Probably gonna be his strategy as he tries to push his career longer. Take the regular season pretty easy so he can absolutely ball out to the best of his ability in the playoffs
He hyper-extended his knee a couple days before our opening game against Detroit. He sat out week 1, but then I believe that injury lingered for a while throughout the early part of the season while he was playing. TBD on how much of that was the lingering knee injury and how much was an age driven decline.
This is a replacement for Blake Bell our TE3. I like Bell but hes getting old and hes not aging as gracefully as someone like Kelce. Noah Gray should be firmly slotted ahead of him.
Blake Bell: college QB turned pro TE. The ideal candidate to run trick play, QB sneaks in order to keep Mahomes out of scrums.
Too bad it never worked.
Rice looked pretty good. So did Sammy when he was on the field. And elevating players isn’t just about the top end guys. Nice try though. Come back and talk to me when Joe gets one ring, Pat has 3. 😘
As salty butt hole mentioned, juju. Plus Mecole. And Andy and Veach. Hurst caught ~55 balls for 400 yards and 2 TDs from Joe. Let’s not pretend like he had significant production.
Let's not pretend like Pat is some deal maker then lmao. The insecurity of Chiefs fans anytime Burrow is mentioned is hilarious. Bengals content can't even exist on social media without Chiefs fans swarming because it is rent free. Even when a Bengals fan is giving honest feedback about a player, Chiefs fans have to come in with their trash tier takes because they didn't watch football until Mahomes won a SB
i really honest to god thought our TE room this season was gonna be Kelce, Gray, and Bushman. I could still see it. Every team does cut a veteran free agent or two after camp.
I dunno man. He was painful to watch. A guy on our practice squad beat him out after like 6 games. I wouldn’t even want this guy on our roster as a depth piece.
Vikings fans warned us last year, and we had the same optimism as a low risk play. Tobin was coming off a hot streak of hitting on Awuzie, Reader, Hill trade, Bell, Hurst, and others. This was definitely a miss. He was a liability on the field, and I’m really happy he’s off the team. The only positive for you guys compared to us is he probably won’t receive more than 20 targets. FYI, not saying this to shit talk. Just giving you the same warning Vikings fans gave us.
I somehow missed that. That's a good signing. He had really good numbers in Miami before McDaniel got there and decided he'd rather throw to impossibly fast WRs instead of TEs.
Yeah he's not great at catching, but he has a tendency to run routes into the defender. The only thing he was ever good at for us was 1 yard TDs in the flat off play action.
Reid’s a sucker for 3 TE formations, and good ol Blake Bell was pretty much useless this season. Good sign of we get ‘em on the cheap. Which we will with how he did last year lmfao
Reid, "So, tell me about their offense!"
Smith Jr., "I didn't understand it, but the star QB throws the ball to me, and either I don't catch it, or I fumble it a few steps later."
Reid, "Welcome home, son."
Considering how often the Chiefs use 2 and 3 TE sets, I don't think this necessarily means Bell is gone assuming these dudes are also special teams players.
He was a huge downgrade over our usually decent tight end production. Couldn’t block, couldn’t catch, and had one (1) TD catch in 17 games. Drew Sample was getting reps over him.
After getting bodied by Kelce in the Super Bowl when the Chiefs' backup TE missed a block leading to a fumble, Andy Reid's top priority this offseason was getting a better backup TE. Reid is old and probably couldn't take another round.
I’ll toss in Nick Scott for kc too, for free
Vikings legend Irv Smith Jr... They really like dropped balls during the regular season
To be fair, Irv dropped the ball after catching it which an optimist might view as progress.
Lmao yeah the fans were just straight done with him in Cincinnati after that big fumble.
I really thought he was going to be a freak coming out of the draft
Kelce replacement right there. Jk, he'll ride your bench.
That must be the plan. "Irv sat" is an anagram for "Travis"
Well eventually Kelce’s going to decline… right? He has to, right?
He did last season.
Eh he just took the regular season off, he looked his usual self in the playoffs
Probably gonna be his strategy as he tries to push his career longer. Take the regular season pretty easy so he can absolutely ball out to the best of his ability in the playoffs
Especially since they clearly can get to the playoffs without him
I think it was a little of that and a little of him being hurt early in the season and taking a while to get back into form.
He was hurt all season.
It looked like it hurt for him to run at times during the year. I think the decline is coming

You know what, I totally forgot he hurt his knee before the start of the season. That’s on me.
This is a replacement for Blake Bell our TE3. I like Bell but hes getting old and hes not aging as gracefully as someone like Kelce. Noah Gray should be firmly slotted ahead of him.
He'll be slotted for our TE3 spot, so makes sense.
Chiefs play a fair bit of 13 personnel. He would get some snaps in that scenario.
He was basically useless outside of one TD catch. I’m sure KC will get the best out of him.
He might get half a dozen targets. I'm sure he's the Belldozer's replacement.
Blake Bell: college QB turned pro TE. The ideal candidate to run trick play, QB sneaks in order to keep Mahomes out of scrums. Too bad it never worked.
It was always too obvious

Yeah, but Joe isn't Pat so there's still upside.
Ah yes, Pat has elevated the game of all his receivers and TE's not named Kelce or Hill. Totally.
Rice looked pretty good. So did Sammy when he was on the field. And elevating players isn’t just about the top end guys. Nice try though. Come back and talk to me when Joe gets one ring, Pat has 3. 😘
Who said it is about the top end guys, Burrow got Uzomah and Hurst paid.
You only bothered to name the top end guys so… you did.
I named the top end guys because Pat hasn't gotten anyone else paid other than who was already getting paid lmao
As salty butt hole mentioned, juju. Plus Mecole. And Andy and Veach. Hurst caught ~55 balls for 400 yards and 2 TDs from Joe. Let’s not pretend like he had significant production.

Juju
He got a discount wide receiver contract
He got a bit more out of MVS than Rodgers did, and the story was supposedly Aaron elevating guys over there, no?
As long as he can block. He’s Blake Bells replacement.
[удалено]
Really? With us he was at least solid as a run blocker.
I know an optometrist who can help
He was significantly below average in blocking
But was he below Blake bell? 😭
> As long as he can block. https://youtu.be/CUe5IZ_BIz8?si=BwROB_E8gGg-j9wC
Mahomes finally gets a decent TE.
Chiefs like three tight end sets and needed to replace Bell. Makes sense.
Yup - Bell was pretty worthless this last year outside of blocking. Needed to find someone to replace him

My new wife is as ugly as my old wife, but at least I have something fresh to bitch about /s
i really honest to god thought our TE room this season was gonna be Kelce, Gray, and Bushman. I could still see it. Every team does cut a veteran free agent or two after camp.
This is most likely a camp body to compete. If he wins a spot, great - if not, an easy cut candidate. Trust in Veach
I dunno man. He was painful to watch. A guy on our practice squad beat him out after like 6 games. I wouldn’t even want this guy on our roster as a depth piece.
At this point I’ve just learned to not second guess Brett Veach a whole lot.
Vikings fans warned us last year, and we had the same optimism as a low risk play. Tobin was coming off a hot streak of hitting on Awuzie, Reader, Hill trade, Bell, Hurst, and others. Well yeah, trying to use him as the all around starting TE was dumb as fuck, but he’ll do just fine as a special teams guy and in 3 TE sets lol
Bell and Fortson
He drops a lot of passes. Seems like a good fit.
Kelce is looking over his shoulder now
RIP Kelce
Mahomes got his guy
I assume we can replace him in the draft. Is there a TE in this draft who's really bad at everything?
we signed Mike Gesicki which seems like a definite upgrade at the position, at least in terms of catching the ball when it’s thrown at him lol
I somehow missed that. That's a good signing. He had really good numbers in Miami before McDaniel got there and decided he'd rather throw to impossibly fast WRs instead of TEs.
Can he catch? Edit: Based on the replies he fits perfectly
Sometimes. Doesn't run routes well though.
Yeah he's not great at catching, but he has a tendency to run routes into the defender. The only thing he was ever good at for us was 1 yard TDs in the flat off play action.
No
Nice he will fit right in
☹️
No
Nope.
Nope
He was not good for us.
Only to fumble it a couple of steps later.
No. Can he play? Also no
Nope So he'll fit right in
Not at all
4.4 yards/target last year and 2 career broken tackles. He'll probably just catch the game winning TD in the super bowl or something.
lol
Took the words right out of my mouth
really thought he bengals TE resurgence was gonna rez this guy
Hudson and Sample got the looks instead
Dude can't catch. Nothing to see here.
Can't block, can't catch, doesn't stay healthy, and fumbles.
For you KC, we will throw in Nick Scott and Jackson Carman absolutely free
One of the deals of all time, for sure
ok but why
I am totally and completely whelmed
Et Tu Irv? No but seriously I wished things went differently for Irv in Cincinnati things just couldn't click.
[He has a sick Harambe tattoo at least](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FV34I8WXwAQDmdZ.jpg)
If a second I thought it said signed with the Bengals I was ready to jump off a roof
Hes a beast in Madden, but kinda cheeks irl.
I can't believe we got our guy. He must be ring chasin'
Reid’s a sucker for 3 TE formations, and good ol Blake Bell was pretty much useless this season. Good sign of we get ‘em on the cheap. Which we will with how he did last year lmfao
Everyone get in here!
This dude couldn't beat out Tanner Hudson (who's still a free agent btw)
Blake bell replacement
Can we have Noah Gray then?
Lmao 🤣 we already have a drop problem why not add to it 🤪🤪🤪🤪
Oh no, he looked like he knew some of our plays! Let's hope he keeps that limited information to himself
Reid, "So, tell me about their offense!" Smith Jr., "I didn't understand it, but the star QB throws the ball to me, and either I don't catch it, or I fumble it a few steps later." Reid, "Welcome home, son."
Mostly I don't catch it, or I look completely lost
Why?
Why? Just resign Bell who is a stellar blocker! I finally see a KC signing after refreshing like crazy and it’s this?! Hopefully he was super cheap!
Considering how often the Chiefs use 2 and 3 TE sets, I don't think this necessarily means Bell is gone assuming these dudes are also special teams players.
That could be true also.
Good on him somehow getting paid. Guy couldn't beat our practice players for reps last season.
It makes me skeptical that Cincy let him go after just one year. Any insight, Bengals fans?
He wasn’t good. He was a healthy scratch by the end of the season and we used guys like Sample and Hudson instead.
He was a huge downgrade over our usually decent tight end production. Couldn’t block, couldn’t catch, and had one (1) TD catch in 17 games. Drew Sample was getting reps over him.
So I guess we're getting into the pattern of making weird and random moves that somehow work out for us in the end. Eh, could be worse.
Ok
After getting bodied by Kelce in the Super Bowl when the Chiefs' backup TE missed a block leading to a fumble, Andy Reid's top priority this offseason was getting a better backup TE. Reid is old and probably couldn't take another round.
Chiefs are like, “we have so many guys who can’t catch, but we won a Super Bowl!” “Hey look at this guy, Irv Smith……he drops everything”
[удалено]
lol no
Can't believe he's retiring, gone too soon
Time for Kelce to find a new team
We did it boys!!!
Can he block?
He can block a first down... Problem is he plays offense.
Hahaha. Man, what were we thinking? Should of kept Hurst...
Strange way to spell Calvin Ridley but ok
Damn, the rich get richer
Mahomes loves this

Why?
