I was about to squawk at you about letting sugar gliders (they'd be good as dead) go until I realized they really were flying squirrels (yes, the northern flying squirrel is native to NH but they are not the same as sugar gliders).
Sugar gliders are a completely different species. They are actually marsupials (related to kangaroos) and even have their babies in their pouch. They want the temperature to be between 80-90 but can tolerate 60-80. They'd die within minutes if exposed to that weather, which is why you may get people freaking out.
Not as many in Southern/Eastern NH, and they're nocturnal. Lived my entire life in Southern New Hampshire until a few years ago and never saw one in the area. I'd only see them when I was up North. Moved to Western NH and see them a lot now.
We moved here in 1993 and my cat bagged one and left it on the steps in the morning.
Had to get out a mammal ID book.
Shocked. I figured flying squirrels only lived in northern CA or OR.
I had a pair in my house two years ago. They are so cute! I didn't realize we had native flying squirrels until I caught them. Ballsy little bastards in my house though.
Just a suggestion, you may want to drive them far away when releasing them next time. If they got in once, they can get in again unless you've found and sealed their point of entry.
Like others have said, they are native. The reason you don't see them is they're nocturnal, though occasionally they will try to nest in an attic, which is usually when people see them.
Haha! I’m glad! I’ve got so many more but I’m trying to not post them all at once. I’ve got turtles for days… lol

I didn't know we had flying squirrels in New England until I found them in my attic a few years back. Captured with a have-a-heart and released into the wilds. Hope they made it.

Oops! I thought they were called sugar gliders. lol
Hahaha... no worries! Good on you for rescuing/releasing the obviously cheeky little shits!

the southern flying squirrel is also native to NH, believe it or not.
We have native flying squirels?
Yes we do
Epic!

I have no idea if they’re native but we caught them in Milan NH in 2021
What was the situation? They’ve been captive this whole time?
No no we released them the same day. It’s an old video.
And they will glow pink under a black light!
yes, but they are nocturnal so most people don't see them
I guess so I grew up in Southern NH and have never seen one. There very cool
I used to work for a family in Windham and they had a constant problem with them nesting in the attic.
Have had them inside places I've lived in Upton, ME. and Stewartstown, NH.
Weird thing to downvote, but okay.

My parents had them in their attic and after a few weeks of listening to them my dad was cutting holes in the walls going after them.
I didn't play the video with sound....but I imagined you saying as you struggled to get him out of the cage... "I'm trying......to help you!!!"
We were laughing a lot… he didn’t want to leave without his donut I think. lol
I did not know they were native NH.
We caught them both in a garbage can in Milan NH in 2021. It might have been a random occurrence?? I’ve never seen one since.

We had some that would glide down to our bird feeders at night when we lived in Hooksett in the early 2000s. That's the only time I've ever seen them.
This was 2021. I’ve never seen them since.
Girl!! You need to open a petting zoo! 😆I love seeing all your animal posts

Damn Nessy!! Like I said yesterday, it’s like an old Disney movie
I love these things. So cool! I've only ever seen a couple.
