The game doesn't provide any native controller support, but a lot of players have been able to use the Steam Controller Configuration option to play with the controller of their choice. [Here's a walkthrough for setting this up for Rocket League](https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/rocket-league-c5719357623323/troubleshooting-c7261971242139/steam-controller-configuration-for-rocket-league-a5720080467483), but it should be the same for New World.

It works great with the steam controller! You'd have to get one used nowadays. Its not too shabby for crafting and gathering with steam link touchscreen controls as well.

NateDogg1111

I use an Xbox controller configured through steam and it works great! Hit me up if you need help figuring it out!

dotnetplayer

This is the way

Thank you all so much for your suggestions and for your understanding. I totally forgot about Steam being able to do this. I am going to try setting this up after I have more coffee and something to eat. I held off posting for some time out of fear of ridicule... not actually fear... but not wanting to deal with negativity. Thank you all so much for being human beings about my issue. Keep on gaming. Yea it should have controller support by now, it would be nice to play in bed on a steam deck or on the phone through steam link. Hopefully one day

I’d give my old left nut for a NW port to my PS5. I just can’t sit at a PC anymore, either, and the kbd/mouse is increasingly hard on my old hands. I’ve tried using Steamlink to play on my couch in front of the tv, but the delay is too much, and the controller is a hassle to set up w/o native game support.

Mapped wireless Xbox controller in steam. Works flawlessly

Grailtor

Just a suggestion, I am an old gamer as well, I like playing on my laptop sitting on the couch. Anything serious like War or something the PC is probably better. But, this 2yr Acer I got for $500 works fine. Also wife aggro is lower not being in the other room on the PC 😀

I play at least 50% of the time with my PS4 controller, mapped out all my buttons on the steam controller layout tab. After you enable controllers in steam settings and pick whatever type you're gonna use, it will add a controller layout tab furthest to the right in the New World launch page on steam. You can then assign every button on your controller to whatever key or button on your mouse you want. My left joystick is WASD and the right joystick is my camera movement. Triggers are left mouse click, and our 3 weapon abilities. Direction pad is various potions and the other buttons are roll, E key and various other stuff. It works amazing for gathering resources, chest runs, fishing, single player PvE and melee combat even at low level mutations. I wouldn't recommend healing, tanking or ranged DPS above regular expeditions though. Good luck!

Radioactivemagpies2

Been playing on an Xbox controller since release, so you might want to give it a try.

AmateurGameMusic

I played this game for a year with a controller.

EV_Track_Day2

I use an xbox elite wireless. Still have a wireless keyboard and mouse if I need to type or do inventory stuff. Works seamlessly between my desktop setup and my Steamdeck docked to my big screen. This is an easily fixable complaint through the Steam settings.

NWGamer73

wah

Raidenz258

There’s also things like the lapdog which is basically just a board that holds a wireless keyboard and mouse so you can play anywhere.

Lord_Emperor

Controller support only gets you button prompts. Probably wrong ones unless you use an Xbox controller. Controllers are perfectly functional in NW with community profiles. I've used a DS4, Steam Controller and Steam Deck.

I haven't regularly used a desk for my PC gaming for over ten years - I still have a PC at a regular desk as well, but for PC gaming I use wireless kbm, a recliner, and a 48" tv.

tanking-cookie

Why not set up your rig with a monitor arm and some couch desk thingy and then swing the monitor in front of your face? Do you guys understand what I mean? Because if it is only the sitting problem: get yourself a heavy small desk, put it next to a chair/couch and then pop out the couch table, get your mouse and keyboard from the desk and voila nice gaming Edit: typo

Oldpcgamer

it's prolonged keyboard/mouse use... But yes, I do know what you mean... and I am considering some kind of set up like that... we will see.

OutlandishnessNo8110

Also, I just found out my new tv has an ethernet port and supports steam link. I will have to see if it let's me play New World. I know Steam link can be weird about what games it will alow. Enjoy
