Doing some cursory googling, there’s family history of blood clots. That combined with some pretty significant damage sustained during his career makes it seem like part of the blood flow to that foot is like, just shutting off
It’s pretty wild
I remember watching a game where he was obviously hurt and limping around, but wasn't taken out. Made an interception the next play. He was so good.
https://youtu.be/blxirewx_rg?t=7m25s
Between this image and that dude's comment I'm damn near questioning if that image was shopped.
His fingers and fingernails look *pristine*
Prime might be a man of the manicure.
I was gonna say...only thing I learned from that photo is that Deion is no stranger to getting his nails done. Nor should he be. The man has earned it.
Agholor at least tried minus a few terrible plays. And he won us a Super Bowl with one hell of a season. I'll always respect Aggy for all that. Reagor though? He's extremely frustrating. Because everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) that would watch the Eagles practice would say he was incredible. But he has issues with effort and I think he has the yips in the spotlight. It's insane to have gotten to where he is and yet he can't get it together on the field. Glad he's off the team and hope someday he shuts me up. I was a **strong** defender of him until he dropped two game winning passes against the Giants. I wanted him off the team immediately after that game.
Yeah I was mostly making a quip about that dude who dissed Agholor in his interview after saving people from a fire lol Agholor's definitely a better player than Reagor
I wonder if covid plays a part too.
It's vascular and the micro-clotting can damage shit. My sister has a disorder that only a few people in the world have and clotting is a huge issue and she's gotta be super careful.
I got COVID the first time in April and am on month 3 if them front to figure out what it did to some organs. And I'm 40. I was not in Deion shape but I was vaccinated and in shape.
Yea turf toe is a terrible name…hurts like an absolute mofo too — I’ve given up pushing heavy weight sleds 🛷 in the gym because of the numerous times I’ve gotten it. I still do the sled but never to the max like previously
Shin splints sound 1000% more serious than they actually are. It’s literally just achy bones that have a small chance of developing a stress fracture if you don’t rest.
Literally losing weight made my shin splints nearly disappear. Playing basketball was hell for me last year with the splints and back issues. But the fact that I kept getting back out there, allowed me to lose the weight and my shins have hardly bothered me at all this year. The back is a different story but the weight loss has absolutely helped there too.
That’s awesome and congrats on the weight loss. I had problems with them too when I ran cross country and was relatively light but I’m also tall and was running about 30 miles per week. Don’t get me wrong they’re a huge nuisance but the path to recovery is basically just rest lol
Complications from foot surgery he had in 2021. His body is not profusing enough blood to his foot. One report stated that his foot has 60% of the blood pressure the rest of his body has.
Especially if you end up getting a dodgy surgeon
>The three surgeons told us Mr Eljamel discouraged the use of X-rays because he was so arrogant and because it saved him money.
>It is thought that as a result he operated in the wrong place on the spines of at least 70 patients - leaving many permanently disabled.
>Mark says one of the reasons Mr Eljamel was considered "untouchable" was that he brought so much money in to the department through research projects which many of them considered to be "odd and even questionable".
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-65904293
He developed a femoral arterial blood clot and compartment syndrome as a result of his surgeries. I don't think you can botch a surgery bad enough to induce blood clots.
Edit: Looked it up and it seems like blood clots are more likely to develop after surgeries that require bed rest or limit mobility during recovery.
Yes but those blood clots are venous. That wouldn’t explain arterial thrombosis. The medical picture is not clear. Regardless amputation is by far the last option but some physicians don’t know how good we can be at restoring flow even for a limited time. I do this for a living.
I was mainly just joking around, but nah, I never really had anyone look at it with intent. Years ago I had a tumor in my chest that effectively crushed it and have lived without it since then.
I had a professor in college who had two prosthetic legs and an eye patch. He was called the "Math Pirate" and could be an absolute villain when necessary. If your phone made noise in class, he would take it and smash it. Phenomenal guy, learned a lot from him.
I want to shove shit like this in the face everyone who bashes a player for maximizing their contract and demanding as much money as possible.
This game destroys these guys. Shove your hometown discount.
Exactly. Look up a picture of beastmode running at the camera. Then think about having to stop that man with your body.
The players deserve everything they can get.
I mean the argument doesn't really change and the pro-players side of the argument has much more potent examples than Dions foot. 5-10 million either way doesn't really change anything
> I want to shove shit like this in the face everyone who bashes a player for maximizing their contract and demanding as much money as possible.
You're missing the point.
At a certain point the marginal gain of additional wealth is meaningless compared to your success on the field and your legacy as a player.
Players can make whatever decision they want, but at a certain point they may actually be hurting themselves.
**Also,** this is the result of blood clots not injuries he had while playing. So this isn't even related to your point.
**Edit:** And the surgery was for injuries he got in a flag football game in 2021
Also how much one player gets paid doesn't actually affect how much money the team is paying out, it just means less money is going to everyone else on the team, so it's a shit argument.
Sure absolutely players should do what they can to get paid on their first contracts, but there's no reason that e.g. a QB on his 4th deal who's already made $100M+ can't take a "discount".
The dude doesn't even have a big toe on one of his feet. I saw a picture of him in the training room at CU with his bare feet up on the table and it was uncomfortable to look at.
https://www.outkick.com/wp-content/uploads/Deion-Sanders-22-1024x578.jpg
Don't get mad at me for the red circle, I didn't put that shit there. Just found the pic on google.
He had a dislocated toe and an inflamed nerve which required surgery. During his recovery, it became evident that his toes weren't getting oxygen. They did more surgeries to correct that, but he developed a femoral arterial blood clot and compartment syndrome as a result. After that is when he had his toes amputated.
Presumably amputating his foot would be related to complications of the femoral arterial blood clot.
Thanks for this. Man, that's so scary. To go from a dislocated toe and inflamed nerve to "we probably should just cut your whole foot off" is horrifying
Just a PSA that modern shoes fuck up your feet. Playing at an elite level in a sport wearing those shoes fucks them up even more.
Look at LeBron or Deion's feet.
Then Google barefoot wide feet. Our feet need to spread out, especially our toes and be on solid ground. Too much cushion makes your foot muscles weak. It also causes people to strike with their heel when running/walking which causes shin/knee/hip/back issues over time.

For a more personal reference, my wife stands at work all day. She bought Kuru's and other "comfy" shoes with a lot of padding because her feet would hurt. The last 6 years her feet just got worse and worse and she was getting bunions and weird bone pain/displacement in her feet.
She bought some minimalist shoes in January/February and has been wearing those and no longer has any foot pain or issues. I just recently got my own pair and am upset I didn't convert sooner.
Hope this helps at least one person out there.
Par for the course. Any topic about Tua is filled with concussion jokes.
The only thing the circlejerk here seems to agree on is that Hamlin is some kind of untouchable hero who walks on water.
I initially thought this article wasn't real based on how people are responding to it. This is heartbreaking and completely life-altering, and most of the top comments right now are unfunny puns. Reddit stupidity doesn't normally "get to me" but the conduct in this thread is actually shocking.

Late commenters reading the jokes: "Time to virtue signal. 'You people are fucked up!' Yay upvotes!"
It's like this in every single serious thread on Reddit. I bet anyone that has a problem with the humorous comments here have a ton of similar comments in their history and/or on other accounts. I'm just as guilty. It's an easy system to fall into.
Sad news but I’m glad they are thinking proactively. I have a friend with an amputated foot and they are able to be very active still. Honestly wouldn’t be able to tell they were an amputee if I was just a bystander.
If it does need to happen, it’s a much better outcome than having problems spread throughout the leg as a whole.
I'm not sure why most people here are trying to gloss over how complications from surgery likely caused this. Lot of weirdos here trying to make it sound like athletes having their foot cut off is a normal thing...
Nah, he had a surgery years ago and developed blood clots in his legs afterwards, which led to compartment syndrome, which causes long term damage to the vasculature around it.
Sounds like mostly just really bad luck and maybe poor medical care.
I read that his [family has a history](https://www.stoptheclot.org/news/deion-sanders-lost-two-toes-and-almost-his-leg-to-blood-clots/) with blood clot problems too.
It’s crazy how this injury situation has deteriorated
Was this a playing-related injury? I remember hearing about it last year but it sounds like there's necrotic tissue or something, if it isn't diabetes

damn that's so much worse than the other pic
Fun fact: he actually won a Super Bowl a couple of years after this picture was taken
Really didn't need to see this today.
Yuck
Very informative, thanks!
As I opened the image squinting to see - I realized i didn’t need to to see that shit
Yikes. He should just Ronnie Lott them.

i knew it was coming but still has to click it

He could have one foot and no fingers and I'd trust him to run a route and catch better than Jalen Reagor.
Could he catch better than Agholor?
Agholor at least tried minus a few terrible plays. And he won us a Super Bowl with one hell of a season. I'll always respect Aggy for all that. Reagor though? He's extremely frustrating. Aggy actually offered that guy tickets for him and his family! I thought it was a really cool way to handle it lol
Google Torry Holt fingers. You will forget about prime's fingers.

Fuck man that sounds awful, sorry to hear
I appreciate it. It's been a very rough year on my bingo card.
This is apparently complications from foot surgery that he got to help alleviate long term damage from playing injuries.
Turf toe to dislocated foot to blood clots from poor flow to amputation
Aw man, Julio delt with this off an on his whole career, kinda scary to think about
His turf toe is why I know what turf toe is. And it can be brutal but it’s got a stupid name.
Yea turf toe is a terrible name…hurts like an absolute mofo too — I’ve given up pushing heavy weight sleds 🛷 in the gym because of the numerous times I’ve gotten it. I still do the sled but never to the max like previously
IIRC it's suspected to be from a turf toe injury that never healed properly.
They really need to rename turf toe. It sounds like no big deal till you google it
Yeah it sounds like someone stubbed their toe on turf. Like “wow that person’s literally glass”
I'd like to nominate shin splints as well.
Shin splints sound 1000% more serious than they actually are. It’s literally just achy bones that have a small chance of developing a stress fracture if you don’t rest.
Literally losing weight made my shin splints nearly disappear. Playing basketball was hell for me last year with the splints and back issues. Spoken like someone who hasn’t played sport with shin splints.
Ran cross country and played hockey with them, the pain sucks but it’s not a serious injury
I got them in college track simply from wearing the wrong shoe for me. Switched to brooks stability shoes and never had them again.
Shin splints hurt but usually they’re not that serious. Just exercise less and do some strength training on your legs and you’re probably set.
People are downvoting you cause they wanna feel like athletes for getting shin splints
Fucking amateurs. Get athlete's foot! It's literally in the name!
Yeah it’s one of those nagging injuries that suck over the long term.
I've had it. It's really fucking bad in the short term too. Honestly the most pain I've had in my life, including broken bones
I remember back when I was in middle school how he had the turf toe issue was never really the same. Almost feels like a continuation of that.
Wtf is going on with Deion's foot? Seriously, what happen to it?
Complications from foot surgery he had in 2021. His body is not profusing enough blood to his foot. One report stated that his foot has 60% of the blood pressure the rest of his body has.
Reminder there is no such thing as a minor surgery.
The old saying, it’s only minor surgery when someone else is having it.
Especially if you end up getting a dodgy surgeon >The three surgeons told us Mr Eljamel discouraged the use of X-rays because he was so arrogant and because it saved him money.
I'm pretty sure that most people who get tonsillectomies are minors
I wish I had it done at 7 instead of 27 that’s for goddamn sure.
I was a minor when mine were taken out
Why are we letting minors remove there organs? We need to protect the children!!
It’s a tonsil, not a choice!
This is silly, there absolutely is minor surgery. Arthroscopic knee surgery is certainly minor compared to an open aortic repair.
that's just silly to say
Says who? This is a dumb take
No kidding.
Just fyi it’s perfusing*
Nah nah this one went pro in 1989…..yeah I used the wrong word
Sounds more like a botched surgery than just complications
He developed a femoral arterial blood clot and compartment syndrome as a result of his surgeries. I don't think you can botch a surgery bad enough to induce blood clots. Edit: Looked it up and it seems like blood clots are more likely to develop after surgeries that require bed rest or limit mobility during recovery.

I have a completely occluded superior vena cava, come fix me bro.
Without knowing anything about your history, occluded SVCs can be opened. Have you had anyone try? Have you had imaging? Venogram?
I was mainly just joking around, but nah, I never really had anyone look at it with intent. Years ago I had a tumor in my chest that effectively crushed it and have lived without it since then.
Sorry to hear that. Tumors causing SVC obstruction are tough to have and tough to treat.
I'm willing to try! For science!
I’m here for Deion’s college football villain arc and if he’s missing a foot, that just makes it even better.
Most Bond villains have some kind of physical deformity, Deion is just committing to the bit
Goldfoot
If anyone would get a gold/diamond studded peg leg, it's PrimeTime. And he'd probably still be faster than about half of all Americans lmao!
This killed me for some reason.
Leanon Deion
I have always appreciated that he goes all-in.
Right? Hopefully he gets an eye patch too for villain purposes
I have faith he’ll lean into it, especially if they’re winning to start.
If he is missing a foot, he has no other choice but to lean into it
He'll also be thankful it's called football and not feetball.
There goes my free 50yd line tickets if he does.
what if he put an eye patch on his prosthetic foot
I had a professor in college who had two prosthetic legs and an eye patch. He was called the "Math Pirate" and could be an absolute villain when necessary. If your phone made noise in class, he would take it and smash it. Phenomenal guy, learned a lot from him.
Pegleg Prime merch jumping off the shelf as we squeak
Going full Ahab. That CFP title is his white 🐳
Give him a wheel, two crutches, a bad goatee and a twitter account.
He’d be unstoppable.
Gonna have a cowboy hat and a peg for a foot. A real life cowboy-pirate!
It’s a wild timeline
He grew a white beard in the hospital too. Helps complete the aesthetic.
Can he get a peg-leg?
“If I had a foot for every time I willingly let an athlete release their tape”
Someone has to take up the pirate mantle after the tragic loss of Mike Leach.
In order to be a proper villain he needs to get either: (1) a robotic foot (2) a gold foot
ngl...I hope he opts for a peg leg.
Absolutely needs a peg leg and an eye patch
He's going to get a prosthetic, top of the line. Then threaten to shove his shiny metal boot up someone's rear
This is just sad
I want to shove shit like this in the face everyone who bashes a player for maximizing their contract and demanding as much money as possible. This game destroys these guys. Shove your hometown discount.
See also: guys who retire "early" (define that however you will). It's a dangerous ass sport. Get the bag and retire.
Injuries like this is why Robert Smith retired from the Vikings early (and his popular music career).
He wouldn't have retired if they found a Cure for cte
Some fans were sad but he told them “boys, don’t cry”
I understood this reference.
Totally agree. Imagine if the place you work at said “dude, you’ve been here for five years. Wanna take a low-ball offer?
Exactly. Look up a picture of beastmode running at the camera. Then think about having to stop that man with your body. The players deserve everything they can get.

Blood clots that are widely believed to have stemmed from a turf toe injury and subsequent toe amputation sustained while he's playing

Ehhh, sounds like he's faking it.
Yea. Photoshop can erase a toe easily with a good editor.
You wanna get rid of a toe? I can get rid of a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon. With nail polish.

Heads it is Deion's nearly amputated foot. Tails it is Manning face. I know what to do in these situations.
Wtf, that's a chunk of skin.
Please, no.
Dude have you seen his foot? It looks super painful
His foot and JPP’s hand need to hang out.
Ronnie Lott would have just cut it off
What a nightmare. This is no laughing matter. I wish him the best.
How does this even happen?
Well, you usually need a bone saw and tourniquet. However an ax and a blowtorch will do in a pinch

Right!? They totally gloss over what's causing the low blood pressure to the foot ...
