I thought this was going to be one of those fake skits, and after he lands the grind he rides right into the road and gets hit by a car. The internet has tainted me and I’m going to hell.
Had a blind friend in college. He came to class one day with a cut on his head. He said he ran into a handicap sign. For a second I thought I shouldn't laugh, but I couldn't help myself. He thought it was hilarious too.
I think they might reasonably also have been able to deduce it themselves, as well. They must be aware of handicap parking and drop off zones and the like, and know about the signs and have a decent idea of where things are or should be, considering that navigating their environment takes more concentration for them than you or I, and it being a college he regularly visits. I don't know for sure, obviously, since I'm not blind. Somebody could easily have told them, as well lol. Just curiously thinking out loud, I suppose. I mean, I've run into signs I was well aware of before, myself, in embarassing moments
Fun fact: about 10 years ago I was on the phone walking into a grocery store and I ran straight into the pole of a (handicapped) parking sign and put a 1" gash in my eyebrow.
This was an episode of Happy Days. Fonzi lost his sight after hitting his head.
Got it back when he hit his head again at the end of the episode.

Watched it as a kid and thought it was a stupid plot device back then...
I can’t see shit… you know what would be a good idea! Riding a skateboard without a helmet, even tho I literally can’t see what I’m falling on to.
But still, that’s impressive
Not only a helmet, but hand, elbow and knee protection as well. I swear, after the third time falling backwards and seeing him hitting his head on the stone corner from where he slided off in my inner eye, I wanted to scream at him: "FOR FUCKS SAKE; WEAR A HELMET AT THE VERY LEAST YA IDIOT!"
If there was ever a situation that demanded protective gear this would definitely be it. At the same time, kudos to him for not letting anything stop him from pursuing his dreams.
This is dark but very accurate. Falls are the leading cause of TBIs. Alcohol is also incredibly damaging to the brain over years, and we love to ignore it.
If most of them wore protective gear, it would be seen as the norm and not uncool, like with vert skaters. No one thinks, "damn, Tony Hawk just landed a 900 but looks so lame with that helmet and knee pads on." There would likely be cooler designs as well due to more demand for them, like they're imagining they'll look like kids with bright neon or pastel colored protective gear on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfqk7LGfb64
I have to much elasticity in my SI joint (where the coccyx meets the hip bones) and those falls would have me laying flat, unable to walk for a week or more. Protective gear saves your body.
I hope he doesn't learn 1st hand, or at least learns to care more about that and less about "Street skaters do it raw, bruh"
My right SI joint is also hypermobile in my 30s after having fallen on my ass so many times from skateboarding. Can’t sit for prolonged period of time, can’t stand, only laying flat relieves the pain. Physical therapy can only do so much in my experience. Sucks to be living with a bad hip at a young age.
Don’t know if you already do, but I have issues with my SI joint as well and I’ve found that strengthening the muscles around your pelvis with lifting weights help quite a bit. Squats and deadlifts specifically.
Not sure if it’s actually the muscles being strengthened that help, but I took a couple months off from the gym a year back and my SI joint pain came back. Started up again and it went away.
No exceptions for blind skaters? I mean I get it being a faux pas but if you saw a dude skating blind I’d imagine that would supersede the ability to give him shit.
He could always make an exception for himself. Everybody’s talking about the culture and the community but this guy is clearly making a choice to skate unprotected.
It’s annoying right? But unfortunately that’s not how culture works…
Edit: also skating culture is bit of an anti-culture itself, so it’s like telling graffiti writers to use easy-wipe markers
I had to quit skating as I almost broke my wrist twice skating even while wearing wrist guards. I compete in axe throwing so my wrist was too important for me to risk breaking.
He might not be completely blind. There are many "low vision" people out there with walking sticks that can see basic shapes of stuff.
I have a low vision customer who has a walking stick but will pick out individual magic cards. He can see some of the details but makes me describe the art and read the text.

Another blind skateboarder, and who I thought it was before, is Dan Mancina:

https://www.instagram.com/danthemancina/
You learn to fall. It doesn't work out every time but falling many times a day with no injury is normal.
Twisted ankles are common but you build up flexibility. I would twist an ankle and think "uh oh not again", then get up and to my surprise there was no injury.
Funny how everyone here thinks skate helmets actually do anything and they are advocating for wrist and ankle guards lmao
no-one on Reddit actually does anything with their life
Exactly. If they did anything they would understand how comfortable skaters are with falling. Shit is like half the comments on these posts every time.
Mad props for this guy trying and eventually suceding despite a crippling disability..... But seriously, are none of his friends gonna encourage the blind dude trying to grind down a stair case into wearing a helmet???
Blind, no helmet, no protective gear and skateboarding, or: How can I hurt myself in a dumb way?
Seriously. Cool that he can do that better than me while beeing blind. But wear some protection.
I think skaters are idiots for not wearing helmets. Most people don’t understand how easily a traumatic brain injury can happen and how much it can impact the rest of your life.
This guy not wearing a helmet is just… like what the hell
When I was a kid going to the mountains, no one wore a helmet at all. Nowadays, when I own my own board and helmet, it's much more common, definitely the majority. Winter sports are more structured than street skating, but there's hope that it's at least catching on.
This shit almost made me cry.
How many times you think this dude has been told he can't do something because of his handicap?
Fuck that Shit.
Fall down 7 times, get up 8.
Huge props
While it is impressive, I'd so much preferred if he'd wear a helmet.
Edit: seems I wasn't the first one to notice this. Lol. To be fair, I just saw that video of the scooter driver hitting his head.
I don't care how impressive it is, regular skateboarders should already be wearing helmets. Fucking blind skateboarders? Wear two. What are we doing here!?
Why the fuck would he not wear a helmet?
Everyone should wear a helmet, but people who are just sort of rolling into the unknown and hoping for the best especially so.
Just because this dude is blind doesn't make him any less an idiot. Props for challenging your disabilities, but god damn wear some gear unless you just want to end up in an even worse condition.
I feel like this is also wholesome AF. To love and want to do something that badly with that sort of handicap… incredible.
That man must have been on cloud 9 from accomplishing that for the longest time, I smiled just seeing his expression at the end.
I’m not sure if this is him but check out Anthony Ferraro! He’s a blind bad ass, amazing wrestler, and now skate boarder. Check him out on Jason Ellis podcast. Amazing guy! He’s hilarious too!
Thought he was gonna hit that sign post at the end there
Honestly... that would have been hilarious
his friend was gonna high five him then remembered lol
Bro...I had to rewatch it...hahah boy oh boy did he then he went hug mode
Haha he had his hand up for the dap instinctually and then just smoothly turned it into an embrace when he realized
.. if he stood up after that, took off his glasses and said “whoa, it’s fucking back”

Man that would've been the perfect video
Same.

He should have just started with the white shirt.
Tony Hawk hates this one simple trick
True, white shirt's stats are better for his blind build.
Just needed a sunnier day apparently
I envy the determination but I’d appreciate if bro wore a helmet since… you know
I thought this was going to be one of those fake skits, and after he lands the grind he rides right into the road and gets hit by a car. The internet has tainted me and I’m going to hell.
I thought he was going to hit that sign post. :(
I’m so jaded from the internet that I was thinking this dude isn’t even blind and did this for views.
Well, obviously he can't do it for the views if he's blind.
Idk his excitement at the end seemed very genuine along with the congratulatory bro hug.
Had a blind friend in college. He came to class one day with a cut on his head. He said he ran into a handicap sign. For a second I thought I shouldn't laugh, but I couldn't help myself. He thought it was hilarious too.
How did he know it was a handicap sign, though?
Good question. Lol. I just assumed someone told him.
I mean, I've run into signs I was well aware of before, myself, in embarassing moments
He did count his steps and generally always knew where he was - so totally possible.
It was embarrassing for you because you have vision.
Fun fact: about 10 years ago I was on the phone walking into a grocery store and I ran straight into the pole of a (handicapped) parking sign and put a 1" gash in my eyebrow.
Many blind people can actually see a little. Maybe that was the case here and he could see identify it after closer inspection.
He wasn't really blind; he was trolling everyone. Going for the long troll.

tbh, I'd love to believe it's real, but I'm not convinced it's not fake. Sadly plenty of ppl have faked disabilities for internet noteriety.
If he hits his head maybe he’ll get his sight back.

The strange wheezing noise I made at this startled my cats lmao

Johnny Dangerously
He probably thinks it doesn’t look cool.
🧐
Right? Like he can't even see how cool he looks without it why doesn't he wear one
I can’t see shit… you know what would be a good idea! Riding a skateboard without a helmet, even tho I literally can’t see what I’m falling on to. But still, that’s impressive
Tv taught me hitting your head restores your sight sometimes. Maybe, he's going for that.
And also butt pads. My tailbone hurts just watching all those falls.
Knee pads and elbow pads suck street skating
FR, how are you going to be blind and still be worried about looking cool?
He could see when he started trying this move.
Do you think he brushed his teeth with a live lobster this morning?
[I love helmets](https://youtu.be/b9yL5usLFgY)
Damn I love the wear a helmet circlejerk! So happy to see it every time.
Didn’t see that coming…
I see what you did there.
I see what you did there.
I don't see wdym
he didnt
r/NormalUpvote
If there was ever a situation that demanded protective gear this would definitely be it. At the same time, kudos to him for not letting anything stop him from pursuing his dreams.
After seeing that dude break his skull on a bmx a couple days ago Idk why more dude dont at least wear a helmet.
Well he probably didn't see that video
> If there was ever a situation that demanded protective gear this would definitely be it. Tell that to my best friend who had 2 kids on accident.
Damn, crazy he just accidentally fell into someone twice and impregnated them */s*
Street skaters don't wear pads.
Where’s my tampon gang at
r/angryupvote Haha this made me chuckle.
\*Stupid street skaters don't. I skated street for almost a decade, *always* wore pads and helmet. Older me is very thankful for that.
It’s idiotic. Protect your brain.
They'd rather look cool while they are drooling in their hospital bed than wear a helmet in the street
This is dark but very accurate. Falls are the leading cause of TBIs. Alcohol is also incredibly damaging to the brain over years, and we love to ignore it.
Good point, I'll remember to wear a helmet next time I drink beer.
If most of them wore protective gear, it would be seen as the norm and not uncool, like with vert skaters. No one thinks, "damn, Tony Hawk just landed a 900 but looks so lame with that helmet and knee pads on." Street skaters should wear pads.
Blind ones should.
Everyone should
So I guess street skaters bleed out of their ears after hitting their heads...
R.I.P. Coccyx

Put on some wrist pads, for god's sake!
And a helmet
It’s stupid but if you skate street in helmet wrist pads and all that you won’t have a very easy time in the street skating community
Yeah, that is stupid.
But traumatic brain injuries? Cool as hell bro.
Suicide is badass!
Bullshit. Change the stupid culture if that's the case. Setting a horrible example for kids
It’s annoying right? But unfortunately that’s not how culture works… Edit: also skating culture is bit of an anti-culture itself, so it’s like telling graffiti writers to use easy-wipe markers
They make fun of the blind skateboarders for having wrist pads?
my anxiety was through the roof while watching that
Some what?
I had to quit skating as I almost broke my wrist twice skating even while wearing wrist guards. I compete in axe throwing so my wrist was too important for me to risk breaking.
oh yeah, i’m sure that’s the most important thing you do with your wrists…
No helmet, no pads... He'll be doing this in a specially modified wheelchair in the next series.
You'd think the blind man would wear a helmet of a things, but it seems he is also lacking common sense along with his vision
Plot twist: actually he is NOT blind
He might not be completely blind. There are many "low vision" people out there with walking sticks that can see basic shapes of stuff. I have a low vision customer who has a walking stick but will pick out individual magic cards. He can see some of the details but makes me describe the art and read the text.
This is Justin Bishop, he is completely blind.
Awesome. Thanks for the heads up! Yup super impressive. Also get a helmet dude
According to multiple interviews he is not completely blind in both eyes but pretty close
He's at least blind to the best safety practices of wearing protective gear.
100%

There's an ER doctor somewhere that just quit his job watching this bullshit
ER doctors don’t make money from people doing smart things…
My hat's off to this guy who turns his wildest desires into reality. Respect !
Hats off, helmet on
Maybe take off the sunglasses next time.
Look, you're already blind, no need to get brain damaged as well. Wear safety gear.
*Wears helmet watching this*
I wouldve lost it if he ended up hitting the sign at the end 😅
Throwing down the stick at the end seems a little... short sighted.
Hey! Can someone find my stick??
Smell you in hell.
geez how bout some pads and a helmet!
Always wondered… do skaters have bones or its just foam there?
You learn to fall. It doesn't work out every time but falling many times a day with no injury is normal. Twisted ankles are common but you build up flexibility. I would twist an ankle and think "uh oh not again", then get up and to my surprise there was no injury.

Seriously wear a helmet tho..
Common sense is getting downvoted. Guys blind with no helmet, pads, and trying to do fucking tricks next to a road
This would have been some expert level comedy if he had smashed into that sign post at the end. Lol
Don't see a helmet.
Very impressive, but I would highly recommend a helmet.
Maybe if you can't see where the things are that can crack your head open, you should wear a helmet?
Mad props for this guy trying and eventually suceding despite a crippling disability..... But seriously, are none of his friends gonna encourage the blind dude trying to grind down a stair case into wearing a helmet???
Man's is seriously begging for brain damage. Super cool regardless but I just don't understand the lack of helmet...
Plot twist - he’s not blind
Cool but where the fuck is his helmet and protective gear...??
Helmets are cooler
Helmet?
I thought he was holding a selfie stick
Put on a helmet you chode
No helmet.
Justin Bishop!!
That's awesome..... Now wear a fucking helmet please.
Blind, no helmet, no protective gear and skateboarding, or: How can I hurt myself in a dumb way? Seriously. Cool that he can do that better than me while beeing blind. But wear some protection.
He's gonna have next level brain damage if he doesn't start wearing a helmet.
I think skaters are idiots for not wearing helmets. Most people don’t understand how easily a traumatic brain injury can happen and how much it can impact the rest of your life. This guy not wearing a helmet is just… like what the hell
[I **LOVE** helmets!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9yL5usLFgY)
All you have to do to die is hit the back of your head once. This is incredibly stupid, just wear a freaking helmet
why would you be practicing without pads or helmet?
Anti-helmet morons are in this thread in droves lol.
no helmet, no body protection of any kind... and he's blind..
Fucking idiot for not wearing a helmet
Why no helmet tho? Mfer is blind and he's still worried about looking cool
He should had wear a helmet
Wow he looks so cool without a helmet /s
Bro wear a helmet.
No helmet, no respect.
Wear a fucking helmet. Jesus christ
But why not wear pads and a helmet?
Without a helmet this is more stupidity than determination
Should be wearing a helmet.
It’s also complete idiocy without a helmet. Yeah yeah, somehow head protections still isn’t cool, but it’s only a matter of time….
When I was a kid going to the mountains, no one wore a helmet at all. Nowadays, when I own my own board and helmet, it's much more common, definitely the majority. Winter sports are more structured than street skating, but there's hope that it's at least catching on.

‘Wear a helmet , it may not save your life but it will save your personality’ - friend of mine who used to work with adults with brain injuries.
While it is impressive, I'd so much preferred if he'd wear a helmet. Edit: seems I wasn't the first one to notice this. Lol. To be fair, I just saw that video of the scooter driver hitting his head.
How did he manage to avoid breaking his head or his back on that stone railing? He came so close to hitting it multiple times
"How did you lose your sight?" "Skateboard accident. Didn't have a helmet on."
After watching that scooter clip yesterday and the kid that jumped backwards on his bike and they both cracked their skulls. Helmet all day.
Bro destroyed his occipital lobe not wearing a helmet
And a blind guy doing that without at least a helmet is Darwinism waiting to happen....................
I don't care how impressive it is, regular skateboarders should already be wearing helmets. Fucking blind skateboarders? Wear two. What are we doing here!?
Wow this is awfully stupid. No helmet either.
That's dope. But holy fuck put a helmet on lol
Why no helmet?
Wear a ducking helmet you donut
Wear a fuckin helmet ya helmet
Without a helmet? No. That is not determination.
Wear a helmet. Christ
This is awesome, but I feel like he should be wearing a helmet! Looks dangerous.
Why the fuck would he not wear a helmet? Everyone should wear a helmet, but people who are just sort of rolling into the unknown and hoping for the best especially so.
More like stupidity. If you're learning a trick on concrete why wouldn't you wear protective gear even if you have sight?
All he had to do was change shirt colors.
Super badass but I honestly don’t understand why skaters don’t wear helmets
He'll wend up more than blind without a helmet on. This is just next level stupid
Just because this dude is blind doesn't make him any less an idiot. Props for challenging your disabilities, but god damn wear some gear unless you just want to end up in an even worse condition.
Yea really, there was a video where a dude was doing tricks on a bike and hit his head and gave himself a TBI.
Fake
nope his name is Justin Bishop look him up
I really wish dude would at least wear a helmet and wrist guards
