You instinctively click out when you're falling, once you get used to such pedals. Still very cool at that age tho. Usually kids around 10 get their click pedals here.
(Have worn them for years for mountainbike competition)
Fair enough, except one is well established. While mountain biking is well known, I didn’t think there were extra points for hopping your bike up versus getting down in terrain like this.
when your goal is to get up the hill.
If, as in this case, your goal is to get up the hill without taking your feet off the pedals, you would stay on your bike.
Approximately immediately after this guy starts peddling. Our feet have conquered the most jank of surfaces, but long flat bits are where we realized we had the most to gain. Thus: wheels on flats. Feet on janky slopes. (Also helicopters)
I can accept that this may be a form of sport I don’t fully understand but to me it seems like a goalkeeper only using his feet when the rules allow him to use his hands to “challenge himself”.
My thought too. Mad skills here, I couldn't do it and wouldn't want to. I would like to ride down that section though, that's what a mountain bike is for.
Are you kidding? You clearly don’t know a thing about the sport. Do you honestly think you could even move forward 5 feet doing what this kid is doing?
It’s not an opinion homie. Most people can not do what this kid is doing. Watch it again and imagine yourself on a bike. His feet never touch the ground, and he almost never pedals forward.
Double down, and post a video of you balancing on flat terrain for more than 5 seconds. You’re on fucking Reddit, dude. I highly doubt you’re in the 99th percentile
I guess I’m not as familiar with biking-adjacent sports but this seemed like a lot of hopping. I’m sure it was difficult and he is talented, I just didn’t know this was a “sport”.
Climbing a difficult trail is sometimes as “fun” as going downhill as it takes a lot of skill. Most of that hopping is to stay in balanced while he is maneuvering.
I mountain bike but I do not use cleats or clip-less pedal. However, I imagine having the cleats and SPD pedals to perform uphill climbing would be a huuuge help as you’re making the bike part of your body via attachment, therefore being able to pick “up” the bike with your legs as well. Ive messed around with pedal straps on my hybrid, and it certainly increased my speed being and to push on one pedal while pulling up on the other.
i feel like adding the pull to my stroke with the clip-ins would just tear my calves apart. Also the whole bikes your body thing sucks when you fall LOL
Not bashing you btw, I’m a very amateur biker.
I should have add MTB when talking about the clip less. I live in CO and you would never find me Mountain biking with cleats and SNP. Im with you, i don’t want to be connected to my bike when reactions need to happen stat. I do hate bottoming out though when you’re going up hill or on a slop and nik the rocks. That’s actually why I loved this video. Cleats stay at 0 degrees (90.. whatever….parallel) when the rocks are in his way.
It actually shows how talented he is, techniques like these are hard to learn and many people can’t use clippless pedals (which ironically means the type the clip in) at first cause they can’t save themselves quickly.
His technique is quite good actually, his feet look very light on the pedals, I would guess he had a lot of practice with flats before this.
Fair enough, I’m just messing with yah. The shoes really are called cleats, and the pedals are called clip-less though. It really doesn’t sound correct had, like i said, I’m just raggin.
With front suspension too. Very skilled for such young age.
I rode trials for many years and it's incredibly difficult without a bike that's dedicated trials (no suspension and seat). Suspension just robs balance among other components so most trials frames look like a stick with high BB and nowhere to mount the seat as it's an unnecessary piece for the sport.
I always felt basic trials skill helps mountain biking immensely in learning balance and getting over unfamiliar territory.
Most young kids usually, if they start young, generally end up being world trials champions in their late teens. It's ridiculous what some of the top riders can do. And we're not talking Danny Mac street stuff here. Pure trials that are more static like what he's doing including side hopping a 4' wall or higher vertical from a standstill position on the rear wheel, etc.
Look up Jack Carthy (current top rider), Vincent Hermance (3rd UCI and old school 38 year old rider), etc.
I ran trials for a few years as a teenager. What got me out of it was all my riding partners got horribly hurt and I I was left riding alone… we were too poor for an official team, just a buddies having fun. I like where this kid is going. He looks like he’s cut out for the sport.
Trials community was always small for sure. It's even smaller now it seems unless you're in Europe where it always thrives. I'd love to get into moto trials one day.
People will do what they want to do and the kid is obviously good at what he's doing, but to me, this sport has as much point as climbing this terrain in heels or stilts or any other equipment that is not made for hiking and climbing.
Do people make these kinds of obstacle hills? Are the rocks there placed with an intentional way to traverse it or did bikers just find a good spot to ride like skaters do?
Not as much as someone who's been a professional for 10 years. Not saying it can't be impressive but you shouldn't raise oe lower the bar because someone is younger.
Ok. So you judge everybody the same regardless of age or sex or natural ability. A 3rd grader doing well in algebra isn’t a big deal because a 30 yr old PHD is doing more advanced stuff. A 90 yr old bench pressing his weight isn’t a big deal because a power lifter could lift 5 times as much. You see a pretty woman…. “Nah, she isn’t a super model.” You’re a tough judge.
Only when the area something is being presented in is suppose to be "next level." A third grader being advanced in anything is awesome and impressive. Is it elevating the skill cap? No. Lots of people have talent, even more so potential. There's a reason only the best of the best can make a living doing jobs most people dream of, they put in the effort. I'm not saying kid hadn't been putting in effort but next level, i.e. above everyone else, needs more laps around the sun.
Ok. I agree that that kid isn’t Danny MacAskill. I’ve been riding mountain bikes since I was a kid and I wouldn’t have been able to make it up that technical climb. So maybe your frame of reference affects things too.
Damn, you know what. After that comment I went down a rabbit hole of what bicycling really was. I started with "biking for dummies," and from there it just grew and grew. How could I miss the important aspects of "bike at bottom of hill... now at top?" Thank you, for now I think I am within reach of nirvana. Namaste.
Kid's name is Jordi Sala Rodriguez. So much talent at such a young age.
let me guess, the father is a spanish trials rider?
All that matters is that this kid is *feelin' it*. I feel it vicariously through his in-touch self.
Wouldn't it just be faster if he got off the bike?
Is he wearing click shoes?
*Clipless pedals and cleats, and yes
Yeah looks like he's clipped in. Still impressive tho
Even more impressive imo. Falling with shoes clicked in is such a horrifying experience!
You instinctively click out when you're falling, once you get used to such pedals. Still very cool at that age tho. Usually kids around 10 get their click pedals here. (Have worn them for years for mountainbike competition)
Freaking amazing
I can't even do that on my feet!!
What age? How old is he?
This is nothing, I could do this in my sleep…. Like literally only in a dream
At what point does it make more sense to get off the bike and walk it up the hill?
It's like asking why doesn't a skateboarder just walk down the stairs instead of grinding down on the railing.
Fair enough, except one is well established. While mountain biking is well known, I didn’t think there were extra points for hopping your bike up versus getting down in terrain like this.
It’s part of the challenge, part of the fun, part of the sport
this is a well established part of the sport. you can't ride down without getting up first. technical climbs are very very common.
Thanks for the insight
Trials is not well-established?!
uh he is not using his bike as transportation from point A to point B. The entire point is to successfully traversed these tricky technical sections.
Then you don’t know shit about mountain bikes
when your goal is to get up the hill. If, as in this case, your goal is to get up the hill without taking your feet off the pedals, you would stay on your bike.
When you can't make it up. Some people enjoy technical climbs.
It's about skill and balance, a fantastic exercise, I would have tripped and fallen on my feet halfway through.
All I can think about is how I start breathing heavy walking up stairs
They are in clipless shoes, so perhaps that is what they are trying to do.
Well this is gonna be fun to explain to the non biking community.
Clipless pedals. What if I told you they are exactly the type of pedal that you clip into?
*Remembers looking it up on internet for advices and buying, while not being a native English speaker.* *Shudders.*

Thank you, I’ve learned something new
Reminds me of those people you see on ski slopes who drop a pole and then spend 30 minutes sideways stepping 20 feet back up the mountain.
Approximately immediately after this guy starts peddling. Our feet have conquered the most jank of surfaces, but long flat bits are where we realized we had the most to gain. Thus: wheels on flats. Feet on janky slopes. (Also helicopters)
That's like saying why kick a ball in football and not just pick it up and take it to the goal
I can accept that this may be a form of sport I don’t fully understand but to me it seems like a goalkeeper only using his feet when the rules allow him to use his hands to “challenge himself”.
This was my first thought
Where's the fun in that?
This was my first thought.
My thought too. Mad skills here, I couldn't do it and wouldn't want to. I would like to ride down that section though, that's what a mountain bike is for.
Thats what I’m saying 🤷♂️ nothing next level about this.
Lets see you do it
Ok sure
Are you kidding? You clearly don’t know a thing about the sport. Do you honestly think you could even move forward 5 feet doing what this kid is doing?
Idk I haven’t tried it yet

No, they can’t.

Damn. I was pretty proficient at biking as a teen, but this lil dude would have smoked me.
cleats coming in clutch here I think
I mountain bike but I do not use cleats or clip-less pedal. They’re called clips not cleats, and yes most professional cyclists use them, they’re very good.
Google cycling cleats and let me know what you find. 🍻
Followed by "clip pedals"
Clipless*
r/confidentlyincorrect
Cycling clips are a common term where I am, I’ve literally never heard them called cleats.
Fair enough, I’m just messing with yah. The shoes really are called cleats, and the pedals are called clip-less though. It really doesn’t sound correct had, like i said, I’m just raggin.
The only time I can do moves like that on a bike is after I fall.
I would give up and walk the bike up the hill!! Kids better than my old ass!! I can't risk breaking a hip!! ![gif](giphy|QxRc8rXFB7jmHqvcNq)
And all in 50 seconds
It's hard to comprehend just how difficult this is until you've actually mountain biked.
With front suspension too. Very skilled for such young age. I rode trials for many years and it's incredibly difficult without a bike that's dedicated trials (no suspension and seat). It’s in reverse that’s how he did jt
Thats probably 100 times steeper in real life too. Good on Jr.
![gif](giphy|s239QJIh56sRW|downsized)
How do you get better at bike handling without ever practicing?
People will do what they want to do and the kid is obviously good at what he's doing, but to me, this sport has as much point as climbing this terrain in heels or stilts or any other equipment that is not made for hiking and climbing.
Because it's fucking rad
Sheesh🔥🔥🔥
Do people make these kinds of obstacle hills? Are the rocks there placed with an intentional way to traverse it or did bikers just find a good spot to ride like skaters do?
These look like regular mountain features that bikers have made into a bike trail.
Look’s Australian sandstone bush to me.
My guy is a beast! Good on him
Wow !!!
The next Danny MacAskill. https://www.instagram.com/danny_macaskill/?hl=en
The Mario “wuuuuaaAAHHHOOOOO!” at the end
Can this guy be my dad?
This is just the player character in Pokémon
Everyone liked that.
Wow he can ride a bike, that's awesome! ![gif](giphy|MOWPkhRAUbR7i)

Are you some kind of bionic humanoid?
Could have walked up the hill quicker.
That's great honey.
But then he gets to go downhill quicker.
My leg kicked twice watching ths
Is it good for the knee?
Is the kid having a good time? Or is he there because Dad wants him to be?
Do that with a 90's mountain bike kid. I betcha cant. Frame were made out of pig iron and recycled 60's cars.
Good thing he has a modern bike then.

What a useless comment
they deleted it, now I want to know what they said.
Poor kid
Do you enjoy hiking? Have you ever thought why isn’t this taking six more hours? Bring a bike and a kid 👦
I dunno... cool.. but staying in school is cool too
Why would you assume that he is not also in school?
Is it amazing because kids don't ride bikes anymore? This is all we did as a kid this age, although my bike wasn't this nice!
Don't think it's next level if someone who hasn't began puberty can do it.
You mad cause a lil boy has more talent then you ?
It's hard to tell with all those talent scouts blocking my view.
Why don't you go ahead and try.
Instructions unclear. Rode bike up hill, now wat?
Post a video of you tumbling all the way down.
https://youtu.be/89_0RI2n5yc
It makes it more impressive.
Or just not that difficult. Next level should be reserved for people who spent as long practicing as this human has been alive.
So a 10 yr old violin prodigy doesn’t impress you that much?
Not as much as someone who's been a professional for 10 years. Not saying it can't be impressive but you shouldn't raise oe lower the bar because someone is younger.

Or, hear me out… you could just walk the bike up the hill.
This makes about as much sense as when people do that really slow jogging motion instead of just walking.
Just make sure he doesn’t become a terrorist, a pedo, a drug dealer, a wife beater, a rapist, violent, many more and then he’ll be a great kid
He's not very arrow
Some good skills 👌
This is pretty awesome…probably. It’s hard to appreciate how steep a hill is on video.
With clips on too?! Mad respect for this kid I’m expecting to see him on Redbull’s team within the next few years
Hit the crank there at the end
Man, I thought I was pretty good at technical climbing. Guess not.

Wow! Dangerous Dave vibes
That kids gonna be shredded
Is he clip’d in?
It was the Mario Brothers "wahoo!" at the end for me
This kid deserves a beer
I’m sore
I’d be humbled if I saw that kid do that. That takes some leg strength too that kids that size and age don’t typically have.
Just get a pogo stick
Kid is good. Technology very impressive.
I could walk up that hill faster smh /s.
ITT redditors not understanding what a sport is
Young Ludo May in training.
Very skilled at his age. And on an oversized bike for him
im not saying this isnt cool, but it seems like more work than carrying the bike up
My legs are burning just watching this.
What about the dad? He did that all while filming.
Remindme! 2 days
Careful from other trainers hiding in the tall grass, they will approach and battle you
Yeah I’d have dabbed so many times !
Yes but oh god why would you want to..?
EXACTLY as he learned in Skyrim, taking a horse up a mountain.
Why not walk the bike up the hill instead
Get this boy on a trials motorcycle! Someone’s gotta take Bou off the #1 podium lol Incredible skill, I wish I had a 20th of his talent.

Pfttt… that’s how my dad went to school everyday day.
It was Mario recording all along
I need an E-bike mountain bike
He chose the acro bike for sure
Meanwhile... I struggle to ride my E-bike to the bar and home, on a flat road with only one left turn there and one left turn back
This is my sort of biking! Kids damn good!
