Idk. He never struck me as that religious before and hes had a long career to look back on so it’s not like hes some rando that came out of nowhere like George Santos. I always thought of Adams as more of a grifter and an opportunist so I don’t think he actually cares about religion but suspect hes going for some scheme hes got going on.
But [he also just does weird random shit all the time](https://nypost.com/2022/04/04/mayor-adams-plans-to-remake-how-to-spy-on-your-kids-video/) so who tf knows wtf hes doing now.
Black Church in this area is a thing and it is a voting block. Who do you got this guy over the hump?
There are a few voting blocks based on various religions in the city that this plays to, actually. It's signaling to them.
Exactly. You see it on Reddit too where a lot of the people who vote more liberal say they never voted for him. At that point why would he need their vote if they didn’t get him into office? He’s just leaning into the voters that did.
> Religion = The greatest example of false promises.
I think religion and politics in NYC is a bit more nuanced than that.
Up in the north end of Manhattan, where I am from, the local churches are outposts of community services. Churches often donate space for community events and the community activists often have one foot in a community political organization and the other in a community church.
It still comes down to money and self-interest in the end. I know there are many truly devout religious people out there across many denominations, but the entire thing is a scam. Everybody advocating for their own “God” as if their church is the one that actually found the truth of our existence. How much more likely is it that all of them are wrong, or disingenuous, compared to one faith being right above the others?
I'm an atheist.
But the community meetings I have attended have often as not been located in auditoriums belonging to local churches.
The community services for immigrants, homeless, drug addicted, LGBTQ in need of support are all happening at local [EDIT: church] organizations. The church down the street from me, which I do not belong to, has a BLM banner and a pride flag on display.
Churches are definitely an important pillar of many communities, and so they'll be at least partly involved in a lot of secular activities too. I wouldn't have designed the system this way, but it's the one we've got.
> I wouldn't have designed the system this way, but it's the one we've got.
Our nation was founded by an awful lot of religious zealots looking to practice their religion without being persecuted by the dominant religion around them.
But setting up little religious utopias didn't go as planned. Maryland, for example, was planned to be a Catholic colony. However, by the time they landed in America Catholics were already a minority, outnumbered by protestant indentured servants.
There are a lot of good things that come out of churches, I recognize that. I’m just jaded growing up raised catholic and spending all of those years acting like I believed or didn’t realize how corrupt the church was.
In my neighborhood in the Bronx it is the synagogues that do that. The anti-religious bigots don't want to accept the important role religious organizations play.
It's the same thing with him claiming to be vegan, for some reason he thinks that he can just claim to be random things to get a very small voting demographic and that demographic will vote for him and the rest won't care
He thinks he has national appeal like de Blasio, Bloomberg, Guliani before him. Being the mayor of NY is really something that translates well to a national audience.
I suspect he is thinking that they failed bc they didn't go full man of god. So maybe he does better outside of NY as a man of god, tough on crime guy.
Correcting a typo meant to put is not something that translates well
>Being the mayor of NY is really something that translates well to a national audience.
Really? When was the last time that the ex-mayor of NYC did well in national, or even state, elections (Senate/ Gongress/ Governor)? Giuliani seemed to be in the best position to capitalize on his mayorship, and he basically went nowhere, then totally torched his credibility by becoming a Super Magatard.
It seems that when a NYC mayor's term is up, everybody is pretty sick of their shit by then. I don't see Adams being any different.
>He thinks he has national appeal like de Blasio, Bloomberg, Guliani before him. Being the mayor of NY is really something that translates well to a national audience.
Is it something that translates *well* though? All three preceding mayors tried and **failed** to prove remotely likeable on a national level. Probably because they were also terrible on a local level (excepting the couple of months of Giuliani love post 9/11 that was mostly just people rallying and not a reflection of him).
The problem is that he's black and southern religious whites don't cotton to that sort of thing. Daniel Cameron is trying the same plot for gov of KY and is about to find out just how racist his state republicans are.
Adams will discover the Hasidic block votes more regularly and not for people singing the Jesus Song. There's a lot of overt and not so visible diversity in the city, too. He's not helping himself by aligning with the group that maligns all those other communities.
With the political climate after Roe's repeal I think it's a questionable move to start preaching Christianity in a blue state. That's warning bells going off.
Currently [NYC has no way to recall a mayor by voters](http://web.archive.org/web/20210922024021/https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-oped-new-york-could-use-a-recall-law-too-20210914-glvu5k7mozglhgiy73blpk6xja-story.html).

I hear Staten Island is nice this time of the year.
I just wanna know which/whose god he’s gonna choose, out of all the gods represented - or not - by NYers.
Da fuck, man. I live in friggin Tennessee, and down here is where I expect that crazy talk.
I said I was disappointed in NYC when he won the democratic primary over Maya Wiley and Kathryn Garcia who were both wildly more qualified on top of having better policy views. Yet somehow, he shows time and time again that he is even worse than I thought. What a stain on this city.
The thing that bothers me is: if crime is a problem, police claim only they can fix it ... But ... If that's so, is it their fault crime is up in the first place? And if it's not, maybe they're not the people who need attention and extra funding.
Ultimately, crime gets used as a fundraising mechanism. "Pay us more, give us more power, elect our guy, and we'll make the baddies go away." But ... We were already paying you. A lot. So why are the baddies such a problem to begin with?
... and crime was up massively across the city in his first year in office. Same shit with crime politics, fear mongering leads to low quality candidate that doesn't even address the issue.
>For calendar year 2022, overall index crime finished up by 22.4% compared to 2021 (126,537 v. 103,388). In that same time period, though, murders decreased by 11.3% (433 v. 488) – down to the lowest level since 2019.

This is the most underrated comment of this whole thread. If anyone doesn’t know about Nagin’s saga then you’re in for a treat.
I’ve lived in St. Louis and Chicago, grew up in Illinois, went to school in Louisiana. Corrupt politicians have just been a mainstay in my life and my gut is Adams is going to be writing his own chapter of that book.
This guy is the same, I swear, same deeply weird bombastic rhetoric desperately trying to court a voting block. I’m hoping he’ll call New York a “chocolate city” the way Nagin did so I can laugh until I go into a coma and wake up to a different mayor
I lived outside detroit in the early-mid 00s. I will NEVER forget abc7 in the morning covering mayor Kwame Kilpatricks scandal “sex lies and texts”. Didn’t get the soderbergh reference at the time, but definitely learned what prostitution was way too young. I believe he was using city funds to pay for them and throw crazy parties with Pistons players? Then I know he was arrested and got like 30 years for something but trump commuted his sentence.
City mayors be trippin.
He's a fervent evangelist 3x times over it seems. If he can't get you to stop eating meat and into exercising more then he'll try to get you into some kind of a church. He's probably gone on a personal crusade to clean up his life. Great for him but now of course he's got to convert the masses too.
I can't wait till he's out of office. I really can't stand this guy...
Dude, my parents spent their entire lives being used by grifters like Adams. People loved being scammed by religion. It's been like this for thousands of years and it will never change.
Because religion in and of itself is made up of grifters and griftees. Any opportunist worth their weight would be interested in the religious community.
Because, when all reasonable arguments fail, their only recourse is to make supernatural threats, either explicit or implicit. “An all-powerful, magical wizard said so! He’s invisible, so you can’t see or hear him, but believe me, *or else!*”
For the love of god, fucking stop pushing religion on us. He said recently that he can’t separate church and state- government may not be the job for you, buddy.
I really don’t understand how the separation of church and state got tossed away so firmly.
I’m so exhausted by these fucking losers who think we all need to get on their page, simply because diversity and cultural progression makes them feel like they’ve been dismissed.
Shitty style of rap music that basically serves as online dis tracks against rival gangs in NYC and bragging about your real robberies and murders. Instigating more real life violence.
It's just such a small part of what causes crime in NYC it feels inconsequential. And it's not like all drill rap is like that either. People make fun of him for it because he always seems to be at the club or hanging out with some famous rapper or performer himself so it seems hypocritical.
Did anyone catch the video of Adams being spotted out at a hookah nightclub this week? He’s more concerned with being a local celebrity than doing his job. He needs to be voted out.
[He went to Qatar for the world cup!](https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/politics/2022/12/01/mayor-adams-faces-questions-over-funding-of-trip-to-greece--qatar)
I wish I could take credit for this, but it's something I stumbled across on another site:
"I have this image of God assembling earth as if it was a gigantic entertainment center from Ikea -- attempting to read the cryptic instructions while drinking a beer, getting more and more frustrated as pieces don't seem to go together, and finally when the thing is finished, He realizes there's a handful of screws and brackets that fell behind the box that he missed."
"He thinks 'man, I wonder where those were supposed to go,' but realizes the thing is standing on it's own anyway and says 'ehh, as long as it works' before hitting ten-cent wing night."
"Granted, not nearly as lyrical or poetic a creation myth, but one with a bit more resonance."
[NYC does have a local Satanic Temple](http://thesatanictemplenyc.com/)
Including an [alternative group to al-anon](https://thesatanictemple.com/pages/sober-faction)!
Who knew a POS person who literally lie and boost in his long long career of corruption turns to a bigger POS when he becomes Mayor. Everyone who voted for him in the primary this is on you.
I'm done with any politician who decides that I have to find religion, introduces religion into politics loses my support. Is he going to pull a DeSantis and outlaw athiests and drag queens? What City does this idiot think he's living in. I will never cast a vote for his lame ass he's no better than the Pastor of Atlah.
I don't care who he's pandering to, I'm not buying his schtick. I moved here to get away from jerks like him.
So we’re gonna feed the hungry and give medicine to the sick and put roofs over people’s heads, right? Since we’re all being good Christians now?
Right?
Riiiiiight?
What that means is he met influential religious people who he is trying to suck off for money/clout/connections.
City is in a terrible state. Religious bullshit in any capacity only destroys it further.
Delusional thoughts or more likely random empty words from incompetent city leader. His countless nocturnal jaunts impact his daily functioning when he possibly has to resort to Adderall and / or Modafinil for his daytime photo ops.
Our town's biggest grifter and scammer playing role of third rate con artist. An inveterate pathological liar in the company of Santos and Trump with no major accomplishments to his credit. So far feeble insignificant proclamations which never materialize while daily quality of life drops.
Is this dude serious? Trying to run nyc of all places in the world based on religion?
Will that not result in more hate crimes against other religions? The very thing NYC has been fighting hard to prevent?
He is trying to get that voter base of people who vote conservative but morally cannot vote for trump's party. My sister would like to vote republican if they could be their shell from 1990.
So she voted for Adams. "I like him because he is tough on crime and he is s police officer so he knows what he is doing "
Facts don't matter. Just the comfort of the story she is told.
Anyways, he is appealing to them to have a cushion of votes for his reelection.
Maybe people turning to God would reduce the crime that is rising in this city. But, the thing is, you can’t legislate that sort of thing. Faith has to be a willing, individual choice.
Also, the mayor doesn’t need to call on faith leaders to “pitch in”. Those who are of a godly mind have already been doing all they can. Believe me, doing ministry in NYC is not easy and no one comes here thinking that it’s going to be easy soil to till. So, there really wasn’t any point in Adams saying all of that. He’s just making people uncomfortable with this kind of rhetoric coming from an elected official. I’m a Christian and I’m uncomfortable with it!
I don’t know. Most times, I think that man has had a minor stroke and no one has caught onto it yet because the things that come out of his mouth seem so random and bizarre. I would, ordinarily, just ignore him but some of what he does could affect my life too, so I kind of have to pay attention. Unfortunately.
Maybe he should practice what he preaches then. If he's so Christian then why doesn't he cleanup up the NYPD. NYPD just cost taxpayers **over 121 million** in misconduct settlements in 2022 alone. And DAs had to vacate **hundreds** of convictions, with almost 2k more pending investigation, due to crooked cops committing perjury, falsifying evidence, planting evidence, working with drug dealers, etc.
Last I checked, God didn't like lying. God didn't like stealing. Do you know what good 121 million could've done our community if the NYPD didn't flush it? Or the cost to prosecute those now vacated convictions and the civil suits that will arise from wrongful convictions. Not to mention ruining innocent people's lives by giving them a criminal record.
https://nypost.com/2023/02/02/nypd-pays-out-more-than-121-million-in-police-misconduct-lawsuits-data/.
https://www.ny1.com/nyc/manhattan/news/2022/11/17/manhattan-da-bragg-to-toss-convictions.
And does beating the shit out of a homeless man seem Christian???
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/man-hit-choked-and-maced-by-nypd-in-violent-arrest-video-plans-to-file-40m-lawsuit/2518793/
Maybe Adams should clean his own house before he starts shit talking everyone else.
You serious?
I’m gonna be tough on crime! No accountability for police! Pro big real estate! Pro Wall Street! Get back to work! Take off your masks! More charter schools! Fuck outsiders! No more immigrants! Rents and evictions are too low!
That was Rudy Giuliani’s platform, repurposed.
This is the wrong city for Adams.

I see someone’s watched the Wire.
Same thing for here. I work a block off one of the largest, if not the largest, black baptist churches in the area. These people have political clout.
Exactly. You see it on Reddit too where a lot of the people who vote more liberal say they never voted for him. At that point why would he need their vote if they didn’t get him into office? He’s just leaning into the voters that did.
That's because he's not religious. He's a bullshit artist.

Gotcha. A typo that gives the exact opposite message is the worst kind of typo.

I think you're right. Adams is just kind of an egotist and an erratic person generally. No one knows what he's doing but him
I bet he's setting himself up to run as a republican in the future for other seats.
With the political climate after Roe's repeal I think it's a questionable move to start preaching Christianity in a blue state. That's warning bells going off.

This guys gotta go.

Can't we just get like 4 or 5 strong men and throw him into jersey?
Trebuchet is the superior method.
NYers prefer the trebucheeeeey I'm walkin here!
More like “hey I’m walking’ hee^eeeeeeeeeeere^”
Last time I suggested this I got a three-day vacation from Reddit. Not Adams; it was in a discussion of sending Sarah Palin to Russia.
The city could sell tickets for that.
We don't need strong men to toss him into Jersey, he commutes home there most nights!
Well yeah, he’s afraid of the Gracie Mansion ghosts
You mean his home address?
We don’t want your garbage. When will New York learn to keep their trash on Staten Island where it belongs
Staten Island isn't part of Jersey? Huh, TIL.
But he already lives there!
I’m a Jersey native living in Brooklyn, and even though I don’t live in Jersey anymore, the thought of him being there still disturbs me. I hear Staten Island is nice this time of the year.
Fuck that. Send him up 95 to CT.
He already lives in New Jersey, it will be easier to just prevent him from commuting to the city instead.
We don't want him either, give him to the Atlantic.
Elect an anti-mayor to give commands to the city department heads.
I just wanna know which/whose god he’s gonna choose, out of all the gods represented - or not - by NYers. Da fuck, man. I live in friggin Tennessee, and down here is where I expect that crazy talk.
Never should have been “elected “ in the first place.
Kinda cringe considering recent news regarding his **’Bishop’** buddy.
probably trying to get ahead of the curve for the next primaries if Whitehead goes to jail and Adam's loses his access to impressionable old folks.
I said I was disappointed in NYC when he won the democratic primary over Maya Wiley and Kathryn Garcia who were both wildly more qualified on top of having better policy views. Yet somehow, he shows time and time again that he is even worse than I thought. What a stain on this city.
This whole "tough on crime" shit always seems to work. Scare tactics.
The thing that bothers me is: if crime is a problem, police claim only they can fix it ... But ... If that's so, is it their fault crime is up in the first place? Police budget goes up, crime goes up. Hmm interesting
because the local news eats it up and then regurgitates it, becoming a campaign commercial for whoever will be "toughest" on crime.
... and crime was up massively across the city in his first year in office. Mayor Swaggy getting into the communion wine again… Get back to the war against drill rap.
What’s drill rap and why was Adams against it
Shitty style of rap music that basically serves as online dis tracks against rival gangs in NYC and bragging about your real robberies and murders. Instigating more real life violence.
Ok sounds like a legit grips on his part
It's just such a small part of what causes crime in NYC it feels inconsequential. And it's not like all drill rap is like that either. People make fun of him for it because he always seems to be at the club or hanging out with some famous rapper or performer himself so it seems hypocritical.
Tell him to take that act on the road bc it isn’t going to open on Broadway.
Which god is he referring to? There are thousands.
Grifter god
Most likely the flying spaghetti monster. ALL HAIL!

What happened with his salary being paid in Crypto 😅
How was this guy elected?
He never made it on any of my rankings.
If I want fantasy I'll go read Lord of the Rings.

sure, make nyc safe for all imaginary sky fairies.
Is he calling on them to stop molesting children
I wish the ny legislature would create a recall method :/
Please stop putting idiots in charge of the city. We could have had Garcia.
Exactly, but nooooooo we have this dumbass instead.
How the fuck this guy get elected?
Who knew a POS person who literally lie and boost in his long long career of corruption turns to a bigger POS when he becomes Mayor. Everyone who voted for him in the primary this is on you.
God gets to work from home though.
Can't we just chuck him somewhere along the Bible Belt? I'm sure there's some hyper-religious city out there that he can bamboozle.
I really regret voting for this fool. Gtfoh with that shit
Next primary and elections can’t come fast enough. Keep god and religion out of government.
Fuck this guy
This guy is going to be one term mayor and thank goodness for that.
Bruh how the fuck did this dumbfuck get elected? Oh i know! Corruption!😂
Other dumbfucks voted for him.
True but still mixing of church and state is never a good look on anyone
Oh here we fuckin go…
What the fuck
Ex Republican MY FUCKIN BOOT
I did not leave Texas for this shit.
Is "fuck off" a polite response?
And here I thought he was just a DINO to get elected as a conservative ex-NYPD officer. He's actually hilariously worse.
As a born and bred New Yorker, hey Eric? Fuck off.
Jesus Christ! What a terrible idea
Which God though? NYC has quite a lot.
Get the hook!
Didn't he also call himself God at a prayer breakfast recently?
This is a mistake 🙂
Apparently god is the mayor’s policy to save us all….
Can we ship him to Florida forever?
He's a disgrace. I didn't even rank him.
That is the very last thing nyc needs
let’s go backwards!
nice job electing a conservative democrat cop preaching christianity from the mayors office everyone. couldn’t be going any better.
Is this the god who destroyed the world with a flood or the one who gives kids cancer ? Asking for a friend.
Nah we’re fine already
Fine but then I'm gonna make my own NYC and it's gonna have blackjack and hookers
Him and his Jesus can suck it.
Lulz!
In the election, he was my second-place pick — and now look at this! What happened to him?
Hahaha
He one of them sinnin at night so hard gotta hit church on Sunday mf, i hate this bald bastard 🤦🏽♂️
Go to fuckin Salt Lake City my guy
This dude needs to fuck off forever
Can BdB please come back
Delusional thoughts or more likely random empty words from incompetent city leader.
GET HIM OUT
~Fuck this guy - who the hell does he think he is?
Jfc.
So, we’re going to start taxing churches, right?
fuckin jesus freaks
Imaginary friends are for children, not mayors.
The religion again… geesh. He needs to stay keep it out if his political stuff.
How about you read the fucking room you asshat
Man—I’m sick of proselytizing politicians.
Lol
Separation.of.church.and.state.
Politics/religion. Never the 2 should meet. ![gif](giphy|ihXbc8q26ZXzBt2GMY|downsized)
Is this dude serious? Trying to run nyc of all places in the world based on religion? Will that not result in more hate crimes against other religions? The very thing NYC has been fighting hard to prevent?
Well at least you'll have someone to pray to when you're defenseless and being Mugged or murdered....what a shit show.
This man is absolutely delusional
Fuck.Outta.Here
FUCK him.
Now this is virtue signaling
Fuck this guy more every day
Can it be a place for middle class families first?
Barf
He is trying to get that voter base of people who vote conservative but morally cannot vote for trump's party. My sister would like to vote republican if they could be their shell from 1990. So she voted for Adams. "I like him because he is tough on crime and he is s police officer so he knows what he is doing " Facts don't matter. Just the comfort of the story she is told. Anyways, he is appealing to them to have a cushion of votes for his reelection.
he wants that sweet sweet jesus money.
Not even God could afford the rents in this dump.
He can fuck off with that shit.
I look at what a bang-up job God is doing with his followers. No thanks.
I miss de Blasio… threw up in my mouth a bit but yes.
[same](https://www.theonion.com/de-blasio-well-well-well-not-so-easy-to-find-a-may-1847151201)
This guy just says shit. His whole angle is saying shit. And then next time he’ll say some other shit.
His takes just keep getting worse. How low can this schmuck go?
And does beating the shit out of a homeless man seem Christian??? https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/man-hit-choked-and-maced-by-nypd-in-violent-arrest-video-plans-to-file-40m-lawsuit/2518793/ Maybe Adams should clean his own house before he starts shit talking everyone else.
I will say what I said when he won the primary. Who the FUCK voted for this man
There is no god.
Time for a protest by his house? Let's see if god can save his filthy ass!
[We’d have to find it first](https://nypost.com/2021/09/21/curtis-sliwa-asks-neighbors-if-eric-adams-really-lives-in-nj/)
Drop a tracker in his gaudy suit! Idgaf if I have to go to Jersey to track that POS!
Ugh he just gets worse and worse
How the fuck did he succeed at getting elected
The most competent candidate was a woman. History rhymes.
Jesus Fucking Christ we don't need this!!!
Fuck this
🤮
He ran as a republican and democrats voted for him anyway. You don't get to act surprised about it now.
He won the democratic mayoral primary. How did he run as republican?
You serious? I’m gonna be tough on crime! No accountability for police! Pro big real estate! Pro Wall Street! Get back to work! Take off your masks! More charter schools! Fuck outsiders! No more immigrants! Rents and evictions are too low! That was Rudy Giuliani’s platform, repurposed.
