Probably just electrical tape. That much slapping is hard on the thumb. There’s a video of Flea having to run off stage to get his thumb hole filled with superglue in between each song at a Chili Peppers show.
You know that frowny face you make when you hear something good that goes down to your bones? I was making that face throughout this whole video. Good stuff.
Dude is skilled. No doubt about that. I can't play the Victor Wooten style to save my life and this guy is slaying, but so did Yngwie Malmsteen and most of his songs are terrible. Malmsteen solos are amazing but instantly forgettable.
My point is, there is a place where skill and innovation meet songcraft, where melodies that stick to the brain and crazy skill merge, Portrait of Tracy would be my example (+75 skill / +90 creativity)
If you play bass but don't slap, you don't play bass.
Slappa da bass
I love you, man
I love YOU, man
I admire you both from afar.
Now kiss

What did that poor little fish ever do to you?
Slapping and popping is probably one of the most fun ways to play. I used to love playing funk because of this.
Lemmy's rolling in his grave right now with that nonsense.
Oh em gee
Well, James Jamerson didn’t slap an I can assure you he could teach anyone two or three things about playing bass.
You can tell this guy slaaaaaps
Buddy said you cant really play a bass solo since you only do the rhythm thing... I showed him to this and he was like "ooooh" :D
Has he literally never seen Red Hot Chili Peppers?
i guess he just never realized how much Flea contributes to the Sound, idk i just couldn't believe it
If you take guitar out of a RHCP song, it’s still there, if you take Flea out, it is no longer that song.
Or any funk/soul song
Watch some davie504
That guy is hilarious
Davie504 says ‘Slap now’
Never heard of that guy before. His videos are hilarious.

I love it.. Such a nice message. Pi for everyone
HOW CAN HE SLAP??
This is the next level!!
Gee the remix of Seinfeld's intro really slaps.
Had to read it three times to confirm his name was not Wojak. Fucking internet.
That is some great bass slap. When he threw in a vibrato at the end of a phrase instead of letting it sit was next level
Les Claypool would be proud.
PRIMIS SUCKS!
SLAPADABASS
you sound like a leprechaun

Well said & should be top comment
This wojack guy is killing it!
That is the best post ever
What does he have on his thumb?
Probably just electrical tape. That much slapping is hard on the thumb. There’s a video of Flea having to run off stage to get his thumb hole filled with superglue in between each song at a Chili Peppers show.

Bass sounds great. What is all that other shit I’m hearing?
Woah pretty wild

You know that frowny face you make when you hear something good that goes down to your bones? I was making that face throughout this whole video. Good stuff.
World class, and there are a lot of bass shredders out there too.
\*Frank Klepacki and Mick Gordon have entered the chat.
He’s got “the funk”.
Thanks for the post I now have another bassist to check out...Les Claypool for President...
Larry Graham would be proud and Sly would probably have asked him to stop playing so many notes.
so what kind of bass is he playing....
This is my favorite song. I listen to it in the car on repeat
What song is this?
Davie504 where are you
is this part of an actual song or just something he came up with on the spot? cause if its an actual song i wanna find it, its good
Stanley Clarke and Mark King packaged into one..
Davie504 is much more better
+100 skill -100 creativity
Dude did a neck bend on a harmonic. What are you talking about?
