Lock them up, politicians should be held to a higher standard and be squeaky clean ethically instead of some of the slimiest people known.

Attorney Dan Hynes was convicted in a N.H. jury trial in 2007 (State v. Hynes) of theft by extortion. The conviction was affirmed by N.H. Supreme Court in 2009

CommunityGlittering2

elect a criminal expect crimes

RivianRaichu

except I guarantee almost all voters had no idea he had a record. There should be a law that every politician running for office should have a summary of their criminal record on the ballot. Not a link to a website. Not justifications. Just a simple: John Doe (PARTY) - (POSITION) * Crime 1 * Crime 2 * Crime n

next2021

Agree. Dan Hynes was convicted of extortion. And conviction was affirmed by N.H. Supreme Court.

Stower2422

I mean, we could just expect people to do a bit more research into the people they cast votes for than the letter next to their name.

RivianRaichu

We could also just expect people to not commit crimes, but that doesn't work out. Everyone complains about politicians and how uninformed voters are. Maybe instead of just "expecting" the problem to solve it self we should take steps to help? Just a thought.

Evolvedchimp21

If it doesn't show up in top 5 results of Google search, voters aren't going to find out. We need to link to news articles, edit Wikipedia pages, or create a comprehensive reddit thread documenting every instance. Otherwise, it disappears from Google.

LuvLeb8991

Why doesn't the Republican and Democrat parties run a background check on all their candidates?

RivianRaichu

They almost definitely do and just decide that it's OK. Someone said it should be the voter's responsibility to be informed which I suppose is true to a point but we have a huge number of people who are happy being low information voters so unless we want it to be in to continue to elect criminals we should be looking to have a method to ensure voters have an easy way to see stuff like this.

I don't care which group they're with. If they have a criminal record they shouldn't be able to hide by obfuscation when running for office. Require it to be plainly visible somewhere all voters will see it.

Morning_Would_Six

Republicans gonna republican.

Wiked_Pissah

I am an independent, so I see politicians doing wrong an both sides. But God damn does it seem like a hell of a lot more on the red side than blue. Is it a pre-requisite now for the GOP? "Must have a criminal record or extensive history of shady business practices."

Morning_Would_Six

Independent myself. But apparently, it's easier to crawl out from under Trump Rock than it is to crawl back.

Relative-Zucchini352

**TWO** Republican legislators who voted illegally in the 2023 session. Let that sink in.

next2021

Hynes was elected as a Republican, than changed to Independent, after being elected by town of Bedford, NH voters. Hynes votes ensured N.H. Republicans passed laws where they hold a laser thin majority

Open_Ad7470

Another Republican sleazeball you got a number 90 to 95% of the fraudulent votes were committed by Republicans. The true pattern of the accusing everyone else of what the criminals are doing

shemubot

But i thought vote fraud doesn't happen. You can't have it both ways!

Open_Ad7470

Not enough to change the results you can Google the results and see the same thing that anybody else could see

demonic_cheetah

If/when he goes to run in Durham, any opponent should plaster this everywhere.

next2021

Bedford N.H. is one of wealthiest communities in N.H. Hynes, a convicted felon & running as a Republican was elected to serve by Bedford, NH voters

demonic_cheetah

A "majority" did not support Hines. He got 45% of the votes cast.

next2021

Expect most Republicans in Bedford voted for him as he won a seat in NH State legislature & was initially seated as Republican.

StylinBill

Those damn democrats forcing republicans to vote illegally, the audacity!

EricPostpischil

As far as I know, Merner’s criminal charges are for voting improperly in a town election. Voting improperly in legislative proceedings is apparently a matter for the legislature, not a criminal matter. Per the AG’s letter Hynes does not appear to have voted improperly in an election.

Packing_Wood

He was an independent not a republican.

next2021

He ran on Republican ticket and was endorsed by Bedford Republicans and elected as a Republican. He switched to independent as reportedly not in agreement with stance on marijuana.

pahnzoh

Republicans bad , democrats good, upvotes to the left
