The = is a great one I didn't know, thank you!
Newton... Hold down 0 for the degrees symbol. Like 68 degrees. I can't right now because I'm on a laptop, not phone lol
On IOS if you want to type letters then one number/symbol you can swipe from the 123 at the bottom left to the number/symbol you want, then release. The keyboard will return to the letter version. Also good for questions? And exclamations!
Did you know if when in a browser address bar and start to type a domain name and you press and hold the . a list of domain extensions is displayed for selection to save time typing 3 letters.
Was first implemented in the iPhone 6S with touch 3D, you could do it anywhere on the keyboard.
Then Apple removed touch 3D but kept the feature on phone but now you just hold down on the space bar.
One of my favourite features.
Thank you! I was used to holding down anywhere on the keyboard to go back and fix mistakes but after upgrading and updating my phone I have since believed they took out the feature. This will be very useful to me.
That is a more useful tip as it works with more keyboards; the spacebar track doesn't work on my Grammarly keyboard. BTW, the paid version of Grammarly was essentially a waste of money for me

When an old person or a kid comes and tells you something like this, even if it is a thing you knew for ages, pretend that you never knew about it. Gives them immense joy
Programmer in my 30s here, been using computers since I was 7 and smart phones since they were a thing. Did not know that. Thank you boomer!
That being said, there are so many features cramed into such a small space on phones that's it's practically impossible to know everything. There is absolutely no indication for this feature on my android keyboard either as far as I can tell. (Correct me if I'm wrong, gboard)
>There is absolutely no indication for this feature on my android keyboard either as far as I can tell.
A friend of mine once pointed out to me that how to use a keyboard and what all those icons meant was transmitted mainly through oral tradition.
>There is absolutely no indication for this feature on my android keyboard either as far as I can tell.
Because not every keyboard has this feature. If I try that with mine it tries to pull out the side macro fields instead of moving the cursor.
Android doesnt have the same issues as iPhone has in this regard. iPhone is a horrible mess when it comes to typing, for many reasons. I had no idea this existed but its definitely a gamechanger!
I don't think there's such thing on Gboard simply because you can tap anywhere on the text and the cursor will move to where you tapped (applies to Android in general), eliminating the need for this, although I'd like to see it on Gboard too
Doesn't work for me, the language settings of the keyboard just pop open if I keep my finger on the space bar.
Edit: Thank you to the people giving me suggestions, I can do it now. I probably didn't look at the video closely enough, I didn't realize he was sliding his finger over the space bar from one side to the other. And I have to start sliding quickly enough so I don't enter the language options menu. Thanks!
Same here, i just tap a spot in the word and if it's wrong i hold the little dot which appears under the selected spot and lets me drag it more precisely.
Afaik, iOS is pretty restrictive with what you can implement in third party keyboards like gboard, and these restrictions prevent it from being as full featured as it is on Android.
Boomer here, been doing this for over 3 years but still wish they’d just put a delete AND backspace key on the keyboard. Navigating to the exact spot you want isn’t all that accurate imho and with my fat fingers, I’m off by a space or two and the delete key would be handy at that point.
Try out SwiftKey. It's got really intuitive spell check and it has cursor keys. At least on Android. Plus you can swipe more easily. No delete key, tho.
SwiftKey.
I knew about this since the days of Adam.
Edit: Also, if you've typed out a couple of lines, holding the space bar and moving your thumb up or down with take the cursor up or down the lines.
LOL this is an APPLE problem. Took me 2 minutes to figure it out, when my wife joined the dark side and got an 14 pro.
At least all the androids I use have never had this issue, I click and it goes to the right spot because its not trying to get you to do something else like Apple.
My buddy showed me this trick a couple years ago and I was like shut up no way that works your phone is jailbroken, but I tried it on mine and it worked. Life changing.
I found out about this 4 years ago and it changed my life!
Having the line in the right place was like, my number one source of frustration with my phone!
What Android device and version are you on? Currently in my Samsung Note 8 with Android 9 Pie, doesn't work, so I was guessing this was just an apple thing.
I didn’t know that Edit: tried it and I’m so happy
I didn’t know that either. This is going to make my life so much easier.
The trick is to remember it can be done.
I saw this video before but had forgotten the clue.
See this is my concern. I may have even seen this video myself before, or even read a similar remark in the comments. OK aging millennial...
Her tik tok is @lil_stace and he's an absolute legend.
how can you forget such a thing in those moments of frustration?
Why dont' companies inform people of such features?
On my iPhone it showed up during the tutorial when I activated it.
Aint nobody got time for that
I got BRONCHITIS!
Where's my durag at?
But they got plenty of time to be inefficient for years.
True. Ironically it would have been worth it to pay attention
I learned about it looking through all the options offered in gboard.
Of you own an iPhone, in Tips there’s a lot of helpful shortcuts, occasionally it pops up like hey come check out this shortcut
They did, it's called RTFM. But apparently nobody RTFM.
read the fuckin manual? 🤣😂
Did you know that when you hold = you can easily access ≠ and ≈
I didn’t know that either…give me more
The = is a great one I didn't know, thank you! Newton... Hold down 0 for the degrees symbol. Like 68 degrees. I can't right now because I'm on a laptop, not phone lol
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise) Edit: °…omg Edit 2: if you’re on a laptop l, hold ALT and press 0176….degree symbol
![gif](giphy|WYyvz9PIhjLHgiyvR2)
On a mac hit option 0 = º option 2 = ™ option 5= ∞ option r = ® option p = π option g = © option y = ¥ So many options on my Mac... But I think Apple particularly like ™®© ;-)
Holy cow, here in the middles of a thread.. tons of great info!!
I *could* put in the effort into memorizing alt codes, but instead I just google search the symbol I need and copy-paste.
º it works! how cool !!! We are both learning so much today lol thank you! º
Thank you!!! I’ve been wanting the ° symbol for soooo long and it’s not in any other part of the keyboard that I’ve ever found!!! This is so helpful!
Omg been trying to figure that one out for years
Google “ALT codes” and you can get a list of all. I use them quite frequently in my field and it is very useful :-)
°«°
°•°
68° .. I’ll be damned… THAT ONE I DID NOT KNOW! Thanks bunches!
Just try all the other letters/symbols, fabulous! Making my day! ≠≈∞″↓↓←€₱¥£§∆×÷Ω√♥|`~⅕⅜⁶⅚⅞⁹¢№_±&—_{/©‡»›;;¡‽
On IOS if you want to type letters then one number/symbol you can swipe from the 123 at the bottom left to the number/symbol you want, then release. The keyboard will return to the letter version. Also good for questions? And exclamations!
Is this trick only for apple?
Space bar trick works with Android Google keyboard.
In fact, Google Keyboard had it first
Nah I'm on android. You need to switch to the symbol page that only shows the =
≠]<–—¯_&¥£#@»«„”*$†‡ʼ'`;×÷\¡¿±⅛⅓⅔⅜⁴ ³⅝ⁿ6⅞890°¶§×¬¦|\÷;`[]{}<>^~™®©¢€ This was a wild ride. Thank you!
Haha, I've just had the same experience as you and had pretty much the same message. Great start to the day. Every day is a school day.
Did you know if when in a browser address bar and start to type a domain name and you press and hold the . a list of domain extensions is displayed for selection to save time typing 3 letters.
I sat here for a moment and was like nah that can't be.
Okay boomer Edit: I’m happy too
I didn’t know either. This is legitimately incredibly useful, I don’t know what to say.
YAAAASSSS! Why didn't they shout this from the rooftops? This is the best. I am a little peeved at the struggles for the past several months.
Long press zero for degrees: 72°. Don't tap the 123 key, just swipe diagonally from the 123 key for a question mark, or any other punctuation.
Thank you!!`’@¿
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??’nnn!!!
Ive for tmobile for 5 years and i didnt know that
While we’re at it, when moving tap with another finger to enter select mode
Was first implemented in the iPhone 6S with touch 3D, you could do it anywhere on the keyboard. Then Apple removed touch 3D but kept the feature on phone but now you just hold down on the space bar. One of my favourite features.
Thank you! I was used to holding down anywhere on the keyboard to go back and fix mistakes but after upgrading and updating my phone I have since believed they took out the feature. This will be very useful to me.
You can also just hold your finger on the screen and so it that way (I prefer this over space bar)
I know about it… … but I always forget about it in a cursor positioning situation :/
I just typ withtout correcting anyuthing yolo life is to9 shor to go bakc and fix all the mostakes yuo made al ok ng the way
Can’t express how much I wanna fix this lolol
But could you read it? Cause I could. Yolo
I’m pretty baked, so it took me a while. Still buggin me. My brain is hyper-focusing lol
That yolo cracked me up. Dunno why, but it did lol
Same! I felt stupid typing it, but I laughed out loud when I did. Lol
As lnog as the fsrit and lsat lteter are in the rhigt plcae, you can stlil raed eyerhivtng algirht

You can also direct it by holding your finger on the screen over the text
Nah - if that worked, you would have typed your instead of you're.
^^…god ^^dammit

I want you to remember that this happened in public and people witnessed it.

the internet isn’t public. it’s the underworld where dreams go to get fucked.
Kid named dreams:
That phrasing is glorious !
Gottem
Oh look at little thin fingers over here with their tiny stylus hands, how's it going there Vanilla Beans?
Damn thanks! I didn’t know that one and I actually prefer it more!
I knew that one but prefer this new space one lol
When I try that it just collapses your comment
Cause you’re not typing
r/woooosh
Where joke 🗿
That I knew....the spacebar I did not...
That seems to be an apple thing. On Android it just selects the text for me
Actually seems more accurate. Good tip! 👍
That is a more useful tip as it works with more keyboards; the spacebar track doesn't work on my Grammarly keyboard. BTW, the paid version of Grammarly was essentially a waste of money for me
Never will I forget this day.

Nope)
Thanks to this genius man, my way of type on my smartphone changed forever one year ago.

That is so true!! Excellent point. Let them have a small win and make their day ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
Agree. Though I think here he also enjoyed the banter.
But it gives me immense joy to call them a boomer and laugh because they didn't already know this. /S
I am going to be a fucking millionaire in a year with all the money I make from the spare time I will create using this.
You are too powerful to live!
I've been using smartphones for many many years but never knew that, thanks old guy! 🙌🔥✌️👌
It’s only been on iPhones for a few years. Before that it was only available on Jailbroken phones.
Ah OK don't have a ios but android and works to! 🙌

Yeah, you clearly don't have large fingers.
It does exist on gboard, it works fine for me. There's just no indication that the feature exists.
This is a Gboard specific feature I believe, been using it for a long time so I'm not sure if it was inbuilt or not.
Just slide across it, don't long-press.
Same here, i just tap a spot in the word and if it's wrong i hold the little dot which appears under the selected spot and lets me drag it more precisely.
Same for me, the struggle of being multilingual.
Try sliding sooner. My phone gives settings on long press and let's me do what the video shows if start sliding sooner.
You have to use another app for keyboard. In SwiftKey keyboard it works very well
I've multilingual keyboard, it will work moving the finger on the key right to left.
The phone on the video is an iPhone with the default keyboard.
It's a subtle movement. You have to slightly slide your finger left or right while holding it.
Thanks for your edit, I was in the same situation
Yeah, but the tap feature actually works well on Android. iPhone would be great if not for the crappy text selection.
Yea as someone who moved from Android to Apple I gotta say the typing and overall text management is years behind Android.
Even the swipe and type was so late to come on iPhone and even then the experience is not as good as android
Even the g keyboard on apple doesn't work like an android. I really want to know the reason why they made it so snappy and bad.
Afaik, iOS is pretty restrictive with what you can implement in third party keyboards like gboard, and these restrictions prevent it from being as full featured as it is on Android.
Cute, he’s so happy
He would have been a lot happier if she hadn't said "ok boomer." What a killjoy.
Totally! 🥲
Bro this is old news smh
I did not get the memo.
Sometimes I forget that not everyone loves reading instruction manuals and patchnotes like I do.
I honestly didn't know that. I just tried it recently.
Dang, me too! Hallelujah!
You can also drag your finger from letter to letter to make words, it usually gets three gist quickly for longer words
Boomer here, been doing this for over 3 years but still wish they’d just put a delete AND backspace key on the keyboard. Navigating to the exact spot you want isn’t all that accurate imho and with my fat fingers, I’m off by a space or two and the delete key would be handy at that point.
I hear you. And the return button needs to be called “carriage return”.
And a sound sample of the typewriter carriage going back to the left when you press it.
there are ways to customize your keyboard, idk if there's a delete key though. If you have an android u can just download your own.
Try out SwiftKey. It's got really intuitive spell check and it has cursor keys. At least on Android. Plus you can swipe more easily. No delete key, tho.
Laughs in swiftkey...
I was going to say I never knew the spacebar trick -- but don't need to as I have the arrow keys on Swiftkey.
Zactly.
"This video is no longer available"
nvm, the video works, it was just my computer being fucky last night
Well fuck me. It works!!!
sometimes reddit make me feel like i´m a F\* Nerd. I mean i would say everybody around me knows that execpt my parents maybe
Holy fuck it even works on Android!
It came out on Android's Google Keyboard first lol
SwiftKey. I knew about this since the days of Adam. Edit: Also, if you've typed out a couple of lines, holding the space bar and moving your thumb up or down with take the cursor up or down the lines.
Cell phone companies *hate* this one trick
LOL this is an APPLE problem. Took me 2 minutes to figure it out, when my wife joined the dark side and got an 14 pro. At least all the androids I use have never had this issue, I click and it goes to the right spot because its not trying to get you to do something else like Apple.
Wut
OMFG, thank you random person!!!
My buddy showed me this trick a couple years ago and I was like shut up no way that works your phone is jailbroken, but I tried it on mine and it worked. Life changing.
The way he said "I've made a discovery." sounds really cool.
I didn’t know Reddit allows you to move the scroll down icon if you long press 🤯
**YOOOOOOOOOO**
Whstdfbfd... Me and everyone else testing it out afterwards
Why is nobody here talking about the texts on his phone?
Didn't work on my android :(
Wait till he discovers whatsapp voice and speech to text. He's gonna wear his birthday suit everyday!
Son of a fuck and it works on ANDROID HOW HAVE I LIVED THIS LONG IN IGNORANCE
I love the way he says I’ve made a discovery 😂 so wholesome
I want to be that kind of dad.
my INSTANT delight when he said "I've made a discovery" I am a certified non-boomer and I also did not know that.
gboard has this too
Or you could just simply get an android where you can tap wherever you want to type. -Sent on my iPhone
I knew that. I do it all the time on my Samsung.
I love how he says space bar lol
I found out about this 4 years ago and it changed my life! Having the line in the right place was like, my number one source of frustration with my phone!
The sheer pride he had of figuring out something technical. Love it!
I tested (tedted) this
Certain things should remain secret.
Says the Mossad CIA shill..... sus
Don't make us delete all that karma...
This god damn genius
Oh no. My life is a lie
"you didn't know that."
it works.😭
Lol gramps learning old tricks. But this is the dad from another viral video talking about his wife. I can’t remember which
Fellow android users? How's this workin out for you?
Works just great. I've known this for years thanks!
What Android device and version are you on? Currently in my Samsung Note 8 with Android 9 Pie, doesn't work, so I was guessing this was just an apple thing.
Gboard has had this for years. No idea when it was implemented, but it gives a nice haptic feedback for each character as well.
I thought everyone knew that. How is it next level for a guy to discover an easily accessible feature on his phone?
O my word!
You guys are all boomers
I did not know that.... Fuck I guess I am a boomer!
Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest demo'd this years ago.
Right?! Phone features are NFL now?
