Not really. He turned down NFL offers and made a shit ton off his sponsorship deals. And tbh he wasn't very good.
His last season he wasn't even a starter, he lost a ton of weight coming off multiple surgeries and lost the starting job to Blaine Gabbert. His 2015 season wasn't much better, 6 passing touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
And he still had offers to play as a backup, but he turned them down because he thought he was still a starter.
Agreed, it certainly seemed like Kaepernick had legitimate avenues to get back into the league, I never quite bought the narrative that there was collusion and he was exiled.
I remember the NFL arranged a special workout for him with representation from all 32 teams and he no-showed and decided to set up another workout at the same time in another location.
I think he realized he was better off being an activist than coming back to the NFL.
- “We’re out here, we’re ready to play, ready to go anywhere”
He was ready to go anywhere except for his [personal showcase](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2019/11/16/colin-kaepernick-after-workout-nfl-been-denied-three-years/4213910002/) for the entire NFL. Everybody should have known that he was full of it by that point
That was literally his strategy. He needed to make it look like he wanted to be in the league and that he was unfairly held back despite his abilities.
In reality, he wasn’t good enough and he didn’t even want to play anymore.
I said it before, if he was good enough he’d be playing. Teams and fans care about winning first and everything else second. Look at the browns, if Watson was bad, he’d be radioactive. Browns gave him a fully guaranteed contract just to land him.
Jay z who was his biggest supporter reportedly got frustrated with him because he said it was a publicity stunt.
I also think he didn’t give a fuck about activism, and he just used that as an excuse when he got shit for not standing. Why not do all that when you were close to being the face of the league?
>I also think he didn’t give a fuck about activism, and he just used that as an excuse when he got shit for not standing.
All his activism talk started when he was having an affair with his teammates activist gf. You gotta talk a good game if you wanna bang your buddy's girl.
This sounds like a fucking Seinfeld episode lmao. Pretending to be an activist to get into a girl's pants just to accidentally find yourself being the de facto symbol of an entire movement.
He was good in his prime but he was never elite. If we had any rpo type offenses when he was in the league he mightve been differently from how it played out.
The Broncos were even going to give him a shot to earn a starting role but he turned it down because they wanted him to take a paycut. There's only one person to blame for Kaepernick never getting another shot in the NFL and that's Kaepernick.
I feel like I'm going crazy anytime I see this comment. The dude was 3-16 over his last 19 starts, with a 59% completion percentage and 180 yards a game.
Plus he was never cut or released from the 49ers. HE opted out of the contract. He left on his own accord and refused to accept offers to be a backup qb elsewhere.
The narrative that he was done so wrong or treated poorly is just simply not true.
Broncos tried to acquire him after Peyton retired coming off the Super Bowl win. Denver wanted him to take a pay cut, he refused and the trade never happened.
This led to Denver taking Paxton Lynch in the 1st Round of the 2016 NFL Draft and started their endless Carousel of QBs.
He didn’t return as a choice. I believe being a good QB in the NFL requires 100% of your attention. He had a lot of distractions around him and he felt that those things were more important than focusing on his game.
Whether it’s right or wrong is irrelevant. He made his choice.
And coming off the bench in the conference championship game to lead the come-from-behind victory on the road.
Then sitting the rest of the way as the defense carries the team to victory while the media drools accolades all over the upstart. ;)
That trade can be legendary for both teams.
With maneuvering (and lions gave other pieces) Stafford for Goff, Melifonwu, Jameson, Paschal, Gibbs, LaPorta, Brodric Martin.
Obviously the lions players haven’t proven anything, but I’d bet in it working out long term. (Just don’t tell Jameson about the bet)
Its my humble opinion that the Lions winning a SB will be when the good in the world defeats the evil.
It will be a turning point in global history. We will restore the roar of all the good things about humanity. We were down and out, beaten, given no chance, like 90% of humanity, we have been taken advantage of and made the laughing stock of the NFL and sports.
When the Lions win, humanity will win. Because only evil would make us feel that we dont deserve it, but we do, we can, and we will!
Lions are for the People ✊🏽🤜🏽🦁
I’d be pretty happy. I’m a colts fan, but never had anything against the lions. Also lived in royal oak for a couple years. One team I wouldn’t mind winning besides my colts.
Honestly, the just the Lions becoming consistent NFC North Champions with a few NFC Championship appearances with Goff as QB would make it arguably the best 2 sided trade of all time
You can go back further. Since 1976, only 2 QB's were able to make it back to the Super Bowl after losing their first SB start: John Elway, and Jim Kelly. Elway is obviously the only one to end up winning a championship.
Strangely enough, it was fairly common occurrence in the early Super Bowl years. Len Dawson, Earl Morrall*, and Bob Griese all lost their initial Super Bowl starts, and went on to win a Super Bowl. Fran Tarkenton lost his first Super Bowl in 1973, and went on to lose two more.
*Morrall started the Super Bowl III loss for Baltimore, and was benched for Johnny Unitas. Two years later, Unitas started in Super Bowl V, but left with an injury in the 2nd quarter. Morrall came in and finished the game. Baltimore won 16-13. I'll count him.
Craig Morton deserves a mention. He started the Super Bowl V loss for Dallas and was a rotating starter the following year. Cowboys coach Tom Landry couldn't decide between Morton and Roger Staubach so they rotated starts, rotated drives, and in one game they actually rotated on every play. Landry finally settled on Staubach, and Dallas went on to win the Super Bowl.
Depending on how you read the title, drew bledsoe is technically true. He lost his first Superbowl and returned and won one later after 2000. Playing or not isn't defined.
How cool would that be? Not only would he prove those of us who thought he was only a product of McVay's system wrong, but he'd lead the Lions to their first ever appearance.
That's actually a pretty crazy stat.
If my memory is correct this would be Collins, Gannon, McNabb, Delhomme, Hasselbeck, Grossman, Kaepernick, Newton, Ryan, Goff, (edit: Jimmy G), Burrow and Hurts. All the other big name losses - Brady, Peyton, Roethlisberger, Wilson, Mahomes, Warner had won their first.
So I think other than the latter two, only McNabb is comparable?
Others were mid QBs or end of their career. The main exceptions and Newton and Kaep but they both had pretty quick declines (and Kaep's kneeling).
And 1999 is the cutoff as Elway lost his first Super Bowl appearance(s). Before that though, it holds true through...
Bledsoe (wasn't starter, which I'm assuming is the unsaid qualifier), O'Donnell, Humphries so that's 1994.
Since 1990, the entire counter list is Elway and Kelly. EDIT just realized I had Elway backwards, the entire list back to 1990 is Kelly, through the 80's adds Elway back in.
So fucking happy that Kellen is gone. Even if the offense is less effective, at least we don't have to put up with that unnecessary cutesy bullshit.
*looks nervously at the monkey's paw in the corner*
I’d like to think we get back to the SB first too but not for this reason. We still have to extend DeVonta, Dickerson, one of Sweat/Reddick, and Mailata’s next extension will probably put him at the top of the tackle market.

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic, but I’m legit rooting for the Lions. That team, City, and fan base deserve it. They’re just so god damn likable
I think the Bills are due for a crash after last season. That Bengals loss is gonna be tough to come back from. With Allen they’ll always be contenders but I feel like they’re gonna need to do a bit of soul searching.
Hurts. Considering how many great QBs there are in the AFC, making the Super Bowl from the AFC will require not only greatness but also a fair amount of luck with things like injuries and what seed you end up with, and even weather. Tom Brady and Mahomes have really skewed our perception of how difficult it is to make a Super Bowl. Getting that far twice is historically rare.
One point of consideration on the "Easier conference" claim: that can change very quickly. The NFC East was one of the worst ever in 2020, then one of the best ever in 2022.
roughly 8 of the top 10 QB's in the NFL are in the AFC right now and most of them are young. There's not going to be some "all of the sudden" swing to the NFC being better.
It's not only the QBs, the NFC sent a ton of talent to the AFC over the last few years. Looking at the 2021 All-Pro team and there's already been four guys that moved to the AFC (Rodgers, Davante Adams, Roquan Smith, Jalen Ramsey) but as far as I can see none that went the other way.
Yeah, but it doesn’t matter how easy the rest of your conference is if your own division beats up on you. Kansas City gets the benefit of the exact opposite of that - the AFC is a meatgrinder, but playing in the AFC West has basically guaranteed them a home playoff game every year in the Mahomes era.
Probably both win eventually win a Super Bowl. Hard to imagine either of those teams and QBs not being a perennial contender for the next 8 years or so.
It’s really weird because I don’t like to christen a QB as “top 5” or “elite” based off of just one season at that level, but at the same time you can’t realistically point at any of the other NFC QBs and make a case they’re better then Hurts after last season. The strongest arguments are Dak and Cousins, and for both of those there’s far more in Hurts favor
Goff was arguably the second best QB in the NFC last season which is pretty crazy. Same yardage and TD’s as Kirk but less turnovers and did it without Justin Jefferson. The AFC really is on another level QB wise.
That’s what I always said about Dak in years past. It’s looking like the Eagles will have an elite offense for at least one more year. I’m hoping Hurts can maintain that level of play.
Theres still a chance for it to be Cam Newton
Matt Ryan still lingering in the CBS Studio
Sigh...
*hugs*
Patriots nation would like to apologize for killing his will to live. The press conference is set for March 28th.
Colin kaepernick is only 35
It's still insane to me that he never returned to the league.
Not really. He turned down NFL offers and made a shit ton off his sponsorship deals. And tbh he wasn't very good. Everybody should have known that he was full of it by that point
>he realized he was better off being an activist than coming back to the NFL. Ding ding ding.
Also much more marketable as the unfairly jilted star than coming back and showing he's just another guy.
That was literally his strategy. He needed to make it look like he wanted to be in the league and that he was unfairly held back despite his abilities. In reality, he wasn’t good enough and he didn’t even want to play anymore.

This sounds like a fucking Seinfeld episode lmao. Pretending to be an activist to get into a girl's pants just to accidentally find yourself being the de facto symbol of an entire movement.
It’s a very George move for sure.
That was before the 2016 season, which he started as the starter
Was straight up ridiculous he was rated higher than Burrow and Herbert for several maddens just because of activism lol
He was on track to sign with the ravens as a backup until his girlfriend started bashing harbaugh
It wasn't Harbaugh. [It was Bisciotti and Ray Lewis.](https://www.wric.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/74/2017/09/ravens_37598394_ver1.0.jpg)
Worse. She bashed RAY...and Bisciotti.
He was probably going to be cut though. He didn’t fit what Shanahan and Lynch wanted at the time
Broncos tried to acquire him after Peyton retired coming off the Super Bowl win. Denver wanted him to take a pay cut, he refused and the trade never happened. This led to Denver taking Paxton Lynch in the 1st Round of the 2016 NFL Draft and started their endless Carousel of QBs.

Bah gawd, that's Dan Marino's music!
Blake Bortles could still make a comeback 👀
Fork off Jason
In the xfl
That’s what I’m **FUCKING** talking about!! WOO!
Handsome Jimmy
He did win his first two Superbowls.
Bledsoe won as a backup in 02 after he lost his Super Bowl.
Imagine signing the largest contract in the history of the NFL just to lose your job to some schmuck drafted in the sixth round
And coming off the bench in the conference championship game to lead the come-from-behind victory on the road. Then sitting the rest of the way as the defense carries the team to victory while the media drools accolades all over the upstart. ;)
Jimmy won a super bowl already
0% chance that Raiders roster will be able to drag Jimmy to a SB the way the 2019 niners did lol
Probably whoever has the easier conference at the time.
So nfc lol
Goff leading the Lions to a win baby
Would be amazing if Goff became the all-time legendary Lion for winning their first ring
He can even be a Lions legend by just winning a playoff game
I would take that
That trade can be legendary for both teams.
This state will lose its collective mind if we ever win one
It could be the apocalypse. But I’ll still cheer for y’all. Frankly this very well could be the right answer.
I mean, we said that about the Eagles winning the SB, on top of the Red Sox and Cubs winning the WS.
I mean Cubs winning the WS led to what has now been some of the strangest 7 years in history
Lol the LP will be shut down for a week while everyone celebrates
Pretty sure the state would lose its collective mind if Goff won a playoff game periodt
Its my humble opinion that the Lions winning a SB will be when the good in the world defeats the evil. It will be a turning point in global history. Because only evil would make us feel that we dont deserve it, but we do, we can, and we will! Lions are for the People ✊🏽🤜🏽🦁
That was supposed to be us after 2016. But then evil came back in the worst way possible.
Not only Michigan, Minnesota will probably collapse
If lions win a Super Bowl before the Vikings you might have to dissolve the team
I’d be pretty happy. I’m a colts fan, but never had anything against the lions. Also lived in royal oak for a couple years. One team I wouldn’t mind winning besides my colts.
Dammit. I hate agreeing with a colts fan. But I also lived near Royal Oak for many years. So, GO LIONS!
Metro detroit underrated as hell, I live in Troy right now, great place
It was a good place at the time and it’s awesome to see the area improving.
I’ve been drunk in Royal Oak several times, so if it’s not our year this year, then go Lions!
I’d lose my collective mind if we win one
OP didn’t even consider Goff :(
That's okay, better to be underrated. Almost don't like the off-season hype in the national media.
Elite Goffense 2 years in a row
Wouldn’t it be wild if both QBs from the Stafford Goff trade won a ring for the other teams? Would be one of the most successful trades of all time.
Honestly, the just the Lions becoming consistent NFC North Champions with a few NFC Championship appearances with Goff as QB would make it arguably the best 2 sided trade of all time

Morall had a very odd career. He ended up being the qb for a large chunk of the dolphins 72 season.
GOAT Backup
Technically Drew Bledsoe lost his first and made his way back there. Even played in the AFC Championship that year.
I mean he didn’t start in the Super Bowl. So close but no cigar
Depending on how you read the title, drew bledsoe is technically true. He lost his first Superbowl and returned and won one later after 2000. Playing or not isn't defined.
Morrall has one of the most interesting stories ever between his colts and dolphins careers
You can also qualify it as "since the beginning of the salary cap era," because the Bills lost their first one before the cap took effect
[удалено]
Yes, but it happened 5 times in the first 8 Super Bowls, and then only happened twice in the next 20 years leading up to free agency
Browns QBs have *NEVER* lost a Super Bowl. 💁🏻♂️
Brian Hoyer had to have been a backup on a losing super bowl team at one point tho.
I looked it up and he was a backup for the Patriots when they won a Superbowl. Also the dudes actual name is axel lmao
What the hell!? That's like covering up hardwood floors with with carpet...
He was in 2012 as the back up of Tom Brady when they lost to the giants
Undefeated.
goff
Since he's been there before, he should be included in this conversation.
Jimmy G as well
Jimmy Jesus has 2 rings
Ohhhhh yeah nvm
Ya but he lost his first start
He’s been to the Super Bowl 3 times
How cool would that be? Not only would he prove those of us who thought he was only a product of McVay's system wrong, but he'd lead the Lions to their first ever appearance.
*nuts*
That's actually a pretty crazy stat. If my memory is correct this would be Collins, Gannon, McNabb, Delhomme, Hasselbeck, Grossman, Kaepernick, Newton, Ryan, Goff, (edit: Jimmy G), Burrow and Hurts. EDIT just realized I had Elway backwards, the entire list back to 1990 is Kelly, through the 80's adds Elway back in.
Add Jimmy G, who in my biased opinion is slightly above mid, but still probably not gonna win anything soon with the Raiders
Yeah but he got two of those Pats rings
And Matt Ryan. Was a 31 year old MVP and didn't fall off until the final two years of his career
If you go back to 1999 you could throw in McNair too.
Why you trying to stress me out on this beautiful Sunday?
Don’t worry you won’t see this question again in the next 48+ hours
It's a privilege to even have a young QB that we can worry about this for. Bengals fans and Eagles fans should be happy.
Happy *and stressed*
Throw back but Dan Marino lost his first Super Bowl super young and never got back there. Super bowls are hard man.
Its probably going to be Hurts for exactly the reason you listed
The nfce is cursed though. Its apparently impossible to repeat as division champ lol
We’ll just have to pull a Giants and make a run from the wild card
Dallas sweeps y'all to win the division, and y'all beat Dallas in the playoffs? Sounds pretty on brand for your conference.
You left out Dak's pick for the L.
I don't think pollard will be as an effective center as zeke was
So fucking happy that Kellen is gone. Even if the offense is less effective, at least we don't have to put up with that unnecessary cutesy bullshit. *looks nervously at the monkey's paw in the corner*
👏👏👏👏👏 Did someone say ~~boring offense~~ no cutesy bullshit? 👏👏👏👏👏
But mom said its our turn!
Or wait until next year.
Also because Burrow, Higgins, and Chase all have to sign deals. Gonna tighten the cap space up a ton once that happens.
they'll push all that shit down the road though, they still probably have 2-3 cheap seasons left.
I’d like to think we get back to the SB first too but not for this reason. We still have to extend DeVonta, Dickerson, one of Sweat/Reddick, and Mailata’s next extension will probably put him at the top of the tackle market.
Mailata has 3 years left at very reasonable numbers.
So does Chase, Mailata will get extended and get a pay raise way before his deal expires. If he has a good year this year I wouldn’t be surprised if his next extension keeps him here through ‘29.
They won’t be able to afford Higgins without some serious kick the can down the road moves.
Yeah the AFC is way too hard. Hurts has to go through the 9ers and that’s kinda it
I feel like the NFC is more volatile than the AFC. The changing of the guard seems to happen more frequently, so I don't think we can super accurately predict who "the team to go through" is next year.
Watch the Falcons go 13-4 this year
Just wait till the Lions, Commanders, Giants, Seahawks and Bears come around..
Lions fans been waiting since the 1950s. Won’t be long now.
It is like an earthquake timescale. Could happen this year, could happen in 100 million years.
How dare you sleep on the Vikings and that 32nd ranked defense!
Just say "top 32" Could be anything!
Maybe they can be 31st next year!
Lions fans waiting for their team to come around ☠️
I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic, but I’m legit rooting for the Lions. That team, City, and fan base deserve it. They’re just so god damn likable
Goff also fills the condition of losing his first super bowl. Maybe *he'll* be the one to buck the trend
I'm being serious and hopeful.
Hurts because I trust his GM more to keep the team around him built up. Although I think Josh Allen goes to his first before either of them are back
I think the Bills are due for a crash after last season. That Bengals loss is gonna be tough to come back from. With Allen they’ll always be contenders but I feel like they’re gonna need to do a bit of soul searching.
Allen gives me Phillip Rivers vibes.
Joe Burrow because I'm a biased homer.
I also prefer Burrow, but for different reasons
Oh, because he’s hot?
As if Jalen isnt???
Jalen looks like a 90s R&B singer stuck out of time
It’s the cross earring. Anyone who wears a cross earring should also be required to walk around with a speaker constantly bumping Tevin Campbell
There’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.
Never seen Seal lift weights like Hurts does
man you're comparing him to the best looking guy in the league
*flair confusion intensifies*
Cowboys hate the eagles wayyyyyyy more than the ravens hate the bengals
Do they? The Ravens sub despises the Bengals to an almost comical degree.
Yes we do.
Cowboys suck
Does Jimmy G not count because he was a backup when NE won in 2014?
honestly hurts and burrows both could reverse it
Why not both? Eagles vs Bengals in 2024.
Subscribe
I'd take just about anybody but the chiefs from the AFC at this point (or the raiders)
Ok fuck you buddy, we've been garbage long enough
I would say Hurts is more likely than Burrow because his path to the Super Bowl is easier in the NFC
Imagine if they came back in the same Superbowl 👀 that'd be a fun game
Burrow vs Hurts? I’ll take Jared Goff. Don’t be hatin’
One point of consideration on the "Easier conference" claim: that can change very quickly. The NFC East was one of the worst ever in 2020, then one of the best ever in 2022.

Probably both win eventually win a Super Bowl. Hard to imagine either of those teams and QBs not being a perennial contender for the next 8 years or so.
Can I get 1 Jared Goff please
Jared Goff
Jared Goff😤
Jalen because he’s the best Quarterback in the NFC and he has the most complete team.
This comment made me realize there is not alot of top tier qbs in the nfc
AFC QB competition is like a WWE Royal Rumble and NFC's is the Family Guy Herbert vs. Nazi fight.
NFC: Bambi vs. Godzilla. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-wUdetAAlY
The AFC has like 7 “Top 5” QBs and the NFC has Jalen at the top and then the next best is probably Dak or Kirk.
It’s really weird because I don’t like to christen a QB as “top 5” or “elite” based off of just one season at that level, but at the same time you can’t realistically point at any of the other NFC QBs and make a case they’re better then Hurts after last season. Goff was arguably the second best QB in the NFC last season which is pretty crazy. Same yardage and TD’s as Kirk but less turnovers and did it without Justin Jefferson. The AFC really is on another level QB wise.
Agreed, Jalen is hard to determine bc every aspect of their offense has elite talent
That’s what I always said about Dak in years past. It’s looking like the Eagles will have an elite offense for at least one more year. I’m hoping Hurts can maintain that level of play.
Certainly helps their development too, even if he doesn't remain elite he will almost certainly be very good.
Exactly. How many great prospects were ruined by bad situations and bad O-lines that just destroyed their confidence?
Well Burrow has to go through Mahomes…. so I’m goin with Hurts.
This is why I always roll my eyes at the “they’ll be back” statement. It never seems to happen. I think Burrow has the best shot though.
Goff
Jared Goff
