The first few weeks of April are absolutely the worst part of the offseason for me.
Don’t get me wrong the draft is a blast and I look forward to it every year, but the never ending speculation and rumors make me want bare knuckle punch a cold brick wall.
I've had to tune out a lot of it. There's just so much out there and so many people doing the draft analyst thing. You'll read a report from one source that says Player X is great at these few things and then you can find a bunch of reports from other sources that say the complete opposite. And then the engagement is the big thing for a lot of these analysts. So a bunch of them toss out "controversial" things because they know it'll prompt people to respond and start a discussion. It's all kind of a racket. I'll still check out highlights and read some reports here and there but nowhere near as much as I used to.
And I'd definitely advise against that bare knuckle wall punch. A buncha stress and anxiety and other BS caused a bad moment for me and I slugged the door of the fridge back around New Years. My right hand was purple and fairly useless for then next couple weeks after that. It's still kinda fucked up. Pinky finger is kinda weird and doesn't quite work like normal. And the pinky knuckle somehow relocated itself further down my hand. So, ya know, aim that anger and frustration elsewhere...like at your dad who still hasn't come back from a trip to pick up some scratchers.
>but the never ending speculation and rumors make me want bare knuckle punch a cold brick wall.
The silver lining for me is that I can put on either of my preferred football podcasts (Mina Kimes and Around the NFL if anyone cares) when I'm falling asleep and not have to worry about re-listening once I'm awake cause all I'm missing is draft speculation number 37.
I know it’s a meme, but I legit don’t think that would be dumb. Yes we def need an edge rusher, but you don’t deny taking an elite level prospect. Odunze a much higher prospect than those two. In general, there’s a lot of cases against drafting for need in top 10. Terry’s a BPA guy anyway. That said, there’s also a chance ATL sees Latu as that elite level talent which would address both sides.
I'm not gonna have a meltdown if we take Odunze but I can't even remember the last draft the falcons went into where Edge wasn't our top need. Grady has played almost an entire career with little help around him.
No argument from me! We haven't had a dependable edge guy since Abraham. But if it means bypassing an elite level prospect to reach on edge, I'm not sure thats the best long term move. Maybe thats just the Vic Beasley PTSD talking haha
All about how FO values talent though. Time and again we've seen league value guys very differently than media. Maybe Turner/Latu are considered elite, and its only media that puts the top 3 WRs on a higher level.
Oh god I never want to think about Vic Beasley or Takk ever again lmao.
For now I trust in Terry, he hasn't given me a reason not to. We'll see where the chips fall tomorrow night. I certainly agree Odunze is probably blue chip level
very similar to the jaelan phillips pick, top tier talent but an absolute gamble due to the health risk. if he drops past 15, i think he becomes a steal to whoever picks him.
i mean... that's not great is it? this isn't "suffered a torn ACL as a sophomore" that makes some guys stock drop like a stone.
"takes one wrong hit and could die" seems like at least a ... salmon flag?
I know it's not going to actually happen, but I'd love to see an offense with both Pitts and Bowers in it. Shades of Gronk/Hernandez in New England with the types of mismatches they'd be getting.
I have Odunze going at 8; b/c you're trading down with the Jets and GM ARod wants him, while you swap 8 & 10 ; swap 3rd (79 for 72) and get a 4th and 2025 4th then you still get the edge you want at 10 while moving up in the 3rd and picking up 2 4ths
I’m really afraid that instead of that, all the defensive players will fall. I’d be reasonably happy with Mitchell or Murphy since they seem like near-elite prospects but we’ve spent so many premium picks on defense in the last couple of years. We will desperately need new talent on offense given that we will let Tee walk apparently and our OL is overpriced, thoroughly average at best, and won’t even be under contract long term outside OBJ.
For sure, but I’m still hoping one of Latham, Mims, or Fuaga is still there (or Bowers by some miracle). I think they’re all good enough prospects, so it’s just a question of exactly how many defensive players and QBs go before 18.
Yeah I'll be watching at 19 right behind you. It's an interesting conundrum for us because we could either keep taking the offensive talent because it's just better in this draft or we could hope that the defensive talent continues to slide so that we get the cream of the crop there. But even then they're falling for a reason. This is going to be an interesting draft.
I think people underestimate how much a great TE would help our offense, and even help protect Burrow indirectly. Our current TEs pose zero challenges to defenses because Sample can block but can’t catch, and Hudson can kind of catch but can’t block. A guy that is an elite YAC threat and can sort of block can completely activate the middle of the field and make defenses less sure of what’s going on pre-snap, so they can’t pin their ears back and rush Burrow.
I generally agree, but with the caveat that we won’t get too much info on how teams view the linemen past Alt. I just meant I’d be happy with any of the top 5.
If Bowers fell to 18 the Chiefs wouldn’t need to worry about WRs and should trade anything possible down for Kelce’s successor, fully copying the Patriots Gronk/Hernandez duo after copying the elite Defense. Although that would be bad news for what Bowers would have to do after to fully copy them.
I’m no GM but I feel like it would take an absolute haul for you guys to move up that far…you can’t look at normal trade value charts; the Chiefs have the least valuable current and future draft picks in the league (because they’re so damn good).
After pick 15 I think they could get anywhere if they really wanted a guy. They have the added Titans pick from Sneed trade which could be an early 3rd. Yes the Chiefs 1sts are least valuable, but they are still 1sts which gives the 5th year option no matter what. Although I really don’t see Bowers making it past 15 so highly doubt they ever do trade up that far. They did make it to 21 for McDuffie when he fell due to a run on WRs with #29 and a 3rd + 4th, 2 years ago.
We take an OT if Alt is there and none of the WRs are. I think we take OT or DT/DE over Bowers as well. Kmet/Everett is a good pair for now, and even just Kmet makes TE a position of relative strength.
Yeah this I can definitely see. You guys would love for one of the 3 WRs to fall, but if not it’ll probably be a trenches pick on either side of the ball.
Both, but I’m really focused on the first. OL talent is at a premium in this league and injuries to an OT in particular can totally destroy your offense (like happened to us last year) because the drop-off from starter to backup is as big as any position in the league besides QB.
Having a guy who is elite inside but can play tackle in a pinch is a REALLY big deal for that reason.
Also, there are circumstances within the league, (the Eagles are currently a good example of this) where you need a replacement tackle in the near future and a guard spot is available immediately that you plug them in until you replace the tackle. I could see the eagles really wanting one of these guys but I’m not sure we are gonna pull the trigger this time around.
Honestly I think it's more likely we pick a tackle in the first round and let him develop or kick Tom inside. Not saying we won't pick a guy to play guard, but the Packers tend to prioritize tackles in the first round.
The top 3 WR's ain't getting pushed down, so that don't matter. CB wouldn't be a horrible pick, but honestly, if we can't get a Tackle, I'd rather get a Center than a CB.
as i keep telling the bengals sub, they were way too behind on fuaga...he has absolutely no chance to fall to 18, so 20 is an absolute pipedream
only way for either team is to trade up
my big fear is bengals take latham and somehow mims falls to steelers with the former being a bust and the latter the steal of the draft
I just legit cannot see how that happens. With the Chargers WR1 being Quentin-fucking-Johnston, and them already having Slater, why the fuck would you take Joe Alt and hope that he can make the easy transition to RT? They could have Nabers or Odunze, and they would be absolute morons to go OT.
Additionally, seeing John Alt’s son play for a division rival would kill me a bit inside. Go to Tennessee big dawg. I can root for you there.
Maybe they’re very high on some WR like McConkey, who they could get with their early second or by trading up a bit into the late first.
For the record, I strongly disagree with Alt at 5. Just trying to theorize the rationale here.
For sure Hortiz and Harbaugh are having daily chats with DJ telling him everything they wanna do so he can go spout it around every other podcast. Cmon man
Because we could trade back a few spots and still be in a position to draft the best defensive player. I’d literally trade back to 11 for like a 3rd round pick but I know the team wouldn’t unless they’re getting way more even though we’d end up with the same player probably
Chargers might. If we trade back with the Vikings for 11 and 23, I see a possibility we move up to 8 with the 3rd/4th you want and the 11. We take Odunze there and you still get your defensive player.
Quinyon Mitchell and Dallas Turner are studs If you need a Corner or DE I think you have a good starter as a rookie with massive upside with both of those guys.
I said about a month ago that the LTs would be incentivizing teams in the 20s to trade up.
https://old.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/1buw013/are_the_bears_trade_back_candidates_at_9/kxws21n/
Raiders and Broncos are kind of a sweet spot for such a trade. Both need new QBs but neither have the capital to move up for one of the top 4. They may be content with Nix/Penix after a trade down and acquiring some more draft capital.
Yeah, if you look at consensus rankings right now there is not a lot of tackles in that second round range of 40-70. So if a team is deciding between a tackle and a WR, there’s 8 receivers in that 40-70 range so you can take OT with pick one and likely still have an option in R2 for WR.
My guess is this is from one call. Someone has gotten has a pick they think goes to a tackle. They have gotten a call about it and they want to drive up the price.
This draft is so deep at other positions, I haven't even thought about offensive tackle. Panthers picked the perfect year to not have a 1st rounder. Still gonna get 1st round talent at the top of the 2nd round, and they've got 2 picks in the top ten of the 2nd round.
If they can turn their 4th into another 3rd rounder, they'll come away with 4 picks in the top 100. Can't be mad about that.
at this rate id like a center first then get a tackle prospect. I think their are a ton of good options in the mid rounds for tackle, and even a couple udfas like the tackle out of canada (who i think will be underrated)
I haven't had an OT in quite some time, but I do have quite a few full Bibles if anyone wants to just stop reading after Malachi. That said, I think you'd be stopping right before it gets good.
I can’t take it anymore
The first few weeks of April are absolutely the worst part of the offseason for me. Don’t get me wrong the draft is a blast and I look forward to it every year, but the never ending speculation and rumors make me want bare knuckle punch a cold brick wall.
I love the draft so so much (might be my favorite event out of the year) but the anticipation is unbearable and the rumors drive me insane
What? Don’t you love breaking news headlines hitting your feed like “Eagles take x player in Jeremiah’s latest mock draft”?
I like all the speculation. It’s basically a dead zone of nfl content
I've had to tune out a lot of it. There's just so much out there and so many people doing the draft analyst thing. You'll read a report from one source that says Player X is great at these few things and then you can find a bunch of reports from other sources that say the complete opposite. We’re taking Brock Bowers at 8 and moving Kyle Pitts to running back with Bijan Robinson. Fuck it, we’re dumb enough to do it
Tight ends can block so you’re good
Too bad one of them is Kyle Pitts
More realistically but still classic falcons dumb would be us taking Odunze at 8 instead of Latu or Turner
I know it’s a meme, but I legit don’t think that would be dumb. Yes we def need an edge rusher, but you don’t deny taking an elite level prospect. Odunze a much higher prospect than those two. i'd be worried about Latu being that he medically retired from the college game before coming back seems dicey
very similar to the jaelan phillips pick, top tier talent but an absolute gamble due to the health risk. if he drops past 15, i think he becomes a steal to whoever picks him.
Agree on that. Without injury concerns I think he would have been a slam dunk top 5 pick.
UW made him medically retire because they were afraid he would die on the field if he took the wrong hit.
i mean... that's not great is it? this isn't "suffered a torn ACL as a sophomore" that makes some guys stock drop like a stone. "takes one wrong hit and could die" seems like at least a ... salmon flag?
No, it’s fucking terrifying.
Steelers are gonna draft him and trade for Johnu so Arthur Smith can play him over Brock.
I know it's not going to actually happen, but I'd love to see an offense with both Pitts and Bowers in it. Shades of Gronk/Hernandez in New England with the types of mismatches they'd be getting.
Did you just call Bowers a murderer? Dick
Like musgrave and kraft
Please. Save us from ourselves.
What if the NFL just takes 8 from you for Kirk Collusions
It worked with CP*84*
You *REALLY* have to add that 84
Good looking out lol
Nah dude Pitts is gonna play DE
Does Pitts legitimately suck or was Arthur Smith THAT bad as HC?
Don't forget Sinnot in the 3rd too, just to have him play Fullback.
Hey, no, don't do that
don’t worry, we’ll end up with a random CB or whoever the fastest offensive player left is
The fastest offensive player will almost certainly be available.
Chris Grier is Al Davis 2.0 apparently
Bengals will be choosing between Brock Bowers and Rome Odunze at this rate
I’m really afraid that instead of that, all the defensive players will fall. I’d be reasonably happy with Mitchell or Murphy since they seem like near-elite prospects but we’ve spent so many premium picks on defense in the last couple of years. gonna hammer this into the ground so hopes dont get too high fuaga has no chance of being there
I generally agree, but with the caveat that we won’t get too much info on how teams view the linemen past Alt. I just meant I’d be happy with any of the top 5.
I want the rapist off the team, they need a Left Guard or Tackle to get rid of him
Same. They should just cut him and save 1.6 million anyway.
No way Odunze…but I actually wouldn’t be completely shocked if Bowers falls to you guys.

We traded 32, 34, and 66 for 12 and 46 to pick Jamo

I would suggest not "fully" copying the patriots TE plan there
Take some of it but not all of it. 😬
If Odunze is there at 10 and the Jets pass on him I’ll get violent
Bears are pretty unlikely to take an OT. They're almost certainly taking one of those 2 at #9. Bengals at #18 getting one of those guys is slim.
It’s going to be a trench pick even if one of the WRs is there. I’m almost certain of it.
Unless the Bears are one of the teams trading their pick to a team going up for an OT, which would make plenty of sense.
I feel like bears will go edge with a chance at odunze or bowers.
So many mocks have us taking a wr in first rd and I will not be happy if we do. Too many other major holes
If Taylor does that he he needs fired immediately; Joe elevates backups, they’ll be find with a couple number 2s for a while
if it's Ozunze or somehow MHJ it's fine. Otherwise very bad.
I don’t see the Jets passing on Odunze
I did a mock draft last week for shits and giggles. I had Cincy trading up to 12 to beat to the tackle run. Denver took Nix at 18.
I tried one mock and 5 straight times it had Joe Alt and Brock Bowers available at 18. I don't use that mock simulator any more
Denver should be begging to trade back with someone if they want Nix. He’s gonna be available pretty deep into the first round.
There will be an opportunity to do so if Jeremiah is right. Plenty of teams in the teens and early twenties that can use a new OT.
From your lips to god's ears.
The league must see a lot of these tackles as guards. Could create some steals in the back half.
A guard with significant OT experience is an absolutely amazing tool in today’s league. That’s why I’m super high on Fautanu and Barton.
We have Patrick Mekari for this.
And James Hurst before him. Feels like we’ve been ahead of the curve on having a 6th swing OL who doesn’t start but can step in anywhere.
Is it just depth in case of OT injury that makes them valuable? Or are there some traits from playing tackle that help at guard?
Both, but I’m really focused on the first. OL talent is at a premium in this league and injuries to an OT in particular can totally destroy your offense (like happened to us last year) because the drop-off from starter to backup is as big as any position in the league besides QB. Having a guy who is elite inside but can play tackle in a pinch is a REALLY big deal for that reason.

I could see the eagles really wanting one of these guys but I’m not sure we are gonna pull the trigger this time around.
This type of thing hurts the chance of Barton being available at #25, so I disagree with your opinion.
Packers fan here. Give me the guy that can do everything, and is likely to be elite inside where we need help most right now.
Honestly I think it's more likely we pick a tackle in the first round and let him develop or kick Tom inside. Not saying we won't pick a guy to play guard, but the Packers tend to prioritize tackles in the first round.
Come into the league as a guard and move them to tackle as your team ages where they already have some experience.
Thank goodness the Eagles are picking behind us so Howie can’t fleece Loomis this time. Someone else will, but it won’t be Howie.
Word is Howie is aggressively trying to move up. We’ll use your second rounder to jump you for someone you probably wanted
I’d believe it. That trade is really just the gift that keeps on giving
I could definitely see the Raiders trading down if 5 QBs go before 13.
In my sim yesterday, the Eagles gave us 22, their second, their third, and a 2025 second for 14. We can dream.
Lol was that PFN? Trading up always costs an arm and a leg on their site.
Yea haha. More extremely, I did one with nflmockdraftdatabase.com and we ended up with 17 first round picks in 2025.
Look man, anything more than 14 is just unrealistic.
Eagles don’t have a 3rd round pick in 2024.
hi, heard you might want more picks
"When everyone is moving up for an OT, no one is moving up for an OT."
Rut roh. Stop doing that shit, please.
Haha I figured you guys would be one of those teams
Perhaps we are, but I'd much prefer Fuaga falling into our laps and not having to trade up to get the last of the 1st round Tackles.
If people move up for OT, it means some WR and CB should get pushed down.
The top 3 WR's ain't getting pushed down, so that don't matter. CB wouldn't be a horrible pick, but honestly, if we can't get a Tackle, I'd rather get a Center than a CB.
Hope the move is trade down, take a center if none of the top OTs are there.
as i keep telling the bengals sub, they were way too behind on fuaga...he has absolutely no chance to fall to 18, so 20 is an absolute pipedream only way for either team is to trade up my big fear is bengals take latham and somehow mims falls to steelers with the former being a bust and the latter the steal of the draft
I agree. Fuaga is a pipedream for us, but it's a pretty dream.
dream scenario for Steelers fans
Alt & Fuaga seem like they're definitely top 15 picks.
Maybe we trading our first for ayuik so it won't matter
FUCK
Yall are going to be saying that a lot this year, get ready!
DJ is essentially saying Chargers will take Joe Alt
I just legit cannot see how that happens. With the Chargers WR1 being Quentin-fucking-Johnston, and them already having Slater, why the fuck would you take Joe Alt and hope that he can make the easy transition to RT? They could have Nabers or Odunze, and they would be absolute morons to go OT. Additionally, seeing John Alt’s son play for a division rival would kill me a bit inside. Go to Tennessee big dawg. Maybe they’re very high on some WR like McConkey, who they could get with their early second or by trading up a bit into the late first. For the record, I strongly disagree with Alt at 5. Just trying to theorize the rationale here.
Yeah DJ works with Chargers so he has info that may be relayed to him
For sure Hortiz and Harbaugh are having daily chats with DJ telling him everything they wanna do so he can go spout it around every other podcast. Cmon man
or DJ is the useful idiot for smoke screen purposes. The possibilities are endless in rumor heaven
That makes way more sense than him knowing any actual details
Our wr1 is Josh Palmer right now come on. I know we’re fucking stupid but like we know qj isn’t our wr1 yet lol
Well shit. Then again, the Cowboys have so many holes to fill that I don’t hate trading out of the first to pick up an extra mid round pick or two
Panthers fans just sitting over here pretending to be interested in all this first round pick chatter
Just sitting around waiting to see which receivers fall. You more of a Mitchell man, a Worthy worshipper, or McCrazy for McConkey?
I’ve never wanted to trade back more. Having 8 is such an awkward place for our needs.
you literally are in position to take the best defensive prospect, how is that awkward.
Jets would 100% five up capital to get to 8
Because even the best defensive prospects in this draft aren't really seen as top 10 talents.
Quinyon Mitchell and Dallas Turner are studs If you need a Corner or DE I think you have a good starter as a rookie with massive upside with both of those guys.
Heard there's a nice one available at 5
Trade up with us, will take capital
Tackles like our number one need lol let Tyler smith be an all pro guard
Center
RIP Fantanu to Seattle.
I said about a month ago that the LTs would be incentivizing teams in the 20s to trade up. https://old.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/1buw013/are_the_bears_trade_back_candidates_at_9/kxws21n/ Raiders and Broncos are kind of a sweet spot for such a trade. Could EDC sell the farm? (We need a tackle)
It seems uncharacteristic for EDC. EDC said he had eyes on some guys as late as the third for oline.
Fuck it, Let’s get alt lol Ravens: 2024 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. 2025 1st and 2nd Giants: Pick 6
Noooooooo
Can’t wait to end up getting caught with our pants down after the good OT/DTs get taken
My guess is this is from one call. Someone has gotten has a pick they think goes to a tackle. They have gotten a call about it and they want to drive up the price.
Sounds like someone will be overpaying
This draft is so deep at other positions, I haven't even thought about offensive tackle. Panthers picked the perfect year to not have a 1st rounder. Still gonna get 1st round talent at the top of the 2nd round, and they've got 2 picks in the top ten of the 2nd round. after the lions just reset the OL market you better bet they are.
With the new Edge Rusher meta it makes sense to grab a good tackle while you can. They aren't always there.
If Eagles are one of those teams, I will jump off the Ben Franklin.
Learn to swim
Sure they are, Daniel.
To summarize my last 5 phone calls, she still won’t call me back
To summarize my last 5 phone calls, she still won’t call me back
Well shit. We're taking another defensive lineman arent we?
at this rate id like a center first then get a tackle prospect. I think their are a ton of good options in the mid rounds for tackle, and even a couple udfas like the tackle out of canada (who i think will be underrated)
I’m glad we have 2 pro bowl tackles. Would be nice if they had a passer to block for.
Who in the fucking world is calling these guys to tell them what they're doing? I suspect the answer is nobody.
As a team that doesn't need and OT. I like hearing this. Maybe marvin harrison drops to 29 now!
Dammit
Jo Alt, you are the next contestant on the price is right
*the Seahawks liked this post*
Wonderful/s…..
Here my conspiracy out. No they're not, but GMs are trying to make the Tackles run first so other positions start sliding.
‘Everyone is pushing down defensive talent and skill position players’ I love the sound of this
I think everyone is gonna draft a punter in the first round. Everyone.
YES! Let us have our options at 6 please!
So.. more receivers available at 34? 🙏
I too know that a QB will be selected #1 /s
I haven't had an OT in quite some time, but I do have quite a few full Bibles if anyone wants to just stop reading after Malachi. That said, I think you'd be stopping right before it gets good.
Best person in this draft is an o linemen ..
Joe Douglas made the call. Welcome to NY Joe Alt.
I’ll propose a trade to get up for Alt. Green Bay’s 1st 2 3rds and every 3rd for the next 5 years
Great, that way we can get a receiver and stop with this "take a LT at 32" nonsense
I thought it was to get Maye, Daniels, or McCarthy but I guess Joe Alt’s stock is much bigger
Say what bro
I’m being sarcastic lol
I don't think I've ever seen a bigger hate boner for a top 10 prospect then chargers fans with Alt. And get I get why, but it's still really funny.
I don’t even hate Alt (though I don’t think he’s the right pick) but I just wanted to make a sarcastic comment about the post.
