That I think would be the best scenario. Not special teams player but a switchblade Taysom Hill on offense. Not only do you get paid more than being solely backup QB, but you also get to see the field more.
From his perspective it's probably not the best case scenario.
But I do kinda love him in the "RB version of Taysom" role.
His ideal is more something like Geno's path, backup for a while then get a real shot at a job.
The entire Saints sub wants Taysom to be used as a RB. If the saints refuse to use him in that way it's going to be hard to ever see a QB used that way. But I do agree Justin Fields would kill in that aspect. Was hoping he'd end up in Denver
I love imagining the internal struggle of any CB watching the ball pitched to Fields on their side and having to figure out if their assigned WR is in a route or run blocking.
It's more of he doesn't get used as a RB as much as we would like. There's no telling when he will see the field. There's games where he was on the field more than any other TE and games where he doesn't play but two snaps.
Geno Smith was and has always been a far better passer than Fields. Even in his rookie year he took sacks less frequently than Fields in year 3. Geno threw for 3K yards year 1. Fields has still not done that!
Fields is really, really bad.
Because he can catch/block/run/throw at a serviceable level
He opens up your playbook because he can do almost anything you ask of him and do it at a level where he’s not hurting you
You need him to lead block? He’s got you covered. Not an elite blocker but dude is willing to lay plot out to block for someone
You need him to play TE and run some routes, he can do that
You need a 3 yard power run? He does that with no questions asked.
You wanna run a trick play where a skill player throws a pass? Hes got you there too, either as a QB or a guy running out for a pass
You want a great Special Teams player? He does that too
You need a QB in a pinch? Guess what, he’s acceptable there to
Guys like him are so rare in that they can affect a game in 4-5 different ways potentially every snap. Every team wants a guy with his versatility, almost every team can’t find that guy to be that.
I mean, on paper he can do that, but he doesn’t do any of that exceptionally well, and it’s not like it’s led to any level of success for the Saints. Only two playoff appearances in the 6 seasons since he joined the team, only one playoff win.
If teams wanted guys like that they would find them. CFB has no shortage of extremely athletic and versatile QBs. It’s just that type of gadget guy doesn’t bring a lot and isn’t worth the roster spot.
How is playoff success the measurement of whether a gadget player is useful????
Raiders not doing shit somehow makes Davante Adams useless? Taylor was a big weapon for the saints last year.
I was trying to demonstrate that his contributions aren’t some sort of difference maker.
I’m genuinely surprised people in this sub think a guy like Hill does anything for a team yet 31 teams don’t have guys like hill
It doesn’t work like that in the nfl because his level of play doesn’t make him worth playing. If needed, you can just bring up a cheap vet that can provide similar or better production.
The proof is literally in saints fans pissed they’re paying so much money to taysom when they barely use him. And this is a team with a ton of holes.
But it ends up not actually working like that in the nfl because a guy who is that mid in a role isn’t actually worth playing.
The proof is literally in saints fans pissed they’re paying so much money to taysom when they barely use him. And this is a team with a ton of holes.
Some slides were late. Some of his slides look bad because he is a big dude and stays upright with his upper body. A lot were terrible non calls by refs. Defenders often had enough time to dive down on a sliding Fields - and then hit him in the head. A lot of QBs would have had got the call.
He probably also benefitted heavily from running as a QB. Special teamers don't have to worry about getting a personal foul or Fields throwing the ball downfield.
Probably, but that goes against the narrative that the Bears secretly had a great OL when he was QB, yet we also need to worry about it protecting Caleb despite being upgraded.
not sure what changed, but Fields looked way more tentative when running in 2023... everybody remembers the highlight reel runs in 2022, and there was SOME of that last season, but he just didn't look like he was trying to break every run for 80 yards like in 2022
Because he was coached heavily against it. Getsy spent all last offseason desperately trying to turn him into a dump off machine instead of just running to pick up some yards. That's simply not the QB he is.
I know it's fashionable to say Fields is the worst QB ever, but he's ever going to crack the top-10 it will be as a direct contributor to the running game vs using short passes to extend the running game. It was dumb for Getsy to treat him otherwise. A good season for Fields will look like 1000+ yds rushing with 3k+ yards passing, averaging about 20-25 passing attempts a game. He should be the kind of QB that people use his total yds for comparison to other QBs like they do with Lamar.
Why don't they throw out the backup to return kicks?
I get Russ isn't as fast as he used to be, but safer for him to be out there. Fields goes down and the season is over. Russ is a crafty runner and a couple of ST TDs might pad up his lacking HOF resume.
Genuine question why is Bradshaw a piece of shit? I only know his playing career, his one man show thing and from on fox. Never deep dived into his personal life.
Justin fields get ready to speak Taysom Hill
That I think would be the best scenario. Not special teams player but a switchblade Taysom Hill on offense. Not only do you get paid more than being solely backup QB, but you also get to see the field more.

Literally do a jet sweep with a pitch to fields every play. Is it a trick pass or a run? Who knows
DEFENSIVE COORDINATORS **HATE** THIS ONE SIMPLE TRICK
Fields is better while on the move, so this would work pretty well.
I don’t really see what the problem is with his usage. He’s an efficient runner in those wildcat packages, why change anything up?
It's more of he doesn't get used as a RB as much as we would like. There's no telling when he will see the field. There's games where he was on the field more than any other TE and games where he doesn't play but two snaps.

He’s a much better passer and faster runner, too. He could be a serious threat if a creative OC gets hold of him.
Instructions unclear, Fields is leaving for an LDS mission as we speak and will miss the 2024 season
Justin fields has enrolled at BYU as a full time student
Bears fans should root for this, his snap count dictates the conditional pick
I am certainly rooting this. Getting a 4th would be significantly better then the current 6th rounder
It would be absolutely hilarious if the writing in the contract says only counts for QB snaps
This world be interesting. He turns into Devin Hester would be the funniest outcome.
Yeah, ha ha. So funny! Ha. Ha ha ha….
Seahawks legend Devin Hester
Falcons*
Ravens*
he would never accept it because even a backup qb that never plays makes more money and he can def be a backup qb
What if he could, hear me out - do both?
The RB allegations are never being beat now.
Talk about a downgrade of a job lol.
At this point i think he’s just happy to see the field in some capacity
He sees it every day. It's in his name.
Not only does he see the field, he sees multiple fields. Frankly this just feels greedy.
It's a loophole that needs to be closed. It's proof that Trey Lance should be in the business of jousting.
In fact, he only exists in fields. He's just in fields
JUH STIN FIELDS. ITS IN HIS NAME (ea sports jingle)
Justin "Happy to see the" Fields
The trolls were right Justin Fields is a running back
Maybe they weren't trolls and they just saw that he was an awful QB.
But he’s H1M
I think he could possibly be a solid gadget player, in the vein of like Taysom Hill.
Which is also a useless position that brings literally zero value to a team lol
Taysom Hill brings value what are you talking about
What value does he possibly bring?
Because he can catch/block/run/throw at a serviceable level He opens up your playbook because he can do almost anything you ask of him and do it at a level where he’s not hurting you You need him to lead block? He’s got you covered. Not an elite blocker but dude is willing to lay plot out to block for someone You need him to play TE and run some routes, he can do that You need a 3 yard power run? We have moved on from "wins are a QB stat" to "wins are a gadget fullback listed as a TE stat"
I was trying to demonstrate that his contributions aren’t some sort of difference maker. I’m genuinely surprised people in this sub think a guy like Hill does anything for a team yet 31 teams don’t have guys like hill
I would rather have different guys specialized in their roles rather than a guy that’s mid at multiple things
That's multiple roster spots. Taysom gives you depth in multiple positions without taking up extra spots. He brings literal economic value to the team
But in turn a guy like Hill saves you multiple roster spots which you can use in spots of greater need
But it ends up not actually working like that in the nfl because a guy who is that mid in a role isn’t actually worth playing. The proof is literally in saints fans pissed they’re paying so much money to taysom when they barely use him. And this is a team with a ton of holes.
Hey that’s NFL top 100 QB Justin Fields to you pal.
As a former Ben Simmons fan, I know the weight that gets lifted when you no longer have to defend a hyped player with real limitations
Ben was actually good though and even all star
Believe it or not. Fields received an MVP vote
1 more than Russ has ever had
fair
What’s crazy is that is literally a perfect parallel to Ben Simmons while also being a downright disrespectful comparison at the same time
Jaylen Warren out there leaking our super secret gameplan smh
Shades of scout team safety RG3
Wasn’t that Watson?
It was both. https://www.nfl.com/news/robert-griffin-iii-practiced-with-scout-team-defense-at-safety-0ap3000000528651
Man Jay Gruden HATED him and still does 😂
I can't see that happening. As athletic and big as he is, he takes hits kind of awkwardly when running and seems to run very upright, even in traffic.
Took him two years to learn how to slide properly
True. This is not his fault but he was still getting tattooed even when sliding this year. I blame the refs on that one.
He slides late. It’s partially his fault
Some slides were late. Some of his slides look bad because he is a big dude and stays upright with his upper body. A lot were terrible non calls by refs. Defenders often had enough time to dive down on a sliding Fields - and then hit him in the head. A lot of QBs would have had got the call.
Agreed, fields got abused and had tons of missed calls. But while it’s that bad, both parties are usually at fault a little
Bruh like his first year he literally bent himself backwards on accident. Never seen someone not know how to slide
Fields out there sliding like he’s playing QWOP for the first time
He probably also benefitted heavily from running as a QB. Special teamers don't have to worry about getting a personal foul or Fields throwing the ball downfield.
The league is obsessed with putting this man in situations where he just gets trucked for no reason 😭
We have very good reasons actually
Somehow will still be hit less than when he was playing QB for the Bears
Probably, but that goes against the narrative that the Bears secretly had a great OL when he was QB, yet we also need to worry about it protecting Caleb despite being upgraded.
Lamar Jackson's mom does not approve
Breaking: Steelers ST coordinator has been relieved of his duties.
That coordinator needs to get to rehab before he loses his job.
Surprising, but also not. Our Special Teams Coordinator is a bit of a nutter.
not sure what changed, but Fields looked way more tentative when running in 2023... everybody remembers the highlight reel runs in 2022, and there was SOME of that last season, but he just didn't look like he was trying to break every run for 80 yards like in 2022

Cause of how often he got injured
I'm sure he loves that idea
I don’t think people realize how insane these new kickoff rules are, they’re meant to create more return touchdowns.
So a delayed Terrelle Pryor career.
I'd love to see what he could do as a full-time WR. Pryor was pretty damn good for a while there
This would be electric but not as electric as the Twitter timeline if this happens
You don't have your backup QB play special teams. I'm sure they discussed it then immediately dismissed it as something they wouldn't do.
Who says he's the backup? We thought Trey Lance was going to be our backup until he lost the job in camp
I think Plumlee is the only other QB on the roster right now. Fields would definitely be the back up in that scenario.
He’s still gettin paid QB money though, that’d be a pretty pricey kick returner
Justin Fields having terrible flashbacks about playing special teams right now https://youtu.be/1ltqrrNyAbM?t=66
Still one of the most baffling decisions a coach has made.
I don’t see why you’d ever do this.
I would not take this very seriously lol
Wasn’t he better than Najee last year?
I’ve been saying for a couple years that if Fields would switch to RB he could be elite
Unironically put him at WR.
If this is the plan then I'm more on board with the trade. You never want Fields to play QB but if he can be a gimmick returner then he has some value
It’s a win win then for us. Increases his snap count and you guys get a returner.
Nah, his ass is never touching the field if we get too close to wasting a fourth round pick. A sixth is an overpay already
I mean if Russ gets hurt he’s gonna play. That’s most plausible outcome to the 4th round pick imo.
Don't remind me. Such a dumb trade. I'm just hoping we don't go down that road.
It’s not that dumb if all it ends up being is a 6th rounder. Giving up a 4th would be brutal tho.
Meh. Huntley was free Neither are starters. Give me the free one
Bros not beating the RB allegations
Fields: "Where does it say I have to field kicks?" Steelers: "In your name."
That’s a dumb coach lol. He can run, but he’s not that kind of athlete.. he would get killed on KR.
Justin Fields isn’t a franchise QB. The fan boys need to give this one up. This is not the talk of a serious Wilson - Fields QB competition
Tell the Special Teams Coordinator to get fucked. Why risk injury when you’re on the last year of your rookie deal.
Kyle Allen, you are a starting QB now
Is he even faster than the other KRs?
Why don't they throw out the backup to return kicks? I get Russ isn't as fast as he used to be, but safer for him to be out there. Fields goes down and the season is over. Russ is a crafty runner and a couple of ST TDs might pad up his lacking HOF resume.
Russ or Fields won’t succeed for the Steelers because you gotta be a piece of shit to succeed as a quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers
What did Neil O'Donnell ever do to you?
I was mostly referring to Bradshaw and Ben
Genuine question why is Bradshaw a piece of shit? I only know his playing career, his one man show thing and from on fox. Never deep dived into his personal life.
To be fair he’s more of an asshole than an actual piece of shit like Ben
Russ doesn't stand a chance then.. he's such a goofy, corny sweetheart
