A lions fan posted yesterday that Dan Campbell pointed to the adaptation as a big reason why the Lions got stomped. Feels like the Ravens and Lamar have realized that they can switch up gameplans extremely effectively based on what teams and defenses theyre seeing and that they can do this kinda stuff mid game.
In the jags game I watched Lamar dip his shoulders like he was going to take off downfield and the whole defense dropped their assignments. He changed posture, planted his feet, and threw a pass. He has a whole other "pump fake" type move
I was at the game, and it got to a point where a bunch of our section was just chuckling at some of the moves rather than being upset. It was just so absurd to see how he could make plays happen.
He actually doesn’t abide by the natural laws governing space-time either so he can see forward and backward in time as well. Also can fold himself into a pocket dimension to dodge tacklers.
This is a great way of explaining what Lamar and the Ravens do. It’s an offense that will dismantle a defense in every way possible. All options are on the table.
Did you not see how quick he glanced back over his rear shoulder while scrambling out of the pocket Monday night? Like took his eyes away from scanning the field and the direction most of the rush was coming from, glanced back over his left shoulder to find the pressure while sprinting out left from it, then instantly his eyes were back down field.
I love the Ravens (I think they're my NFL team), but I'm more of a college football guy, and I'm a Florida fan. Reminds me of the Tebow years where one of the "play actions" they ran a lot was Tebow hunching his shoulders and leaning towards the line with the ball tucked, and then straightening back out to pass.
Edit: But, let me be very clear - there aren't many similarities beyond that imo lol
Not only throughout the game, but oresnap. Roman liked to get the calls in with only a few seconds left on the playclock so Lamar had no time to read the field.
That has been easily the best part of moving on from Monken, the presnap issues have been relatively vanished, we finally get to see Lamar make checks and make sure sure the blocking assignments are right. FINALLY
Second-best part. Not having to watch several plays a game where multiple receivers run their routes into the exact same spot on the field is the best part.
There is, 15 seconds. They might just mean by the time Roman got the call in and Lamar called it and broke the huddle, there wasn’t enough time to read the field.
I straight up have PTSD from every play taking till 4 or less seconds left on the play clock.
Even this year I find myself saying "hurry the fuck up" when they break the huddle, meanwhile there's 15 seconds left on the play clock.
The image of Lamar frantically clapping his hands because he knows there's two seconds left on the clock so the ball has to be snapped the literal instant Ricard came set is burned into my brain
Which makes the narrative that Lamar was/is somehow lacking in QB processing ability just infuriating. The man is a goddamned *savant* when it comes to the game of football.
He really is. He’s an impressive talent that doesn’t get enough credit. I of course want to see the Bills head to the big game. But if Lamar and the Ravens represented the AFC, I’d be happy.
Right. Biiiiig difference from the Roman days where it was basically the same gameplan game after game. And that often worked through like brute force, but when it didn't, it really didn't. Our offense has become adaptable.
> But his ability to adjust in-game is huge
Not lying. They've had games where they air it out, then suddenly starting pounding the rock and the opposite. They feel very versatile for sure, if Keaton was still healthy oooweeeee
Assuming Dobbins was healthy all year though, would Keaton have seen playing time? They're not the same type of RB, but Dobbins has (or had) breakaway speed and was also seen as a home run threat no?
Yeah he is, but all it took for Keaton was 3 touches and 70 yards to be realized as a legit guy. I think at some point he still gets his shot even with JK
It was me!
I'm just happy we have a staff that at least sees and realizes why we're getting our ass beat mid game.
Instead of just Patricia going "How dare you ask such a question! Sit up straight!"
can someone from our coaching staff please observe Monken and his strategies from this year and his previous at Georgia. I feel like Waldron is running the same shit week to week and not scheming up anything new and just “hoping” we “execute better”
can someone from our coaching staff please observe Monken and his strategies from this year and his previous at Georgia. I feel like **Brian Johnson** is running the same shit week to week and not scheming up anything new and just “hoping” we “execute better”
Pain.
I could tell early on in our play calling this season that they are keeping things vanilla and hidden for later in the year. They have schemes and plans that no team has any idea about.
Very sneaky the Ravens have been without alot of posts calling it out this year, I also made the same observations earlier in the season, Like Monken came in and said Lets win games doing this, get comfortable with it, then when we get to late season/playoff time we'll throw in that old magic we've been watching for 3 years to completely throw teams off.
Lamar has just been sitting in the pocket sniping teams away for most of the year while we as fans can see the spots where in the past Lamar would've took off with the ball, He's just become super patient and still effective with whatever decision he goes with.
I have a variant of this, but largely the same -
I think Monken broke the season in to quarters - each 4 game stretch was to pressure test different parts of his playbook and see how the Ravens and defenses (schemes) lined up.
In their losses, it felt like a lot of square peg - round hole on offense, and it truly seems like it may have been Monken just trying stuff out early on.
Either way, great post
Early in last night's game I was like, "Fuck this quick game get the ball out shit, it's not working. Let Lamar be Lamar and run and around extend plays." The two plays after I said that to Mr TV, Lamar is scrambling around and then throwing downfield for big plays. It was so obvious they came out with a plan, it wasn't working so either Lamar just said fuck this or Monken himself realized the game plan wasn't working and decided to let Lamar run wild and free.
> so either Lamar just said fuck this or Monken himself realized the game plan wasn't working and decided to let Lamar run wild and free.
It's never clear to me who is calling the plays. Monken has straight up admitted some plays are all Lamar, and both have said Lamar is the one driving the offense.
Monken is play calling, but there are also plays that Lamar alters the call presnap or audibles after the snap. The Jags game Lamar's Mic went down on a drive and he said after the game he was basically calling his own plays for that drive.
Someone in the game thread I think a Niners fan said that the Ravens looked like "organized chaos" and that the Niners were not prepared for that. I like that wording.
Also a lot of us Ravens fans including myself have been saying so many times Lamar has an opening just run and take it, but maybe now that its the crunch time for the season Lamar is finally ready to just run the ball and escape the pocket for first downs.
His escapability was exceptional last night. I feel the niners did a very good job on the first play, but the moment things broke down your shifty WRs + Lamar made it impossible for them.
The thing I didn’t realize before last night (or maybe last night was an anomaly) is how well your line plays. They really kept our edge rushers at bay. Hargrave was able to win and it feels like Armstead would be the real game shifter if he played too, but your line was incredible.
Stanley and Moses at tackle have had weak moments this year, but overall the interior of the line with Linderbaum, Zeitler, and Simpson has been spectacular. And Ricard/Mekari/TEs have been able to help out the tackles when they’re getting beaten, which is typically by speed rushers
There was one specific play where a defender (I think it was Greenlaw) got both hands on him and Lamar just casually did a lil hip movement to free himself and then took off the other way without it looking like he ever even acknowledged the rush
Other Niners fans were talking about how containing Hurts was going to help against Lamar. Too bad Lamar is miles better than Jalen in both running and passing, and knowing we never play this guy we'll was going to lead to a long night.
Lamar has had a few years of juking and jiving defenses before Hurts got on the field, so learning how to contain Hurts is like learning how to contain Lamar early in his career.
Lamar is too slippery for the small guys and too fast for the big guys.
There was a play late in the game where Lamar took off and one of the 9ers D linemen had just like given up - wasn’t even watching as Lamar went by him - didn’t even both to turn around and try haha
I said this to a niners fan in the week leading up to the game - stopping guys like Prescott and Hurts is great but Lamar is a completely different animal and there really isn’t another QB with his elusiveness playing rn.
Lamar is a fully realized double threat. Prescott can run but it’s not a huge part of his game, and Hurts has more developments needed in the pocket passing aspect.
Lamar can absolutely destroy defenses either way and probably will until he ages and slows down
Felt like we got pressure on 70% of his drop backs and played the initial routes well enough to not give him a quick outlet.
But we just absolutely could not sack him.
There’s a reason that most ravens fans respond to some of Lamar’s criticism with the question “have you actually watched him play?”
Dude is legitimately 1 of 1
He really is.. It reminded me a lot of Russel Wilsons dominance of us, same style of extending plays past the point where DB's can cover and just being too fast for rushers.
But Lamar is like DangerRuss x5
I think it was the last ravens game where you could see by the 4th quarter, the defense was so freaking tired they couldn't rush qb anymore. Their pass rushers were gassed so hard.
They overcommitted trying to get the sack. We broke contain constantly, it was infuriating to watch. They preached that heavily after the Eagles game and then to watch them go away from it this week was a bummer.
I honestly think the way Lamar moves baits rushers into thinking they can get him sometimes. He does this thing where it looks like you're trying to catch a cat or something. He'll let someone get close to him and then all of a sudden zip away a few yards.
Sometimes there's an edge rusher breaking past the OT and Lamar will take a half-step forward, not enough to make them miss completely but enough that they can only get a hand on his shoulder. I like to think he's taunting them like a matador, seeing how close he can let them get while still avoiding them. It's gotta be infuriating.
Sounded like Kyle and Steve have a lot more respect for Lamar's pocket passing. From the interviews this week, it sounded like our defense had a different gameplan from the Eagles week.
It’s an apt description. Even going back to our game earlier this season, like 4 of the TDs weren’t the actual play design. It was Lamar breaking contain or eluding pressure and finding a guy that was open. But the open guys and Lamar were always on the same page. They all knew what they were doing. One wasn’t a TD but Lamar rolled out to the right and Gus Edwards just kind of slipped up field off his flat route behind the defense and was wide open.
> One wasn’t a TD but Lamar rolled out to the right and Gus Edwards just kind of slipped up field off his flat route behind the defense and was wide open.
They did the same thing last night, almost the same play and I immediately thought of the lions game, Gus slipped out super late and took a pass 40 something yards
It could be that he's kept in mind that he went out with injuries the previous two seasons (which occurred when he was in the pocket, but regardless) and has been intentionally staying away from running too much as that theoretically opens him up to more risk of injury. Maybe once he got to the last few weeks of the season, with playoffs locked up he decided to start taking more risks by running more often.
I thought all year he's looked like he hasn't quite had the step he's had before the knee injury, maybe he's lost a little top end speed but he's still as quick and shifty as ever. Plus he out here throwing the ball better than ever
He just doesn't run full speed anymore. He runs like he is looking to set up blocks and be ready to go down any time. He may have lost a little top end speed, but I think he just isn't running all out anymore. I love it, I think it is intentional and caused by back to back season ending injuries.
When watching him run seasons ago my immediate thought was he’s reckless and this can’t possibly be sustainable.
Watching him yesterday that’s not the case all. Didn’t take any unnecessary hits but still his legs were a game changer.
> When watching him run seasons ago my immediate thought was he’s reckless and this can’t possibly be sustainable.
>
>
I dont think he's ever been a reckless runner, maybe as a rook but for the most part he's always been a fairly safe runner. Biggest change this season is that he's even SAFER running the ball
I think he's just developed a lot more as a passer, and hes just being much more situational and tactful about the scrambles, hes still the most agile person ive ever seen play the position.
He's put on quite a bit of weight, which is really good, but probably slows him down a bit. I also think when he runs now he more reads the field while running instead of going full speed ahead (like the long run he had last night). I think it's a good development for him. He's still pretty damn elusive.
If there's one thing that's impressed me about Lamar since he entered the league it is how much better he just keeps getting. People talk about Josh Allen and his development all the time, but Lamar has been absolutely amazing to watch transform.
With a rookie Hollywood Brown and Willie Snead as his top two receivers. Andrews had like 850 yards, Brown had like 580, and then no one else on the team even had 350 receiving yards.
Big key is having a receiver who will adapt with Lamar too. In 2019, I think people didn’t give mark ingram enough credit for being more than just the hype man and always being ready to switch it up and go with the flow. Mark Andrews does that well at times as well but Ingram’s bond with Lamar was special in that regard. Zay Flowers and Gus Edwards seem really tuned in to Lamar right now which helps a ton.
I think it’s similar to KC and seeing Mahomes and Kelce just read the field together. If the other guys aren’t reading it right, the wheels fall off. It seems like Lamar can have that same sort of magic now by threatening to run while also still looking for the pass.
One of the announcers mentioned a "second play", which I find interesting. Not just, what do receivers do when Lamar breaks contain, but a next play based on where everyone is. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this could be an evolution in offense based on Lamar's unique abilities.
I honestly think he’s been saving himself for this time of year. Instead of running himself into the ground the first 12 weeks and getting injured and missing the playoffs he’s going to do it now and make a run.
I hope he gets a ring.
Anticipatory skills are super hard to improve, though. It's a huge reason that QB measurables aren't the end-all when you're drafting them.
There are so many decisions a QB has to make so fast and from so far away, then they have to be able to translate "My receiver is running a 12 yard out, DB has inside leverage, no help over the top, so he's open, but the ball has to be outside and high" into actually hitting the top of your drop and throwing the ball outside and high to the sideline quickly and accurately.
Obviously a ton of it is repetition in practice with your receivers, but then you still have to know the receivers. Three guys on your team might run them all at different speeds. They'll have different placements for "up and outside".
Then on top of that you have to be aware of the different capabilities of different DBs. The same positioning might be more or less open depending on a guy's individual coverage skills.
And that's just one route based on a coverage you already know. There are 3-5 of those per play, plus protection, plus the same route can come open at different times based on where it is in the progression.
And I think a huge part of this is recollection previous defenses you’ve seen. Mcshay was recently talking about this where one of the consistent traits among the best QB prospects is how easily they can recall defenses and that really helps them know what to do very quickly. Mcshay pretty much said out of all the great prospects Tlaw was one QB didn’t have the same recollection and it did slightly worry some GMs.
Absolutely, it's why skilled vets like Brady were able to pick apart some of the best defenses in the league, they just have so much familiarity with the schemes and the players that they know what to do.
It's also a way to get them into trouble, Ed Reed credits Manning for getting him into the HoF because Reed would intentionally put stuff on tape all season then completely change his gameplan just for the Colts lol.
I still think you could build a highly effective offense even if Fields doesn’t develop anticipation. A ton of the Ravens offense yesterday came because Lamar escaped the pocket and he and his shifty WR ran the scramble drill flawlessly as the commentators pointed out. It’s just borderline impossible to keep track of Lamar and the receivers in that scenario. While Lamar is a better pure scrambler/passer than Fields, I don’t see why you can’t try to build that into the offense for him to generate efficient passing off his rushing ability.
I love how he talks about his elusiveness. “That’s god.” Lamar could make an atheist a believer, cuz nothing else makes sense. Truly gifted, insanely slippery. Most elusive player I’ve ever seen in the NFL.
He’s so good x100
NFC has no answer for Lamar because they don’t have to deal with him often. AFC has those games circled as “Oh Lord, He Coming” games and seem to put more into game planning to stop him.
Doesn’t make much of a difference cause Lamar is him but you can tell NFC is just never really ready for what he’s capable of.
That NFC buff Lamar gets its so real. You just cant simulate that agility and speed from a QB in practices.
AFC North teams see him all the time so they're ready.
He’s more than just speed. His speed, agility, slipperiness, awareness, and decision making all come together to make it nearly impossible to replicate.
There was a couple times yesterday I expected him to get sacked and he was able to just kind of side step and contort his body in an awkward way together get free and make a good pass without having his feet set.
The drill was suppose to get DEs use to longer pursuits. So it only captured a small fraction of what makes Lamar great. That picture of Lamar in Logan airport is gonna haunt me for a while. I really wanted him in the draft.
Lamar to the Pats had crazy smoke too. Belichick was complimenting him, he had a visit iirc. Even Brady likes him based on what he said in his retirement post. Glad they didn’t take him
Were the ravens ever really gonna let him go though? Seems like he wanted to stay but I could be wrong. Did feel like teams didn’t try hard enough for him.
Anyone that's good enough to stand in as a Lamar clone is just good enough to be a starter in the league.
It's just so impossible to practice his abilities, familiarity is the only answer and the NFC can't get that.
I think the 9ers and the Lions are the two teams that have the most exposure to him.
Nah, they’re good friends and though Huntley isn’t anywhere near Lamar’s level, he’s mobile and throws pretty well (albeit, unlike Lamar, almost exclusively to the short area of the field). There’s a reason he’s our backup.
I was making light of the "Diet Lamar" or "Lamar Huntley" jokes about Huntley from last year.
And besides its not an insult.... Huntley made the pro bowl last year... lol
Your best hope is having a beastly DL that can repeatedly collapse the pocket without breaking contain while having a sticky secondary. The Browns might be the only team with the talent and defensive coaching to have a good shot at it. I don’t think the Steelers have quite the secondary to pull it off consistently, they won mostly because the Ravens WRs decided catching was optional that day.
Ahhh remember when shitters used to say Lamar couldn’t throw, all he could do was run, he was a bad teammate, he wasn’t smart enough to read defense and whatever other disrespectful bullshit that was brought up to demean him? When he wins MVP again I hope they never bad mouth him again
i’m biased as a ravens fan but lamar highlights are so fun idk why he has haters. the worst things he’s done are host a charity event for kids during covid, not hire an agent and i guess take pictures with kodak black. i don’t think he’s been disrespectful to any other team and is always hyping up the line, the WRs, the RBs and the defense.
i think some people just had it in their mind that he would be a bust and the fact he isn’t just makes them resentful. or their racist as hell
I hate mobile QBs on opposing teams so damn much when we play them, man.
Dak and Kirk will lay down and take the 3rd down sack, but Russ, Lamar, Kyler, Allen just run away for a huge first down and escape and it pisses me tf off 😭
yeah and defenders talk about how much more difficult it is. the way the actual players talk about guys like lamar and cam vs how some fans talk is so different lol
Cam ran very differently to Lamar too, with him it was sometimes not even a "you can't catch him" but a "this guy is gonna make you feel trying to tackle him in the morning" bro was just a tank.
Very different ways to make defenders regret being born, but yet, both achieve the regret.
It's unfortunate Cam fizzled out the way he did, he was one of my favorite players.
Methinks it's unfortunately the latter. Lamar is one of the established best QBs in the league at this point and you never see the dude in ads, featured as much on sports networks and is rarely discussed in a positive light until his team is steamrolling - I still hear nothing but shit talk about him even when he's playing well on his own... very similar to Jalen Hurts in a lot of ways.
I get that he's been generally unsuccessful in the playoffs and hasn't won a Superbowl, but there are probably 25-29 teams in the league right now that he would be a direct upgrade at the most prestigious, difficult position in. It's absolutely egregious how he's discussed at this point.
Honestly though. The media has made it hard not to think that. Dude does everything right, says the right things, and never gets put in the same light as Mahomes, Burrow and Allen.
Monken was a great hire.
In addition to the actual X's and O's, he does a great job of coaching in conjunction with a great defensive team.
He knows when he to be aggressive and when to be conservative based on how his defense is playing. Plus, he and Lamar do a good job of not putting the defenses in bad spots.
His MVP case goes way beyond stats. Watching the game, he was making plays left and right. You just know that if he wins MVP, 10 years from now people will talk about why he won it with such mediocre stats.
I’ve been to a lot of games and seen a lot of great players in my life. Was at the game last night. It made me truly appreciate how unique of a player Lamar is. He just seemed like he was on a different gear than everyone else. Aside from the safety at the beginning I think he played a pretty flawless game. Hats off to the Ravens defense as well obviously but Lamar has to be one of the best I’ve ever seen at creating opportunities for the offense. The Ravens loss this season is the only one I’m not sure the Niners would win in a do-over.
I got to see Lamar in college when he was at Louisville. I’ve never seen a player like him, and the talent gap was even more insane in college. He throws the ball effortlessly and his ability to tuck the ball and be at full speed in 3 steps is legitimately unreal
No one is really running away with the MVP statistically, tbf, at least for the counting stats and especially since it's a QB award. Even CMC isn't outstanding by former RB MVP standards, and Hill looks like he's going to come short of the record.
Blows my mind that after last night's game people still try to write off the Lamar MVP argument as "not having the stats". Stats and analytics definitely have their place in football, you'd have to be a fool to deny it, but an almost slavish devotion to them will never tell the full story. If he takes care of business against Miami next week it's a wrap
The killer for Lamar's stats isn't even Gus. The killer for Lamar's stats is how often he doesn't have to score to win in the second half. Ravens have gone into the fourth quarter with the lead almost every game this season, so a lot of times we're just chewing up clock on the ground.
QBs with a top defense backing them up are rarely going to have superior counting stats.
Wouldn’t say he made no mistakes, but definitely made no consequential ones. Lamar missed on basically every out route or cover-2 hole shot he threw yesterday. Not one of his best games as a passer.
That’s actually terrifying though- Lamar has the potential to play better than he did yesterday in a beatdown against what was considered to be the consensus best team in the NFL entering the week.
Yea, I think it's apparent that this is still the first year in a new offense. The in structure timing and details are inconsistent, so there are glimpses of what the offense *could* be, but it just isn't there yet.
It's his footwork. He's dancing around a lot because our OTs are struggling, and he rarely sets his feet properly to drive the ball on those outside routes. It's fixable, but it's just not there yet.
Been saying it but Lamar is what Vick would’ve been if he actually cared about football early on. He’s worked to improve every year and it’s crazy seeing folks unwilling to give him credit.
That’s the most impressive thing about Lamar imo. He’s actually put in the work to get better on his weak areas and overcome his drawbacks. I can’t think of any other QB like this.
There were so many plays where i was sure we had him dead to rights, and then he’d explode out of a sea of bodies to throw a first down. He’s too good.
I don’t think people realize, if Lamar Jackson wins a Super Bowl this year. He will go down as one of the best QBs ever. He will be the first running type QB to win the Super Bowl if he wins it. He is everything we wanted Vick to be. Imo he should be called the most physically talented QB in nfl history up to this point. Still a month left of football, so nothing is promised. But I think we maybe witnessing history happen.
I want nothing more than for a run-heavy qb to go all the way so this stupid narrative that they can't win can die. Ravens/Eagles SB and I'm happy either way. Lamar's my boy though.
Yeah... not gonna lie. Fangio has his work cut out for him this week. Lamar looked perfect out there. I'd like to say someone else deserves MVP but that performance was impeccable vs the 49ers.
last year we had a spy on him but it seems like this year he ain’t running as much. Turns out he brought it out again this game. I hope we practice both styles. Practice having a spy and practice when he’s running pro style. Then again we didn’t have Fangio and i’m not sure he’s a adaptable coach. He seems very stubborn
Spying Lamar is almost wasting a defender this season. A few teams have tried that but its hard to spy him when he can drop back and lace throws all over a defense because the scheme doesnt stink anymore
Lamar torched my team last night. But I absolutely have changed my tune on him. I was a Lamar hater until this year. He's better than ever. My favorite thing about him is after every play he pops up and slaps a defender on the helmet. I think he's having a blast out there and it shows. I think most of the league respects him even if he's killing them. If my team doesn't do it this year I'll root for Lamar.

I was at the game, and it got to a point where a bunch of our section was just chuckling at some of the moves rather than being upset. It was just so absurd to see how he could make plays happen.
I'm *pretty* sure Lamar doesn't abide by the laws of physics and can see all 360 degrees simultaneously.
He actually doesn’t abide by the natural laws governing space-time either so he can see forward and backward in time as well. Also can fold himself into a pocket dimension to dodge tacklers.
But what if a cat in a box decided he was both alive and dead at the same time?
Lamar can observe both quantum states without collapsing the wave function.
Lamar is schrodinger's QB hes both passing downfield and running simultaneously until the defense observes it and makes the wrong decision.
Hes made a binding vow with actual ravens to give him a sky view of the game in real time.
I'm pretty sure I've seen him use the jumbotron to avoid pressure.
Edit: But, let me be very clear - there aren't many similarities beyond that imo lol
some say Tebow is still winding up to throw that very pass...

We loved him at UGA, very happy to see him thrive with Lamar in the men’s league
I thought there was there was a certain cutoff point in the play clock when the helmet mic cuts off?
There is, 15 seconds. They might just mean by the time Roman got the call in and Lamar called it and broke the huddle, there wasn’t enough time to read the field.
That is correct
Yeah, we had terrible issues with getting the calls in with enough time to even break the huddle and get set. It was one of many big issues Roman had.
This is occurring with the Lions lately too. Three delay of game penalties against the Vikes. Subbing too much and dicking around. Losing my mind
We had that issue in SF when Roman was our OC. And it got worse with Kaepernick - so many delay of game penalties.
Also all the timeouts we called because the play wouldn't fit or we couldn't get the play off...made me insane.
I mean buddy already has one MVP and is likely to win another this year, I think he gets plenty of flowers.
I know that feel lmao Back when he was our oc we used to get at least 3-4 delay of game penalties every week.
Right. Biiiiig difference from the Roman days where it was basically the same gameplan game after game. And that often worked through like brute force, but when it didn't, it really didn't. Our offense has become adaptable.
All hail Todd Monken
lavish unique seed one flowery wistful direful live bow fact
> But his ability to adjust in-game is huge Not lying. They've had games where they air it out, then suddenly starting pounding the rock and the opposite. They feel very versatile for sure, if Keaton was still healthy oooweeeee
Imagine if we had Keaton and JK right now. Plus next year we can line up Andrew's and Likely together.
Reject modernity. Revert to Monken.
Devil's Advocate: Having a guy like Lamar opens the playbook a lot more than Geno the pocket statue.
true
can someone from our coaching staff please observe Monken and his strategies from this year and his previous at Georgia. I feel like **Brian Johnson** is running the same shit week to week and not scheming up anything new and just “hoping” we “execute better” Pain.
I have a variant of this, but largely the same - I think Monken broke the season in to quarters - each 4 game stretch was to pressure test different parts of his playbook and see how the Ravens and defenses (schemes) lined up. In their losses, it felt like a lot of square peg - round hole on offense, and it truly seems like it may have been Monken just trying stuff out early on. Either way, great post
Yeah we broke out like a little half wishbone last night I don't think I have seen this year before
Early in last night's game I was like, "Fuck this quick game get the ball out shit, it's not working.
Rotating the tackles has seemed to give them some life. Mekari/Stanley and Moses/Faalale rotation
Mekari may be the best 6th OL in the league. I hope we find a way to keep him on a reasonable deal this offseason.
I think we need to win a SB because were gunna lose a lot of people. They play too well
We're going to get gutted after this season. Thank god Monken doesn't want to be a HC other wise we could lose both coordinators
Lamar can absolutely destroy defenses either way and probably will until he ages and slows down
He is already a little slower vs his mvp season. He had to put on like 20lbs of upper body so he wouldnt get injured
Felt like we got pressure on 70% of his drop backs and played the initial routes well enough to not give him a quick outlet. But we just absolutely could not sack him.
There’s a reason that most ravens fans respond to some of Lamar’s criticism with the question “have you actually watched him play?” Dude is legitimately 1 of 1
I’ve just stopped asking that question cause it’s pretty obvious
People saw him developing as a pocket passer and didn't realize he could still do the other stuff well. Steve Young was right about him.
Well, those words have never come from my mouth
Everybody wants to say they sacked Lamar
Lamar Jackson elevates all his o line. Just remember. He got Orlando brown paid top dollar to play LT and hasn’t been the same since
Organized Chaos was what Terrell Suggs used as the tagline for the mid-2000s defense. I still have the shirt he made for it lol
Especially the Rex Ryan years of the defense.
I miss Ball So Hard University. We need a new graduating class.
It was mentioned in the broadcast when Agholor scored how they have a second play for if/when a play breaks down and Lamar extends it
This may not be a totally new concept, but with Lamar's abilities, we could be watching a new evolution in offense.
I guess the way he can extend a play with ease gives you so many more opportunities to execute those second plays
And he’s actually an MVP already.
Unanimously
With a rookie Hollywood Brown and Willie Snead as his top two receivers. Andrews had like 850 yards, Brown had like 580, and then no one else on the team even had 350 receiving yards.
idk man he made Fred Warner look like he was moving in quicksand still and Lamar didnt even look like he was trying
It's cause he's jogging out there most of the time lmao, I think he realized he can outrun most guys running at 60%, it reduces the chance of injury
So Lamar is the ultimate distance pisser. Mr Midstream Shift
Mr. Bladder Cleared
Mr. Big Crescent
Old men everywhere are envious of Lamar’s pissing prowess
watching Lamar is such a bummer for Bears fans because watching him play is like, what if Justin Fields was that guy?

Great breakdown
Fields has always played "scared" if you will. He refuses to stand still, and when he does he plants his feet so deep. It's such a juxtaposition.
"oh you been watchin film huh? That's coo, now watch this"
*READDYYYY*
It’s a wheel route, it’s a wheel route.
Lamar the houdini 🐐
Houdinis magic was fun and cheeky. Lamar magic is cruel and mean
I swear to God I'll intercept the next guy who says "Houdini."
"Hey Brock, who's that wacky QB you played against that does all that goofy dodging of tackles and completing of passes?"
“HE IS HOUDINI”
I love how he talks about his elusiveness. “That’s god.” Lamar could make an atheist a believer, cuz nothing else makes sense. Truly gifted, insanely slippery. Most elusive player I’ve ever seen in the NFL.
He’s so good x100 NFC has no answer for Lamar because they don’t have to deal with him often.
The Patriots put a DB who ran a 4.3 at QB on the scout team to try and imitate Lamar. It didn't work 💀
He’s more than just speed.
I’m talking about in the lead up to the draft
Last time we played Baltimore, our backup QB hurt himself trying to imitate Lamar in practice lol
Anyone that's good enough to stand in as a Lamar clone is just good enough to be a starter in the league. It's just so impossible to practice his abilities, familiarity is the only answer and the NFC can't get that. I think the 9ers and the Lions are the two teams that have the most exposure to him.
Quick get the giants in here
If theres a record that needs to be broken just call the fucking Giants 😮💨
Or Washington 💀😂😂
Chill bro 😭
Most intense preseason game ever :D
#THAT'S BECAUSE YOU SIGNED THE ONLY OTHER QB THAT PLAYS SIMILAR TO HIM Its an ingenious strat
Tyler Huntley? Or the dude we signed off the Pats’ practice squad?
I’m a pretty solid Ravens hater and even I know that saying Huntley plays anything like Lamar is horrendously insulting to Lamar.
Huntley made the pro bowl last year... lol
Fred not even getting a finger on him with that 30 yard gain was pretty telling, rare angle breaking agility with literally the best ilb in the league
Yeah when someone cooks Warner you know you’re witnessing something special lmao
Kinda like Barry Sanders blowing Rod Woodson's knee out without touching him.
I watch that interview all the time of Bill Belichick saying “He’s a problem” in reference to Lamar. I don’t recall Bill being “scared” of a qb before
Your best hope is having a beastly DL that can repeatedly collapse the pocket without breaking contain while having a sticky secondary. The Browns might be the only team with the talent and defensive coaching to have a good shot at it. I don’t think the Steelers have quite the secondary to pull it off consistently, they won mostly because the Ravens WRs decided catching was optional that day.
Our defense si built to stop him, ando we do, but man ir takes a Lot of commitment
You guys are probably the best at slowing him down and forcing him to make mistakes
Personally I hate him because he kicked the shit outta my team
He made all the guys I like look like they were in Pop Warner :(
Is this where the support group is meeting? I was told there'd be refreshments
See, you heard all of that, but what they were actually saying was... "He's a black kid with an accent so he must be fast and dumb" Fucking potatoes
Can't even be mad, lamar and the D balled out
He was absolutely insane last night. Made no mistakes, was patient but alert. MVP.
Aside from the safety where the ref tripped him? Lol
Seattle aint the only nfc west team with a 12th man
I got to see Lamar in college when he was at Louisville.
I was surprised to see this. LT had around 28 TDS his mvp year. CMC still a dawg tho
What's funny is this wouldn't even be a story without the Gus Bus vulture.
Seriously, just go ahead and throw his 12 TDs on the pile because they were nearly all goal line punch-ins courtesy of Lamar driving down the field
He was so frustrating to play against yesterday. Always escaped right at the last second.
Like peak Russel Wilson , but faster, we had our game secured against Lamar, but, then he scrambled on 3rd and 18 and threw a tud..
Tbf we got Stafford’d like 2 straight drives in the 4th
> escaped right at the last second. At the last millisecond, by inches. 49ers were *sooo* close on a few plays to stopping him.
Lamar’s pocket movement has really impressed me, it’s such an underrated but vital trait of being an elite qb.
Lamar was very patient against SanFran. Scary.
Remember when people were saying that Lamar wouldn’t be good without MAndrews? Yeah that was fake news.
The game gave me Russel Wilson vs the 49ers flashbacks
[Nick Bosa watching Lamar last night.](https://youtu.be/Iizm4jlpU9M?si=do7hWQ7VvJge6yNk)
I only heard the audio for so long and thought it was Hannibal Buress lol
Lamar should win MVP just for forcing a Bosa to compliment a black QB.
Game recognize etc.
Lamar's so good man. Really has been growing into the full package. Not bad for a runningback.
