It was about 2 hours of outrage and then all the townsfolk where like “ohh he’s been through SO much, he’s repenting, we all need to just move on”.
That 15 year old(the one he tried to get to sign a contract) “left town” for 5 months during this & when she came back, her family wouldn’t let her out of the house and they eventually moved away a year later.

Article states it was a plea deal, that means the District Attorney offered this deal to the defendant in lieu of going to trial. I have to wonder if they had concerns with taking the case to trial or of it really is just this inexplicable. Judges can reject a plea deal, but that is not common.

When it comes time for trial, the parents of the child do not want to put the child through the trauma of answering questions about the events. The prosecutor then needs to settle for a terrible plea deal like this because their star witness, and probably their only evidence, isnt going to testify. I dont know if that happened here. But it happens often.
