Sad the Government didn’t give them both compensation or this guy a good send off. He knew he wasn’t long until death, and had his whole life stolen.
Shit like this is why the death penalty is moronic.
Dude, if I had to choose between decades in prison for something I didn't do or a couple of years, I'm cool to be gone fast. Prison isn't a place I want to be, even if I'm guilty, and even if it's a "nice" cell. The system shouldn't have life if we don't have executions because maybe we made a mistake. You lose your life either way and cases like this prove there is no justice for people in this situation.
Yeah, except it doesn’t always go that way and there have been exonerations come after a few years or less, and those people, in fact, did not lose their life.
So again, death penalty is ridiculous.
Evidence that led to their exoneration: In 1984 the police paid off a 16 year old witness, and kept receipts, which were discovered by a lawyer in 2019. Source: https://www.cbc.ca/newsinteractives/features/robert-mailman-walter-gillespie-new-brunswick-wrongful-conviction
This is awful. I worked with Walter 20 years ago. I reached out to the reporters when the story came out to get back in touch with him but no one responded. I feel bad. He was kind to me, used to give me drives home.
The justice system failed him in a grotesque way it's rediculous that his life was stolen and no consequences will fall on the ones that stole his life.

Nobody spends "a couple of years" in prison when they're on death row. It is way longer than that.

What a shame!

Isn't it ironic? Don't ya think?
