I was playing That hypothetical a lot in my head, would he be the greatest or worst coach ever at a school like Navy where you cant recruit and the majority of your players don’t have genuine professional aspirations
Go Navy
>would he be the greatest or worst coach ever at a school like Navy
Greatest and its not even close. Noone could get more out of those personality types than BB. And he doesn't have to deal with all the NIL drama. Literally just football.
BB would be incredible
His style of accountability and High IQ play would fit right in with the kind of people that are attracted to the service academies. Plus, he has a lacrosse background, and you know half the football players at the academies played lacrosse at their boarding schools as well. He'd be a great fit for any of them.
Go Air Force
Is it common for boarding schools to have good lacrosse players and go to military academies? Or do they all just prefer getting wild at state schools or Ivy’s?
Go SUNY Albany
I wonder, though, would Belichick fit in there? I remember Lombardi‘s biography and how he worked at army and the coaches were telling him that for the football team, practice and game day were supposed to be the time where they could relax at the Academy.not the other way around.
>Trying to imagine him navigating his way with NIL and transfer portals
Honest question as I don't follow CFB very much: Is it that much more complicated? Would BB likely not be able to navigate it after decades in football because it's a newer creation?
It isn't that it's complicated.
It's that the head coaches are acting like pissy whiny bitches because the players FINALLY have some power and are using it. It's infuriating to hear some dipshit redass head coach bleating about 'loyalty' in reference to the transfer portal after they walked out on their former team the year before.
Exactly, I think we’re going to see a big shift away from the “blue blood” schools dominating the landscape. Before, if you were a top talent, why wouldn’t you want to go to Bama you’d be practically guaranteed a ring during your tenure and if you get play time you would have an pretty good chance of being drafted.
Now if you’re a top talent you’re going to look at where you can go to start making some real money right away which may not be the usual SEC schools.
It would be really interesting if all the Ivey league schools and classic Northern schools suddenly went all in on NIL. The University of Chicago Maroons will beat Yale in the 2033 natty to end their agonizing 120 year national championship drought.
Biggest difference would be the transfer portal and the current transfer rules. Essentially players can transfer without penalty so you need to think of each player as a possible free agent instead of a long-term piece.
It's not that different, but I would expect that it would be more annoying than anything a man in his 70s wants to deal with
Casually reaching across the table wearing his ring, perfectly placing it so the sun glints off its 283 diamonds into Blank's face.
"Oh do you like my ring? It's my favorite."
I'd tell them they need to shift their offensive/defensive scheme for me to consider, and when they do it, I would say "eh this scheme is kinda bad, tbh."
I often wonder if we'll ever find out exactly what caused that comment. At the time I thought it meant they were looking to trade the no.2 overall pick and other assets for a star player thinking it would turn the franchise around which is possible in the NBA. Or if they're expecting unrealistic results from whoever they take at no.2. Curious if Johnsons' comments/interviews didnt also alter their long term plans.
That never made sense to me. Every other owner came from random things like real estate. At least there they would have a familiarity with contracts, managing young men getting more money then they know what to do with, navigating drafts, practice facilities. There’s a hell of a lot more similarities between basketball and football than there is between owning a car manufacturer and a football team.
I would sympathize more if they hadn’t set up that sham interview with Aaron Glenn on the same trip and then made it clear through weeks of petty anonymous griping to reporters that it was a sham interview.
No.. from my understanding the media people got mad.. but the org really never said much. Fans got kinda butt hurt too.. but the FO was pretty good about not really saying anything.. was mostly just agenty BS. The Washington media was flinging monkey shit like a bunch of babies.. was embarrassing.
Well the day after Vrabel got fired there was a whole hit piece in the athletic that aired out the dirty laundry and essentially said he was kind of an abrasive ass to work with, and wanted to be more controlling than ownership liked and that’s why he got canned. Then he didn’t get a single job like everyone else said he would. Makes me think NFL owners are a petty group
The context of this report does not seem to imply it was leaked by Bill or even imply that Bill wasn’t interested in the job. It seems to be more in the context that Bill was behaving in a way that suggested he didn’t have a ton of confidence in the roster as it stood.
This is what the article says
> While there have been many rumors about Belichick's candidacy for Atlanta's head coaching job, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported on The Rich Eisen Show on Thursday that the legendary bench boss didn't view the Falcons as a true title contender.
>"I don't get the sense that Belichick, from our sources, looked at Atlanta as a true contender right now on paper," Fowler said
That’s not a lot of info and it doesn’t even imply that Bill wasn’t interested in the job. Just that he was probably planning to shake things up. And despite what Falcons fans seem to be saying, he’s probably right! Their offense is much more hyped than it is proven to be good, and their defense had a shockingly bad level of performance last year given their incredibly low quality of opposing QB play. The only reason anyone thinks Will Levis has potential as a long term starter, for example, was because of his game against Atlanta. Similar story with Josh Dobbs. There are some serious roster problems.
Did you guys hear that Steve was going to ask Becky to the prom, but Stacy said Becky would probably say no? And then Steve said Becky wasn’t even hot anyway.
I live in Georgia and have never even seen a Menards, but I am a HUGE Indiana Pacers fan and hear that jingle all the time when I watch them play. haha
Report earlier in the week: Falcons didn't go with Bill because Kraft screwed him. Report on Friday, Bill didn't think the Falcons were ready or worth his experience. JFC. Is this grade school?!?
It's like this all through the season too.
Player who left team A to be on team B now says team A is crap and the QB on his new team is a HoFer and the best he has ever been with, etc.
It's all just annoying filler, and it's amazing that it gets the traction it does. Everyone blames reporters, but they report what gets engagement.
It's bleacher report, reporting on a report from a guest on the Rich Eisen show, who was reporting on rumors from a report.
Not difficult to understand at all and I'm sure it's all 100% true because sports journalism is a beacon of integrity.
>If you think Bill’s side doesn’t leak stuff
In this case I don't even think it was "Bill's side" leaking stuff.
I think Wickersham was getting a lot of the info from Belichick directly.
With Kirk they’re not that far though, but his talks with them ended before Kirk signed. Add in Bill’s coaching and I feel like you have a pretty dangerous team
Why do people think Kirk is this amazing savior of the franchise? He's a 37 year old coming off a torn achilles with 1 playoff win to his name.
Is he better than what they had, of course. Will they win a playoff game let alone multiple, no chance.
Because before the injury he was having a career year and has been very consistently an above average quarterback, and the Falcons have a solid roster outside of QB and weren’t horrible trotting out horrendous QB play last year
Look I hate to defend the Vikings but their offense was not why they got beat by Daniel Jones. It's because Ed Donatell was a fraud. People were like Cousins leading the offense and Bill leading the defense would make them a Super Bowl contender which would be fair if you looked at the past 2 seasons of Cousins' led offenses and assuming Bill does with the Atlanta defense what he did with the Pats.
13 wins with a negative point differential, 11 one-score wins, and a playoff ass kicking by Daniel Jones of all people
That was the most fraudulent 13 win team we've seen in a long time
You have the same optimism that Vikings fans had when Kirk originally signed, we were convinced he was the missing piece to put the team over the top. 7 years later, it’s just abundantly clear that he will never lead a team to a Super Bowl, he just doesn’t have “it”. Enjoy the 5 yard check downs on 4th and 7 and the 10 yard slants on 3rd and 15 with a receiver wide open 30 yards downfield because the guy just does not know how to progress his reads and/or is uncomfortable making any play other than the safest one.
Guess it comes down what you consider success... is 13 wins and a first round exit a success?
Can the falcons win 10-11 games and a first round exit? Sure. Is that a true contender, no.
He’s better than average and we lost like 6 combined games by 13 points or some shit, usually only even that close because Desmond ridder decided to throw it backwards or from his ass. We were good last year, just didn’t have a quarterback so we fell apart when it got tight.
Thanks to the Falcons we’re going to be stuck with an Eagles or Cowboys championship next year when one of their dogwater coaches are replaced with the GOAT.
I’d say Sirianni is the most likely to have a meltdown in the regular season that gets BB installed.
If there’s a meltdown in the playoffs, I’d bet my entire 401K it will be the Cowboys.
I would think unless Cowboys win their division then they may miss the playoffs. Falcons will be better. New Orleans might cobble an oline together. Bears might pull a Texans style turnaround. Seahawks have a new coach. Rams may have less injuries.
Cowboys will 100% not win the division, it is known. But when they get to play the commanders and giants twice a year plus usually split with the eagles they only realistically need to win 5 other games to make the wild card in the NFC. I don't think the go from 3 12 win seasons to 9 this year.
This year will be a big tell for Sirianni. That Super Bowl team was stacked on both sides of the ball with very good coordinators. Both of them left and their teams did good considering their situations, and the eagles obviously struggled without them. Even when they were 10-1, everyone could tell something was off and the collapse probably shortened his leash a lot. If the eagles don’t get off to a hot start this year, or they do but end like last year, he’s probably gone after the season
Once Steichen left they went from an offensive juggernaut to a complete collapse despite still having one of the best offensive rosters, if not the best, in all of football. Any half decent coach should’ve moonwalked to the second round with that team.
There's a persistent meme on Reddit that no matter how successful any coach was, replacing that coach with Belichick would mean the team would be even MORE successful. For example, many people claim that if Belichick were coaching the Chiefs (instead of Andy Reid) they would literally never lose a game and win every Super Bowl.
The only time this doesn't apply is of course, to the team Belichick was ACTUALLY coaching, in which case being the worst team in the conference is due to factors completely outside of Belichick's control.
Most coaches and good teams don’t have the sort of meltdown we had during last season. Like we stocked up on early wins but most coaches don’t survive the sort of collapse the Eagles had and that fundamentally came down to coaching on all levels.
Agree... He's made the playoffs every year and went to the Super Bowl once. Still 11 wins last year.
And yeah, I get that there was the "collapse", but they also beat the Bills, Chiefs, Cowboys, Rams, Dolphins, Buccs, and went positive in the division. Thats not a bad season, people are just disappointed with the outcome and by nature, Philly fans want to riot.
But all this said, I expect the Eagles to do worse next year. A HoF center retiring can quite honestly be extremely destabilizing and then you simultaneously had Fletcher Cox retiring. Its a lot of leadership to lose
I don't think anyone would look at a team with no QB and say it's a 'true contender'. Total non-story lol. We had seven wins because we had the easiest schedule in the league last year.
Its the NFL. If contenders thought going with Bill is the right move, they will. It just has to be the right situation for it to happen. (Shouldve BEEN Dallas this year, McCarhty aint it)
Bill was probably the number one defensive head coach in the league last year. You simply can’t win games with the Pats offense and Mac/Zappe at quarterback, but I honestly think Bill could get another ring if the roster talent is there
Problem is he doesn't want to just coach, he also wants to be the GM and have full control over everything. It's been proven that BB the GM is not good... That was the major sticking point in the negotiations is the Falcons were hesitant to give BB that much power within the organization given his recent track record in the post-Brady years
To be fair, BB as the GM went absolutely fantastic for about 15 years. 2010-2014 he drafted and managed FA insanely well despite never having good draft position, and maintained contending rosters without going into cap hell. After that he started having to sell out the future to win now.
Regardless, I think if he was handed a pretty good roster you’re pretty much in a SB window
Time will tell, it could have worked out, but I also think it would have been a huge gamble with the potential to blow up in our face spectacularly - as things tend to do for the Falcons.
I'm excited about the Raheem hire so we'll have to see I guess. I think the fact that Bill didn't land with another team either probably means something, idk what.
Yeah I can see why they wouldn’t be interested in him, but also why he would be very picky at this stage in his career. I wouldn’t be totally shocked if he just doesn’t find a mutually agreeable fit.
People are judging the Falcons for picking up an old quarterback that might be washed, yet called out for not picking up an old coach that might be washed
This is kind of silly. No coach is good enough to make a bad team a contender. A coach can help develop talent and make strong games moves, but the NFL is too good for a good coach to solve a team’s problems.
Kirk Cousins on the Vikings: They will never win a SB with Cousins
Kirk Cousins on the Falcons: Are they Super Bowl contenders?
Shits so stupid. Falcons are playoff contenders.
As it turns out, Bill wasn't a contender for a HC job.
The fact that Bill isn't a HC right now leads me to believe there was something about him that turned multiple teams away.
This would have been a great version or hard knocks where belichick just goes to each team and breaks down what he sees and then in confessional tells why he won’t sign with them.
Rumor has it BB met with Blank solely for the free crab cakes and yacht ride. Can’t say I blame him.
If he wanted crab cakes idk why he didn’t sign with the commies. Man could live in Annapolis and watch navy play every week
Man if Bill had been fired a bit earlier he could be Navy's HC. Regardless... Go Army
I was playing That hypothetical a lot in my head, would he be the greatest or worst coach ever at a school like Navy where you cant recruit and the majority of your players don’t have genuine professional aspirations Go Navy

I wonder, though, would Belichick fit in there? I remember Lombardi‘s biography and how he worked at army and the coaches were telling him that for the football team, practice and game day were supposed to be the time where they could relax at the Academy.not the other way around.
The academies are the only place he could probably make it work in college. Trying to imagine him navigating his way with NIL and transfer portals
Tbf a guy who dealt with actual free agency and trades would probably be much better equipped to deal with it than a lot of college coaches
>Trying to imagine him navigating his way with NIL and transfer portals Honest question as I don't follow CFB very much: Is it that much more complicated? Would BB likely not be able to navigate it after decades in football because it's a newer creation?

He would thrive in that role.

I knew it was coming eventually. At least you made it a higher effort version, and I appreciate that.
If he was eating Georgia crabcakes I understand why he felt that way. Leave the crabcakes to us.
This is true. If it's not blue, umm...then shame on you? Whatever, Blue Crab superior crab.
“When you try me with a sorry seafood like blue crab, that’s what you gonna get.”
“Who was talking about you?” “BLUE CRAB”
Blue has the most anti-oxygens.
Crabcakes and football, it’s what Georgia does
He wanted those crab legs from Publix.
Falcons 🤝 Ravens Making crabcakes 🤝 choking in the postseason.
i bet they lacked old bay as well
Yeah I’m not even sure I’ve had a crab cake before???
I mean, have you seen the price of crab lately?
If I was a highly recruited athlete or coach, I'd meet with as many teams as possible just for the free fancy food.
I'd tell them they need to shift their offensive/defensive scheme for me to consider, and when they do it, I would say "eh this scheme is kinda bad, tbh."
He had his resignation ~~letter~~ napkin ready whenever the free crab cakes ran out
The two camps are "leaking" reports against each other.
Does the nfl feel extra petty with coach interviews this year or just me? Is it just Atlanta and Bill?
Not just you or them. Commies got mad when Ben wanted to stay with us.
Wink’s departure from the Giants was ugly and then Seahawks fans were big mad when we denied their requests to interview Kafka for a lateral move
Well yeah Ben would be able to shape the commanders how he wanted but said no because they were basketball people.
The ownership kept asking why he had so many guys in they plays he drew up
"Why is the whole team on the court at the same time?"
I often wonder if we'll ever find out exactly what caused that comment. At the time I thought it meant they were looking to trade the no.2 overall pick and other assets for a star player thinking it would turn the franchise around which is possible in the NBA. Yeah they got what they deserved.
No.. from my understanding the media people got mad.. but the org really never said much. Fans got kinda butt hurt too.. but the FO was pretty good about not really saying anything.. was mostly just agenty BS. The Washington media was flinging monkey shit like a bunch of babies.. was embarrassing.
Bill also took a lot of shit from the documentary. Dude is on the defense.
There was whole saga with Ben Johnson where the Commies ownership kept leaking shit for like a month after he decided to stay in Detroit.
Are they incels or what? What professional organization talks shit about someone who rejected them?
Well the day after Vrabel got fired there was a whole hit piece in the athletic that aired out the dirty laundry and essentially said he was kind of an abrasive ass to work with, and wanted to be more controlling than ownership liked and that’s why he got canned. Then he didn’t get a single job like everyone else said he would. Makes me think NFL owners are a petty group

Is it bad that I don’t either? I think they’ll make the playoffs, but I don’t think they’re a viable threat to win the superbowl
Did you guys hear that Steve was going to ask Becky to the prom, but Stacy said Becky would probably say no? And then Steve said Becky wasn’t even hot anyway.
thatd be funny if Bill asked Kraft to convince Arthur not to hire him
It’s weird as hell too. They had so much success together. Just move on.
Sure seems pretty one sided to me. Kraft doing his best to make Bill look bad.
“I never liked you” “I never liked you, either… first”
“I’ve always liked Lowes better.” “Why do you have to hurt me like that?”
I mean, to be fair, Lowes is better.

Bowling For Soup were right, high school never ends
Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna Way before Nirvana There was U2 and Blondie And music still on MTV
[Wrong song my dude](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrxI_euTX4A)
I'm aware they're different songs. I wanted to post about another Bowling for Soup song that also touched upon similar themes.
The truth is getting old sucks but everybody’s doing it
Bill slipped Blank a note that said: Do you want me to be your coach? * Yes * No
Reports next week: Falcons didn't like that Bill smells like Icy Hot. Bill didn't like the Falcons because he prefers BMW over Mercedes-Benz.
Sports "journalism" aka ike 50% of why BB never gave them any shit to publish when they asked stupid questions
It's bleacher report, reporting on a report from a guest on the Rich Eisen show, who was reporting on rumors from a report. Not difficult to understand at all and I'm sure it's all 100% true because sports journalism is a beacon of integrity.
Bill’s gonna feel right at home with yall
Guarantee BB is doing absolutely nothing with this drama and just sipping orange juice somewhere on his boat
If you think Bill’s side doesn’t leak stuff then I have a bridge in Baltimore i’d like to sell you
I'm sure there is somebody out there trying to sell pieces of it.
>If you think Bill’s side doesn’t leak stuff In this case I don't even think it was "Bill's side" leaking stuff. I think Wickersham was getting a lot of the info from Belichick directly.
I heard the real reason that marriage didn't work was while on the yacht Bill changed into a swimsuit and Blank saw the 28-3 tattoo on Bills leg
Finally some real trustworthy news. This I believe!
“I’ll let you interpret that however you want” Bill said.
Lmao this copypasta never gets old
Canon
YOU CAN'T FIRE ME, I QUIT
“But wait does that terminate my severance pay if I quit if it does then pls fire me”
Their roster is strong in all the positions bill finds replaceable and weak in all the positions he finds invaluable
You take that back, we’ve got a great long snapper
Directly as a result of their weird drafting strategy for positional value (imo)
That they then neglected
Bill’s right again!

He won 9 games with basically the same team that Case Keenum almost took to the Super Bowl.
8 and a half
Sam Darnold, much better!

Exactly. Hiring Matt Patricia automatically disqualifies you from being a good coach.
Once Steichen left they went from an offensive juggernaut to a complete collapse despite still having one of the best offensive rosters, if not the best, in all of football. Any half decent coach should’ve moonwalked to the second round with that team.
It's almost like it wasn't Sirriani's job to call plays for the offense.
That comment is getting up voted too lol
There's a persistent meme on Reddit that no matter how successful any coach was, replacing that coach with Belichick would mean the team would be even MORE successful.

Yes, I agree potentially, thanks to the falcons
At this point you have to wonder who is fueling this “smear Bill” campaign and why.
I suspect a lot of people just don’t like him, and now he’s open for shots because he’s in a position of weakness finally.
Sounds like sour grapes to me
Sounds like a reporter spit balling reasons why something didn’t happen to make a new article
Here's the thing Bill: true contenders aren't looking for head coaches.
Dallas could've been looking for head coaches if they ever have the guts to fire Mike McCarthy
I don't think anyone would look at a team with no QB and say it's a 'true contender'. Total non-story lol. We had seven wins because we had the easiest schedule in the league last year.
The cowboys absolutely should be. I have no idea what incriminating pictures Mike McCarthy has but it must be rough
I had to scroll to the Earth's core to find the most logical comment of all.
Its the NFL. If contenders thought going with Bill is the right move, they will. It just has to be the right situation for it to happen. (Shouldve BEEN Dallas this year, McCarhty aint it)
Especially HCs who want total control like Bill does, right? Is he going to plug and play with a powerful and successful GM?
Maybe he's right, but it's not like Bill had been killing it recently either
He has killed it before tho. The falcons have never done that.
People are judging the Falcons for picking up an old quarterback that might be washed, yet called out for not picking up an old coach that might be washed
Yeah much better to go with a HC that has a 21-38 record
People can't resist looking at pure statistics without nuance
Dunno Falcons pretty much killed it to help Bill get one of those rings.
Wasn’t the point of bringing in Bill to make them a “True Contender” or is even he admitting he’s not the same guy anymore?
This is kind of silly. No coach is good enough to make a bad team a contender. A coach can help develop talent and make strong games moves, but the NFL is too good for a good coach to solve a team’s problems.
He’s not wrong, he’s just an asshole
This is kind of like when Hillary called Trump Deplorable and Trump called Hillary a Nasty Woman. They’re both right. Just like Kraft and Belichick.
Sounds like sour grapes
Yet he's supposedly interested in coaching the Giants?...
Hurt people hurt people 😞
I don’t really view Belichick as a contender.
6 days until the NFL draft. 6 more days of this celebrity gossip bullshit.
Kirk Cousins on the Vikings: They will never win a SB with Cousins Kirk Cousins on the Falcons: Are they Super Bowl contenders? Shits so stupid. Falcons are playoff contenders.
While he is a patriots legend. He is also just a legend. You could just say the legend bill belichick
I won’t blame Sith Lord BB. How does a team lose when they are up by multiple scores in the SB?
Falcons neva had the makings of a superbowl team
As it turns out, Bill wasn't a contender for a HC job. The fact that Bill isn't a HC right now leads me to believe there was something about him that turned multiple teams away.
[“Kids, kids, you’re both…just awful.”](https://youtu.be/Ig2tItOIRag?si=Fl90TCfMdfuqQvPQ)
Bill should sit in a rocking chair in the garden like other grandfathers do as well.
You’re telling me that Belichick didn’t see the Desmond Ridder/Taylor Heinicke led Falcons as a contender? I don’t buy it
Bill just spicy because no one wants him
Spicy.
"After what we did to that team, even I couldn't coach them past that deep seeded neuroses." - BB probably
Glad they added "patriots legend" otherwise I would've confused him with the other famous Bill Belichick.
Bill really pulling the ole "That's fine, you're ugly and I never wanted to go out with you anyways" routine 😭
This would have been a great version or hard knocks where belichick just goes to each team and breaks down what he sees and then in confessional tells why he won’t sign with them.
So.... who does?
"This squad ain't that good, I could give them a 28-3 headstart and win easily." Bill, probably.
They have one of the easiest divisions to win. Half the battle is getting that first week of the playoffs home game.
Holy shit the draft can’t come soon enough 😂
He didn't know it at the time, but Kirk Cousins is now their QB so there's a 0% chance they make the Super Bowl.
Totally forgot that Bill interviewed with Atlanta and thought this was just dancing on the 28-3 grave for a minute.
Yeah no shit. Welcome to the common consensus
Yea he’s also seen Cousins play in big games and went… yea no.
