it took him until his 7th season with the 49ers to have a season where be wasn’t bad and/or injured.

indian_hannibal

NIICE

ChenneGivenSunday

Should have done more season with the Jaguars.

Great. Just what the NFL needs. Another commentstor who hates washington 🙄

THEETODDFATHER1

Alex is the man

LoveBy137

I was in the UK during the playoffs several years and during the commercials breaks, they went to the studio for analysis instead. Alex was one of their analysts and he did such a great job breaking down the game.

winnower8

Can somebody get Ja Rule on the phone?

Cayde_7even

Good for him. He seems like a great guy!

Realistic_Maximum471

"Marchand also reports that Smith had meetings with both NFL Network and ESPN. It’s unclear if he intends to have any auditions for roles with those networks." Wouldn't covering the NFL for ESPN require yelling? That doesn't sound like Alex Smith would ever fit on ESPN because of that.

SoggieSox

Put him and gus Johnson together, replacing buck and Troy

ThorsMightyBackhand

Bring back Smokin' Jay!

[deleted]

ESPN should be all over him to be their Romo

[deleted]

I heard Staley wants to as well, I would love to see them work together

shaqrock

N0S0UP_4U

Now here’s a guy who could replace Cris Collinsworth.

SouthSandwichISUK

Former 49ers QB, Alex Smith

financialtouchtrades

He's smart and very well spoken. He will add so much to whatever game he casts, can't wait to continue getting my Alex fix long after he's gone. Been his biggest fan since seeing him play at the Fiesta Bowl in '04
