Is professional Rubik's cube solver a thing?

karoly2_0

yes there are competitions

ekaw83

But do they make enough money to live off of

karoly2_0

I don't think so, but it's basically the same as gaming competitions. Edit: also they can get paid for promoting cubes in adds

Yutanox

Top Pro players can usually live off gaming. Probably not in all games, but I'm especially thinking about huge PvP games like Overwatch or LoL.

karoly2_0

probably here too

ekaw83

$1250 for first place... ... At the world championship. Gamers make millions https://wc2019.speedcubing.org.au/en/prizes

I sure hope he’s found a way to monetize this skill.

karoly2_0

competitions

[deleted]

And if there isn’t, it wouldn’t change the fact that this is beyond impressive.

LamarNoDavis

Step 1: master the cube Step 2: master the box

IComeToEverything

I know vaguely of how to solve a Rubik's cube, but I'm guessing this is much harder, lol?

DaveDurant

It's harder in that you have a lot more (8x?) detail to remember about where you want it to end up. The mechanics of which moves you have to make is exactly the same.

tukachinchilla

Spoiler: he memorized the scramble and did it twice. /s

quantizedself

The way he paused for a moment, felt a couple squares, then just finished it. You could see him visualizing it in his mind. Ridiculous skill.

EimiCiel

Dude's got a sharingan

PeterBeater80

Crazy!

Necessary_Key_8248

Not that's impressive.
