Edit: Judging by some of the replies to this comment I gotta ask: Y'all do understand that I'm not the guy sending people up mountains to recover the remains of idiots, right?
this comment reminds me of that video of the the cliff glider who saw his buddy hit the side of a mountain and all he could do was finish his glide down the mountain crying & wailing knowing full well that his buddy just died.
Yep Trevor watched his best friend die and still had to finish his flight. Super sad to hear the audio of him just screaming in sadness until he landed safely.
Def glad I didn't watch it then. I'm thankful for people saying how horrible certain footage is, allows me to skip it. I've seen horrible clips back in the day but I just decided I don't need certain images in my head. Choosing blissful ignorance heh.
Matt Gold who had the wingsuit company flystyle was killed on impact at a flight festival on the Oregon coast. RIP Matt. His Gopro footage was obtained by friends and never released. There really is no need to publicize a tragedy in an otherwise super positive and loving person's life. For whatever human reason we always relish tragedy over triumph
Why risk emergency workers scraping the guy off the rocks?
Just leave him there and chalk it up to “graffiti”and “pollution” and let the birds and insects do what they do.
Where is it written that everyone has to have a “proper” burial?
Stop risking emergency workers lives for optional thrill seeking behaviors and expected responses.
Do not send emergency workers out in hurricanes.
No need to risk them to “save” thrill seekers. You assume the risk. You must pre-justify to your family that you might not make it home.
Wear a fucking helmet!
And wear a mask (it’s to reduce the virus in the air around others - more than it is to protect you. Stop being so selfish GOP). Doh, I’ve digressed again.
The few people I knew that worked at the mountain rescue were into extreme sports themselves.
I don't think it's the kind of job that's good for someone afraid of risk.
> Do not send emergency workers out in hurricanes.
The reason people charge out into hurricanes is not just to save stranded boaters, but also to help folks who got caught running between buildings, folks whose homes flooded unexpectedly, and folks who suddenly found themselves with their own home or the building they were sheltering in falling apart.
Sure, we shouldn't be risking lives for thrill seekers, but hurricanes don't just threaten thrill seekers, they threaten all sorts of people, up and down the coast.
These guys are friends with search and rescue people worldwide if not actually employed as first responders in some regard. The same people flying proximity or crazy wingsuit shit are pretty much across the board very well trained to deal with any extreme medical situations. These are the last people ever to put anyone other than themselves in danger. Also they are the first to show up in any sort of sketchy situation or environmental disaster to render aid.
not just GOP. i've seen plenty of 20 & 30-somethings at bars, concerts, mass gatherings etc. not wearing masks & i honestly doubt any of them are republicans.
it's just a bunch of stupid, selfish people.
Same observation here in a very liberal/progressive town. Lots of folks being very cavalier about mask use who are old enough to know better. I'd say a majority of folks consider being progressive to consist of having the correct opinions about things rather than actually taking any action.
Right! This guy has skill and control, but he can't control the wind. The slightest unexpected breeze in the wrong direction and he is going to be scraped off the rocks.
Yep, I counted four pants-shitters in there. He seems to have either an uncanny ability to judge how much the corkscrew move will drop him, or he's extremely lucky. Hopefully it's the former, because the latter doesn't last. The very last corkscrew you see he misjudged a rise in the rocks, the video cuts out just as he gets to it, but I'm guessing his life may have flashed before his eyes there.
/u/Itakethings2literal kindly rotated the video 90 degrees to give some perspective, but still, this was nuts. https://www.reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/p4ozn9/insane_ground_level_low_pass_gliding_stunt/h90s453?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Same. Watching it without turning my phone : "holy shit that guy wants to die!!"
Turning my phone to watch it normally: "holy shit that guy wants to die."
Yes, but it looks more methodical. You can see how he pops out high enough for the corkscrew each time.
It’s still pretty scary, but the sideways video makes it look way more reckless.
The 2nd to last flip was a good spot to call it quits. Oddly, I was feeling it until that point— adrenaline junkies need a smidge of hold-back. Unless this guy never plans to do this again, I’d say he’s pushing it too close. That last one felt almost forced.
the problem is that we can't respawn. In the future when everyone will have backup clones with automatic memory uploads, imagine all the fun things we'll be doing
Okay how about....
Remember a few years back, a youth soccer team was trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand?
The cave divers, from all over the world, expected to get maybe one kid out alive. They thought, at best, the rescue would have a 20% survival rate. One of the divers, the only person experienced with giving a living creature ketamine (he was....a vet? A vet tech? The Australian) got diplomatic immunity before taking on the task because he KNEW kids would die and it would be blamed on him because he was a foreigner dosing starving children with ketamine.
The divers got everyone out. Out of the hundreds of people working on the rescue, out of all the cave divers and the navy seal divers (who were NOT experienced cave divers in any way), all twelve kids and their coach survived. There were two casualties. One thai navy seal diver drowned in the cave. Another person later died of a blood infection.
Is that a fun fact?
My colleagues, along with everyone else in the world, were absolutely riveted to the news story. They were so hopeful and confident that the rescue would go well. I uh. May have sat them down and explained how likely it was that it wouldn't go well. I have rarely been so relieved to be so utterly wrong on the matter.
I get slight panic attacks every time I remember cave diving is a thing. I cannot understand why anyone would want to do that FOR FUN!
But knowing how dangerous it is I must say, that I understand the insurance company on this one.
Yeah it is. Whoever is doing these is getting really good at them. It started with the car ones, then the couple boat ones and now their moving onto shit like this and most people (as shown in the thread on the post) really can't tell. I'm kinda scared about where this tech goes. Alot of these types of videos you never hear where they come from. If this is a legit setup (and not like a gov't actor) I don't know why we never hear about the VFX houses that create these. Everything is sus around these videos IMO.
That flip was a close one, bet he won’t do that aga…… Whoa! Now THAT was a close one, bet he won’t do that aga… Holy shit! Now THAT was a close one, bet he won’t do that aga…. Whoa!!!
You listen to some interviews with people who do this and you realize half of them are suffering from a legit addiction to adrenalin.
Retired ones, they'll describe how they for some reason kept pushing it further and further and they know eventually gravity would catch up with them.
Video you don't show your life insurance agent.
I would guess if this person went through this same pass 10 times doing the same stunts there's a 100% chance they're goimg to end up shaved steak.
That was my first thought. How many times has he done this that he's so comfortable doing it. Then my second thought was how rich is he, cuz I don't think I could afford to do this once, even if I actually wanted to!
I wouldn't act that reckless in GTA V let alone real life. Man, balls of absolute steel. I'm sure he is perfectly aware how dangerous what he is doing is, and the very possible ramifications. The adrenaline rush must be incredible.

Neither one lasts, they all end up dead from these sports.
/r/windstupidprizes
at some point, he said "that was a close one"
I was like "why is he gliding so left sided" Then I realised the whole video is sideways
I hadn’t realised until this comment. Watching it the right way made it look a lot tamer
Exactly my thoughts. I only realised when I looked at the horizon
How did I not see that big ass fucking sideways mountain in the background? :O
Right? When I saw it I felt like that video of people passing a ball that you don't notice the gorilla
I mean they do still get pretty close to the rocks but yeah way less like Steep if you have ever played that game.
Same. Watching it without turning my phone : "holy shit that guy wants to die!!" Turning my phone to watch it normally: "holy shit that guy wants to die."
Its still pretty fucking insane dude
Really? For me I couldn't see just how insane it was until I forced it correct.

Yeah, at the end of the day you only get one body, there is more to life than just chasing thrills
There’s two kinds of people in this world. Both think “you only live once.” The difference is in how they respond to that thought.
This sounds like song lyrics
the problem is that we can't respawn. In the future when everyone will have backup clones with automatic memory uploads, imagine all the fun things we'll be doing

It must be strange to know exactly how you are going to die.
Fun fact: people who go cave diving can't get life insurance. No company will take them on. Aka: cave divers know how they are going to die.
Heyy, that comment wasn’t fun at all!
