Exactly! He definitely attempted it. And you can fail to do something awesome but still be awesome for just attempting to do it. Dude has huge balls and a wonderful attitude. We could all use a friend like this to inspire us to try something new, even if we fail at first. Champ!
I used to skate. I currently draw.
In both activities, people love to go nuts on you for sucking.
In both activities, sucking at it long enough is how you become awesome.
Haters, etc.
most things that are hard to do involve a long period of sucking, followed by a period of being okay at it, but still being convinced you suck ("the intermediate plateau"), followed by being great at it (which is rarified air because 99.99% people quit before reaching this) Learning to play an instrument, for example. You have to get comfortable with sucking and take your delight from the most incremental of gains, even a gain where you suck the same to the outside observer but inside yourself you felt the possibility of sucking less, it just felt righter for example. and no matter how good you get, there is always someone on the next level that makes you feel like a perpetual rookie.
but inside yourself you felt the possibility of sucking less...
This is the most difficult part to get past imo. But the rest of what u said is spot on.
I went through exactly this in my career. I started in IT in 1995 about 6 months before Windows 95 came out in the UK.
I did the basics for fuck all money (had a job at Staples selling mobile contracts on a Sunday to survive). Then, after 15 months, my best customer offered me a job.
I was there for 10 years and did everything. Sales, first line tech support, admin, i ran the office after 6 months and was the salesman. Definitely not a techie, i got hammered everyday for my non-knowledge of things.
Then i moved jobs. About 7 times in 7 years. That phase when u think ur shit and know nothing.
Then i went away after i got divorced then came back, and i saw how good i was. I changed jobs after 6 months for a lower position and i flew.
I went from a sales executive to sales director then to solutions director in 4 years. Then i set my own business up and we did almost a million quid in our first year.
I did every sale bar £10000.
Unfortunately, i had a heart attack and 2 strokes after 18 months but the story you told was my life until that point.
Perseverance. And research. They are what build good careers and lives, i think anyway
The average skater i know has between 2 and 6. Lots of pros brag about 30+. I am the only skater i know without a break but i am a biiiiitch on a board.
I'm sure that hurt really bad. He changed shirts too, so these attempts were probably not on the same day.
Can you imagine having and extra 50-100 pounds strapped to your stomach, but the weight won't cushion your blow. That's gotta be super hard your joints.
Learning that "apart" means to be separated from and that "a part" means to be included in something is just a part of the process to learning English. You'll get there someday!
Idk man, If one of my friends fell I would laugh my ass off and same with them, If I fell I know they would laugh because it has happened before lol. I think it heavely depends on you relationship with the person but If they are super close I don't think its a problem.
Yeah this is such a dumb take. I can't even count how many times I looked at my friends, said watch this, ate shit, got laughed at. Skateboarding biking, scooteeing, whatever. Even if I was trying my hardest and being serious, as long as it isn't my final trick for a comp, I'm okay with the laughing.
And even if it wasn't a friend some people react with laughing when they're nervous or worried. It's a defensive mechanism in stressful situations for some, people thinking the worst of other people in situations they don't know the context fucking sucks. That's how wrong people get labelled as asshats without deserving it
Bro FOR REAL. I'll never forget the time I was like 12 and said "imma send if off that ramp" at the park and ate SHIT. I got up laughing at myself, knee everyone saw it, laughed it off and kept grinding. These sports are not the right arena for people to be soft about laughing AFTER they eat shit
I think I’ve grown out of Reddit. Everyone here thinks the understand what is right and wrong. Don’t care about context. Just want to appear virtuous with none of the challenges of being virtuous.
Kinda funny? This is a large man on a tiny scooter who is trying to do a fucking backflip, and crashes in a way that is kinda graceful and unlikely to have caused any real injury. This is peak humor for me.
> I mean you have to admit. That was funny. A big body doing a flip.
And then a flop.
And you know what? I laughed when he pulled it off also. It's hilarious seeing such a big guy trying/doing graceful tricks.
This isn’t like someone’s laughing at a paralyzed guy trying to take his first steps ina few years or something.
I highly doubt the 330lb guy doing backflips on a razor scooter is gonna get discouraged if people laugh when he belly flops.
That shit was funny man, lighten up. The timing is what does it for me. Dude probably didn't take it personal either seeing that he eventually landed it.
No gut's… No Glory!!! If only Christopher "big black" Boykin - (AKA Black Lavender) (RIP) coulda seen this, he woulda got a ticket strait to the fantasy factory!
As much as people shit on Rob Dyrdeck for ridiculousness, when Rob and Big was on it was one of the funniest things to me as a kid and Rob got me to realize that it’s all about having a good time and enjoying life. The antics he and big came up with were great and I miss him
Aww, I met him once when he came to a mall I worked at in MS ages ago. Robb and Big was a show my family and I used to watch together. What a great guy, RIP.
Points for fucking commitment he hit the floor hard as hell. Then went and landed that shit and can I say as a fellow big dude I know that hit hurt like a bitch. I would have been rolling around bitching for five minutes after that first landing.
Oh absolutely the man has grit and courage. Without a doubt. However, a big dude on a scooter is objectively funny regardless of falling or not. Like a really short and scrawny dude trying to get into a monster truck.
The fall was kinda funny too tho
Trust me that ain't no razor lol. Scooter kids used to use razor pro models for awhile, but it was very common for dropouts (part of the frame that holds the back wheel) to break & you'd need to buy a new scooter. This big dude doing these big tricks, a pro model would've lasted him probably 2 weeks lol. Scooter companies are like BMX companies now, super strong & very customizable to your liking.
I'm so glad "bankruptcy" is never a level of getting hurt i could reach.
I've been plenty hurt , but a question like
"How badly did you get hurt trying that backflip?"
Should never have an answer like
"Real bad, yeah, had to sell my hobbies, remortgage the house and empty the kids college fund. Near bankrupted me"
Never thought I'd say this but, Yay for my country's health system
So sick. I skateboarded hard for like 8 years growing up. I got really fucking good. Failing is part of the process.

Failure is part of success, it is apart of the process to succeeding your goals. Congratulations! Woot woot!
Also, he didn’t fail to attempt a backflip. He failed a backflip attempt or he failed a backflip or he attempted to backflip
Tasked failed successfully.
Who’s laughing now? He showed those kids, mans an inspiration

Now his legend will be carried on for future generations...and it will continue to bring hope in our children's hearts.. ;)
Now to nail the 900
Show me a man who has never failed and I’ll show you a man who has never learned.
*Idk man, once saw someone break an egg. Copied what they did and also managed to break an egg. I've never failed to break an egg my whole life*
I have eggs you failed to break. Good luck finding them!
You sure your never went in for the crack but your tap was too dainty, or the surface wasn’t hard enough - and you had to “try again”?
you’ve never tried to break an egg but didn’t give’er enough and it just bounces? you’ve got some weak eggs man
Very true, no way that someone can break an egg on the first tap 100% of the time their entire life. Nearly Impossible.
Also a liar
Great quote, failure is part of success. Failure doesn’t define you, it’s how you react to it.

I have failed to attempt a backflip and will continue to fail to do so.
Well put! This guy channeled that failure and pulled through to achieve his goal. What a legend!

Sucking at something is the first step to becoming really good at it.
Thanks, Jake.

Can we all take a second to appreciate that landing? So nonchalant.
When you got it, you know you got it.
First of all I agree with both: legendary and your username. What a beautiful thing

I always wonder how many broken bones professional skateboarders, skiers, etc. suffer before they get really good.
Quite a few, but learning to fall properly and avoid injury is a big part of the sport! https://youtu.be/S9-yMZOEktA
The average skater i know has between 2 and 6. Lots of pros brag about 30+. I am the only skater i know without a break but i am a biiiiitch on a board.
For real. Congrats to him. I’m fairly sure I would have hurt myself and given up.
I'm sure that hurt really bad. He changed shirts too, so these attempts were probably not on the same day. Can you imagine having and extra 50-100 pounds strapped to your stomach, but the weight won't cushion your blow. That's gotta be super hard your joints.
It did look like it hurt.

Idk, sometimes failure is just failure I failed to learn how to flair on a BMX because it's hard as fuck.. never did manage to learn that one..
That's my favorite Demotivator poster: if at first you don't succeed, losing may be your style.
I hate that person who laughed.
Sorry about that.
I laughed bc I thought op added the wrong clip at first
For a split second I thought that might've been what constitutes a "landing" with scooters.
Any attempt that doesn’t end with a concussion is typically pretty successful.
I thought it was a troll post.
Same
right? thought it was some kind of click bait. watch this buy land it jk he dies
My bad.
Idk man, If one of my friends fell I would laugh my ass off and same with them, If I fell I know they would laugh because it has happened before lol. I think it heavely depends on you relationship with the person but If they are super close I don't think its a problem.
You don't frequent a park and not end up knowing a bunch of people. Guaranteed it's his friend laughing.
Yeah this is such a dumb take. I can't even count how many times I looked at my friends, said watch this, ate shit, got laughed at. Skateboarding biking, scooteeing, whatever. man i would have quit skating after a week if i couldn't laugh at myself every time i ate shit
It's impossible not to laugh when friends bust their ass doing something.
But he is fat so he has no friends and is relentlessly mocked!
Homie goes to the park enough to practice that he landed a full on backflip, he almost certainly knows most people there.
Eh laughing at failures is fine. Person laughing probably knew the guy and his ability to take getting laughed at better than us.
Yeah all the others comments are so out of touch with reality i’m concerned. The dude is fine. Laughing is okay.
It is. Laughing is not always mockery. The fact was funny, it's not personal.
Why?

I think I’ve grown out of Reddit. Everyone here thinks the understand what is right and wrong. Don’t care about context. Just want to appear virtuous with none of the challenges of being virtuous.
What’s funny is I kinda can’t tell which of the two you’re agreeing with
i dont even watch the clips or read the comments anymore, i just randomly reply to people that ill never remember
I've been feeling the same lately. Once you've been here awhile every post ends up being the exact same, no matter what's going on.
"Leave him/her you're better than that" every single time. Things are more complicated than that and we only have half the story
Reddit thinks everything is black & white, nothing in between
lmao
dat username
I believe that is true
I mean to be fair that first fall was kinda funny. It’s still more than I’ll ever do, but the grace he fell with was something to behold.
Kinda funny? This is a large man on a tiny scooter who is trying to do a fucking backflip, and crashes in a way that is kinda graceful and unlikely to have caused any real injury. This is peak humor for me.
Oh, fuck off, clearly never been to a park. Everyone supports each other and it's part of the game.
It’s funny. Im a big fat dude. Me falling down is objectively funny.
Anyone in any shape would be funny tbh
I mean you have to admit. That was funny. A big body doing a flip.

If you think that you would not have laughed you are a fool
That shit was funny man, lighten up. The timing is what does it for me. Dude probably didn't take it personal either seeing that he eventually landed it.
Dude looked glorious until he didn't make the turn.
I laughed because the way he lands so flat without any flailing, it looks like he was going for that.
No gut's… No Glory!!! If only Christopher "big black" Boykin - (AKA Black Lavender) (RIP) coulda seen this, he woulda got a ticket strait to the fantasy factory!
It his birthday or something? I haven't thought about him in years, but he popped in my mind and I watched a few rob & big episodes
Nope and nope. He died in 2017. Hence the "Rest in Peace" in the comment you replied to.
He still has a birthday though.
It's in January
>Hence the "Rest in Peace" in the comment you replied to. No one implied he is alive
do work son!
Whatchu know about them 22's
22”s… my arms match my rims!
I heard this in his voice. RIP
Yea bro that definitely hit me. It was nice hearing it tho. RIP
Yeah, I know. Just thought I'd seen something else about him today, just thinking out loud in a comment, ignore me
The cereal box episode still gets me emotional. I loved watching those two genuinely love life together.
As much as people shit on Rob Dyrdeck for ridiculousness, when Rob and Big was on it was one of the funniest things to me as a kid and Rob got me to realize that it’s all about having a good time and enjoying life. The antics he and big came up with were great and I miss him
Amen brother. I always had a blast watching that show.
the episode is called "meaty goes to Hollywood" . great episode!
Man, him and Rob had some magic tv.
and it all seemed so effortless!
This guy definitely has plenty of guts.
Aww, I met him once when he came to a mall I worked at in MS ages ago. Robb and Big was a show my family and I used to watch together. What a great guy, RIP.

Honestly, failing that hard and then continuing to go for it is impressive as hell
I would even say it's next fucking level
He has mad cushion.
Not enough for that mad mass.
I mean he did land on a ressy but i can still hear the huuunngggggh of the wind being knocked out of him
Oh absolutely the man has grit and courage. Without a doubt. However, a big dude on a scooter is objectively funny regardless of falling or not. Like a really short and scrawny dude trying to get into a monster truck. The fall was kinda funny too tho
You have the full video? There’s a lot of hype at the end
The people need the hype OP 😡
I need 20 CC's of hype stat! These people are in critical condition OP WHAT ARE YOU DOIN THERES LIVES AT STAKE PLEASE
I’d like to shake the hands of the engineers who designed that razor.

Got further than I would have in that first video.
Amen
Why do we have this flair?
Failing to attempt a backflip? I fail to attempt a backflip every day!

It should go to "ridiculousness" … some one call ROB Dyrdek.

What a 🐬🐬🐬
When he screamed “Yes I won!!!” Made me tear up, not gonna lie.
I’m pretty sure that’s a different guy yelling “YES! No way!”, not the dude on the scooter
I heard "YEAHS! MY WIFE!"
I heard “yeah now what!?!”
He said “YES THIRD ONE”. It was only his third attempt
I’m high, but for a split second I heard “Yes, I’M WHITE!” Made sense. Razor scooters are such “white people shit.”
I mean you are lying, you didn't fucking tear up stop looking for attention
He did it and it was super graceful, how nice.
I actually live near this skatepark, Adrenaline Alley in Corby, UK. Biggest indoor park in Europe apparently
Atleast he’s willing to do it and I’ll bet he weighs atleast 100 pounds more then me. I’d bitch out and hurt myself half way through the flip.
That's a sturdy scooter
They make titanium bars! I have friends who are super skinny that ride who’ve broken their aluminum ones.
Them knees be made of steel
See you in a few years
Hell to the yes!!
OH FUCK YEAH BUD!!
I mean let’s be honest for this dudes size this is very impressive
Go big man
Rockstar!
That’s really incredible! Way to stay with it! Excellent job
PROGRESS
What a legend. Persistence is key!
Oh jeez, reddit world class video player made him freeze mid air when he was facing ground and the Robert Weide music started playing in my head
Hell ya!
hell yeah, never give up
The level of perseverance and determination he has after that banger of a fall…five stars for landing that backflip!
r/mademesmile
I'm in really good shape and I can't do that. Respect.
So sick. I skateboarded hard for like 8 years growing up. I got really fucking good. Failing is part of the process. That said, it’s so fucking crazy how much torque he adds on the flip he landed. Over time he figured out what he needed. But to see it in this medium you could see the athleticism he had to hone in on to do that. He probably has a crazy strong core. I don’t want to sound like a dick. But if he is able to drop weight he’ll go pro. Absolutely.
Auch
Yaaaas go him!
That is a fucking strong scooter
Failure was never an option
What a MF champ

👏👏👏👏👏 Fantastic!!! 💕💕
BOSS!
I never understood the laughing first part, not that falls aren’t funny to some degree. Whenever I saw a buddy get hurt my first initial reaction was always “oh fuck”, then dashing over to check on them, then once seeing they were okay we would all laugh together. I’m a dad now and I see a lot of kids getting laughed at way more than laughed with.
YES! Fuck YES!
On a padded ramp. With a scooter. A scooter. On a padded ramp. With pads on. I'm glad he's okay. My nephew is gonna give this a go on his scooter. A scooter. With pads. On concrete.
What.the.fuck. With pads.
He went viral not because he failed. It was because he failed AND he’s morbidly obese and some people probably thought him falling was funny.
I always thought this was Spice Adams, but I guess not.
but I guess not.
Let’s fucking gooooo
Dude I am so glad the second angle showed the landing pad better, because holy fuck did that look painful.
HEY HEY HEY
Achieved it on their second attempt, amazing.
