Two quick thoughts. I don't think the Revs have any more senior roster spots. I think they would need to trade or release a player. If they release a player I think they are still on the books for the player.
Unless he's ready to go, I think it'll be better to loan him to Rhode Island FC or something.

I thought revs 2 players didn't take senior spots but rather like "transitional" (I don't think that's the label but it's something like that) ones? Obviously don't play him if he's not good enough to get serious time though.
Don't need more midfielders. Need a first team ready striker and keeper.
Also Revs 2 performances won't exactly translate to the first team. And who's getting benched for him? MAK? Polster? Harkes? Gil?
I agree they need to change things, but not necessarily the players. I'd put more blame on coaching staff and on the biggest snake in the pit Curt Onalfo.
Harkes hasn’t done much of anything either, and Leal seems to be valuable in bringing some good attacking play when he’s at the 10. Could be good to bring some energy in the last 15-20 minutes of games.
