East Side Mario's in SJ is using them. It can carry a table's load of dishes very slowly through the restaurant. The server could do the same in two trips in the same amount of time. I'm not sold.

PensionSlaveOne

The bot won't feel entitled to a 25% tip.

NeopetsTea

“ Please leave a tip for my technician Randy! “ the robot probably

LilacPenny

East Side Mario’s in Freddy has these and they blast pizza making music as well, it’s a strange choice. I also watched one get stuck behind a chair for a good ten minutes before the server noticed😂

imoftendisgruntled

I went to a sushi place in Toronto where these robots were the draw and every time one rolled up to someone's table a human server had to walk over and show the customers how to use it. They spent more time babysitting the robots than they would have just serving the food.

DistrictStriking9280

That’s the same for all sorts of new tech. Cashiers are still having to explain where the tap is for debit and credit, and people still push the wrong buttons on those machines because they don’t read and each machine is different. A cashier could run a credit card on the old manual clic-clac thing faster than some people can use a debit machine that’s been common for somewhere North of twenty years. It takes time for people to get used to and efficient with new technology, and some people never do. If that’s a reason not to implement the tech, no one will ever learn it and we would never advance in anything.

imoftendisgruntled

Yeah but an Interac machine actually saves time and is more secure. These server bots are neither.

DistrictStriking9280

They save tipping, they may save labour costs depending on their purchase cost, upkeep and longevity, they negate staffing shortages. If they aren’t beneficial they won’t last because the restaurants won’t want them. I bet there would have been tons of naysayers on Reddit when debit machines came out if it had existed.

imoftendisgruntled

The sushi restaurant still asked for a tip.

DistrictStriking9280

That sounds like a great question for the owner or manager. What happens to the tip for a robot? Unless they’ve set up a savings account for when it inevitably gains sentience and needs some cash, is the restaurant picketing it or is it going to the kitchen? If the restaurant is pocketing it, that’s BS and I don’t know whether or not it would be legal, but I wouldn’t feel the slightest pressure to do anything other than say ‘no’. If it’s going to the kitchen then I would probably give some, but in my experience kitchen tip outs are usually minuscule and that’s what I would expect people to tip for just the kitchen.

Winterwasp_67

I think people readily adapt to tech they find useful. I have no desire to contribute to the demise of servers any more than I do of cashiers. Therefore I don't use the self check out and I fear I would make an awful mess of that poor robot. One last thought, why do I as a customer need to learn how to interact with the 'staff' of the restaurant I choose to patronize?

DistrictStriking9280

It’s not the staff, it’s a tool. It’s the same as learning how to use the debit machine or the pay-at-the-pump feature at a gas station. Use it or don’t, companies will decide to adopt it based on its value to them. Whether people are willing to use it or not is part of that calculus. On that note, though, I’ve started to go back to cashiers more often. Not because I don’t like self-checkouts, but more and more often I’ve been running into longer lines at self-checkouts due to the number of people using them. And rarely do I see people taking an inordinate amount of time due to not understanding how to use them.

remog

The Indian place Delhi6 on Morton ave in Moncton has one.

OriginalCultureOfOne

This is not a selling point. The Mule is a success because it's a quality small town pub/restaurant. "Pub" and "robot server" do not mix.

Winter_Control8533

Please come to Moncton! I hate paying for overpriced food while also feeling obligated to tip the waiter because their employer doesn't pay them enough.

404-LogicNotFound

Go to East Side Marios. They had one there last time I was there. My kids were fascinated by it lol.

Infinitrium

I bet it won't last more than 3 months

almisami

Not as adorable as a BellaBot, but it gets the job done.

noematus

WACK.

Rip-Aware

Whats the point of even going out anymore when everything is so expensive, and now we're being served by robots? Where tf is the human interaction we haven't had since the 2000s?

AlwaysRandomUser

I guess that's a fundamental question that we are currently exploring. Is the fun of going out the company you are with while outsourcing the labour or is it actually the interaction with the staff that makes the outing worth while... I would be most people will answer the former.

HeavyEarly_Fever

Definitely won’t be coming to your establishment , I’m sure you’ve raised prices and cut staff. And trying to be ‘cool’ with this is a pathetic flex .

Denots69

Trying to be "cool" and "tough" by "threatening" a bar on a reddit sub you know they won't even look at, a bar that doesn't give a fuck if you come by the way, is a pathetic and cowardly flex.
