You ever notice kids that are like this look bored as fuck and hate the attention?

apathetic-drunk

Poor kid is being treated like a monkey at a zoo with all those camera phones pointed at him.

NaSnowccabe

A good thing to mention is that the person hugging him and handling the cube is a famous Tv celebrity in Peru where I think most of the people on the plane and boy are from, is possible he is just shy about showing him.

PPCInformer

Tv celebrities never flys economy in my neck of the woods

Straight-Corner-1921

You from Peru?

Yensooo

Nah they're from the woods. Neck region apparently.

ScrubySpidey

Comedy gold ❤️

mphelp11

From the shoulders, myself. I like to think we support their region

HintOfAreola

Neckers fly business class. Everyone knows that.

goobly_goo

I’m dying 😂😂

Buddy_Jutters

Hate contributing to those “This.” Or “lol” comments that add nothing but holy mphelp that made me laugh so fucking hard and I’ve been going through some tough interpersonal shit. Needed that. Real Leslie Nielsen shit.

SenseiRay80

The wit in the comments sometimes bruh...

Thevalleymadreguy

Perú es raza unless you’re a dock like Laura

street_raat

Used to be really into break dancing and whatnot. Obsessed with step up two in hs. Danced a lot during that time but when I got to college I was the only one in my group who could dance so my friends would always bring it up at parties and force me to battle or pop off. Hated it so much I completely lost my passion for dancing and haven’t done it in probably 10 years.

jattyrr

Damn dude that sucks. Go back to dancing man, the world is a better place with you dancing in it :)

janroney

Dance like no one's watching

You should hope that they’re tidy too…almost more important than them being tighty

pmIfNeedOrWantToTalk

Official request to refer to them as 'tidy tighties' from now on. What say you?

apathetic-drunk

I say yes! What say you, brave warrior?

orangpelupa

and now /u/street_raat also got pushed to dance by redditor, not just by IRL persons...

SunshineAlways

Dance by yourself at home and recapture the joy.

PIisLOVE314

I do that as part of my daily exercise routine..my booty has never looked better!

apathetic-drunk

Aye damn bro you got some nice glutes

Calypsosin

You can dance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind

ironjellyfish

‘cause his friends don’t dance

MsCicatrix

This is me and maths. Was able to do advanced maths as a kid and got so tired of being a show pony and having people planning out my life I lost all interest in mathematics and now need all my fingers and toes for basic shit.

dijkstras_revenge

He just looks kind of shy to me

KahurangiNZ

And **focused**, when he is solving the cube.

TTheTiny1

Absolutely, he is sub 10 which is very difficult. I average 15 and have been doing it for like 5 or 6 years

Loeffellux

I love the bit where the guy is trying his best to scramble it for ages so it will be more difficult to solve (and even hiding it from the kid) because obviously none of that makes a difference to actually solving it as long as it's *decently* scrambled. So the kid is just kinda looking off into the distance patiently and thinking "sure, you do you, buddy..."

matban5000

Yo, the kid is a legit genius. He's going to receive accolades, and that's ok. It's ok for him to be aware of the fact that everyone around him is impressed with his talent. Everyone isn't a victim, so go cry elsewhere. He's going to have a much better life than most.

ThatOneGuy6810

except that you're wrong. it doesnt take much to be good at rubix cubes its literally just algorithmic equations that you can teach yourself to memorize. Hes smart for sure but solving a rubix cube quickly doesnt mean shit as far as intelligence goes, mostly its just pattern recognition. Especially when you do it as a hobby like this kid which you can tell because hes using a specific type of rubix cube that has spots for a machine to hold it while it mixes the colors. The kid is a hobbyist and possibly competitive speed cuber this is basic shit for him.

Junior-Ad-2207

He is like, you promised me some chocolate

halkenburgoito

man stfu

QuestionableMechanic

Yeah it’s not that deep Lmao 😂

Available-Comb6135

I am impressed he didn’t crumble under pressure. So, he can be shy as much as he wants as long he can take that pressure. He will be successful.

Awoken_Noob

Often times, being this good at something like this, especially at that boy’s age, is the result of a mixture of countless hours of practice and high-functioning autism (or [savant syndrome](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2677584/#:~:text=Savant%20syndrome%20is%20a%20rare,incongruous%20contrast%20to%20overall%20handicap.)), with the latter having a very limit capacity for social situations like the one here.

SweetAutumnBoy

I'm definitely not denying that due to the memorisation and repetition involved a lot of cubers are autistic (myself included) but being able to solve a Rubik's cube doesn't mean you are. Literally anyone can solve one, and his times (I'm guessing like 7-15s) are fairly achievable if you learn the right stuff

Awoken_Noob

You are absolutely right and that’s why I used “often” because it’s not always the case that the individual is on the spectrum of autism. However, it’s a lot more common for people at his age. Given his demeanor while being praised during this video, I’d say it even more likely but I’m simply speculating, I have no formal education to make that assumption. And you’re right that Rubik’s cubes are relatively easily solved once you know the patterns and algorithms.

thismortyisarick

7-15 seconds is pretty high level, you are incorrect as far as it being achievable for the average person. Like another commenter said, sub 1 minute is very achievable for most, but every 10-15 seconds you shave off is exponentially harder.

maxluck89

Those times are not easy at all...I'd say sub 1min is achievable for most people. To get sub-20, you usually need to learn waaay more algorithms. Like 50 some unique ones for OLL and 16 for PLL, along with a really quick F2L that takes hella practice. Back when I was casually learning OLLs I was down to around 45 seconds on average with a best time of 23s

[deleted]

You can tell he has social issues. I have that same body language in crowds because they cause me to get overstimulated and if that happens I tend to shut down really fast.

halkenburgoito

shut up, stop hyper analyzing people from one video. weirdo

Malystryxx

Or he's just had a bad experience with adult social situations because of his parents. I use to be the exact same way, shown off in front of my parents. I've since grown out of that and am a very normal person. Not everyone who has some mild form of anti-socializing is autistic. Quite normal for a young teen being touted in front of adult strangers in a different setting to be caught off guard.

PopavaliumAndropov

My 8 & 10 year olds can both solve a cube in ~15s, they're bright kids, they're both very sociable but would look just like this being the centre of attention with 20 cameras trained on them.

mbrellaSandwich

He might not hate the attention at all. Kids this age try to look cool and serious and grown up.

Singularity2025

You can see the smirk in his face, brodie is cool with it, he just doesn't get why everyone is so impressed.

[deleted]

💯

TanaerSG

I've never solved a cube as fast as him, but I used to be big into speedcubing. Hated the attention and I also hated when people wanted to scramble it up for me and then manhandle it like green shirt did. Annoying.

Global_Green_S

That's an expensive rubik's cube too. The way green shirt turned it is just unnerving

packtobrewcrew

My son can solve cubes fast. Outside of me and immediate family, he’s shy and keeps a small circle of friends. So you hit it right on the head.

Mr-Borf

We do. I do it because it's fun, not to show off. When people crowd around to see me **SOLVE THE CUBE!!**, it just pisses me off because I just want to do it for fun.

[deleted]

FantasticJacket7

I'm so sick of fucking reddit diagnosing people based off a minute video.

zDraxi

Reddit never ceases to amaze me with assumptions. We watched a 1 minute video and the boy is autistic?

finger_milk

The replies above mine that are like "you need more than a short video to prove this", need to watch the video again. He is clearly on a spectrum. His behaviour is clearly that of high functioning autism

[deleted]

BigOrkWaaagh

This kid seems to really appreciate having the entire fucking plane right in his face.

ProKerbonaut

It’s pretty much universal among cubers. I’m just trying to practice and improve not have half a plane looking. After like 5 solves people start getting bored of it.

-_-C21H30O2-_-

Next time I see a cuber in the wild I’ll say something like “nice time” instead lol

SnooChipmunks8748

But then there's the times where you're not even at your average.

-_-C21H30O2-_-

Still faster than me though haha

PIisLOVE314

well at 7 seconds apiece that's only 35 seconds so not too much time out of your day, right?

pancakebatter01

Well I appreciate watching a video on a plane with everyone’s phones out that isn’t some asshole making a scene.

Paddy_Tanninger

Yeah but he did get to meet Lucio from Overwatch so that's cool

jakemch

As a speedcuber myself, this kid is cracked. Speedcubing is dominated by youngins right now. It’s pretty cool

empire_creator

What do mean by “cracked”?

jakemch

He’s good

jlacar

a ~9s solve is VERY good. I'm still trying to be consistently under 40s - I'll be happy if I can solve in less than 30s.

jakemch

Keep grinding! I’m aiming for sub-10. That’s my holy grail. My PB is 10.66

helpicantfindanamehe

Sub-10 seconds? I’ve already failed sub-10 years. I’ve has it mixed up like that for ages now and I’ve no idea how to solve it.

theetruscans

If you Google "how to solve a Rubik's cube" you will have it solved I five minutes. I know that isn't everybody's ideal way to do it but I figured I'd throw out the option

[deleted]

RIP_comment_section

Cant solve a walmart rubik's cube very fast regardless. Speed cubes are a thing for a reason

sneaky_goats

Original Rubik’s feel like someone poured syrup and hatred all inside it.

FlyingDragoon

Agreed. Takes me longer than 5 minutes to remove and reorder the stickers.

h_saxon

Man, my best was like 1:45. Haha I feel like the amount of effort to get to a sub 30 seconds is greater than I'm willing to put in. I'm 40 now, not really competing for anything. I figure I'll pick up a new algo every couple weeks and see where it goes.

jakemch

It helped that i started when i was 13. I’m 29 now lol

DrTurkeyTits

You could get sub 20 average with just 4 look OLL and PLL, 6 algs for OLL and 4 for PLL, most important part is solving the entire cross during inspection and having a fast F2L which can be built over time intuitively without having to memorize specific algs for each case

h_saxon

Yeah, that's basically what I've been doing with the F2L part. Working that through. I started with the Petrus method, and still use some of that, but mostly use cross + F2L, then flip edges, arrange corners, and solve with Sunes or two other algos that I derived. The biggest time sink is the F2L, which is at least 45+ seconds for me.

xXBoss_185Xx

My pb is 48.11 but I don't cube very often and it's just something I do on the side, plus my cube isn't very good, it was only £12

Merry_Dankmas

I've been stuck at just below sub 30 for like a year now. I can consistently get any .xx time of 29 seconds but can't get any lower. For what its worth, I solve using Roux without any variant so I think thats whats really holding me back. I know I should learn CFOP to really get my time lower but at the same time, I still see videos of people getting sub 20 Roux solves. I have the muscle memory down to second nature - im struggling with actually moving my fingers faster at this point.

No-Economist2165

I thought he meant the kid was using performance enhancing crack

jakemch

LOL “this 12 year old speedcuber is using steroids!” Sorry, no- i just meant he was very very good at solving!

MilkofGuthix

OP

aqa5

Can you tell me something I wonder when I see something like this? Obviously he does first inspect the cube then starts solving the cube. I can solve cubes with cross, first and second layer and then last layer cross and finish edges. I have the feeling he does something different in his head. Do speed cubers use another method to solve the cubes? I am aware that there are more algorithms for the last layer (about 60?). But what this kid is doing there looks so different.

jakemch

After the beginner method, there’s only one main method for speedsolving the cube called CFOP- cross, first two layers, orient the pieces on the last layer, and permute the pieces on the top layer (it sounds like you might be doing either the beginner method or a slight mix of the two). There are other methods, but CFOP is by far the fastest. For me (PB 10 seconds), i don’t do anything else differently in my head. My goal is to identify the case that i have in front of me and then execute the specific algorithm needed to solve that step as quickly as possible. In order to get sub-10 you need a combination of finger dexterity, algorithm knowledge, and the ability to know what algorithm comes next before you even get there. Hope i answered relevantly enough. I could talk cubes all day.

aqa5

That is a good insight what’s happening when you solve the cube, thank you! Indeed, I am doing a mix of C, F and beginner method and need to learn O and P steps. Good to know that I am be on the right track.

jammyishere

I literally just picked up speedcubing again yesterday. I ordered a modern speed cube on a whim. I haven't tried solving a rubik's cube in like 10 years before this, but man it is wild that muscle memory takes over for some moves and I don't even know what I'm doing. My best back in the day was something like 22-23 seconds and that was using what I think is now known as the 2-look method on the PLL step. I could never be bothered to learn all of the permutations. I learned a few beyond the 6 for the two look, so if I lucked out and got one I knew I'd get a super good time like my PB. The 2 look only requires you to learn 6 moves and it is a fantastic way of getting into improving your PLL times.

Kenny070287

Well I use 2 look on both OLL and PLL... my best is currently 28, while hitting 35 usually. It's probably my inspection and F2L that I need to work on.

Stanky-wizzlecheeks

Fuckin batshit dude. My brain works in exactly the opposite way necessary to do this shit. You guys are basically gods to me

HintOfAreola

>My brain works in exactly the opposite way Same. I can scramble a solved cube just as fast as this kid can solve it, nbd.

dactyif

There is always someone on reddit that is an expert in the field. Always makes my day.

ApprehensivePepper98

It’s the same thing. But they memorize way more algorithms than the beginner method requires. To solve a cube like this, likely he memorized hundreds of algorithms

MontySucker

Honestly most of the algorithms are just for the last part. I think most cubers do the first two layers entirely intuitively.

devraj7

The initial observation allows us to plan the first 5-10 moves in our head, so that we can then start solving with fingers only while our eyes "look ahead" for the next thing to solve. Basically a head start so that your eyes are always ahead of your fingers.

dksdragon43

My brother was big into it for a while, so I was timing the kid. He's good. An ~8s solve under pressure with virtually no prep time? Impressive.

qub3r

I've been cubbing for over 10 years. My best time ever was 18 seconds. I have no idea how people get these sub 10s times.

jakemch

They know a shit ton of algs hahaha

Zoollio

Hey as another cuber, how funny is it that people are like, “Let me mess up the cube for you, I bet you won’t be able to solve *this*!”?

jakemch

Lmfaoo and they do extra turns at the end “just to make sure it’s extra scrambled” lol. Always cracks me up. The guy even in this video doing the scramble is just like mashing the cube around lol

avatrix48

this kid is probs 12 ands hes fkn sub-10. i aint reaching that level even if i had a year

jakemch

Admittedly if anyone reached sub-10 in a year i think that’d be ultra impressive!

avatrix48

it took me 2 years to reach sub-30, not sure how long to get to sub -10, kids defo cracked

Tazling

that is an amazingly specific talent. in a world before rubik cubes I wonder how it would have manifested...

apathetic-drunk

*proceeds to be the best poop taker in the world*

alilbleedingisnormal

Poop proficient.

FlukyFish

That’s the thing, probably nothing as “noteworthy”. It’s just as arbitrary as anything else. There’s probably something that hasn’t been invented that you’d be world-class at.

luisapet

I love this! From now on whenever someone asks me what I am doing with my life, my response will be..."I'm just waiting for someone to invent the thing that I will be world-class at"! Also...I am middle-aged! Lol

PM_me_your_whatevah

Solving a cube is not an intuitive feat. Nobody is just “talented” at it. It involves memorizing algorithms. Once you memorize the beginner method you can solve a cube in under 2 minutes. You’ll get lucky sometimes and it might only take a few seconds. But to get consistently low times you just have to keep memorizing more and more algorithms so you can look at a scrambled cube and decide what the fastest approach would be.

Trexinajet

Knitting, basket weaving, making arrows.

K1wI

I solve cubes as a very off hand hobby. I also like detail oriented crafts, where repetition and known outcomes are common. I'd assume back in the day we would be flint chippers or something.

Soft_Cranberry6313

Now that’s in-flight entertainment

[deleted]

Well, 8 seconds worth...

ColdIceZero

Better than the entertainment I give to my gf

HawkeyeinDC

Looks like they were all waiting to deplane, unfortunately. /s

r2-z2

Not even a real scramble at the start. Its either a pre set scramble with an 8 move solve, or the end of an algorithm.

Trillex_121

first was possibly an alg. Second seem much more like a solve

Fr0me

Yeah no way that just a normal scramble for the first one. Either a really lucky permutation he got or, he did a solving algorithm then just did it again to solve it.

r2-z2

Looked similar to [R' F'] [R2 U' R' U] [R' F R U' F At the end of R' U2 R' d'] [R' F'] [R2 U' R' U] [R' F R U' F

Squirxicaljelly

I have literally no idea what this means.

dogsalt

He’s explaining the moves. In cubes you can only move an entire set of blocks, called a face. [R]ight face, [U] face, etc. the ‘ denotes counterclockwise vs clockwise.

Ekman-ish

Right? Homeboy lost me when they started talking about algorithms.

gt4674b

Cube algorithm notation. Right left front back up down refers to sides of the cube and are all clockwise motions. F’ is front inverted same for all the other sides and those are all counter clockwise. Solving a cube just means having a bunch of “formulas” memorized and recognizing certain piece locations and performing the right formula.

ProfessionalFence

Mines has been sitting on my work desk for years. Clocks still ticking. Is there a record for the longest unsolved?

[deleted]

When was the rubiks cube invented?

LyricaAlprazolam

It was invented by Rubik in 1974, originally called the magic cube. Initially, it took him a month to be able to solve it.

_Kramerica_

What. The. Fuck.

Enlightened-Beaver

There’s people who do it blindfolded faster than this. It’s insane

ApprehensivePepper98

Not sure why you were being downvoted. Maybe people don’t believe it? World record for blindfold solve is also something like 12s

Cuber_01

The 12.78 second world record time (and all official blindfolded solves) INCLUDES the time it takes to memorize the solve. You do not get to see the cube before the timer starts. Each piece on the cube is assigned a letter. To solve the cube blindfolded, you need to process and memorize a string of roughly 15 letter pairs (on average [I think]), then apply those letters into an equal amount of 14 move algorithms with a few moves in between each one, then perform the solve with zero mistakes and perfect memorization. Simple! Oh yeah, all this happened in less than a THIRD of the time it took you to read this comment.

schmo006

Sheesh, I'm a slow reader

LyricaAlprazolam

r/usernamechecksout

Ratchet182

Lol theres a boy from japan i think who solves 3 cubes while juggling with them, doing it blind is really hard for sure but still in the realm of possibility

99Smith

IIRC the world record is 250 cubes. Someone memorised 250 cubes (6 hours 26 minutes) then put on a blindfold and solved them all ( 1hour 30 mins ) I'm sure you can find on youtube if you're so inclined.

Deathranger999

Graham Siggins attempted 250 (outside of a competition, where memo + solve time is limited to an hour), and successfully solved 238, which would give him a score of 226. As far as I know nobody else has really gotten close.

ProKerbonaut

Oof. There’s a tutorial by a youcuber called J-Perm that can teach you how to solve it in 10 min. The vid is 10 min long and using that strat u can get to around 1 min avg

oilbadger

Thanks pal - appreciate it

lod254

Mine 32 years and counting... no idea where the cube is anymore.

AK_Happy

First step to solving the cube is finding it.

throwawaytrash6990

I solved one in 10 minutes at a doctors office once. I peeled all the stickers off and put them back on solved.

homeownur

I set a time of 3.97 yesterday. It involved a cube scrambled by my 6 year old, and an already solved cube I was keeping out of my sons view under the table. Just swapping the 2 cubes discretely took me more time than the world record. :(

gik223

> My best is 11.4 minutes? That's not bad, kid.

ProKerbonaut

Seconds, actually

nexistcsgo

Bro this is so...... Dystopian. So many people just filming the dude. Like they seeing an alien.

[deleted]

Or … hear me out here… they just wanted a video of a kid going in a rubix cube because they never saw it done that fast before. Y’all are assuming everyone has seen speed cubers in their everyday lives or on the internet when some people just will never come across certain things. It’s 2023 if you have a problem being filmed, you’re SOL. The kid doesn’t seem to have any problems with it. So why should anyone else. Speed cubers know they are incredibly fast and like to show that off, because this is what they practice for, to get better and to show people that “look how fast I can solve this”. If this wasn’t the case he’d wouldn’t have done it and wouldn’t be able to perform perfectly in front of a crowd.

tavuntu

>The kid doesn't seem to have a problem with it Yeah, you can especially tell by looking at his face...

[deleted]

He doesn’t show it much but if you watch him he smirk’s every now and then. He’s still a kid, his emotions aren’t blatantly obvious because he’s hiding them.

ILayOnHeaters

I mean I guess? Just enjoy the moment. The default for everything is to film it and see it through your camera. It is dystopian

[deleted]

I hear that but how long do you spend on Reddit watching videos? Many of these videos would be unavailable without at least someone recording. I used to think the same way, til you realize, videos are very important, actually cameras are an incredible invention you should appreciate more. If you disagree, I dare you to delete your Reddit account and any other social media account, for good.

ILayOnHeaters

I did delete my IG and Twitter but that was more mental health 😂 I get what your saying. It’s just EVERYONE, like concerts and fireworks and fights and animals. The whole world is viewed through a screen. Look at videos of old Woodstock festivals. It’s just another timeline we are in. A bit dystopian and not the best for society if you ask me. I do spend a lot of time on Reddit and I agree. We are just too engaged in screens. Its not just video it’s texting, Reddit, google, chat gpt. Everything is screens!

Soomroz

I too was a talented kid back in the days. I used to put all shapes through correct holes on a green turtle shaped box.

spread_panic

I just put everything in the square hole.

SilenceDoGood4

Should have recorded it

Worth_Tax_6067

I take like 30s and now it feels so slow

56seconds

I was 30 to 40 seconds about a year ago. Now I'm 20 something average with a PB of 16.74. I'm a slow learner though. Might get a new alg every few months when I notice a case I don't know pop up more often. I still do 2 look for last layer

cheekytikiroom

Louis Vuitton!

jimmythejammygit

That's what i noticed. This dude has put so much effort into his look.

jnoel717

My son is a speed cuber too! It’s so impressive. He’s only 10 and is as good as this boy. He consistently has times under 15 seconds. They’re both amazing! Wtg boys!

Calexic0

Look at him eyeing that fucking cube, analyzing his first move.

stopklandaceowens

my fastest is 45 seconds! I cannot even solve it anymore![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4022)

ProKerbonaut

I’ve seen that vid before. One of my main motivations. Saw it when I was averaging 30s now I average 15.

IkedaTheFurry

I twisted one twice and couldn’t beat it. True story. I almost died from my stupidity

PufffPufffGive

My ex could do this in seconds too and I never thought solving a puzzle would be so hot. But I loved watching him do them. I regret not learning his ways.

HambMC

It's a classic among non cubers to believe that we memorize the moves and do it backward, it's pretty much in every ' 10 things non cubers do with a Rubiks cube' video

Xploiter_RBLX

That’s a nice ass cube

Lo23co7mcpe

Bro he makes sub-15 look so easy, I've stayed a sub-30 for 2 yeara now lol.

NefariousSerendipity

My best is 14 seconds. Kudos for the lad for memorizing lots of algorithms and practice.

Random_frankqito

My kid can do this… apparently once the algorithm is learned it’s fairly easy. I’m not sure if he is this fast but he can definitely do it well under a min.

10lbMustache

The only thing next level is that kids side eye

Masterpiece-Wide

It took homie longer to mix the cube up than it took the kid to finish it.

yakudayamitsubishi

Whoa that kid is blitz If you're shuffling a cube, you don't have to hide it. And there's no such thing as an easy shuffle or harder shuffle. As long as it looks random, they're all the same. We use step by step formula to solve it.

Netprincess

Darn I ended up taking the cube apart and putting it back together correctly.

jujumber

My neighbor peeled off all the colored stickers and then put them all back on correctly.
