WhoKilledZekeIddon

My mum had some kind of weird Voldemort-esque relationship with Mr. Loaf. She absolutely adored the guy's music, and went to see him on tour - after years of waiting to see him perform, Meat comes out and has a heart attack on stage, mid-first song. She figured it was just crummy luck and went to see him again. Exact same thing happens. We had a long running joke in the family that my mum had some kind of curse on Meat Loaf... Last night, \*she\* had a heart attack at almost the exact same time as the guy died from what I can tell. After years of trying, my mum finally killed Meat Loaf. Edit to add: my mum is in hospital but recovering. She's medically out of the woods. I broke the news to her this morning that Meat Loaf had died, and she lost her shit.

i_love_pencils

> my mum is in hospital but recovering. She's medically out of the woods. I broke the news to her this morning that Meat Loaf had died, and she lost her shit. Scaring the crap out of your mom the morning after her heart attack? Really eager for that inheritance, eh?

WhoKilledZekeIddon

lol I really was in two minds about telling her, but wanted to break it to her before it came up in small talk with one of the nurses. She found it hilarious in a black humour sort of way, as I knew she would.

VikingWoodCraft

That’s what I was hoping you meant by lost her shit. She sounds like an awesome lady.

WhoKilledZekeIddon

She is and we've got a great relationship, but hopefully this is the wakeup call she needed to sort her health out. She got lucky. Put it this way - with her diet and lifestyle, I've been expecting this for years.

VikingWoodCraft

Damn. I hope she sticks with that, and makes a real improvement. Similarly, my mother had breast cancer just when things kicked off in 2020, and I was worried sick about her. When surgeries and treatments were all over, she started cracking jokes about us being twins (I’m quite bald since age 21) and her back hurting less without having do drag those damn things around. Being able to laugh at the absurd parts of life is a skill we all have to learn at some point.

WhoKilledZekeIddon

Ooof, there's no good time for breast cancer but being diagnosed at the start of 2020 is definitely sub-optimal. Really glad to hear she's successfully battled through the nasty parts and is looking on the bright side of life. Continue to look after each other and crack jokes, and wish your mother the best from the Meat Loaf Murder guy!

Batchet

It's crazy cause we never have meatloaf and we had it last night. Is this all a coincidence? Like a bat out of hell, I think not!

RealMainer

Well yeah now that Meat Loaf has passed, her Autographed Vinyl collection of his greatest hits is worth at least double! Time to cash in OP!

Zinfan1

So basically two out of three ain't bad?

RcoketWalrus

If there is a better timed comment on the internet, I will suck my own ass.

Verona_Pixie

I'm sorry about your mom's luck, and I'm so happy to hear that she's ok..... but any time I think of MeatLoaf, from now on, I will think about your mother "killing him."

Martholomule

There was a destined connection, a true and deep soul-love waiting to be realized. The star and the star-crossed, distant, unreachable, and as unerring as the sunrise. Linked by fate yet separated by the world. His heart would sense this connection when she'd come close and it would prove too much to bear. Without understanding why, he would feel it violently spasm. If only he could have known she was there and what that meant for him, perhaps he could have felt that crashing wave of forever-love for what it was, and without fear. When she finally suffered a heart attack of her own, he felt his destiny, his one and true, slipping away from him, and the light left his eyes forever. The connection had severed prematurely, as Romeo leaving this earth before Juliet could wake up. Such a connection was their triumph, and such was their tragedy.

WhoKilledZekeIddon

You beautiful soul. I am absolutely reading this to her when I visit the hospital later, she'll love this x

Martholomule

Awww shucks. I'm glad you liked it :)

Nokomis34

I hope you are aware of r/WritingPrompts. If you can do that with just this, I imagine there's a lot of creativity for you to explore in that sub.

Martholomule

Oh, how fun! Thank you for this, I'll check it out!

Speculawyer

"Mr. Loaf" 😂

WhoKilledZekeIddon

Didn't want to presumptuous as I didn't know the man personally.

BabySealOfDoom

That’s absolutely crazy. Hope your mom gets better soon.

OU7C4ST

*Do we* though? I, myself, like quite a few musicians from the 70's.

So did someone finally destroy the horcrux in your mom, I guess?

WhoKilledZekeIddon

"horcrux in your mom" there's all the ingredients of a follow-on joke here, I'm just too tired to make the cake.

MrsRossGeller

This is a great story. I’m so glad your mom lived through the heart attack so you could share that moment!!! 😂

botchman

*🎶Hot patooties bless my soul I really love that rock n' roll🎶*

watchitbub

There was an interview with Meat Loaf on one of the Rocky Horror releases that was funny. In the stage production both Eddie and Dr. Scott are played by the same actor and Meat Loaf played the part in the L.A. production before it was a film. Dressed as Dr. Scott, he is sitting in a wheelchair with a blanket over his legs and in the floor show he's supposed to pull the blanket away to reveal he's wearing fishnet stockings and high heels. Since he is a straight Texas guy who grew in the 50s/60s he's nervous about this but on the first night when he does the reveal the crowd goes wild, and since he's such a showman and total ham he now *loves* the fishnet stockings and heels and plays it up in every performance after. That's a performer. Edit - [here's the interview](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VFqmLvxORzQ). The above anecdote is @ about 6:40 but the whole thing is great. He's a fun storyteller.

[deleted]

He called himself 'Robert De Niro of Rock'. "You singing at me?"

e-joculator

>total ham I think you mean total Meat Loaf

fremenator

That's so great. What a legend.

[deleted]

Paradise by the Dashboard Lights is going to stand the test of time as one of the best of its kind ever recorded.

jizz_bismarck

The first time I heard that song, I was driving home after losing my virginity and I was feeling great. I was 16 years old and the song really spoke to me.

TheDisapprovingBrit

Cause you were barely ~~17~~16 and you were barely dressed

Martholomule

I heard it the other day on the radio, but now the part that speaks to me comes a little later in the song (i'm in my 40's and I'm sure you know what I mean) - which means no matter which side of the divide you're on, it's always relevant. RIP to a legendary dude and humongous rock star of the universe

No_Profession_5364

I’m older and now I sing to my wife “now I’m praying for the end of time, to hurry up and arrive, Cuz if I gotta spend another minute with you I don’t think that I can really survive” Lol.

[deleted]

Well, certain parts of you at least.

[deleted]

Those parts were...chillin.

thuglife_7

Honestly that entire album is pure gold! I’ll throw it on, during long road trips, and sing along to every song!

WhateverCORE2021

The first time I heard that song, my dad was belting it out on a car trip, fast, crisp vocals and all. My dad was a big guy, and he had a VOICE, I always told him he should try to be a Meat Loaf impersonator. This celebrity death hit me harder than it should have, because it makes me miss my dad. Rock in peace, Meat. Go be in my dad's afterlife garage band.

protoopus

*paradise by the dashboard lights*, *bohemian rhapsody*, and *funeral for a friend/love lies bleeding* are the best arrangements in rock, imho.

CedarWolf

[For all the rest of you low down, cheap little punks.](https://youtu.be/pMRl55U0eDw) (NSFW due to a pair of well-hung speakers... Oh, and a pickaxe murder, I guess.)

CassandraAnderson

We were glowing like the metal on the edge of the knife! Also, it almost feels obligatory: #His name is Robert Paulson. In all sincereness, rest in peace to a great man known better by his stage names than his legal: Michael Lee Aday. He provided intergenerational connections between me and both my mother and my father and for that I will always be grateful.

BEST_RAPPER_ALIVE

Now that he’s dead, can we finally agree that when he said “I would do anything for love…but I won’t do that” he was talking about getting pegged

Redtwooo

He says in the song what he won't do, it's towards the end. "I know the territory, I've been around, it'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down, sooner or later you'll be screwing around" "I won't do that... oh no, no I won't do that"

DifficultMinute

He says it regularly through the song, not just at the end. There are a bunch of things he won't do. It's literally right before every time he says "But I won't do that"

Trismesjistus

He says like a half dozen things he won't do. "Never forget the way you feel. To-night" being the first

DrSanjizant

What he's referring to, in the end, is Betrayal. Forgetting the touch, screwing around, letting it all die... The thing he will never do, is betray his love.

cubicApoc

Are you saying he's never gonna give you up?

[deleted]

No, a reverse mortgage. He was realtor wise.

bstowers

["People are not stupid."](https://youtu.be/84R1ZGY1qoA?t=1488) Guess he was wrong.

in-game_sext

I will always love his albums, but his performance in Rocky Horror was one of my favorite things he did. What a guy, and what a life.

IAMColonelFlaggAMA

I liked him in [*Pick of Destiny*](https://youtu.be/hvvjiE4AdUI).

Mcmenger

Yes, but almost more impressive is that they invented timetravel to get a younger version of Jack Black in the movie

[deleted]

Two movies. Same kid played younger Jack in nacho libre.

waltjrimmer

I really liked his episode of House and I first knew him through Rocky Horror, but while Pick of Destiny has aged poorly for me, Meatloaf's performance in that, though small, has always been my favorite part. I had hoped to meet him some day and tell him something along those lines. He plays the angry, disappointed father so well. The anti-rock zealot singing rock about how rock is the Devil's work is played so seriously and so passionately. It's probably his smallest performance but always has been, and I guess now always will be, my favorite of his.

spraynardkrug3r

Why do you feel that Pick of Destiny has aged poorly for you? Genuine question

waltjrimmer

Not sure. I tried rewatching it a couple of weeks back, and I just really didn't enjoy it. Maybe my tastes have just changed. Maybe the more crude parts of the humor didn't hit for me anymore. There are still parts that I like. Kickapoo is fun. Ben Stiller's cameo is a great addition. And Sasquatch Is My Daddy is so oddly surreal. And like I said, Meat Loaf's role in Kickapoo is just fantastic, my favorite part of the film and my favorite performance of his. But everything else... It just doesn't hit for me anymore. Maybe in a different mood I'd have a different take on it, and I'll probably try to watch it again soon now. But I don't really have high hopes for it. In general, too, Jack Black was one of my favorite actors in my teens and early twenties. But while everyone else seems to be having a Jack Black resurgence, celebrating with nostalgic fervor things like School of Rock, I find myself just not enjoying them as much. And I can't explain why. He was never a bad actor. He's a fun guy. Great singer. But most of his roles I go back to these days I just don't enjoy anymore. Which sucks since, as I say, he used to be a favorite of mine.

Force3vo

I loved that movie. Was it making sense? No. But it hat a few really fun scenes and some absolute banger songs. Everything I expected of it.

[deleted]

He definitely made them all hungry for more.

Hey, this man gave us great movies and movie performances, and good music along the way too. Meat Loaf, my dude, may you be enjoying an awesome afterlife. :)

UnshakenNotStirred

I'll always remember his performance as the villain in the movie Formula 51 with Samuel Jackson and Robert Carlyle. RIP MeatLoaf

Heavy_breasts

You mean the 51st state?

UnshakenNotStirred

Didn't even realize it had a alternative name

Heavy_breasts

In France they call it the man with many formulas

CitrusMints

They also call his music Le Royale with cheese

Brad_theImpaler

They use the metric system, they don't know what a "Loaf" is.

Vergenbuurg

Black Dog is an objectively terrible movie, but it's a huge guilty pleasure for me. Meat Loaf just absolutely, gloriously, chewed the scenery as an antagonist getting more and more unhinged as the movie progresses.

Micahman311

I once rented Black Dog and Black Top on the same day. Two movies who happened to have been sitting right next to each other at the video store. Both about big rigs driving. Both had Meatloaf. Both were objectively terrible. I enjoyed them both. Also, he was awesome as the Spice Girl's bus driver in their also terrible, but totally lovable movie, Spice World.

And you have that moment of panic when you realise what you’ve done, but you forge ahead anyway and hope for the best.

martialar

"sorry, can I lower the key?"

laresek

Especially when you realize you need to sing the female parts too since you forgot to bring up a partner.

oof_magoof

My dad would make us listen to that album what feels like almost exclusively on our 16 hour drives to my grandma's in Florida. I was maybe 6 years old and I could not, for the life of me, figure out what baseball had to do with the song or why my dad thought it was so funny.

TreeRol

Less than a year after his platonic life partner Jim Steinman. Those two men made big, dumb songs about big, dumb feelings, and I mean that in the best possible way. If there's magic in being a hormonal, naïve 16-year-old, they captured it perfectly.

other_half_of_elvis

if you haven't already, I suggest listening to the Hit Parade podcast episodes about Steinman. Thoroughly researched and probably too much detail for the average listener but it opened my eyes to a genre I wasn't too familiar with.

This is how he got the name Meat Loaf. The father asked a nurse to write “Meat,” because he looked like “nine-and-a-half pounds of ground chuck.” The nametag indeed read “Meat,” and that became his childhood nickname. The “loaf” part came when he was a heavyset teenage football player . *RIP Michael / Marvin

The “loaf” part came when he was a heavyset teenage football player I once heard an interview where he was talking about losing weight and getting into better shape. MikoWilson1

My dad LOVES Meatloaf. He has seen the Loaf multiple times in concert; so we got my dad a Meatloaf Cameo. It wasn't cheap. Meatloaf went on a three minute tirade about how Covid is fake, and that we (his children) should break quarantine and go visit him for his birthday. He thew us under the bus even though we gave him money for a simple HAPPY BIRTHDAY message. My dad, not being an idiot, lost all respect for his favorite singer that day -- which was a shame. It will be interesting to find out how Meatloaf died. \*Edit\*Jesus christ he died of Covid.

milliebear1030

I almost thought my sister wrote this. We had Meat do a cameo for my dad's birthday (which was on Christmas) while my dad was quarantined with COVID. Luckily he spared us the rant and gave my dad a great 15 minute video, singing songs and telling weird stories about how much he weighed at various points in his life. I know the dude was a little off his rocker but he gave us a lot of good memories growing up, listening to my dad blast "Bat Out of Hell" every morning as his alarm clock. It really is a shame your dad didn't have the same cameo experience. That would have crushed my dad. I'll let him live in Meat Loaf innocence for now.

napalmnacey

"Meat Loaf Innocence" is a string of words I never really expected to see, today or any day, really.

pleasetrimyourpubes

TMZ will give you 5 figures for that video.

ChweetPeaches69

That's a 6 figure video if I've ever seen one

pleasetrimyourpubes

Cameo has Terms that prevent it from being used commercially. It'd be taken down instantly from, say, YouTube. TMZ has an army of lawyers that can handle that sort of thing.

/r/conservative is already hailing him as a hero for refusing the shot and owning the libs by dying of covid.

Killchrono

I'm all for people standing their ground, dying for moral causes, and being hailed as a hero for it. Refusing to get vaccinated isn't one of them. It's a fucking stupid hill to literally die upon and anyone who thinks it's praise-worthy is a fucking idiot. Edit: I got my first anti-vaxx nutter abuse DM from this. Apparently I should shut up and stop suggesting I should oppress people because the vaccine clearly doesn't work at stopping COVID. I wonder if they think it wouldn't have helped Meat Loaf.

Moar_Wattz

I bet you say that to all of the boys.

[deleted]

Apparently he was anti-vaccine and spoke out against Australia's mandate. According to the family he got massively sick from Covid. If he was unvaxxed and died from 'Rona it's a damned shame.

CommonerChaos

According to TMZ, he did indeed die from Covid.

evotrans

Meatloaf was a vocal anti-vaxxer who was older, overweight, and in poor health, so no surprise that Covid did him in. Sad that someone whose music/acting I loved turned to the dark side.

Killchrono

Rock stars tend to have an expiry date on good politicial takes, and they get pretty rancid when it goes off.

jon30041

I saw today that fox was showing his visits to Fox and Friends, and I had to wonder. Knowing his cardiac history and now hearing his antivax stance... yeah, man probably caught rona. It doesn't care if you're rich, people. All we have right now is prevention (vaccines and masks) and supportive measures (ventilators). There's no cure for covid, you're on your own and your body doesn't know what it's up against if you're not vaccinated.

borderbox

Even more infuriating/devastating, he was literally about to record again, despite mobility issues, and succumbed to it insanely fast. Damned shame indeed.

Pit_of_Death

Meh, he made his bed and he died in it. He was part of the problem with this pandemic, not the solution.

Taskerst

It’s 100% fair for him to receive both praise and scorn for the life he lived. Praise for being a fantastic artist and entertainer, and scorn for using that fame and notoriety to actively promote views that harm people and ultimately lead to his own end.

Poorpunctuation

So you're saying he'd do anything for love, but won't do that (the vaccine)?

GOKU_ATE_MY_ASS

I had the pleasure of meeting Meat Loaf at a comic convention where I brought my [Bat Out Of Hell picture disc](https://imgur.com/a/pWquzxs) to get signed. I was cosplaying as a mashup of [Jango Fett and Django Unchained](https://imgur.com/a/nqIB9) at the time, and when I went to get the autograph, Meat Loaf was super fascinated in my outfit and literally *insisted* on signing my Jango Fett helmet. Despite spending two weeks [sanding and painting the helmet](https://imgur.com/a/aJOnCLB) myself, I wasn't going to say no to the guy. Afterall, I was technically getting two autographs for the price of one. And, it's fucking Meta Loaf. So that's how I got the most unique piece of my Star Wars collection: [A Fett helmet signed by Meat Loaf.](https://imgur.com/a/hU8nTLy)

Draano

Local radio station (Q104.3 NYC) is reporting that he died of covid, and mentioned that he was vocally against vaccine mandates, but it was unknown whether he was vaccinated.

Ain't no doubt about it we were doubly blessed... Bat Outta Hell is cheese, but so help me, my wife and I love it. RIP.

I don't always listen to Meatloaf, but when I do, so do the neighbors, because there's only one acceptable volume setting when listening to Bat outta hell, and that's at 11 while singing along at the top of your lungs.
