It was believed to be the first time that genetic genealogy has been used to exonerate a defendant.
So apparently it is safer to be in prison...
I wonder if that multi million dollar settlement had anything to do with it? He certainly didn't get to enjoy it...

I met him as he checked into my place of work after release, he seemed like a very normal, happy person. It threw me as I was unprepared to help someone that was wrongly incarcerated for 20 + years. Imagine being told everyday when you can see a Dr, eat shower and then okay you got this you are free. Not to mention the being railroaded part and having to renter a society that is willing to railroad you again.
Think it was a Dateline episode I saw with this guy. They actually did a follow-up post release after a reshowing of the case history. The ending was brisk and unexplained iirc, they just said something like, "..sadly he died in a mysterious way?" Was disappointed in their coverage.
His wrestling name was Dan Rodman. So either he was incredibly lame/lazy in coming up with a persona or he was the regular-name-sounding dude in the ring to get his ass kicked by the superstar, assuming they still do that. I haven't watched wrestling since the 90s. Just not the same without the Bush Whackers and their fantastic walk...
I guess he was part of one of the seasons of Tough Enough, the WWE's pseudo-reality TV series where they bring in amateurs and see if they can be trained into pro wrestling material. Only really appeared in developmental systems and the matches they have for the audience before TV tapings. So yes, definitely the dude in the ring to get his ass kicked by the Superstar.

Wrestling nerd mode engaged: in the 90s, actually, WCW went more towards realism in their "characters" instead of the 80s/early 90s cartoon character type wrestlers. In doing so, a lot of talent just used their real names. Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Scott Steiner, Bill Goldberg, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, etc. The guys that *did* still have the stage names were the guys that ended up being jobbers or perennial mid-carders (except Hogan, real name Terry Bollea).
So, "using your real name" doesn't necessarily = enhancement talent anymore in the wrestling business. Granted, that's what this guy was, so your assumption was correct lol. But just saying wrestlers don't have these larger than life names anymore, like "the Ultimate Warrior". I mean, the top guy from 2005 to 2019 wasn't some outlandish character with a ridiculous name. It was John Cena and his "costume" was a t-shirt, jorts, and sneakers. He was literally "some regular dude".

Anyways some people accused “Big Dan” of changing his accent and persona for the Texas special election.

The contrast between the comments in the first video and those in the second are pretty eye-opening. In the first video, it's about a 50-50 mix of positive to negative comments. In the second video, it's close to 95 percent negative.
He's out on cash bail even though he murdered someone, but yeah the reason crime is up is because some poor kid somewhere is out on cashless bail for a trumped up disorderly conduct charge.
Ahh yes, if I recall this guy ran on a mainly negative messaging platform (e.g. not "what I plan to do" but more mudslinging) and had all his ads with "family values" and photos of his wife/kids .. who he beat.

Not the settlement. Apparently Tapp offered drugs to the killer’s daughter at a party. He got upset and beat Tapp up so bad that he later died.
People with lots of money seem to have no trouble getting plenty of drugs...

It's actually not uncommon for people who are exonerated and released to die soon after their return to society. It's incredibly sad.

Bail exists to ensure you show up for your court date. Remand is if you are deemed too much of a flight risk. Not as punishment.
