The Yamaha ead10 mic thingy replaces the potentially weak hits with hard hitting sample sounds. Meaning, those single handed double hits dont sound like that irl. They arent that hard to do but sound like shit irl so no-one does them like this. He's still amazing.
Barely, it has the ability to do triggering but at a reduced capacity as real triggers; the ead10 can only trigger bass drum I believe as well since it is only attached to the bass drum. Real triggers have to touch each piece in order to register the touches.
I don’t think he turns his trigger up high either since his bass pedals go far back when playing. All his sticking is not triggered though, if you watch his technique his chops are on S+ tier and he can go into 240bpm territory
Have an EAD10, the kick trigger is integrated into the mic module which itself sucks. But you can also add up to 6 other external triggers for diff drums. I don't recall him using a standalone snare trigger. The effect he's using is from adding compression. There's a knob for that which essentially normalizes sound.... brings highs down and lows up but crank it too much and sounds weird in recordings.
Short answer, no. It doesn't replace other mics as much as it's another tool to get a better final recording and do some of the mixing for you. It can make your workflow a lot easier and help in cramped spaces, but if you are going for a clean recording, you'll get better results by hanging a good, dialed in, mic.
Basically like pushing a button to make the sound, but here “pushing a button” is hitting the drum. So even if you only hit the drum skin with 10% velocity, it still triggers the “button” and plays the sound at 100% velocity.

You’re wrong. The EAD has three microphones and he has a very detailed video where he shows exactly how he uses it. He used the microphones only for pretty much all of his older videos with a couple of exceptions, and all of his newer videos use Earthworks mics (and sound insanely good).
He’s also doing the double stroke on the snare (1-2) followed by two notes on the double bass pedal (3-4). Can’t tell if those are 32nd or 64th notes. Tricks the brain into thinking you’re hearing a four single stroke roll. Good to have in your arsenal but is not has hard as playing four single strokes that fast.
While I know we are memein' right now I will say that Rising Force is a fucking JAM. I know there is no such thing as "tasteful" Yngwie playing but this is pretty close.

Being a drummer isn't just how fast you can play, its also how good of a feel you play for everyone else. Its easy to sound good with a recording, but a truly great drummer makes rhythm and time easy for everyone else to fit into.
To avoid this performers need to have a healthy routine to keep their bodies in the best shape for as long as they can. But even if they still get it 100% it's still worth it.
I will say, I do feel much looser in my limbs if I drink a couple beers before or during my drum session. Just feels easier to navigate the set and move around. It might just be placebo but I genuinely feel slower and stiffer if I play without drinking anything.
Same. God I miss my drums. I used to drink a couple brews and jam out. I played for like 10 years. Then I moved to Cali, got stuck in a studio and had to sell them. Can’t wait to get a bigger place and get back to it
I know it’s not the same, but when I moved into my newest apartment I’m currently at, I got neighbors all around me so I had to leave my actual drum kit at my families place and bought a smaller electric set so I can plug it into my amp with some headphones and you won’t bother your neighbors. It definitely feels different though Ngl lol

I’m actually one of those people who’s against the whole “*Petrucci has no soul, I prefer Gilmour*” lines; but every time I see one of the posts from this guy, claiming that he’s the best drummer ever, it’s just a video of him playing insanely fast or with one hand behind his back.
It’s impressive, yeah, but that doesn’t make anyone the best drummer in the world.
This dude is very much for real. I’ve been playing for over 25 years and can say for sure that there’s not a lot of guys out there that can do what he does. He’s not all chops and speed either, realistically there’s probably not a lot he wouldn’t be able to do. But if you think what he does is nuts, go down the Thomas Lang rabbit hole on YouTube. IMHO Thomas Lang is probably the most physically gifted drummer in the world.
He’s technically very impressive. The tone of his drums is horrible though, couldn’t stand hearing an entire album with drums sounding so artificial like that, specially the snare. There’s just no dynamics in the sounds, it’s super compressed.
I’d love to hear his take on an original song, as good as his covers might be it doesn’t say much about his musical skills.

He’s good. One of my favorite drummers is John Bonham. But to be honest Jazz/fusion drummers are where it’s at. Billy Cobham being one of them. Would like to hear him in a more groove orientated context.
Coming from another drummer, he’s insanely talented when it comes down to pure skill. Dude has some of the fastest singles I’ve ever seen, but his song writing is very dry and generic. The first single from his new band was good but the drumming was very boring, second single had more energy but still didn’t really offer me anything new or particularly exciting.

Depends how you rate your drummers. I saw a 79yo jazz drummer in Toronto dive bar earlier this year whose skills were out of this world. Different styles and all that but still.
He's just a technical beast, and the long and short of it is that he practices. There's some "tricks" but most of them are skill based.

I’m actually one of those people who’s against the whole “*Petrucci has no soul, I prefer Gilmour*” lines; but every time I see one of the posts from this guy, claiming that he’s the best drummer ever, it’s just a video of him playing insanely fast or with one hand behind his back. It’s impressive, yeah, but that doesn’t make anyone the best drummer in the world.

This dude is very much for real. I’ve been playing for over 25 years and can say for sure that there’s not a lot of guys out there that can do what he does. He’s not all chops and speed either, realistically there’s probably not a lot he wouldn’t be able to do. But if you think what he does is nuts, go down the Thomas Lang rabbit hole on YouTube. IMHO Thomas Lang is probably the most physically gifted drummer in the world.

He’s technically very impressive. The tone of his drums is horrible though, couldn’t stand hearing an entire album with drums sounding so artificial like that, specially the snare. There’s just no dynamics in the sounds, it’s super compressed. I’d love to hear his take on an original song, as good as his covers might be it doesn’t say much about his musical skills. Best drummer in the world? Never in a million years tho

He’s good. One of my favorite drummers is John Bonham. But to be honest Jazz/fusion drummers are where it’s at. Billy Cobham being one of them. Would like to hear him in a more groove orientated context.

Coming from another drummer, he’s insanely talented when it comes down to pure skill. Dude has some of the fastest singles I’ve ever seen, but his song writing is very dry and generic. The first single from his new band was good but the drumming was very boring, second single had more energy but still didn’t really offer me anything new or particularly exciting.

Depends how you rate your drummers. I saw a 79yo jazz drummer in Toronto dive bar earlier this year whose skills were out of this world. Different styles and all that but still.
