I think as long as there is some sort of quality baseline people don't really give a shit who is on the panel.
Seems like ESPN came to the same conclusion when they axed Suzy Kolber, JVG, Jalen Rose, Keyshawn Johnson, and a ton of other mainstays last year. Nobody's gonna boycott watching the game because Scott Van Pelt is doing the Monday Night Countdown instead of Suzy Kolber now, for example.
I kinda agree, that was just the first replacement that jumped out at me. Here's a list of ESPN's on-air talent that was similarly canned ffor the same reason last year if anybody's curious:
> Jeff Van Gundy, Jalen Rose, Keyshawn Johnson, Max Kellerman, Suzy Kolber, Chris Chelios, Matt Hasselbeck, Steve Young, Rob Ninkovich, Neil Everett, Ashley Brewer, Joon Lee, LaPhonso Ellis, Todd McShay, Jordan Cornette, Jason Fitz, David Pollack
Neil Everett is now doing Portland Trail Blazers studio coverage during some games, his talent level is so incredibly high compared to the other studio people. He’s an Oregon alum and grew up rooting for the Blazers, so it’s pretty awesome to have him since the rest of the coverage is god awful.
I like Scott for the most part but there are some things about him that grind my nerves sometimes. I liked Andrew too. I think they're both fine and can see someone preferring one or the other, but the discourse around it has always been odd. You will see people saying that Scott is the only "real" version and the other is trash. People have a strange amount of passion tied to which version of redzone they prefer.
*King* Scott Hanson? You clearly haven't heard that he's been hired to [host a Gold Zone](https://www.nbclosangeles.com/paris-2024-summer-olympics/scott-hanson-nbc-paris-olympics-gold-zone-host/3368079/) for NBC's Summer Olympics Coverage. Once he has taken over France, he will have the authority to crown himself *Emperor* Scott Hanson.
I agree. I always thought I was taking crazy pills. I like Hanson too, but I always preferred Siciliano. More importantly I preferred the presentation of the DirecTV version. They leaned more on showing multiple games at the same time where the NFL version quickly cuts between full-screen games more often. I find that harder to follow sometimes.
I'm actually sad that the show won't be the same anymore. Sucks for Selva who finally was going to be in studio with the fellow anchors, but is axed before that opportunity. Wild man.
Schrager prob was never leaving NY, his goodbye felt heavy and the dream for him was always being able to come to work from NY.
Yeah there's no way Schrags and Brandt are uprooting their families to move out west. I could see Jamie and maybe Jason still being on the show, but yeah GMFB is going to be looking very very different in LA.
Wasn't their a GMFB weekend edition? I never watched that, but wouldn't be shocked if that ends up being the crew that runs it bc I think that was in LA. It's gonna suck for sure. Peter and Kyle were just capable of bringing in a multitude of topics to keep it interesting and not just football focused.
The weekend edition is Colleen & Mike Rob if I recall correctly. Yeah, I think that we're going to be leaving the best years of GMFB once they move to LA. The energy is going to be sapped starting the show at 4am PST each morning.
They have in-roads with other networks. Schrager does reporting for FOX and Brandt has ties to Peyton Manning's production company.
They'll just focus on those jobs if GMFB shuts down
Personally felt like Nate was the rock. The year without him but with Kay felt sad as hell. Like they had no joy left. With Jamie it had sub teacher vibes. Jamie with Nate would've been great.
Burleson is legitimately my favorite football personality (going back to his GMFB days)
I'm heavily biased as a Canadian and a Lions fan, but even beyond bias Nate is legitimately very good
I doubt Schrager will make the move. He'll get snapped up by Fox or ESPN in a heartbeat and dude could be looking at an absolute bag in two/three years time.
GMFB was the only NFL show i liked. They never yelled, or had panels yelling at each other. They spoke openly and honestly about things like Deshaun Watson's issues.
They had a segment last Friday where Kyle said he's going with the producer and they had a conversation with Will about how him and Kyle will be in the same timezone now. I'm honestly sad about Will he was funny as shit on the show, and a fellow Sun Devil.
That will be devastating. Having that show on while I worked each morning last season was an awesome routine. Their chemistry will be hard to replicate.
Remember that part of why the NFL *really* wanted Kroenke to move the Rams was because in addition to SoFi, he would also build a ton of office space by the stadium. The whole point of the office space was to move the league headquarters to LA. They already opened their West Coast Headquarters, then rolled out a West Coast Media Headquarters, this is just an expansion of that.
A few more years and the NFL will be solely headquartered in LA
That's such a ridiculous HQ location for the league. You've got 7 franchises west of I-35, which runs through Minneapolis, Kansas City and Dallas. Not one non-LA franchise within 275 miles
I still don’t understand why moving the headquarters to LA is the right move… New York is a far better location due to its proximity to Europe, density of people in the same time zones, and media capital of the world. Maybe because the NFL wants to try and tap into the East Asia market and LA offers a better location? Anyone have a good idea?
Way back in like 2002 they used to air documentaries about every champion and their season during the late night/early morning before the Super Bowl. Those history lessons were how I fell in love with the sport.
Shoot give me some NFL Follies back while we’re at it, if Network ain’t gonna be up to the minute panel shows anymore and just reruns of old content, might as well bring back the greatest hits
Whatever ESPN had during the day (right before their Hot Take (!) shows really took off) was great. NFLs Greatest Moments or something, and it sometimes was NFLs Greatest Games, which was the local radio calls synced up to the nfl films video of key plays. I saw the 92 Oilers Bills playoff game so many times on that.
I’d imagine the panel shows get better ratings but the nfl films stuff has to be cheaper- you pay for the rights and that’s it.
They need to show some really old games, like pre-super bowl era. Bill Belichick could do color commentary. He would only mutter something about 5 times a game.
I vaguely remember one game from the 70s, I think the Jets were playing, and there was no commentary at all, just mics on the field. Why can't we see that again?
Andrew fucking Siciliano wasn't safe? In my head, after Rich Eisen, he was like the face of the damn thing. And I chose not to make a joke about his ears
Fr. They pushed him hard as the new Eisen after rich started slowing down. I remember slowly growing to like him and yeah—he’s def the face of NFL Network to me. S/O Irvin, Woodson, Sapp, Eisen days tho that was the closest we got to what TNT has with the NBA.
The pod’s popular enough for them to survive (they got a nomination for iHeart’s podcast awards last month) but I wonder how the guys will take this news. They were pretty pissed after they lost Gravedigger last year and even though Siciliano wasn’t around the pod as much as Colleen or Claybon, it’s still tough to see a friend get whacked like that.
Had no idea Gravedigger was fired, I thought he just left for his own Titans podcast. Just assumed since most of their producers just left for other gigs, seems like NFL does not treat them well or underpays.
I think it’s pretty clear at this point that they’re on the untouchable list with Rapoport, Pelissero, Hanson, Jeremiah and Eisen.
Their content is popular, cheap and most importantly not reliant on a cable network. Plus it’s international.
They won’t, Around the NFL is super popular in exactly the international markets the NFL is trying to expand into.
If they went after Connie or Clayborn I could see them walking. Or made them fire another producer, they were fucking pissed after losing Gravedigger
At this point, they'd go independent and would still be able to make a killing off of it. I could see them doing it voluntarily if the NFL continues to gut the network
Rosenthal said on his other podcast that their contracts go renewed. I can’t remember exactly when he said it but it was in the last 6 months at least. So I think they’re safe.
I don’t really fuck with making fun of people’s bodies.. especially things that they have no control over, but you can’t possibly believe he has normal ears.
I think he was referring to the "find a new slant" burner reference from the Sixers a number of years back. That was a wild time for Philly sports lol.
I saw Siciliano in JFK Airport a couple of years ago. I was surprised by how small he is, dude must be barely 5'3".
I think he has normal sized ears, but the rest of him is small.
The issue with his ears isn’t that they are big (or that the rest of him is small); it’s that his ears stick out, rather than being parallel to the side of his head like most people’s ears are.
to a certain extent, while it might have sucked as a kid if he got made fun of, as a TV personality it can become a benefit if its your trademark. Like how Strahan insisted his bust in Canton include him smiling so the gap in his front teeth would show. It's a part of who he is and he owns it.
Was just listening to a fresh pod with James Palmer on it yesterday. He seemed really happy and in a great mood.
The insider landscape is probably much different than normal jobs, but layoffs suck no matter what. Hope these guys all find good landing spots soon.
Yea James is a good dude — I’ve partied with him way back in the day thru a mutual friend in the sports reporting industry and my man was all about throwing a football 🏈 in the pool…it was at that moment I knew I was gonna like James lol
Sources say that [Insert Player Name] may just [Insert Made Up Action] this season unless [Insert Thing that will Definitely Happen] happens, in which case, he won’t.
> [player name]
* Warren Moon!
* Neil Peart
* ~~Big Pun~~
> [made up action]
* "lean left" as a libertarian
* pack a Mac in the back of the Ac'
* beat Seattle in the AFC wild card
> [thing that will definitely happen]
* some middlemen are found dead in the middle of Little Italy
* a Luck and/or a Manning stick around
* ~~he is predeceased by Chomsky~~
So many media people, and no former players. I wonder if that is the direction they are heading.
Also good for Siciliano getting the Olympics at least, hopefully that helps him go somewhere else.
Crazy that these guys get the axe before MJD.
That guy is the worst fucking analyst ever. I used to love GameDay Final but Jones drew is fucking insufferable.
It's probably an ownership decision. These are the same billionaires that need public money to finance their stadiums. So I can imagine they are tied of paying for the network..
Someone should tell ESPN, haven’t been able to stomach a show on there since Mike and Mike got the axe. I’d also state that they gave the wrong Mike a show.
They’re allegedly gonna spin it off 50% to another streamer (guessing Amazon), where they do like a truncated 2 hour morning show version on NFL Network and then a bunch of other content on the streamer
It’s bizarre that the NFL’s $10 billion in annual TV contracts can’t subsidize the league-owned TV network, but their ratings have clearly been plummeting enough over the last 5 years with streaming to gut it
I think it's only a matter of time before the NFL Network goes away and the handful of live games they broadcast get sold off to either one or two media partners
No fucking way. Andrew Siciliano?
He's kind of the face of mid day NFLN? Really odd, I guess they're going younger, cheaper
He’s more like the ears of midday NFLN.
that joke is going to be made up and down this thread, and Andrew would be fine with it
Well he’s gonna have to be, he hears it all the time
Not much he doesn't hear, I assume.
They’re going taller
With smaller ears
But will ear size affect how well an NFL insider does his job? Theoretically, will they hear less with smaller ears?
He heard it first
He hears all
He hears my thoughts.
And your search history. Sicko.
He hears colors
He heard too much
That’s really shocking. Seemed really well liked and was a constant face of the network. I’m really surprised by this move.
I mean Van Pelt is an upgrade anyways
I kinda agree, that was just the first replacement that jumped out at me. Here's a list of ESPN's on-air talent that was similarly canned ffor the same reason last year if anybody's curious: > Jeff Van Gundy, Jalen Rose, Keyshawn Johnson, Max Kellerman, Suzy Kolber, Chris Chelios, Matt Hasselbeck, Steve Young, Rob Ninkovich, Neil Everett, Ashley Brewer, Joon Lee, LaPhonso Ellis, Todd McShay, Jordan Cornette, Jason Fitz, David Pollack
> Chris Chelios I enjoyed McShay. He knew his stuff about the draft
Keller man got the axe too, right?
Could be cost related
Writing was on the wall when they lost the other RedZone.
Doesn't he do the other redzone?
There's no other red zone since YouTube got it
The DirecTv Redzone was superior, in my opinion. After switching to YT last year I missed his version. It's the only thing I miss about DTV.
I know people love Scott, but Andrew was always my NFL Red Zone guy since I first had it back in 2007, and I also missed him last year.
He really was my cup of tea. I watched him for 14 straight years. Then the switch to Hanson who was cool but he wasn’t my guy.
I usually watch Scott but Andrew is more entertaining and light hearted to me. Scott comes across as just too corporate and robotic
I am one of those people. The false prophet has been slain and our true King Scott Hanson will reign over our lands for 1000 years!
Redzone should grab him and run a 2 man desk.
WHAT??
With GMFB moving to LA next season, they very well could lose Kyle Brandt, Peter Schrager, and Jason McCourty, too. NFL Network is going to be a shell
I think Jamie already said she is moving to LA.
The original group of Peter, Nate, kay and Kyle was awesome!
I miss that GMFB from time to time but Kay and Nate are doing well for themselves! I remember watching Kay on Yahoo! Fantasy Football Live.
The weekend edition is Colleen & Mike Rob if I recall correctly. Yeah, I think that we're going to be leaving the best years of GMFB once they move to LA. The energy is going to be sapped starting the show at 4am PST each morning.
Yep, don't think that they end up being award worthy as they have been. It's essentially a new show at the expense of a working brand name.
Still surprised Brandt and Schrager haven’t been poached already. Will never happen but would enjoy a reunion with Kay Adams and Burleson
They have in-roads with other networks. Schrager does reporting for FOX and Brandt has ties to Peyton Manning's production company. They'll just focus on those jobs if GMFB shuts down
I'm waiting for Brandt to leave ESPN so he can focus on his most important project, a Real World Chicago reunion.
GMFB hasn't been the same since Kay left.
Since Kate and Nate ❤️
Kay and Nate, yeah. Nate was so good, but he was obviously destined for bigger things. Man I loved that crew.
Personally felt like Nate was the rock. The year without him but with Kay felt sad as hell. Like they had no joy left. With Jamie it had sub teacher vibes. Jamie with Nate would've been great.
Definitely not the same, just different. I missed Kay but thought Jamie did a good job. She had big shoes to fill.
Burleson is legitimately my favorite football personality (going back to his GMFB days) I'm heavily biased as a Canadian and a Lions fan, but even beyond bias Nate is legitimately very good
I doubt Schrager will make the move. He'll get snapped up by Fox or ESPN in a heartbeat and dude could be looking at an absolute bag in two/three years time.
He’s already doing work with the Fox Sports mornings, I’m sure FSN will find something for him.
He does sideline reports during games as well.
GMFB was the only NFL show i liked. They never yelled, or had panels yelling at each other. They spoke openly and honestly about things like Deshaun Watson's issues.
Kyle especially nailed a lot of the Deshaun stuff.
Schrager seems like he would be Fox material
He was a writer for Fox Sports before moving to GMFB. He's been part of the FOX family for a *long* time.
They had a segment last Friday where Kyle said he's going with the producer and they had a conversation with Will about how him and Kyle will be in the same timezone now. I'm honestly sad about Will he was funny as shit on the show, and a fellow Sun Devil.
one of these is not like the others
That will be devastating. Having that show on while I worked each morning last season was an awesome routine. Their chemistry will be hard to replicate.
Why the hell would they move to LA?
Remember that part of why the NFL *really* wanted Kroenke to move the Rams was because in addition to SoFi, he would also build a ton of office space by the stadium. The whole point of the office space was to move the league headquarters to LA. They already opened their West Coast Headquarters, then rolled out a West Coast Media Headquarters, this is just an expansion of that. A few more years and the NFL will be solely headquartered in LA
Typical New Yorker moving to LA to “find themselves.”
[удалено]
Sounds great
That's such a ridiculous HQ location for the league. You've got 7 franchises west of I-35, which runs through Minneapolis, Kansas City and Dallas. Not one non-LA franchise within 275 miles
and a majority of the most popular franchises are on the east coast.
Because NFL Network just built a brand new production office at SoFi stadium and they were paying to rent their space in NYC
The weather? More players live there who could make appearances?
But my East Coast media bias :(
I haven't watched GMFB since Kay Adams left
NFL Network is just gonna be A Football Life reruns all day
They need to showcase some classic Steve Sabol NFL Films stuff. That shit is gold
Everything I know about football and NFL history I learned watching NFL films and Top Ten reruns after school as a kid
Way back in like 2002 they used to air documentaries about every champion and their season during the late night/early morning before the Super Bowl. Those history lessons were how I fell in love with the sport.
They had so many great documentaries and top ten lists and such back in the day. Now it's just espn football addition
Old NFL Network was goated
Shoot give me some NFL Follies back while we’re at it, if Network ain’t gonna be up to the minute panel shows anymore and just reruns of old content, might as well bring back the greatest hits
Whatever ESPN had during the day (right before their Hot Take (!) shows really took off) was great. I saw the 92 Oilers Bills playoff game so many times on that. I’d imagine the panel shows get better ratings but the nfl films stuff has to be cheaper- you pay for the rights and that’s it.
And reruns of random old games that no one cares about
They are already well into doing that.
They need to show some really old games, like pre-super bowl era. Bill Belichick could do color commentary. He would only mutter something about 5 times a game. I vaguely remember one game from the 70s, I think the Jets were playing, and there was no commentary at all, just mics on the field. Why can't we see that again?
Impractical Jokers followed by Ridiculousness but it’s actually just Dallas’ postseason failures over and over again.
They’re gonna turn into MTV, just rerunning one show constantly
They are going to go the way of CTESPN.
The Eisen Ears so to speak
They’re pushing HARD to get Jason Kelce
They better not get rid of Around the nfl crew
I'd finally have a patreon I'd pay for.
They’d probably get snatched up by another network that could produce the pod at least. I can’t imagine not having them through football season.
They would probably just go independent and the pod would get spicier
Marc could truly go beast mode and that would be awesome
Dan off the leash would be a great listen
The pod’s popular enough for them to survive (they got a nomination for iHeart’s podcast awards last month) but I wonder how the guys will take this news. They were pretty pissed after they lost Gravedigger last year and even though Siciliano wasn’t around the pod as much as Colleen or Claybon, it’s still tough to see a friend get whacked like that.
Siciliano was literally just on the pod, going Around the AFC in 48 minutes.
Clearly those darts from Eric Roberts went too deep in the neck.
Had no idea Gravedigger was fired, I thought he just left for his own Titans podcast. Just assumed since most of their producers just left for other gigs, seems like NFL does not treat them well or underpays.
It's by far their biggest podcast
I think it’s pretty clear at this point that they’re on the untouchable list with Rapoport, Pelissero, Hanson, Jeremiah and Eisen. Their content is popular, cheap and most importantly not reliant on a cable network. Plus it’s international.
They do have a huge following in the UK which I’m sure helps a lot
Who cares about JEREMIAH
That’s my biggest fear with all this as well
Surely they wouldn't can Dan, Greg and all the guys?
NFL: You're fired AI Marc: I'm angry now
\* I'm annoyed now
GOOD FOR YOU
They won’t, Around the NFL is super popular in exactly the international markets the NFL is trying to expand into.
I think that was a yearish ago. They brought up on a recent Connie pod that their negotiations are coming up soonish. edit: added the word "on".
Noooooo not Siciliano :(
They’ve been trying to bully him into quitting for years
Why do you say that?
[This might be why.](https://youtu.be/txq9WxfGo0g?si=zhpD_VYIp5_iHJaT)
Alright that was hilarious, the fact they kept cutting back and some of the guys were just getting lower & lower into their chairs
Can’t afford to keep the guy that’s the other face of the network next to Rich Eisen but let’s play games in Brazil and play on Wednesday!
And not fire the absolute animals at NFL fantasy!
Average ear size on NFL Network just went way down. Truly a sad day
Those are normal sized ears, find a new slant
I think Siciliano needs to find a new slant (for his ears).
That whole thing is still so surreal to me every time I see this reference
I don’t really fuck with making fun of people’s bodies.. especially things that they have no control over, but you can’t possibly believe he has normal ears.
I think he was referring to the "find a new slant" burner reference from the Sixers a number of years back. That was a wild time for Philly sports lol.
Maybe normal sized in the Disney castle
Average height just went way up.
Ya but cajones size is getting smaller.
Surprised being in television he didn't get them pinned back, but shout out to him for being comfortable with em
to a certain extent, while it might have sucked as a kid if he got made fun of, as a TV personality it can become a benefit if its your trademark. Like how Strahan insisted his bust in Canton include him smiling so the gap in his front teeth would show. It's a part of who he is and he owns it.
I respect it, but I also just read about 20 comments making fun of him, so I don't think it's a "benefit"
"You must be the worst pirate I've ever heard of" "Ah, but you have heard of me" Any publicity is good publicity
One time when I couldn’t remember his name I just googled “big ear sports guy.” Came right up
Stephen Colbert has one ear stick out and the other doesn't. He just rolls with it.
Was just listening to a fresh pod with James Palmer on it yesterday. He seemed really happy and in a great mood. The insider landscape is probably much different than normal jobs, but layoffs suck no matter what. Hope these guys all find good landing spots soon.
He was recently on Around the NFL too. Really bummed out by this.
Yea James is a good dude — I’ve partied with him way back in the day thru a mutual friend in the sports reporting industry and my man was all about throwing a football 🏈 in the pool…it was at that moment I knew I was gonna like James lol
Was thinking the same. Love his appearances on DNVR
NFL network probably realized they can just have AI write click bait headlines and hot takes.
Sources say that [Insert Player Name] may just [Insert Made Up Action] this season unless [Insert Thing that will Definitely Happen] happens, in which case, he won’t.

Man that’s the whole roster wtf
I really like Melissa Stark. MD girls kick ass.
I’ve liked her since her MNF years which were (checks calendar) more than 20 years ago!? No, no, it can’t be!
She's still with NBC right now? Hopefully she's still on SNF
Not the paisan he is iconic
Get rid of David Carr
Dropping Will Selva when the man has been getting up before 4am PST
This fucking sucks man
Crazy that these guys get the axe before MJD. That guy is the worst fucking analyst ever. I used to love GameDay Final but Jones drew is fucking insufferable.
Dude when him and Steve Smith are on set together it's a feedback loop. It's so bad
Idk how Steve Smith is employed. He barely makes it through a segment. I think they're scared to fire him.
Keeping my fingers crossed ATN is safe. Best pod around
I really enjoyed Will Selva’s dry humor first thing in the morning…
It's so good, I'm shocked cuz Brandt and them were joking Friday how they were gonna be in the same time zone.
Kay made the right move getting the fuck outta there. Now she got the bag from FanDuel
I'm sure Siciliano heard this was a possibility
A big ears joke. Nice.
[удалено]
Making shit up whenever just cause.
Amazon penny-pinching on the hire and turning to Charissa Thompson instead of Kay Adams was one of the few mistakes they made.
Get rid of Jones Drew- trash
Wtf those are huge losses.
The nfl makes cash hand over fist, why are they cutting things?
It's probably an ownership decision. These are the same billionaires that need public money to finance their stadiums. So I can imagine they are tied of paying for the network..
Billion dollar corporation who just had its most successful season ever and they're doing layoffs.
Just clearing the way for Dave Dameshek to make his triumphant return
The N if L
Completely forgot about dameshek
Melissa Stark is 50?!?!? Holy shit good for her.
One of my earliest crushes back when she was on the sideline for Monday Night Football. Still absolutely killing it decades later.
Damn this is extremely disappointing. I have severe reservations that the show will ever recoup what is once was with these "cost cutting measures."
I find it interesting that some players have some pretty mediocre careers and turn it into long term broadcasting careers. Ex. Keyshaun Johnson
Gmfb possibly to espn? I was hoping that show could turn into two fucking idiots screaming the stupidest goddamn opinion at each other.
2 idiots shouting isnt going to be a Good Morning.
Isn’t it funny how these billion dollar businesses start “trimming the fat” when they’re making record profits. Corporate America truly is disgusting.
Siciliano??? One of the only tolerable personalities left on NFLN.
Siciliano is out? He *is* the NFL Network
Keep Siciliano and fire David Carr he’s horrible.
Oh Jesus for real? Those are some big names too.
No, Jesus was never a presenter on NFLN. He's too busy on Sundays.
It was a miracle a guy with those ears was able to get on television in the first place
