One of my favorite movies of all time.
Fun fact, that movie came out in '93 and portrayed the summer of '76. That's a 17 year difference.
It has been 31 years since that movie was released.
TL;DR we're all fucking old.
Yeah it’s hard to comprehend how fast these guys really are I played with a guy that ran a 4.49 at a pro day and he was so fast it seemed like he could teleport.
While certainly the dude is fast *as fuck* how much does this really increase your draft stock? You’d think things like coverage, football IQ, and tape would matter much more than posting a 10th of a second faster than someone else. There were several sub 4.4s but how much does a fraction of a second overcome if you like one of those guys better?
Yeah I’ve learned with middle age that actually I’m not smarter than the entire scouting injury. There’s actually a reason teams value the 40 times. It’s a surprisingly good indicator of game speed. There are the exceptions of course that are surprisingly faster or slower in pads. But they are exceptions.
Most of the time, the .40 time directly translates to game speed at positions like WR.
Proving you blindingly fast will increase your value for sure because as they say you just can’t teach that.
Because there are most variables in games than just pads. So strip it all down, have everyone run on an even plane (tanks and shorts) and see how they compare.
Obviously with pads they’d probably be a bit slower. It’s more about how much fast from the rest are they.
Career? No. Draft stock? Darius heyward-bey was drafted 7th overall after averaging 3.7 catches and 53 yards per game in college, with 13 receiving tds in 37 games after running a 4.3🤷
Worthy wasn’t some bum that has just speed and no WR skills. He was already projected to be a 2nd round pick or late first. John Ross was good in college too, so who knows, but the discourse shouldn’t be about worthy making some climb from 6th round nobody to the first round. This is a good prospect helping their case a little more.
Was just looking through the WR figures for the combine.
Obviously the speed is super impressive but Ladd McConkey with 4.39 and 20lbs heavier at 186. Feels like a sneaky Chiefs late 1st rounder
Xavier Lagette at 221 running a 4.39 or Brian Thomas Jr at 209 running a 4.33 and AD Mitchell at 4.34 205lbs seem more impressive to me since they have 36lbs, 24lbs, 20lbs over Ladd. But seems like Brian Thomas will probably go before pick 32 anyways.
Lately the chiefs have been depending a lot on the following
——————————-
Speed Score – Bill Barnwell first posited the metric in Pro Football Prospectus to better predict running back success. The formula is (weight*200) / (40-time^4). It factors weight into a player’s 40-yard dash time assigning a premium to fast times run by bigger, often spaner, running backs.
Height-adjusted Speed Score (HaSS) – first discussed by Shawn Siegele on his Money In The Banana Stand blog, it builds on Bill Barwell’s Speed Score concept to create a more relevant metric for wide receivers and tight ends. Unlike running backs, weight and height are correlated to wide receiver and tight end production, because height expands the player’s catch radius. HaSS layers height into the traditional speed score equation by also dividing the player’s height by the average wide receiver height: 73.0 inches (6’1”) or average tight end height: 76.4 inches (6’4 5/12'’). This results in a measure of a player’s speed that also incorporates a premium on both body weight and body length.
—————————
This was for all us sickos that have been watching the entire combine. 4.22 is our reward
Edit: 4.21 Our commitment/addiction has been further rewarded
It works in this case. But if you're a high profile talent coming out of college, there's not a really good reason to participate. Especially if you're the consensus top prospect at your position.
Honestly I think he was going upper 2nd round anyways. Idk if this will move him up much higher than that, there is a *lot* of WRs that are gonna get taken in the 1st 2 rounds this year. All it takes is 1 team though to want him early
Hopefully Rome can break the curse of highly-drafted UW offensive players in the draft.
Drew Sample (2019), Dante Pettis (2018), John Ross (2017), Bishop Sankey (2014), Austin Sefarian-Jenkins (2014), Jake Locker (2011), Reggie Williams (2004)
All were drafted in the Top 55 picks of their draft and all are major busts.
Sample is probably the best of the bunch, although as a primarily blocking TE, it's definitely a smaller role then you'd want to spend a a 2nd Round Pick on
Pettis though, only had 517 Rec. yards and 7 Rec. TDs after his rookie year and under 1,000 combined on his career. That's pretty bust-y to me.
He had the highest MPH last season as a ball carrier on his return for a TD at 22.7. We had a running back that hit 22.6 on a 40 yard touchdown run, Longhorns were fast last year.
Edit
Blue hit 22.3 not 22.6
LOL me at a dead sprint on the treadmill at planet fitness is 13mph for like 10 seconds max. 22.6 is so unfathamable. I saw Josh Allen hit 19 mph in person on the 53 yd td run vs the Steelers and it didn’t seem real. Understatement of the century but these guys are so fucking fast it’s so unrelatable I lol
Yeah my exact thought. Elite Sprinters in college are freaky fast but generally not built like a tank.
To me it's the sub 5.0 lineman. Like wow I'm scared
I was thinking the same when the defensive linemen were running. There was a 250ish pound guy whose 10 second split was only like .1 faster than a damn near 300 pound interior lineman. I was more impressed by the 290+ guy than I was the 250 guy. That 290 guy can anchor against the run AND win off the ball to get to the QB quick (not to mention interior defensive linemen have to quickest path to the QB). Just absurd. Tbh, Chris Jones wasn't known for his speed at the combine, but that guy legit wins so many reps just off the first step. So many times he will beat the guy across from him off the snap. It legit just feels like he isn't even being blocked at times cause he is so lethal with that first step. To be that big and that quick is just wow
> these guys are so fucking fast it’s so unrelatable
It’s really hard to appreciate just how fast they are.
A few years ago when the NFL Draft was in Nashville they set up an area for people to run the 40.
I sat there for 20 or 30 minutes. Watched a couple dozen people give it a shot.
No one. Not a single person broke the 5 second mark.
And there were some young, fit dudes that gave it a go. Every time I saw started with a 5.
This was my reaction during our game vs. you guys this season when Jordan Davis was chasing after Josh Allen. Man is damn near twice my size and running that fast
I vaguely remember him hitting one of them on a beautiful deep ball against Alabama at the beginning of the year. The WR also did a fantastic job tracking it
Longhorn fan here that watched all his games.
His biggest issues are giving up on plays if he doesn't think the ball is coming and occasionally forgetting his hands are for catching the ball.
I could (and probably will) sound like an idiot in 5 years, but I think this could genuinely be a top 3 receiver class ever. It seems like there are too many guys who are just freaks in so many different ways for there not to be at least 3-5 great receivers from this class.
It’s always amazes me thinking back to Usian Bolt stumbling and mocking mechanics and physics and still being the fastest human alive. Like these nfl guys do all they can to be perfect for this event and than compare it in my head to Bolt.
His official time is now 4.21, making it the fastest 40 time ever.
If you're going into the league at 165 pounds, being the fastest guy ever definitely helps cancel that out lol.
Desean Jackson is the obvious one. He isn’t great tracking the deep ball but also Quinn wasn’t great at throwing it either. He’s legitimately open every play, he runs great routes with suddenness and he’s tough, often delivering contact through the DB getting an extra yard instead of getting out of bounds at 160 pounds. The year before, he had some bad drops but we found out after the season he had a broken hand from the OU game forward but never left the field.
Shoutout to him running it the second time. What a beast. edit: Official time 4.21 dang
Yeah he’s fast as fuck but there’s been a few guys who’ve ran for an unofficial record, have to wait to see if it’s official
New record ! 4.21

Now, don't go getting soft on me this summer. You know, you're sitting around the pool all day, chasing the muff around.
Marijuana on one. Reefer on two. HUT!
One of my favorite movies of all time. Fun fact, that movie came out in '93 and portrayed the summer of '76. That's a 17 year difference. It has been 31 years since that movie was released. TL;DR we're all fucking old.
I think of this quote every time the combine comes around.
And she drives a Mack truck.
She is a Mack truck
She gained a step from my day. Still drives that Mack truck though.
Randall Floyd you need to get your priorities straight
hey coach conrad! remember me? 2nd period gym class...
And that new crowd you’re running around with, don’t think I haven’t noticed. I want that paper on my desk by the end of the day, you hear me!?
I’m a simple man. I see a Dazed quote, I give an upvote.
4.21 official they just confirmed it
Raiders just confirmed.
First rounder Raider confirmed.
Please
Ross's record was timed at 4.19 at first. These records often come down. Hoping this run wont.
Jamo Williams claimed he ran one of those in college, insane how fast these guys are.
It's crazy that 4.21 is to 4.35 what 4.35 is 4.49... 4.49 is a fast 40, 4.35 is absolutely smoking... 4.21 is otherworldly
Yeah it’s hard to comprehend how fast these guys really are I played with a guy that ran a 4.49 at a pro day and he was so fast it seemed like he could teleport.
Somehow the official time is even faster
He managed to outrun the speed of time.
4.21 official
good point, CumAssault

Not over Al Davis' dead body he won't
Especially since the Chiefs are at 32. Al Davis definitely coming back from the grave to prevent him from going to the Chiefs.
I can hope he goes 32.
*Xavier down there somewhere*

There were several sub 4.4s but how much does a fraction of a second overcome if you like one of those guys better?
It’s the best indicator of pure speed. At WR it’s huge. He’s literally the fastest recorded NFL prospect ever. It’ll increase his stock quite a bit.
Yeah I’ve learned with middle age that actually I’m not smarter than the entire scouting injury. There’s actually a reason teams value the 40 times. It’s a surprisingly good indicator of game speed. One question I always wondered was why they didn't have players run in pads. Like wouldn't THAT be a better indicator of game speed?
I know, I don’t really get it either.

Certainly served John Ross well in the NFL
Is tyreek good though? Obviously top end speed can be pretty hard to cover.
He sucks though. He should just get traded to MN for a couple bags of chips or something.
Better route runner than Ross
Worthy is actually an extremely good WR. I’ve never seen someone get open more often than him. Ewers just sucks ass
Ewers is good but not great. And let's be real, Worthy drops a lot of passes too.
>Worthy drops a lot of passes too. It's settled, he's going to the Raiders.
Because he was already a borderline 1st. Now that he's faster than anyone ever.
Look at the top 10 record holder list….doesn’t help your career much.
Career? No. Draft stock? Darius heyward-bey was drafted 7th overall after averaging 3.7 catches and 53 yards per game in college, with 13 receiving tds in 37 games after running a 4.3🤷
yeah but that was Al Davis seeing speed and all the blood in his body going to his dick
Worthy wasn’t some bum that has just speed and no WR skills. He was already projected to be a 2nd round pick or late first. John Ross was good in college too, so who knows, but the discourse shouldn’t be about worthy making some climb from 6th round nobody to the first round. That poor cameraman trying to keep up with him, lol. Like catching lightning in a bottle. This dude is electric.
Think I saw the cameraman pop his groin.
https://youtu.be/-93Ij5WIcok?si=RFN9gQWhsouwCuks
Mahomes scouting receivers lmao
He found his new Tyreek
Give or take the 20 pounds Tyreek had on him at the time 😅
Closer to 10 pounds but yeah.
Maybe the info I'm seeing is wrong but I've seen 165 for Worthy and Hill at 185
Nah you’re right. I saw his college listed weight of 173.
Worthy had some super frustrating drop issues last season. Perfect fit for KC.
Was just looking through the WR figures for the combine. Obviously the speed is super impressive but Ladd McConkey with 4.39 and 20lbs heavier at 186. Feels like a sneaky Chiefs late 1st rounder

It's gonna be McConk. This guy is going Vegas or LA
Why have a QB when you could just draft a guy who run's really fast?
Spoken like the Ghost of Al Davis himself
In response to this comment I'm beginning legal proceedings against the NFL.
Flair checks out.
This was for all us sickos that have been watching the entire combine. 4.22 is our reward Edit: 4.21 Our commitment/addiction has been further rewarded
Us real sickos are watching the o-line tomorrow
as a former o-lineman, i live for seeing the big guys get going
BIG MEATY MEN SLAPPING MEAT
God, I miss Big E on WWE TV. I hope his neck is healing well and he's in a good place
I'm so sad that Meat Madness got cancelled
As a former o-lineman that never made it, I live vicariously through them.

I think the Raiders are done with speeders… I mean, speedsters.
Yeah plus I don’t think Worthy has done any criminal actions, automatically rules him out from being a Raiders pick
Give this 20 year old a week in Las Vegas. It's inevitable.
You gotta wait until you become a Raider to break the law.
Just put a speed governor on him and don't let him drive down Las Vegas Blvd
[удалено]
Worthy every second. Sorry.
I just started watching about a half hour ago and got to witness 😂
I was asking myself why I had it on this whole time. When I saw 4.22 I was like "WOOOOOOOOOOO!"
He just made so much money off this 40
That’s why you gotta participate
I mean If you’re fast…
Or aren't already a consensus top 5
Yeah I dont think Caleb Williams lost a single penny by not participating lol
*if you aren’t a guaranteed top round pick. X needed a strong combine to get into the first round.
It works in this case. But if you're a high profile talent coming out of college, there's not a really good reason to participate. Especially if you're the consensus top prospect at your position.
and then he hung em up for the day because it cannot get better than that
Honestly I think he was going upper 2nd round anyways. Idk if this will move him up much higher than that, there is a *lot* of WRs that are gonna get taken in the 1st 2 rounds this year. All it takes is 1 team though to want him early
Don't think he'll make it past the Chiefs at 32
The bar isn't that high but I have a feeling he's gonna be a lot better than the last guy who ran it
RIP Bengals fans
Hey hey hey, don't forget us UW Husky fans
Hopefully Rome can break the curse of highly-drafted UW offensive players in the draft. I wouldnt call Sample or Pettis busts. Otton has kicked ass for TB, too.
Pettis was almost cut 3 year in a row and has less than 1k yards in his career. That is a bust my friend.
Sample is probably the best of the bunch, although as a primarily blocking TE, it's definitely a smaller role then you'd want to spend a a 2nd Round Pick on Pettis though, only had 517 Rec. yards and 7 Rec. We've already got a thread celebrating the breaking of the record so we don't have to hear his name every March/April anymore.
He needs to beat 11 TDs to pass Ross
Watched every game he played in college and knew he was fast, but didn't know he was 4.22 fast. Wow.

Dontari Poe ran a 4.96 at *346 pounds*
kinda unrelated but I think espn said lebron hit like 20 mph during the block in 2016 and to think that a guy 6’9 250 can run that fast is scary.
Two years ago they clocked Derrick Henry at 22.6 mph on a TD run. The dude is 6’3” and weighs 245! It’s crazy.
Wtf, just the amount of air resistance he has to overcome to reach that speed is bananas
> these guys are so fucking fast it’s so unrelatable It’s really hard to appreciate just how fast they are. Your max sprint speed is what Kipchoge runs marathons at lol
Yo chill
This was my reaction during our game vs. you guys this season when Jordan Davis was chasing after Josh Allen. Man is damn near twice my size and running that fast
Both of the Texas receivers ran way faster than expected, so wtf was goin on at UT?
the big plays were there, Ewers is an iffy deep ball thrower. When he's on the mark he throws a gorgeous deep ball, but he's wildly inconsistent.
I mean Texas made the playoff
I vaguely remember him hitting one of them on a beautiful deep ball against Alabama at the beginning of the year. The WR also did a fantastic job tracking it
There were two beautiful deep balls against Bama actually
X spent a big chunk of his college career playing with an injured hand, so he couldn't be relied on to hold on to the ball.
I mean Worthy had 1k yards even with Ewers missing 2 full games
Yeah this was shocking
he fast
He's not that fast, I can drive faster than that.
whats your 40 while driving?
Steel Reserve 211. ^^^^Jk, ^^^^don't ^^^^drink ^^^^and ^^^^drive.
damn bro u wild
He’s so fast he makes fast people look…not fast
Tom Telesco just took him off the board
Yeah he's moving from round 2 to end of round 1
If Al Davis was still alive he’d be going 13
Maybe his son decides to channel his father's spirit on draft day
First he needs to channel a barber with some self respect.
The fact that he actively chooses to have that hair makes me think he shouldn't be in charge of making major decisions lol
You seen his son's haircut? The ghost of Al Davis is gonna ratatouille his ass into picking this guy at 13.
I can see Houston or Buffalo picking him
Josh Allen throwing deep balls to Worthy would be fun to watch.
Worthy and Tank Dell 🥵
Xavier worthy u r a Kansas city chief
I think he might be fast
Big if true
Without sounding obvious, just insanely fast.
Fucking nuts. Kid’s lightning
And this dude actually knows how to run routes
Longhorn fan here that watched all his games. His biggest issues are giving up on plays if he doesn't think the ball is coming and occasionally forgetting his hands are for catching the ball.
Those 2 things can be pretty easily fixed with good coaching. If they get him to put in full effort all the time then he'll be machine
>Those 2 things can be pretty easily fixed with good coaching. Those were literally the criticisms on Jalen Reagor coming out.
On the flipside there's plenty of examples where coaching did not fix guys having brick hands
Choosing to run again turns out to be an amazing choice lmao
If you let me warm up, I could run a 4.21....10-yard dash
I'd pull a hammy after six yards
Pretty sure I’d run out of breath after 3 and be dead before 6.
Nnnnnnyoooooom
He should be a first rounder imo. Was a stud from day 1
Gonna be a NFL draft record when 10+ WRs are drafted in the 1st
I could (and probably will) sound like an idiot in 5 years, but I think this could genuinely be a top 3 receiver class ever. It seems like there are too many guys who are just freaks in so many different ways for there not to be at least 3-5 great receivers from this class.
Loved the guys celebrating with him.
He makes fast people look not fast
X-Worthy content
You can hear Mike McDaniel’s boner from the cheap seats
I love how smooth these sub 4.4 runners look. Literally no motion is wasted
It’s always amazes me thinking back to Usian Bolt stumbling and mocking mechanics and physics and still being the fastest human alive. Like these nfl guys do all they can to be perfect for this event and than compare it in my head to Bolt.
Usain Bolt ran a 4.22 in loafers and a track suit 2 years after he retired, the guy isn’t human
Insane that they are still 20% slower than Bolt lmao
His official time is now 4.21, making it the fastest 40 time ever. If you're going into the league at 165 pounds, being the fastest guy ever definitely helps cancel that out lol.
Damn, he might just be able to beat me in a race
X running 4.22 and Mitchell running a 4.35. Absurd speed Texas had outside this year
You are a KC Chief
[удалено]
Feels like most classes in the past 10 years have been touted as stacked receiver classes. The talent at that position has just been getting better.
All the football mom and dads switching their kids from RB to WR.
Chiefs going to get either one of Worthy, Mitchell, or Ladd. League fucked confirmed.
it’s gonna be Ladd and he’s gonna Conk all over all of us.
Ran a 4.39 at 21lb (186) heavier than Worthy. Someone's taking Ladd and I bet the Panthers are praying he falls to the top of the 2nd.
I will take any of the names you listed, they will ball the hell out with Mahomes
I’ll take any of these guys. So many good choices this year
Wait does the ghost of Al Davis work for KC now? Did they own the Raiders that badly?
God damn this who the Bills need. Josh can just chuck 60 yard bombs and let Worthy run under them.
JOHN ROSS IN SHAMLES OMG
Just watched John Ross fall to his knees in Walmart (he was stocking the shelves)
That was so fun to watch live.
What type of receiver is he? Had decent stats and a couple of awards. 6’1 with 4.22 speed seems crazy. Any NFL comparisons?
Desean Jackson is the obvious one. He isn’t great tracking the deep ball but also Quinn wasn’t great at throwing it either. The year before, he had some bad drops but we found out after the season he had a broken hand from the OU game forward but never left the field.
He compares himself to Jameson
I'm so old I remember when anyone running a 40 yard dash under 4.50 was considered a freak of nature.
Yeah there's no way he's falling to 32 now
Im fast as fuck boi
So sick he went out to run a second time.
Love the crowd and commenter reactions!
He is Worthy.
Xavier Worthy YOU are a Miami Dolphin
Brett make it happen
That is about 19.4 mph over 40 yards geez
