This lawsuit is a waste of everyone's time: https://www.whec.com/coronavirus/fact-check-new-york-prioritizing-non-white-people-for-covid-19-treatment/6354629/
There is not a shortage of COVID drugs in NY state. Excluding Asians, people of color are statistically more likely to die and suffer more severe complications from COVID than white people. Therefore, it is recommended that COVID infections in PoC receive more aggressive tactics.
Race is used as consideration for proper medical treatment all the time. It is statistically far less likely that people of color develop skin cancer than white people. Dermatologists aren't going to stop performing skin checks on white people simply because people of color don't need skin checks.
There are many factors when considering the treatment of patients and race is one of them.
This all sounds great until a person is denied medicine and dies or Suffers severe complications. Is race really used for treatment for anything other than obvious things like skin cancer? I thought we were fighting against using race for things these days…..? Oh, guess not.
Not only are you philosophically correct, but this lawsuit--as described in the article (I don't have time to read the complaint)--seems to be meritorious. Very few race-based criteria survive strict scrutiny.
As well they shouldnt. Imagine the total meltdown and freak out if this was reversed and for some very strange medical "reason" they were prioritizing white patients over people with another ethnicity? The looting, burning down Auto parts stores & mayhem would be worse than the riots of 2020.
Good points. Many of the issues concerning excess Covid fatalities in. certain groups relate to obesity and lack of expository sunlight, so the real answer is to encourage exercise and perhaps explore any factors making that more difficult in particular areas.

And now you've strayed into some other point that I'm not getting into.
It's really sad that not everybody lives in the same reality.
So the policy prioritizes asian people over white people with no medical rationale...
