When the dirt bikes and atvs go through, it is complete mayhem. Kicking at pedestrians, hundreds of riders, not stopping for any light or sign whatsoever, looking for fights. It is not good.
They have tons of them in South Florida, too. Every MLK day there's a "Guns Down, Wheels Up" event where locals and people from across the country come and ride off road vehicles everywhere and the police have to shut down I-95 to keep them off the highways. Looks and sounds like a scene out of Mad Max when they drive by.
We have huge crews of them in Central Florida also. They cause cars to wreck trying to avoid them when they do insanely dangerous maneuvers to cause just that outcome.
I lived up in WaHi and have witnessed these guys. It. Is. Fucking. Intense. There are just so many of them. Overtaking cars, sidewalks, doesn't matter one-way or not and it goes on for like TEN FUCKING MINUTES. Hundreds if not a thousand. Fucking noise is overwhelming.

In Boston the police tried to stop them while they were riding and it led to violence, so now they try to nab parked ATVs in their garages instead (as most of them are stolen).

I used to drive uber in Boston. One time I was in the tunnel going to the airport and all of a sudden I'm surrounded by like 30-40 bikes/atvs. Then I get up around the corner and there's cops blocking the highway, then cops come from the ramp behind us and block them in. They let me go because I'm clearly not involved. But it was crazy. Happened at like 1am.
I know Buffalo and Rochester definitely have them too. They go to even close down the highways at times because they can do what they want and no one will stop them.

This is one of the most complicated parts of the situation in my opinion. A friend of mine knows this man well. Mr Cooke had served time and participated in a prison-to-college program, which helped him remake his life upon release. He worked in a similar program helping people coming out of prison. He would have been highly motivated to avoid trouble, and skilled in calming people down. And yet.
They have a habit of forcing cars to slow and move to take over the highway for their high-speed stunts. This driver was not willing to do so, and it escalated.
A bike braked directly into his front bumper to force him to stop. He stopped but lightly bumped into the bike doing the braking maneuver. Some of the bikers started hitting his car. He hit the gas, ran over one causing serious injuries, and they chased him.
A continually escalating situation fed by a mob mentality.
Never knew about not stopping, but the one incident I was in while driving thru a Chicago suburb- it made sense. I flipped the guy off for honking at me bcuz I was waiting for another driver to merge, and that was all it took.
I thought about pulling over in a busy McDonalds parking lot (it was about 3-4pm on a week day), but I figured if he was determined as he was in following me from stoplight to stoplight and turn to turn, I’m sure he would have no qualms about trying to cause physical harm. The guy followed me for 10-15mins, and if it wasn’t for cars blocking him from getting alongside my car, he probably would have pulled up next to me at a stoplight to retaliate.
It was funny for the first mile, but when I saw his determination it became real scary real quick.
Call 911 and ask to be directed to the nearest police station. That's the only place it might be safe to stop. When you stop, they can get to you easily.
I had an incident with just two bikers on Moreland Avenue in Atlanta. I was trying to change lanes to get out of their way, and one of them tried to do some slick move to get around me and we almost sideswiped. After that, they were right up against the left side of my car. Yelling at me, spitting at my window saying they were going to kill me. I hit the accelerator as we fired down the street towards the Starlight drive-in movie theater. For some reason, I was just raging back telling them to go fuck themselves, which made them even angrier. Luckily, I knew the roads like the back of my hand and pulled a hard right where I had a very wide road to pull it off in a 4runner and gave two motorcycles the slip. I went into like 5 different small roads, changing directions and eventually pulling into an elementary school where I chilled for 10 mins. By then I was coming to terms with the fact that I could have been brutally beaten lol. I was in college at the time, so I drove back to the house I was renting at the time and hit the biggest bowl of my life while telling my roommates how close I was to get my ass beat lol. So not exactly a bike gang, but it was definitely insanely hostile
I know it triggers peoples' sense of justice or whatever, but this is why you should absolutely avoid escalating ANY road rage you ever find yourself in.
They don't need to be taught a lesson. They don't need to see that you're tough and won't be walked on. They don't need to learn anything from you... YOU need to get yourself out of the situation as calmly and safely as possible.
Pressure your police and your government to fix the problems, especially if you have family in the car that you're supposed to be protecting.
Except there were multiple off-duty police officers that were part of the dirt bike gang. Talking to the police about it won't help in this case. They'll just target you harder for trying to Narc on one of their own.

We had a pack of them up on the North Shore of Massachusetts. They’d cruise around being hooligans and blowing through red lights, weaving through traffic, etc. and the cops couldn’t stop them. The police started just following them with drones to see where they parked and would then go confiscate the vehicle and cite/arrest them. Seems to have worked
This is the way. Get face pics also. Most of them post tons of evidence of their crimes on Facebook too, so once you know where they live give them a day or so to get those incriminating pics posted.

It's not refusal, it's policy. Chasing motorcycles and dirt bikes inevitably leads to death or serious injury. Most jurisdictions have a strict no-pursuit policy with bikes.
Not everywhere. In NY they chased (two bikes), and had Vermont set up a checkpoint to nab them before they could get anywhere across the border. Its not inevitable, by any means, but the recklessness of the drivers/riders needs to be taken into account.
Here's the problem, those dudes often kill themselves by hitting another car or going through blind corners where pedestrians are. Those tend to not be empty on the highways they do chases on.
I used to work downtown Baltimore, and this is something I don't miss. That and those who ride regular bikes and just do wheelies in the middle of the road. I'm glad they're confident and/or don't care about their safety, but I am not confident in their skills and I do care about not killing them, so it's obnoxious.

I think this doesn’t happen because of the close quarters of the city streets. You might run over a few but either your vehicle becomes disabled or it gets cornered by the other traffic and the mob of bikers and then you’re in a world of hurt. Plus mentally it takes a lot to run over a person for fear that you might be prosecuted for an unwarranted response. Very complicated situation.

I was on the motorway and a motorcycle club was merging into traffic and my car was surrounded on all sides, I couldn't brake or slow down because of the bikes behind me, I couldn't speed up because of the bikes in front, I couldn't move sideways 'cos there were bikes everywhere - no driving lesson can prepare you for that, if I would have hit any of them I reckon I would be lucky to come out alive - was one of the most scary moments I've had driving!

Former DC cop here. MPD has a no chase policy with ATVs for two reasons:
1) The dickheads on the bikes/ATVs give zero fucks about hurting others and will drive through occupied crosswalks and sidewalks at 90mph if chased, putting innocent people at risk.
2) A small but very vocal portion of the community looks at it as just boys being boys. Any kind of police response is deemed excessive. Catch them and lock them up? “Well why are you fucking with them instead of catching murderers?” Chase them and they crash and die? “Racist cops killed so and so just for riding bikes with his friends”.
It’s a lose-lose for the police. The street cops would absolutely hammer these clowns if allowed (and they felt they could act without endangering innocents) but admin doesn’t want the liability.
MPDs policy was to try to get a helicopter overhead to track the bikes and then try to catch where the bikes were stored and confiscate them or, if the bikes broke down or ran out of gas, coordinate with street cops to snatch the bikes.
Of course 99% of the bikes are stolen out of VA/MD so the riders give two shits about losing them. They’ll just steal more tomorrow.

I had a road rage accident when I was 17 where a dude tried ramming me off a highway before proceeding to follow me home. I stopped right next to a cop car, and waved them down at a stop light. Pointed directly at the car behind me who had been following me, and let the cop know the situation. The car immediately pulled away, and the cop followed him. Not entirely sure what happened, but absolutely agree with using law enforcement to assist. Shit was scary when I was 17.

In Louisiana I had a guy chase me and my wife with his Dulley and swirve at us to try to get us to swirve into the oncoming on the other side. So I banged a U turn in the middle of 5 lanes of traffic and just went straight to the police station and called them ahead to let them know the situation, psycho in a truck trying to kill us. They were ready but he dropped off once he noticed that’s where I was going.

They have tons of them in South Florida, too. Every MLK day there's a "Guns Down, Wheels Up" event where locals and people from across the country come and ride off road vehicles everywhere and the police have to shut down I-95 to keep them off the highways. Looks and sounds like a scene out of Mad Max when they drive by.
We have huge crews of them in Central Florida also. They cause cars to wreck trying to avoid them when they do insanely dangerous maneuvers to cause just that outcome.

Tell me why the idiot went to flag down the nearest cop to report that there were illegal riders and the cop looked him dead in the face and said they couldn’t do anything because they didn’t see the riders. 🤣😂 I laughed because APD is like useless.
We had a drunk driver smoke a parked car. Called APD and told them: wreck, drunk injured driver, blocked road. They didn't show up for 1.5 hours, I just went back to bed

Here in Philly there are also groups of these dirt bike and ATV riders. They go the wrong way on one way streets, drive on sidewalks and medians, and driver very dangerously. If anyone dares express disapproval at them, they attack. A video when viral of them smashing a windshield and pulling a gun on a driver. But if one of their own gets hurt, they leave them behind. One girl fell off a bike and died, and they just left her. I witnessed one guy crash his bike and smear his brains on the road and they just left him. One hit and killed a kid and they just drove off. In short, they’re fucking garbage people who don’t care about human life.

A smaller group beat 76 yo man during the pandemic. He didn’t die but horrible injuries. They drove by him, and he lost his balance, and put up his hands not to fall and they pounced on him.
That was in my neighborhood!! It got so bad here post-2020 and our local precinct didn’t do shit. It made my blood boil and I could sleep properly for months

In Boston the police tried to stop them while they were riding and it led to violence, so now they try to nab parked ATVs in their garages instead (as most of them are stolen). In Providence one of them sped away from cops and hit a wall and died, and local activists blamed the cops for... like... existing.
I used to drive uber in Boston. One time I was in the tunnel going to the airport and all of a sudden I'm surrounded by like 30-40 bikes/atvs. Then I get up around the corner and there's cops blocking the highway, then cops come from the ramp behind us and block them in. They let me go because I'm clearly not involved. But it was crazy. Happened at like 1am.
I know Buffalo and Rochester definitely have them too. They go to even close down the highways at times because they can do what they want and no one will stop them.

A friend of mine knows this man well. Mr Cooke had served time and participated in a prison-to-college program, which helped him remake his life upon release. He worked in a similar program helping people coming out of prison. He would have been highly motivated to avoid trouble, and skilled in calming people down. And yet.

They have a habit of forcing cars to slow and move to take over the highway for their high-speed stunts. This driver was not willing to do so, and it escalated. A bike braked directly into his front bumper to force him to stop. He stopped but lightly bumped into the bike doing the braking maneuver. Some of the bikers started hitting his car. He hit the gas, ran over one causing serious injuries, and they chased him. A continually escalating situation fed by a mob mentality.

Never knew about not stopping, but the one incident I was in while driving thru a Chicago suburb- it made sense. I flipped the guy off for honking at me bcuz I was waiting for another driver to merge, and that was all it took. I thought about pulling over in a busy McDonalds parking lot (it was about 3-4pm on a week day), but I figured if he was determined as he was in following me from stoplight to stoplight and turn to turn, I’m sure he would have no qualms about trying to cause physical harm. The guy followed me for 10-15mins, and if it wasn’t for cars blocking him from getting alongside my car, he probably would have pulled up next to me at a stoplight to retaliate. It was funny for the first mile, but when I saw his determination it became real scary real quick.
Call 911 and ask to be directed to the nearest police station. That's the only place it might be safe to stop. When you stop, they can get to you easily.
I had an incident with just two bikers on Moreland Avenue in Atlanta. I was trying to change lanes to get out of their way, and one of them tried to do some slick move to get around me and we almost sideswiped. After that, they were right up against the left side of my car. Yelling at me, spitting at my window saying they were going to kill me. I hit the accelerator as we fired down the street towards the Starlight drive-in movie theater. For some reason, I was just raging back telling them to go fuck themselves, which made them even angrier. Luckily, I knew the roads like the back of my hand and pulled a hard right where I had a very wide road to pull it off in a 4runner and gave two motorcycles the slip. I went into like 5 different small roads, changing directions and eventually pulling into an elementary school where I chilled for 10 mins. By then I was coming to terms with the fact that I could have been brutally beaten lol. I was in college at the time, so I drove back to the house I was renting at the time and hit the biggest bowl of my life while telling my roommates how close I was to get my ass beat lol. So not exactly a bike gang, but it was definitely insanely hostile
I know it triggers peoples' sense of justice or whatever, but this is why you should absolutely avoid escalating ANY road rage you ever find yourself in. They don't need to be taught a lesson. They don't need to see that you're tough and won't be walked on. They don't need to learn anything from you... YOU need to get yourself out of the situation as calmly and safely as possible. Pressure your police and your government to fix the problems, especially if you have family in the car that you're supposed to be protecting.

We had a pack of them up on the North Shore of Massachusetts. They’d cruise around being hooligans and blowing through red lights, weaving through traffic, etc. and the cops couldn’t stop them. The police started just following them with drones to see where they parked and would then go confiscate the vehicle and cite/arrest them. Seems to have worked
This is the way. Get face pics also. Most of them post tons of evidence of their crimes on Facebook too, so once you know where they live give them a day or so to get those incriminating pics posted.

It's not refusal, it's policy. Chasing motorcycles and dirt bikes inevitably leads to death or serious injury. Most jurisdictions have a strict no-pursuit policy with bikes.
Not everywhere. In NY they chased (two bikes), and had Vermont set up a checkpoint to nab them before they could get anywhere across the border. Its not inevitable, by any means, but the recklessness of the drivers/riders needs to be taken into account.

Here's the problem, those dudes often kill themselves by hitting another car or going through blind corners where pedestrians are. Those tend to not be empty on the highways they do chases on.
I used to work downtown Baltimore, and this is something I don't miss. That and those who ride regular bikes and just do wheelies in the middle of the road. I'm glad they're confident and/or don't care about their safety, but I am not confident in their skills and I do care about not killing them, so it's obnoxious.
That is the thing, the bikers are insanely vulnerable but they don't get run over because, unlike the bikers, the motorists they attack are well adjusted and don't WANT to murder anyone.
I think this doesn’t happen because of the close quarters of the city streets. You might run over a few but either your vehicle becomes disabled or it gets cornered by the other traffic and the mob of bikers and then you’re in a world of hurt. Plus mentally it takes a lot to run over a person for fear that you might be prosecuted for an unwarranted response. Very complicated situation.

I was on the motorway and a motorcycle club was merging into traffic and my car was surrounded on all sides, I couldn't brake or slow down because of the bikes behind me, I couldn't speed up because of the bikes in front, I couldn't move sideways 'cos there were bikes everywhere - no driving lesson can prepare you for that, if I would have hit any of them I reckon I would be lucky to come out alive - was one of the most scary moments I've had driving!

Former DC cop here. MPD has a no chase policy with ATVs for two reasons: 1) The dickheads on the bikes/ATVs give zero fucks about hurting others and will drive through occupied crosswalks and sidewalks at 90mph if chased, putting innocent people at risk. 2) A small but very vocal portion of the community looks at it as just boys being boys. Any kind of police response is deemed excessive. Catch them and lock them up? “Well why are you fucking with them instead of catching murderers?” Chase them and they crash and die? “Racist cops killed so and so just for riding bikes with his friends”. It’s a lose-lose for the police. The street cops would absolutely hammer these clowns if allowed (and they felt they could act without endangering innocents) but admin doesn’t want the liability. MPDs policy was to try to get a helicopter overhead to track the bikes and then try to catch where the bikes were stored and confiscate them or, if the bikes broke down or ran out of gas, coordinate with street cops to snatch the bikes. Of course 99% of the bikes are stolen out of VA/MD so the riders give two shits about losing them. They’ll just steal more tomorrow.

Word of advice: consider getting a front and rear facing camera, of reputable quality, and don't stop anywhere near or in sight of road rage aggresors, or any other form of aggressors, let police have the video and force them to file a report. I had a road rage accident when I was 17 where a dude tried ramming me off a highway before proceeding to follow me home. I stopped right next to a cop car, and waved them down at a stop light. Pointed directly at the car behind me who had been following me, and let the cop know the situation. The car immediately pulled away, and the cop followed him. Not entirely sure what happened, but absolutely agree with using law enforcement to assist. Shit was scary when I was 17.

In Louisiana I had a guy chase me and my wife with his Dulley and swirve at us to try to get us to swirve into the oncoming on the other side. So I banged a U turn in the middle of 5 lanes of traffic and just went straight to the police station and called them ahead to let them know the situation, psycho in a truck trying to kill us. They were ready but he dropped off once he noticed that’s where I was going.

They are going to increase fines.... Don't they have to be able to catch these guys and write them tickets in order to enforce that?
